I browsed through the books & finally landed on the true crime section, which peaked my interest. I grabbed a book & took it to checkout, they were polite & offered me a bag. When I found a book and bought it the lady at the counter was being pretty rude. I went there before and no issue but I dont think I will be going again due to how uncomfortable me and my family was, especially when they are supposed to promote the cats for adoption.

What an absolute gem of a bookshop The Book House is in Dillsburg! I cannot convey in words just…read morehow delightful this place is - it's everything you'd hope for in a small, hole in the wall, everything's cramped but also clearly well maintained "there's hidden treasure everywhere" kind of place. The selection of used books is astounding, and the varying levels of quality was unexpected too - nothing was garbage, and while there are clearly used books here, there are also really nice, mint level books too. To give you an idea of the scope of books I'm talking about here, I left with a mint paperback of Starship Troopers from 1997, and a high quality copy of the published 1896 Pennsylvania School Laws (yes, that's a very old book). The staff are incredibly helpful and know their inventory well - don't be afraid to ask for help finding something if you've spent 20 minutes lost in treasure hunting mode. I cannot stress enough how great The Book House is - it is the quintessential used bookshop where you'll find yourself fully immersed in the browsing experience. Check it out whenever you get a chance!

If we didn't have somewhere to be when we stopped we definitely would have been there for more than the 45mins we spent there. There are so many rooms, and a basement overflowing with books. They also have CDs, records, vhs tapes, art work, old magazines/news papers..just so many things. The prices on some things are a touch high...but it's worth it if it keeps Grumpy's going. There is a public restroom if you end up staying longer than expected..like we did. We ended up taking home 5 books, a picture we took off the wall, and an awesome experience..spent $16 for everything.

As it turned out, the name actually comes from "second-hand" (as in buybacks and trade-ins), and the first name of its founder, Charles Anderson. The chain has 40 locations across 18 states and is owned by its parent company, Book-A-Million, which was founded by Charles father, Clyde. It's bitter sweet that it moved from the now-dismantled Harrisburg East Mall to its current location. The business survived, but I like the old setting better, where it was part of a shopping mall and you could just stroll into the store during a general window-shopping trip. The new location is standalone, right across from the county courthouse (are the prisons still there?), where Toys "R" Us used to be. It has to be a dedicated trip. The new store is much larger, however. It has all kinds of books, including rare titles and collectibles. There are also gifts, CDs, musical instruments, and even LEGO bricks sold by weight. Heck, they even buy back old LEGO sets! Jumping on the "blind box" bandwagon, they now sell "Mystery Boxes" as well. It's a fantastic spot to treasure-hunt and/or sell items from your weekend clean-outs. It's great to see a unique business like this continue to thrive.

I had to stop in as I love a local bookstore and was blown away. It's a cafe and plant store with the best curated book selection I've seen. It's a tight collection of books and the owners were celebrating their one year opening and were giving out cookies! I would make the hour drive just to spend time in this bookstore! The staff made my friend really good about her book purchase. There's a dedicated children's section that's so cozy and instagrammable. There was also a sale cart which you don't often see in bookstores, if you're looking for a bargain might be a good stop for you. I'm still thinking about this bookstore as I write the review.
