I went to Crust a couple years ago for brunch. I thought I did a review, but I guess not. Most recently during a very long Hospital stay downtown, my friend has been bringing me croissants from Crust. Oh my gosh, if I close my eyes, I'd swear I'm in Paris. The regular croissant is outstanding, I had it with mushroom bisque. MWAH! The butter... OMG. This morning, I'm having pain au chocolates. I'm having it my way, with a little PB&J. Went in for lunch this afternoon and ordered the Maurice Salad. It had very little dressing so i asked for extra dressing, and when the bill came they charged me $3 for a side a dressing. I am shocked and feel like after spending $18.50 on a salad this is just very tacky. I think if you order a salad they probably should just throw that in. Kinda disappointed. $3 seems a little insane. read more

We came here for the cafe for lunch during the week of thanksgiving. It was super busy, but that's understandable because they sell a lot of pies. The sandwiches were good, everyone liked it. The cafe prices are not great, but fair. Around $15-17 for a sandwich and chips. The sandwiches were good! To go we got some donuts and breads from the bakery counter. $5 for a donut and $8-10 for a loaf of bread is pretty high. The baguette we got was not very good, super hard. I'm used to a crispy crust but still soft inside French bread. This one was not soft inside at all. I thought it was baked that morning, as is usual with bakeries but I'm guessing likely not. On my latest visit, I picked up a chocolate and pistachio croissant, and a piece of chocolate cake. I also got a slice of carrot cake for my husband. The croissant was all about the pistachio, and had a deliciously nutty filling. The chocolate flavor was almost completely absent due to the croissant only having the thinnest possible drizzle on top. Don't buy this, as I did, thinking you are going to get the combined deliciousness of chocolate and pistachio. I thought my chocolate cake was merely adequate. It didn't blow me away with chocolatiness, and it wasn't particularly moist. I wouldn't order this again. I did try a bite of my husband's carrot cake and thought it exceptional. Alright so my parents have been raving about this place for years. "You will love it more than The Laundry." "It's the BEST brunch ever." So finally they convinced me to go on Sunday morning in October. Our server was really kind, but everything else was sub par. The cinnamon roll was mid at best and my corned-beef hash was overdone, eggs and toast, cold. And very overpriced. We waited 25 minutes for a table, 45 minutes for breakfast, spent 20 minutes eating and another 15 minutes waiting for our bill. If I am going to spend that much time at a restaurant, it better be godlike perfection and Michelin star rated; it wasn't and isn't. I'm going to stick with the Laundry. I think they have the same owners or did at some point. read more

A surprise hiding in downtown Fenton. This place has an impressive bakery operation visible from the street and a nice bakery counter inside to go with their restaurant. They also lay claim to the best bakery in Michigan according to MLive.com. But we were disappointed to learn upon arrival at the host station that their pizza oven was down and therefore no pizza or bread sticks would be available. You think they might repurpose another oven? Or not. Regardless, my wife was itching for pizza and wasn't excited at going without. She and the kids all ended up having chicken tenders and fries and being satisfied. I had the Eggs Benedict which is apparently a favorite. With good reason. They were among the best version of the dish I had. Two niggling faults. I wish it was a few degrees warmer and the hollandaise a little less lemon tangy. Otherwise it was near perfect on a bed of house baked muffin. It was a busy noon time rush so we'll excuse service that bordered on slow. I consider the accolades well earned, but the prices are also nearing gold plated, so be forewarned. Still definitely worth a second trip if we're in the area. read more

My lunch at Crust today was just okay--not nearly as good as it has been in the past, which was disappointing. The positives: The wait time was reasonable, the waitstaff was friendly, patient with our need for additional time order to make a decision, and attentive. Our waters never made it to empty. The French onion soup was fabulous and is highly recommended. My son's breakfast burrito was stuffed to the brim and featured two sauces split on the top. He reported it as tasting great, and he even had leftovers, which is rare for a teen boy. The waitress graciously arranged the sandwich that my husband and I were splitting into two plates, Welch complete with its own portion of chip, pickle spear, and au jus without being asked to do so. It was a nice touch that did not come with an up charge. The cons: The acoustics make it very hard to hear one another at the table. Perhaps I have simply not been here when it was as busy? Second, the coffee wasn't great. At a place like this, I expect that even the brewed coffee will taste great, and it simply did not. Finally, the Mr. Frenchie sandwich lacked flavor. It had a perfect amount of roast beef--not skimped at all--but it was just bland. I wouldn't order it again. I love Crust and especially love their bakery, but today it did not merit the pricey lunch. read more

Everything was wonderful! The atmosphere, food, options, and service! I've lived here for years and been to the front bakery but never had the chance to get into the restaurant. We went on a Sunday so it was extra busy. We were told there would be a 45 minute wait but I don't think it was even close to that. The baked goods here are good. I drive 30 minutes plus every couple weeks to pick up bread and dog biscuits. 50% of the time they don't have what I want because I get there around 3 o'clock in the afternoon obviously that's my problem. I need to get there earlier, but the people behind the counter really need to work on their attitude. Fenton is a nice area and quite often they come across as they're doing you a favor by waiting on you. The ambience isn't very inviting. It's pretty obvious they want you to use their restaurant and not just sit at one of their tables and enjoy a goodie and a cup of coffee. If I was aware of another decent bakery nearby I would probably stop going to Crust. read more

Service always friendly and prompt. Food is delicious! We've gotten both pastries to go, salads and sandwiches to go and have dined in their restaurant. I personally cannot recommend their Maurice salad enough, it's the best I've had in Michigan. My husband gets the chicken sandwich and it's super tasty. No reservation or call ahead seating. Server was personable, nice, and ADHD-adjacent. Food and drinks were SLLLOW all around. .. noticed she forgot stuff from other tables, forgot our condiment and took it from neighboring guests' table, and grabbed check receipt without clearing table at end of the experience. I went here on a Sunday and we had about a 20min wait. We ordered some drinks and they were very good however they were out of an ingredient for the espresso martini so that was sad. The banana old fashioned was very very good. I had the meatball sandwich was good and my girlfriend had the avocado toast which she really liked. Hands down the best bakery in Michigan. Just a few minutes off of US-23 south of Flint and well worth the detour. Not only is their deep selection of breads, doughnuts, danishes, scones, croissants, bagels, and cakes all amazing/delicious but it's reasonably priced too. Crust used to be a small bakery in the back of French Laundry. We arrived on Thursday afternoon and found them half a mile down the road and now takes up the block just off downtown. They have a full dining room and a separate full bakery with coffee shop. They are used to being busy and make it easy to get thru the line for takeout. My mom was on the hunt for the Tri-county pepper bread. The slices of cake and pie were very tempting at half off. We picked up chocolate cake and a fruit pie slice along with couple loaves of bread and a nitro cold brew. I was asked if I wanted cream in the cold brew. Yes, but that was it. Idk what sweeteners were available if any. It wasn't offered and I didn't want to hold the line. I didn't see any around for self service either. They will slice your bread if you like and provide a plastic bag with tie in the paper bag for when you slice into it yourself. That's a nice little touch. My mom took one bite of the chocolate cake and was horribly disappointed. My stepdad said it was good, and finished it up. I don't like cake. The sourdough is great though. Next time I'll try English muffin bread. Glad to see them grow and doing so well. read more

Met my friend for lunch today at crust and omg, 10/10. The absolute cutest place, the vibes are immaculate. The bakery in the front to take home goodies was so cute! I splurged and bought a few sweets to take to my husband. The food we ate was seriously so delicious, the everything breadsticks to die for. I could have just ate those. I had the coulter classic and it was amazing. My friend had the chicken and biscuit and it was also super delicious. I appreciated the bathroom situation, I have a 15 month old and being able to lock the door and change her, while also being able to use the restroom was amazing! The service was great! I typically really enjoy Crust, but my latest experience was a little disappointing. We both had the corned beef pastrami skillet. The potato chunks were too large and it was over seasoned. Way too salty. I've had it before and it was great the first time. Service was great but food is usually top notch. Not so much this time. I'll go back and try something else. For the first time today I did a carryout order from both the bakery and the restaurant and both were great. Because I have a 30-40 minute (depending on traffic) drive back home I haven't done much beyond their bakery / pastry items but today I took a chance on the restaurant sandwiches and, as I had hoped, they held up great after a drive back to Ann Arbor. I did the club sandwich and it was HUGE. Definitely enough for two meals. It came with a side of their housemade chips which were also delicious. Their online ordering system continues to be a snap and pick up was easy. Stopped in for some coffee following a dinner at another establishment in the Fenton area and was so impressed with their offerings that we ended up buying a loath of their house made sour dough bread and some of their Pain Aux Raisins pastries. Coffee was excellent which we had on site in their outdoor table area as were the house made sourdough bread and pastry which we had later at home. My wife is the sourdough guru of the family and said this bread has the perfect texture for toasting which she prefers and was very high on the bread. The pastry was equally good. Definately looking forward to my next trip to Fenton as I want to try a smattering of their other baked goods and potentially will have a meal at their on site restaurant as well as their menu looked like a great place to go for Breakfast...... read more

We were so excited when this location opened near our home and we walk here 1-2x/week. We have always enjoyed the Chandler location but hardly ever could get to that side of town. Happy hour 3-6 M-F has great options and our boys have lots of room to run around on the grassy areas while waiting for our food.
