I could never pass up stopping at a bakery especially if there is cupcakes. I got spoiled by living near on of the best bakeries in Detroit in North Rosedale Park that was legendary over 90 years. Since it closed upon the owners retirement, I have looked for something similar but usually disappointed mostly. Not here, the cupcakes I brought was some of the best I have had in my 60+ years. Fresh, flavorable, and rich. Well worth the $4.75 each cost. Service was friendly and efficient that seemed to enjoy talking with the customers. Plenty of parking in the front. At the SE corner of Longlake and Woodward right next to the new Einstein Bagels. I hope to find my way back to this area because it is worth stopping. read more

I was searching for a new bakery to try. Happened upon Bloomfield Bakeshop. Ordered four cupcakes. Carrot Cream Cheese, Birthday Cake, Vanilla Chocolate and Bloomfield Bumpy Cake. Talk about DELICIOUS! You can tell they are baked FRESH daily. Not overwhelmingly sweet and the icing is scrumptious! Price is on par at $5.50 each. They have a menu that changes monthly, along with special items for holidays and other special occasions. These were for my birthday and a nice handwritten card was included. The ribbon was $1.50 extra but added to celebratory occasion. I had a plate that matched so used it to create a nice photo, including adding a candle and making a wish! The rude employee who took our order is probably why it got messed up in the first place. she was giving attitude and not wanting to do her job and after spending 30 minutes trying to figure it out with her I asked to use the bathroom and she says no also very loud inside. Yummy cupcakes is one of my favorite bakeries in Oakland county. In addition to cupcakes they also sell cookies and macaron's with all types of flavors to choose from. My FAVORITE cupcake here is the vanilla bean. It may seem simple, but I think when it comes to desert sometimes less is more. I'll order four at a time sometimes just because they're just that good. By the drive home I'll only have two left! They also carry vegan and gluten free options as well which is a nice touch. The owners have always been very kind and they're fast as well. There is also a reward system that allows you to earn points for every purchase. The cake is moist and flavorful, topped by an appropriately large pile of frosting. A few cupcakes have added decor, but it's tasteful, nothing like the aforementioned Bloody Mary. Prices are market rate - fair, especially considering the high quality in high-rent Bloomfield Hills. There are enough selections to be interesting without overwhelming your decision-making. I have not had a bad cupcake here, but I'm partial to the carrot cake and the banana cake. Also, it's fairly spartan which I appreciate for a bakery. How have I forgotten to review Yummy Cupcakes before now? My goodness I am a slacker. This cupcake shop is the real deal. I love to bake and can decipher a great cupcake from an okay one and this places knows great ones! I try to eat healthy but sometimes a girl craves something sweet and doesn't need to bake a dozen for herself, enter Yummy Cupcakes. They have a large selection of flavors daily, if you visit their website you can see their daily calendar of flavors for the entire month, which is awesome. But what makes this place special to me is that they offer gluten free and vegan cupcakes as well. Every day they offer at least two different gluten free flavors and at least one vegan. They are also listed on the calendar. They also will swap out a frosting flavor for you if you're not digging what they have that day. They also offer a loyalty rewards program where you collect stars for every dollar spent and that gets you free cupcakes in the future. If you sign up for their text messages you randomly get bogo deals every once and awhile too. Lastly, the staff here are so friendly. Well, this place is Yummy! I was so excited to see so many varieties of cupcakes. They even had a good selection of gluten free and vegan options. I picked up eight different varieties and each looked better than the next. My favorite has to be the bumpy cake and smore. The most unique was a cupcake that looks like a bejeweled apple. The first set was such a success, I grabbed another set for a party the following day. Tip, they have a club and if you sign up you get an email offer for a free cupcake. I'd heard wonderful things about this cupcake store, so stopped in to check it out for a friend who was having an event coming up for which she was thinking of serving cupcakes. I got 4 minis for us to try as well as 2 regular size. Most were disappointing. The Minis we got were lemon bar, salted caramel chocolate, red velvet, and a cinnamon Apple. The large sizes were chocolate chocolate and carrot cake. The only 2 cupcakes we thought were worth eating were the salted caramel chocolate and the carrot cake. For those two the cake itself was moist and had some flavor. The cake part of all the others was dry, so dry as to be unpleasant -- as almost all "boutique" cupcakes seem to be. (What happened to the Trifles cake shop on Commerce Rd? They had wonderfully moist cupcakes.) All of them had more frosting than cake, and were almost intolerably sweet. The lemon bar cupcake was wonderfully lemony, but the flavor was all in the frosting with tasteless dry cake under it, and also was WAY too sweet. The fact that they were voted best cupcakes in both Detroit and Michigan just shows the less than ideal availability of good cupcakes. Was hoping we'd found a cupcake shop to replace Trifles, but sadly, not. read more

Hip hip, hooray! My all-time favorite cupcake bakery EVER. I found them when I lived in Los Angeles and I could not be happier to have them here in Michigan. Bloomfield Hills is a hike for me from Ann Arbor, but I would come from much farther (and in fact I have shipped myself their cupcakes many times). Specific to this location: the staff are very kind, helpful and enthusiastic about what they do. Being the aficionado that I am, I called a few times to ask about opening, hours, flavors, etc - and they were always patient and helpful. I had the same warm experience when I most recently called to order some cupcakes-in-a-jar (note that these require call-ahead) and when I mentioned I would be coming in to pick them up in the evening, the woman on the phone offered to hold aside any special flavor cupcakes I wanted from that day - knowing they often sell out before closing time. The shop itself is a little small and it is tucked away in an inconspicuous strip mall. I wish there were a couple of tables to sit and enjoy your cupcakes - my fiance and I couldn't wait the 1hr trip home, so we shared a cupcake awkwardly standing around in the store before we left. I also wouldn't mind if they offered water, soft drinks, coffee/tea... The cupcakes are just hands-down heaven in a wrapper. They are moist, rich and topped with THE BEST buttercream I've ever tasted. (Note that I prefer the sweet-sugary kind, not the light buttery kind.) Their cream cheese frosting is phenomenal too and maybe a little better if you don't have a monster sweet-tooth like me (try it in regular or cocoa-cream cheese on a red velvet!). I've never had a flavor I didn't like - which is saying a lot, since Yummy Cupcakes offers a TON of flavors. Various daily offerings (of which the "Yummy Cupcake" is my favorite) and a rotating daily special menu that includes some pretty incredible sugar-free, gluten-free and vegan options. My top must-try flavors: - The "Yummy" (classic chocolate cake with pink vanilla buttercream) - Red Velvet with any variety of cream-cheese icing (half/half is fun) - Brown Sugar Cinnamon, Cinnamon Bun, and any other cinnamon variety (like Snickerdoodle) - Mint Chocolate Chip - Salty Craving (it had a potato chip buttercream!) - Champagne Cream (was a special for the Oscars) - Strawberry Shortcake (had a rich strawberry buttercream and a light cream filling) ....and now excuse me while I clean the drool off of my keyboard. read more
