Great place. Came here because of a Geocache outside but I've also followed the cats on facebooks for months! Never knew it was back here but it's beautiful

    Love Mouse's bow tie!

I always have to stop... even if its just for a clean bathroom or to pet kitties. Then, husband had blood sugar issues and they sent him a few Hershey bars no question. It's a warehouse style place brimming with books ranging from literature to fiction to history to hobbyist books. If you're looking to learn something new, this is the place! There's reoccurring and lively book clubs as well. And the friendly bookstore cats, both resident and rescue, are part of the charm... makes me love this even more! Like something out of a book... and that's kind of the point now, right?!

You would expect to find books in a bookstore, right? Check. You would also expect to find cats in a bookstore too, right? WTF? Regardless of what you might be expecting, that's what you're getting here at Cupboard. Lots of books and you can also go home with a cat if you so choose via their adoption process. We came here on a Sunday afternoon and the place was bumpin'. Busy as in the parking lot pretty much full type of busy. This sort of distracted us from the browsing experience due to the narrow isles and how there were people everywhere. In all fairness, we had just come from Midtown Scholar where the browsing space is exponentially larger than it is here so it's not really fair to compare but either way it's still annoying to have someone up your butt every two seconds. Big difference between here and Midtown is that Cupboard sells mountains of paperbacks and used books where as at Midtown it's all new plus many other things. Well, there's also a difference in the inventory at each place as well. Thousands of titles of smut (sorry - historical romance) here that you would never find at Midtown and things here are also not labeled as well and more jammed together which I get is probably an inconvenience of a smaller footprint. In the end we didn't buy anything as there were too many people to browse in a comfortable way and also too many kids terrorizing the cats with tail tanking, picking them up and chasing them back by the bathrooms to be enjoyable. If you go, there is plenty of inventory. I mean there are titles everywhere and easily they've got to have over 100,000+ mashed in here. Just know that the isles are narrow and on weekends it gets busy, I mean really busy which is a real PIA. If you can swing it, I think a weekday visit would offer a much better chance to interact with the staff, browse the titles and see the furry residents. (FWIW, no litter box or pet odors that I could detect while we were there.) (FWIW II, if you're into a good rail foam at the mouth experience, Norfolk Southern's massive Enola Yard is right across the street. Guaranteed you'll see some action if you hang around long enough.)

A hidden gem on the west shore, I past this place going to pick up my sister and from the outside knew I had to explore it! Flash forward to the weekend and my husband and I were back to explore this treasure trove of books! It's a little overwhelming at first seeing wall to ceiling shelves of books but after that you can clearly see how they are organized. Cherry on top was the fact they double as a foster/adoption rep for Castaway Critters. They didnt have any adoptable cats at the time we went but we enjoyed their 3 resident cats randomly sleeping, meowing, and following us around. I purchased a few young adult novels that were missing from my collection and husband got a few mystery books to check out. Price wise its pretty fair and on par with other used book stores. Each of mine were $4 and husbands hardcover mystery was $8. Well worth a stop if you're in the area, love book and cats.

Absolutely LOVED this bookstore!! We came during a romance book signing and my SIL and I both got books from the author. Cats are running around and the selection is ENORMOUS.

We love reading all the notes people leave, the artwork...

Who wouldn't love this magical wonder? First off, the outside of the building with its fantastical artwork begs for you to stop by, and when you find out there's CATS everywhere inside you can't help but fall in love! Annika the Queen is the cutest smooshy face cat ever, she is super loved! We just love it here, the smell of books, the whole layout, searching and looking through lots of treasures is simply a delight. Truly my favorite bookstore! Kudos to the owners for their dedication in maintaining such a wonderful place!

I preordered my personalized signed copy of Lucy Score's Things We Hide From The Light from this amazing bookstore and it arrived in excellent condition! Very well packaged, shipped quickly to CA and looks perfect in person! Thank you all so much!

Nice sized book store with a wide variety of used books. The only complaint I have is that some of the shelves could be labeled a little better. Unrelated to it being a book store but they have a few cats that they bring to the store that you can see waking around. It's neat if you like cats.

Really great place! Lots of Mystery mostly, but a cool place to visit.
    Maria C.

Cool place to visit if your a book reader. It's mostly mysteries but still a fun place to explore. Cute cats for sure.

Let's go home today with a pile of great books, and a cat! (Yes! The cat went home with the kid, after a background check.)
    Lisa S.

Best bookstore ever, absolutely because of the people. Owner Michelle loves books with a passion and can help you find something perfect for you, and not just the books in her preferred genres -- she has an incredible breadth of knowledge and explains writing styles and plotlines very accessibly. Also, her staff shares her love of books and enjoys working at Cupboard Maker, which makes it a great environment to pop in and browse. Adding to the ambiance of the shop is the 250+ feet of overhead catwalk. Not for models, for actual cats! Cupboard Maker has placed dozens of cats that they foster thru Castaway Critters. Finally, there are at least 5 active book clubs and it's great to discuss books and make friends at the same time.

Lady Matilda and I come to the market for our meats and spices, grab a soft pretzel or three from the Amish kiosk, and see what the Bookworm has to surprise us. It's a friendly shop where they remember you and your tastes. I've converted a lot of clients and friends in the area who were quick to dismiss it as just another dirt-mall book dump. Absolutely not. The store carries the professionalism of classic independent booksellers with the fun of a friendly mom-and-pop store. Take a break from the busy market on your next visit.

There's so much to see inside, with all kinds of book genres all well-organized and easy to search. The staff was incredibly friendly and approached me twice to ask if there was something they could help me find. They knew where everything was and knew sometimes even before they'd look what was on the shelves and what wasn't (or what just sold a couple of days/weeks ago). Very insightful and their kindness made the experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend for the used book lover!

This shop looks tiny when you first enter (downdownstairs in a great bookshop), but don't let your first glance deceive you. As you go from one small room into another and another and another, you will realize there are plenty of places to get lost looking through old books. Some titles are in other languages (lots of German), and some are behind locked glass doors (the truly rare stuff), but most are fun, random old books with worn pages and aged leather bindings. Looking through them is fun and could help you kill a few hours for sure. So, whether you're looking for a special, rare find (in the hundreds of dollars), or in it for the look of old books on your pristine shelves ($10 and $20 aisles!), this deceptively large rare book shop should have you covered. As it turned out, the name actually comes from "second-hand" (as in buybacks and trade-ins), and the first name of its founder, Charles Anderson. The chain has 40 locations across 18 states and is owned by its parent company, Book-A-Million, which was founded by Charles father, Clyde. It's bitter sweet that it moved from the now-dismantled Harrisburg East Mall to its current location. The business survived, but I like the old setting better, where it was part of a shopping mall and you could just stroll into the store during a general window-shopping trip. The new location is standalone, right across from the county courthouse (are the prisons still there?), where Toys "R" Us used to be. It has to be a dedicated trip. The new store is much larger, however. It has all kinds of books, including rare titles and collectibles. There are also gifts, CDs, musical instruments, and even LEGO bricks sold by weight. Heck, they even buy back old LEGO sets! Jumping on the "blind box" bandwagon, they now sell "Mystery Boxes" as well.
