Very small parking lot that has one driveway entrance that dead ends (meaning the kind of parking lot where you'd have to back out of you can't turn yourself around to drive out head first). Fortunately, the parking lot was practically empty when I arrived late afternoon within an hour of their closing. The lady at the store was very helpful and understanding. She told me that since the body would be collected at El Camino Hospital, she recommended that I contact their Mountain View location on Castro St, due to proximity to the hospital. She gave me a helpful informational checklist. And she told me more about their process and pricing. This location has a small show room with full size caskets; the Mountain View location is smaller than this, and only has "sample" size display examples mounted on a wall.

Instead, after getting home and unwrapping everything with my family, I discovered that her ashes had been placed in a plain plastic container. Because everything was wrapped when it was handed to me, I had no reason to believe anything was wrong. This isn't something most people have experience with, and in that emotional moment I trusted that everything had been prepared correctly. What was equally disappointing was the complete lack of empathy during the pickup. I was simply handed my mother's remains with little acknowledgment of the significance of the moment. There was no effort to verify the contents with me or ensure that everything matched what had been arranged. I have spent the last 20 years caring for my mother, and I also work in healthcare. I understand that people in this profession deal with death and grief every day. However, for families, this is not routine--this is one of the hardest days of our lives. Compassion, attention to detail, and respect matter immensely. The only positive experience I had was with the woman who originally helped my mother make her arrangements about a year before she passed. She was kind, thoughtful, and compassionate. Unfortunately, the care we received afterward did not reflect that same level of professionalism. This was one of the most painful experiences of my life, and the mistakes and lack of compassion only added to our grief. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this business. After discovering the mistake, I immediately contacted the business and am currently waiting for a return call. I sincerely hope they take responsibility for what happened and make this right. Despite presenting itself as a nonprofit providing "an array of direct support services for older adults, adults with disabilities, and caregivers in Santa Clara County," my experience raised serious concerns about professionalism, communication, and accountability. In January 2026, I contacted Sourcewise again after they responded to a public review and asked me to reach out directly, which I did. I communicated with a director through email, but no resolution was reached. During an intake call that lasted over 30 minutes, I was asked questions such as "Where are you from?" and "What did you do in your country?" even after clearly stating that I have lived and worked legally in the United States for decades. I found these questions unnecessary and inappropriate. During the same process, I was offered a wage below the legally established minimum wage for the City of Santa Clara, where they are located. This was later acknowledged by the director as an error. What an error. I also experienced repeated and intrusive follow-up calls simply to notify me of emails, which I found unprofessional. Additionally, when discussing job location and transportation, my explanations about using public transportation or even Uber if necessary were not properly considered. Instead, the Lead Intake Coordinator focused on walking distance calculations, which reflected a lack of attention to what I was actually communicating. "It will take 2 hours to get to our office in Santa Clara", was the LIC answer. I reside in downtown San Jose. Due to these and other issues, I decided not to pursue services with them. Following their own suggestion, I submitted a formal grievance on March 9, 2026. After more than a month, I have not received even a basic acknowledgment of receipt. I resent the grievance on April 3, 2026, including additional details to ensure a complete record. Again, there has been no response. This lack of acknowledgment is particularly concerning given that the organization explicitly advised me to submit a grievance. I also requested contact information for the Board of Directors, which was refused. This has been an ongoing issue, and the absence of any response raises serious concerns about transparency, accountability, and how concerns from the public are handled within an organization that states it "respects individual rights" and aims to support the community. The failure to acknowledge or address a formal grievance is, in my opinion, unacceptable.

She was patient and helpful and made sure we were comfortable with the setup and ensured things ran smoothly. The presentation was clean and personalized to our religionious preferences. Darling & Fischer were very professional from the first phone call, when I spoke to Maribel, who picked up the phone at a very late hour. Our loved one passed away in another state, and they coordinated with the other mortuary to receive her at the airport. The rest of the staff were gracious and helpful as well, and there was always someone receiving guests at the entrance or making sure to help guests find our place. The casket and flowers surpassed expectations, and the AV setup was sufficient for the size of the room (the main chapel downstairs). A separate room was also prepared for refreshments and coffee, and a podium for speakers. Annie worked with our religious leader to have the altar set up, and the settings were beautiful. After the funeral procession departed for the burial site we forgot several items. Steve and Danna were there and remembered to bring it for us. It's the little details that made this memorable and painless. I am considering DF for my own policy now that I'm older, and definitely know they will take good care of my family when it's my turn.

One complaint: I wish it had been disclosed earlier to me that all their South Bay locations, including the Cupertino location on Moorpark, were closed to the public, and the nearest option to pick up ashes was all the way in Brentwood - nearly a 1.5 hr drive away. If I had known that, I likely would have picked a different service as long drives are hard for me, and having ashes delivered felt inappropriate to me.

She took almost all my phone calls immediately and responded to my text right away even on her days off. Margarita made a slide show for me and then because of time constraints on my end, she redid it for me at no extra cost. All the people that I spoke with there were all very helpful and I did not experience any resistance from them when I was asking for special favors. I would not hesitate to use them again.
