The shop itself was wonderfully decorated and had a wide variety of books and souvenirs. I went to the shop a few times during the week we were there. All of the customer service staff at the shop were amazing, one of which went digging through boxes in the back for 5 minutes so they could find my size in a shirt I really wanted. Since my partner and I were there to celebrate my birthday, we decided to splurge for the bus tour so I could see the local cemeteries. Our tour guide was Lady Lex who had big theatre kid energy in the best way. She was incredibly engaging and patient with everyone who wanted to take a lot of photos. Our bus driver Robert was great as well. I was truly appreciative of Lady Alex's statement at the cemetery that while the stories are intriguing, ultimately they are about real people who lost their lives and we should respect the tragedy of that. While I love a good ghost/true crime story, I think it's important to humanize the subjects of those stories. Overall I had a fantastic time and was really thrilled to see the beautiful architecture of the Menger Hotel and local cemetery. I would definitely recommend the shop and the tour.

If you're feeling industrious the river is within reach of all your missions in the National Park system, 10 miles south of downtown, and Breckenridge Park's Japanese Tea Garden to the north. Our tour guide was so friendly and knowledgeable about the Pearl Brewery area and all the places we stopped. We went to Local Coffee, Southerleigh Brewing, Nao, and Lick. The tour included so much amazing food - you will not leave hungry. San Antonio Detours offers other public tours weekly and I will definitely be checking those out the next time I'm in town. Monte, our storyteller, told us this story of the Alamo, I felt as though I was there! People gathered and it was free will offering into the hat. He was better than any taped headphone set.
