After a dinner in a near by Holly restaurant, we walked around the area and found Cupcakes and Kisses. This is a wonderful place to get a dessert or sweet treat. The Staff is as sweet as the items they sell. They are also friendly and genuinely seemed pleased to see us walk in. Many wonderful tasty treats to eat there on the spot, or to take with you. Lots & lots of Sweet deals we found too. Since there are just the two of us at home, we often buy a few extra items and freeze them when we get home. The idea is to thaw the teats out and have with our coffee & tea. However we are finding it hard to wait for the thaw and are beginning to enjoy Cupcakes & Kisses frozen treats. We ordered a layer cake for a special occasion...white cake with strawberry between the layers and butter cream frosting. Unfortunately we were disappointed in the entire cake. They put butter cream between the layers and VERY LITTLE strawberry. The cake itself was dry with little flavor. When cut into the layers were uneven. We asked for black and gold embellishment and there were black and gold sprinked on the cake...not very nice looking. As a result I won't be using this establishment again. read more

Now that's what a bakery ought to be. I came across this bakery while out for the day in Holly with my wife. We looked inside and my wife thought it looked cute inside, so we walked in to see what they had. What they had was an amazing selection of baked goods. Cupcakes, cinnamon rolls, breads, cakes- you name it, they had it. As someone with a culinary background in pastry arts from way back when, I can usually tell if a bakery is the real thing or just a cute shop that doesn't bake its goods in house and is more of a poser. This was the real thing. I took a look at the kitchen, the equipment, the way it was laid out and spoke with the girl running the place for awhile. This was the real thing. Everything is baked on the premises, not shipped in or purchased elsewhere. Too many bakeries do that and have the nerve to call themselves a bakery when in fact, they are not. Fortunately, this was an authentic, small-town bakery hitting all the right notes. When we first walked in, my wife remarked that it felt like we had stepped into Star's Hollow, the fictional backdrop of Gilmore Girls. It was so quaint and exuded such a small town feel, I must say that she was right. There was an old fireplace in one corner, several cozy sitting areas and large tables made out of reclaimed wood covered in adverts for area businesses underneath a glass top. The girl at the counter offered us both a bevy of free cupcake and cake samples. I tried 4-5 and each flavor was better than the last. Devil's food chocolate, carrot cake, french vanilla, chocolate peanut butter, cheesecake, I could go on, but I won't. Everything was fantastic, made fresh with unique flavorings, icing and even topped with berries in some cases. The cupcakes and cakes looked great, too, very sculptural and detailed, more like a work of art. I could tell someone that loves to bake put a lot of time and effort into them. I picked up some fresh-baked cinnamon rolls to go. They were only $3 for two good-sized rolls. They were delicious. I wish I had bought a few more for the road, but I probably would have gobbled them up quick. They have Hudsonville Ice Cream, too. Even though I can buy Hudsonville at the grocery store, I thought it was nice to have ice cream in the bakery as well because sometimes you just want a cone when it's hot or you have the kids with you. For an independent bakery in a well-to-do touristy town, the prices were fair for the area. Cupcakes and specialty pies and cakes in bigger cities charge more for their products. read more

There was one person in line ahead of us yet it took 10+ minutes to get this man his two items and to check him out. There were three employees working. Well, one was technically working. Found ourselves in downtown Holly today, a Monday afternoon, and had a faith-in-humans redeeming moment at Cupcakes and Kisses. The owner was so kind, welcoming and thoughtful she made our whole day. The sign said closed, but she saw my three daughters and me standing outside looking sad, so she opened the door and sold us the most amazing assortment of carrot cake, mini-cheesecakes, cookies and cupcakes. When we walked out I told my teenage daughters, "now that's how you run a business, and that's how you treat people!" So I made it a learning moment, too. Thank you, Cupcakes snd Cookies. The cinnamon roll was tasty however I couldn't help but notice how badly the whole placed needed to be cleaned. We arrived around noon on a Friday and we were the only customers. Every table was dirty, floor was dirty, trash can was full, bathroom was dirty. Sadly the entire place needed a layer of dusty fur removed from floor to ceiling fixtures. I think that our family has been through enough heartache as it is... Time will not heal this brokenness and having heartless people treat our children as if their feelings are irrelevant really drives a mama to her breaking point... So we were told that anytime we wanted we could take our kids in for a free cupcake. today was the 2nd time since November of last year they went in. Talee takes her 3 siblings out once a month to do fun stuff together and to keep a close bond, it's how they are coping with the loss of their 9 year old brother So she takes them in to get cupcakes and tells the girl who they are and asks if they still honor their word; the girl says she needs to ask the owner... Within earshot the owner tells the girl " NO Ben has been dead a long time now" then all huffy throwing her arms around said " Whatever just give it to them" then stormed off The girl came back up to the front and told my kids that this would be the last time they get a free cupcake so Talee said " can I ask why?" With tears in her eyes this poor girl said " well I guess some time has passed since Ben died so..." Couldn't even finish her sentence It's not about free cupcakes... it's not even about keeping their "word", especially to children... It's the blaighten disregard of respect, the dismissal of my children's feelings, and the fact that they think there is a time limit on grief...as if my son was only sick for a while and he's coming home soon Beyond disgusted and hope to God they NEVER have to endure such pain and great loss. read more

Friday night (Aug 4th, 2017) the wife and I, along with another couple, stopped in for dessert after dinner. The place is uniquely rusticated with barn wood, old window frames and tables made of old home radiators. Lots of charm and welcoming. We were greeted right away by Ashley S. and Stephanie F. who were extremely friendly and a lot of fun to talk to. They were very helpful and made our desserts fresh right there while we waited. We got peanut butter cheese cake, Snicker's cheese cake and a few cupcakes...all which were outstanding! They were also nice enough to make us fresh decaf coffee to enjoy with our sweet treats.
