My favorite place in San Antonio…read more I may be a local, but I can't ever seem to get enough of the River Walk. It's easy to walk, the tour boats are novel, rental bikes are everywhere, there are tons of places to eat and shop, and you can even carry open containers of alcohol along the River level. Art museums, hotels, the courthouse, and more can be accessed from the River, so it's easily a huge part of the heart of downtown. The city keeps doing more and more to make the space memorable, so permanent art installations, parks, and other similar features keep getting added as time goes on. If you're visiting from out of town, I can't recommend adding the River Walk to your trip enough. It's absolutely worth experiencing for yourself.

With almost a thousand reviews, the San Antonio Riverwalk maintains a rating of over four stars and…read morethat's pretty amazing. In my opinion, it definitely deserves it. We visited the Riverwalk and surrounding area multiple times on our visit to San Antonio and it was probably the most enjoyable thing that we did while we were there. Just in my few visits, I had lots of different experiences. The Riverwalk can be calm and beautiful or it can be fun and lively and sometimes it can be all of those things just depending on where you are within the walk. Also depending on when you choose to go, as I noticed a distinctly different vibe between my daytime and nighttime visits. As soon as you drop down from the street level into the walk, it's like you're in a whole new place. The water winds through the walk so you always have a lovely view and the calming sound of water with you wherever you venture on the walk. There are tons of shops and restaurants and shaded little spots where you can just sit on a bench and enjoy the ambiance. It's clean, well maintained and surprisingly easy to navigate, especially with all the people moving through it at any particular time. Even though some spots felt crowded, I was still always able to maneuver around without feeling claustrophobic. I think it's the openness of the walk and the fact that the river running right next to you create this open space above. Anyway, I had some really nice meals here and enjoyed some good shopping, but mostly just walking and chatting with the people that I care about while enjoying the beauty of my surroundings. You should definitely put the Riverwalk at the top of your list if you're planning on visiting the area as I can definitely recommend a stop here without hesitation.

Service is fast, place is decently clean for the foot traffic, the servers all look happy and eager to work. I ordered tortilla soup, I usually like it with a cup of rice and avocado like most places serve it. However, I definitely think this is a safe Mexican food restaurant when it comes to not overdoing it with spices and the extra stuff. My soup had a decent amount of chicken. I had a mimosa, loved that they used fresh orange juice. Flour tortillas were delicious! Before heading out you need to have the sweet bread!! So goooodd!

People say when in San Antonio, do like the San Antonian's. Nobody really says that. I mean, I just…read moredid, but I also just made it up. With that being said, let's make up a review. Except I'm not actually making the review up, I've been to the place. Both San Antonio and the restaurant moments away from being reviewed. I'm always down for solid Mexican food. It's always pretty damn good. I mean, at the pure base of things, it's basically the same few ingredients, just different vessels to get it to your mouth. I'm never bad about that. I love transportation. Mi Tierra was a pretty great looking place. Plenty of space, a nice outside waiting area, plus a bakery. I have never been to a place with a bakery that I didn't like. It seemed like a very authentic place, and that's coming from a resident of Michigan. A resident that eats Taco Bell. A resident who eats Taco Bell and think's THAT'S authentic Mexican. The first thing I noticed was that this place did not seem to serve burritos. Not a marker really for me, but it was something I've never came across before. I also thought that you were stuck ordering enchiladas or tacos in a meal type of setting. Upon further questioning, you can order a la cart. That was a relief. I ended up ordering the enchiladas Verdes because sometimes I ignore my color palate and go for green. And because I can't just stop eating one form of meat, cheese, and sauce, I ordered a taco. Actually, I just ordered a taco because I wanted a dryer enchilada. Or did I order the enchiladas because I wanted a wetter taco...I don't know anymore. Anywho, I ground beef, American style taco. Now, I've always been a big fan of chips and salsa. Some salsa hits, some miss. Some salsa is pureed and is basically red water. Some salsa is just a full tomato. I like my salsa like I like my orange juice. With extra calcium. Wait. Mild pulp. That's it. This salsa pretty much hit those notes. Had good flavor and a little spice left to linger. The main course came out and everything looked delicious. Green enchiladas looked exactly like I expected. However, it took me a moment to realize I was not looking at a burrito...but instead, my taco. It was served a peculiar way. wrapped, seam down, with a little bit of the meat on top, pico and lettuce on the outside, next to it. It was a burrito peacocking as a taco. I've never seem this display before, and I have been to many Taco Bell and non-Taco Bell restaurants. The taste was pretty good, though. All the taco flavor in a burrito jacket. The enchiladas were pretty decent, too. Everything tasted like it had all the ingredients and that they were in all the right spots. No doubt about it, I was full after e

We were right on the river walk, but walked through the entire restaurant on our way to be seated and every bit of it is as lovely as where we ended up sitting. The Riverwalk, however, is a people watching place and so there really isn't any place in this particular restaurant which is not gonna be pleasant. Secondly, the service is exceptional. This is a very busy place. However, the waiter was simply incredible. Very attentive, very informative quite humorous. He was frankly part of the river walk entertainment. Extremely accommodating and instructive as well. You can't hope for much more from a server in Restaurant than this activity. The food is really quite good. How are the drinks. Extremely dependable and the portions are generous and equally wonderful. There are many places to dine in San Antonio. However, this is an experience not to be missed and I mean that quite sincerely. Kudos for a very, very well run well situated and well managed enjoyable place to dine on the river walk in San Antonio.

We had a seat at a nice little outdoor table and checked out the menu. Once we got the attention of the wait staff we ordered a flight of multi-flavored Frozen Margaritas and a Botanas Platter consisting of Pollo Poppers, Mini Beef Quesadillas and stuffed Jalapenos along with guacamole and sour cream. The Botanas Platter was light but a bit unexciting/bland so we chose not to have an entrée and continued to sip our Frozen Margaritas on this warm day. All the flavors were delicious and refreshing. I do understand that they were a bit busy, but trying to get the attention of our server was a definite chore and the wait staff did not seem to be terribly interested in assisting anyone or getting the orders out to their customers in a timely manner. This was also the first Mexican Restaurant that did not offer complimentary chips and salsa/queso to their customers. We did find that rather odd. Overall Casa Rio was ok, but the lack of service and disinterest in their customers really put us off but we really did enjoy the flight of frozen Margaritas.

Our waitress Jade was a true salesperson. My wife wanted a $7 domestic beer but Jade kept pointing out the more expensive $19 keep the glass beer. We told her we did not want that item and asked which beers qualified under the $7 price. Jade pointed out Corona. We are not so familiar with beers so again pointing to the $7 dollar beer Jade said it was $7 dollars so we ordered it. Jade had strongly pushed the $27 dollar margaritas but we told her that was expensive and we were not interested in it or the $19 dollar keep the glass beer. When we got our bill we were charged for the $19 dollar beer. We told Jade that we had emphasized and physically pointed out on the menu that we wanted the $7 beer, but she lied and said we did not do so. She then said we had consumed the beer so we had to pay for it. To avoid ruining our evening further I paid the bill and left. Against my normal habit of tipping well for good service I did not tip Jade because she was dishonest. If she had admitted her error I would have been willing to tip my usual 20% but the response from Jade precluded such on my part. I would advise anyone dining there with Jade as their waitress to record a verification of what you ordered or else be prepared for errors on your bill. We will never dine at Rita's on the River again when we return to San Antonio.
