My pup and I love this dog park! There are two separate areas, one is just for small dogs. Both areas are very large in size compared to the other dog parks we have visited....plentiful space for serious zoomies up and down the hill and around the trees. We normally visit during the afternoon on a Saturday or Sunday. I have never seen more than a handful of other people or pups (in the small dog area - where we go). There are several picnic tables and benches, water bowls (all of which have been full with cold water when we get there, but make sure to bring water with you), dog toys like balls and tug of war ropes, and waste bag stations. Roxy loves investigating all of the smells. She's also been so good at socializing with other pups, rather than hiding under mom's feet, and the other doggies have always been very nice to her/us. Clean, big area fully fenced in with open fields and also trails through the woods, big hills for the dogs to run. Dogs there were friendly, as were the owners. $5/day seemed like a good deal. Had a park ranger on-site as well to make sure folks paid. read more

We love this dog park. It IS a huge dog park (10 acres) so if your dog doesn't listen well and you can deal with them running away from you, don't come here because your dog can get out of your sight very easily. In general, the dogs and their owners are well-behaved. On occasion, an owner has gotten a little over protective of their dog when mine has played with theirs.. Dogs will be dogs! Lots of woods, and lots of hills, so don't come here right after a rainstorm or a big snow melt unless you have lots of towels with you. read more

I've been to Currie Dog Park on several occasions now. The word magnificent comes to mind when I think of the vast green space Milwaukee County Parks has contrived to set aside specifically for local pups! We frequently travel with our dogs and have been to many dog parks throughout the nation and Currie ranks as one of the nicest we've been to (the only other one we've been to that comes close was one in Missoula, Montana). Currie features vast expanses of green for free run, a wooded area, walking trails, fenced perimeter, and double gate entry/exit system. There are plenty of water dishes provided and dispersed throughout the park (you need to bring your own water to fill the dishes) as well as bags provided for cleanup. In order to enjoy the park, dogs must be licensed as well as have a Dog Exercise Area permit. I've gone in the late afternoon as well as early evening and Scout (my Irish Setter) has always had a slew of canine pals to run and play with. For the most part, we've encountered only wonderfully behaved and well socialized dogs. There are occasionally park goers who don't clean up after their dog, so once in a while you'll come across a mess. Also, on the rare occasion, someone will inappropriately bring in a dog that isn't well socialized enough to go off leash with other dogs (ie: aggressive). But, those are definitely the exception and not the rule. For the most part, people are quite good about cleaning up after their dogs and keeping watch on canine behavior. Beautiful spaces like Currie Dog Park are made great by those that utilize them, so, a little common sense and good citizenship goes a long way. WARNINGDOG SAFETY PSA Today while walking into the park, my dog was attacked by another dog. My dog ran into the park, a Rottweiler was running towards him from the opposite direction. The Rottweiler run up to him, bit the hind end of my dog and then ran away. My dog was left with two deep puncture wounds that required him to go to the emergency vet and get staples and three medications. The owner of the Rottweiler, a guy in his mid 20s-30s, acknowledged that his dog collided with mine, acknowledged that my dog ran away yelping, and refused to admit that it was his dog that caused the injury even though it was painfully obvious that he witnessed and knew what happened. I'm not saying that the dog was a bad dog because I know these things can happen, especially with bigger tougher breeds. The problem was with the way the owner reacted. I am writing this post to warn owners to keep a close eye on their dogs and make sure they are safe. I in no way fault the park. It truly is an amazing park maintained by amazing people. I just wish all the owners were considerate of their dogs. I don't want to see this happen to any more pups who are just there to have a fun play day. read more

I don't have a dog...I have two cats. Exercising & socializing well with others are not two big cat priorities. However, sometimes during my lunch or if I need to hang around tosa to meet with friends/appointment/ etc after work and have a few minutes to spare, I like to come to the dog park or the road/grass next to it to walk (lunch) or jog (after work). Many people walk or run here (in addition to canines) and its a somewhat peaceful spot only seconds from the hustle and bustle of Mayfair Road. A golf course and menomonee river park way line the other side of the street. Its almost always busy here. Since they expanded the park, its never like there isn't enough room for the dogs or anything, it just looks like it is a well used dog park. And the dogs? I know they can't smile but the ones I see here just always look so happy when they are running around. The bigger ones seem to hang with one another and run around, and the tiny ones hang out by their owners/picnic tables. Think you have to get a permit to use any of the dog parks - so shots have to be up to date, etc. Secretly, I sometimes think it would be fun to have a little dog. Honestly, this dog park is a big and beautiful, and it features a nice wooded area, but there are far too many unfriendly dogs. I have witnessed numerous dog fights and my own dog has been involved in two. In one attack, my dog had a puncture wound on his cheek. The dog park rangers NEED to be at the park more often and resolve these conflicts as they happen. This is a lovely dog park! It's fully fenced in and has double door gated entry points. There is a large area of open, grassy space making this a good park for dogs that want to wrestle with other pups and run long distance. There is also a wooded area with trails that provides a lovely, quiet space for walking and reflection. There are sporadic benches located throughout the park. The scenery here is especially striking and beautiful with varied elevation and hills dotted with treetops nearby. This park provides areas of shade as well as a lot of space open to sunshine. read more

My dog LOVES this park. It's sized to allow her a good run without being overwhelming, and the other owners tend to be very friendly. I appreciate the benches scattered about and that there are water dishes all over the place (generally filled by owners bringing gallons of water). There's not a separate area for small dogs or puppies but our experience is that the majority of owners are responsible and don't bring aggressive dogs. That said, most of the pups here are "high energy" so if your hound is skittish or submissive, it may be less than thrilled. APOLOGY - my dog is very friendly but a MASSIVE barker. What's not to love about Currie. Other than it's a further out than my home dog park there is nothing bad I can say. It's massive and there's lots of room for my mutt to romp around. There is a wooded area and decent trail behind that he loves to get his run on around. I also have enjoyed an assortment of people and their dogs at this park that have been cool and so far I haven't had a crazy run in with a single one. Everyone has been caring and considerate of their dogs and the space itself. We usually come out on Saturday mornings while running errands. Ralphie knows exactly where were going and he enjoys every minute of getting his exercise on here. Every once in awhile i'll even run into some of the people from my home park Roverwest. Variety is the spice of life and Currie is a great park hands down! read more

I love coming to this park with my dogs. I was very happy to see how big it is. We have never had any bad experiences. Barry can get a bit overwhelmed if he has met too many dogs but many of the dog owners here are very understanding about different issues. The dog badge people come at peak times so if you don't have a tag for your dog, you will have to pay. I got my tags last year from the lady who was at the park for $35 for two dogs. Your dogs do have to be registered to MADACC so make sure that that registration is good to go first and then you can get the tags. I don't personally mind paying ($25 for 1 dog if you live in the MKE area, $10 for the second dog but prices go up if you don't have an MKE address) because it pays for the upkeep of the park. People do drop off old gallons of water to the dog park for people who forget and they provide free poop bags. Just know that there are only 2 entrances and trash and poop bags at either one so grab some before you venture further into the park if you didn't bring your own because it'll take you a while to get around to it. I do not recommend you bring your dog if they are not able to socialize. My dog was almost mauled once by a girl bringing her VERY aggressive German Shepherd that she kept the muzzle on. My dog is a passive dog and so he just went somewhere else and then GS left shortly after that. This is a huge park and there are 2 different wooded areas and a huge grassy area to run around in. It's quite lovely but if your dog isn't good at recall, just make sure you keep track of your dog as you don't want your dog and other dogs getting into a tuff without you present. read more

We love Currie dog park! It's our favorite fenced in park in the Milwaukee area. For those who don't know, Currie has two parks. A big park and a little park. The big park has two entrances on it. In warm weather, the lower entrance there is always: 1. Water jugs filled with water 2. Bowls 3. Tennis balls Organizations around Milwaukee donate to the park and they're supplies available to all of the park goers. The one gripe I have with the lower entrance is the picnic table sitting. lots of owners frequent and so they sit and converse, which is fantastic, but since it's the entrance and other dogs are coming in it feels like a lot for more timid dogs being approached by a herd of unsupervised dogs. The nice thing is, this park is HUGE, and you can grab a water jug and quickly head up the hill where it's far less crowded. This park is usually clean and owners are pretty good about picking up after their dogs. I've never stepped in anything, so there's that. One other nice thing that's important to note is hat you can walk around the perimeter of the fence, and up the hill, and there's a patch of trees for the dogs to walk in as well as a defined trail. It's just a big circle, super easy to navigate. We love this park read more

We love this dark park! We go to the small dog area vs big dog area, but they're actually 2 separate areas, not just a small area inside the larger one. It's a 1.5 acre fenced in area with water bowls all over. There is a huge hill which really wore my dogs out. It was nice seeing my dogs socializing with dogs their own size. I will warn that 2 large dogs came into the small dog area when we went. I was really confused at first, but saw the owners also had a chihuahua. This made me pretty nervous, as one of mine doesn't always react well with large dogs. He was fine, but he really may have caused a bad situation. Overall, totally suggest. read more

Ok updating my previous review. Since they expanded into a larger area, this gives the dogs more room to roam and it's not as bad as it had been in the past. Still dirtier (poop-wise) than other parks we visit. Also be warned - this is right off of capitol drive. Easy access in and out, not just for you but also for criminals who are scouring cars for valuables. Don't leave valuables in your vehicle. People do get their windows smashed, cars broken into and valuables stolen and depending on where you are in the park you may never see it happen and the perps will be gone before you know you were robbed. My advice - park on the road in the lower area where you have access to both the smaller and larger dog parks and your vehicle is highly visible to you and other members of the park. read more

Took our two dogs out here for the first time since moving to Milwaukee. You have to have an license to use the park-- it's very quick to do. Easy to complete in a day during business hours to get the licenses. ($25 annual, $5 extra for additional dog) This is a great park!!! This is probably the largest enclosed dog park I've ever been to and it's fairly well kept. There are two entrances to the large dog park (mixed for both large and small). There's an area for doggy poo bags, however it seems to empty out. Some people were kind enough to hang some extras for others to use. There are some scattered water bowls throughout the park, I'd recommend bringing some water to utilize the bowls. There's not an actual source. There's a wooded area, lots of hills. Benches to relax. Parking is parallel parking along the street. Really enjoyed this park and look forward to using again in the future! read more

"Ruff, ruff! Ruff, ruff, ruff!" I'll translate for you humans... This place rocks! Five stars! There I was, lounging around the house doing my usual... making the most of my dog bed. I thought this was gonna be just another plain old day at the house when all of a sudden they said it... 'Scout, wanna go to the dog park?' My humans could tell I was super excited to go play with friends because I started wagging not just my tail, but the entire back half of my body. And, I mean, if you've ever been to Currie Dog Park, you'd totally understand my excitement. At Currie, I get to free run for days! It's totally fenced, so I don't have to worry about cars and such. There's not only a huge open field, but also a wooded area I can go exploring in. And there's even a pretty cool trail so I can take my humans on a walk. There's usually a ton of friends of all different breeds for me to sniff and chase and be chased by. And, even most of the humans are really cool, as they're probably "dog people" being they're at a dog park. I usually get enough pets and rubs to keep my self-esteem high. I don't even get jealous when my humans get in on the action and pet my friends... I know that when I tell them I'm all tuckered out, they'll take me home... so I can get back to my dog bed. I love Currie. It seems unfair to me to rate a park based on the people who bring their animals and how they're controlled. While I agree I wouldn't bring my dog to a puppy-rave, this place is big enough that it's easy to simply take her to a different trail or area of the park . It is huge, the grounds are well maintained, and the poop bags never run out. Sure the construction sucks right now, but Porkchop always has a great time getting her sniffs in here. read more

This park is absolutely giant - so much so that my short-legged basset hound ran for a bit, covered just a small portion and was pooped within 10 minutes of arriving. I love that there's so much room - we can moved away from the pack if they get too loud or rowdy, or just go for an off-leash wander that let's her hound nose sniff to her content without me having to drag her on. There's almost always a good amount of other dogs here, meaning the pack forms, they run and bark and play and I get to just stand there and let her tire herself out - no work for me! I'm glad this is so close to the house and I'll like it even better when there's less construction between it and my house so that I don't get so annoyed with my hound when she gets tired in less time at the park than it took me to drive there! read more

Since it's springtime, the wee beasties and I have gotten antsy for some outside antics that don't involve leashes so we checked out Currie Dog Park last week. I thought we had good dog parks in California but I was so wrong! All I can say is WOW, this place is huge!! My two little ones kept almost getting away from me (I have a Min Pin mix & Chiweenie) between the large open spaces and the small wooded area that they were insisting on exploring. Since it was a weekday, the park wasn't too crowded but it looked like it was all large dogs...not that my girls mind, they actually sometimes prefer the big ones since they run faster! Trying to keep track of both of them on my own finally got a little too hard so I took them over to the smaller fenced area and let them have at it. I could keep an eye on them while getting some much needed vitamin D while perched on a bench. The same things that plague most dog parks were an issue at this one....some poop left behind by owners, and no source of water for the dogs. But I'm used to that and always look where I'm stepping and bring my own water. Two paws up from this pet family! read more

There are actually two dog areas that make up this park. One is smaller and a LOT quieter and the main one is huge with hills and wooded area (sometimes with a stupid squirrel running in the trees). The people are friendly and there are a lot of regulars. One walk around the edge of the park and my dog is done for the day. Nice addition is the set of benches made for an Eagle Scout project. I have seen the park rangers a couple of times checking permits!! Now to flip the coin to the other side! Sometimes the water bowls are few to be found (thieves I would guess). The usual BONEHEAD dog owners who can't seem to realize that if you don't pick it up, it'll most likely end up on the bottom of MY shoe. Only two trash cans inside the park -- really? There has been some B&E (that means 'car window smashy' for the not criminally-minded folk) issues with cars in the parking lot -- but that was a while ago. I can't speak about the smaller park except I usually see a dog or two in there and it seems like a much quieter place if you don't want to mingle or your pooch to mingle with others. read more

We had a wonderful day at the park. Our Sarge was pooped out and didn't want to move. Isn't that what we ALL want from a dog park? =) The dogs and humans were very nice. i love the fact that it's completely fenced in. Remember to bring lots of water. Clean, well maintained dog park. This park is HUGE with a wooded area, trail, and two separated fenced-in areas for your K9 to run, play, and sniff off-leashed. There is a scenic view of curry golf course, too. Park users are pretty good about picking up droppings, donating bags (MCPS supplies these as well), keeping water dishes full and accessible, and providing tennis balls! This park is nice. With the new expansion the size has increased at least 5x. I only once had a problem with another aggressive dog (back when the park was much smaller, my puppy couldn't defend himself yet). Since the park has been expanded there is much more space to move around if something like that happens. There are almost always others dogs here so my pup gets a good workout in just playing with them. Recommended! read more

I always bring my Sweet Dee to the park weather permitting, she loves it. Very friendly people and dogs there as well. Rarely encounter an issue, and when I do its usually mine resource guarding a stick she found. My dog Makena and I started going to the park this week; she's a 14 year old Siberian Husky who wasn't socialized with other dogs much when she was younger. I was a little nervous taking her, worried that she might be a cranky old lady, but she seemed to enjoy the wide open spaces! She wasn't sure what to do with the abundance of space and frisky canine playmates; she wandered around and seemed more interested in humans than dogs, but it was nice to be able to allow her to roam off leash. She seemed skeptical at first and rarely strayed from my side the first day, but our second time she was more interested in all of the action. We will definitely be going back! People are very friendly, as are most of the dogs. The park provides water bowls, but it's BYOW (bring your own water). There is lots of land to wander and a small wooded area for more adventurous pooches. Good sun to shade ratio, and plenty of benches throughout the park in the event that you want to rest while your pup plays! My only complaints are these: - Some dog owners are inattentive -- one dog mounted my dog twice and his owners were nowhere to be found. I tried to pull him off of her and eventually someone came and chased the 'humper' away. - Some people do not pick up after their dogs, so watch where you step! The park provides poop bags and trash receptacles so I'm not sure why people don't clean up after their pets! read more

Proof that the Milwaukee County Parks System is still capable of great things! I haven't been here in about five years, ever since our dog Daisy started to get lazy, which was also the year before they expanded CDP from about a football field sized "dog exercise area" to a full blown proper Dog Park. This place has everything a dog could want with the exception of a pond for swimming. We recently adopted a young super high energy GSD, and are looking for places for him to blow off some steam. We tried Granville dog park: Too muddy. We've been to the Airport dog park: Love it, but a bit of a drive. For whatever reason, we had avoided Currie until this weekend. I think we found our jam. Lots of wide-open spaces, lots of tables and benches, tons and tons of parking, a nice little wooded area, and herds and herd of dogs and dog lovers. I was impressed how well maintained Currie was, even at the end of October. Most importantly, it's the closest one to our house. Our Anders loved it, and I'm sure we'll be back time and time again. read more

I love love LOVE this park. It's spacious, well maintained, the people are generally wonderful. The park is fully fenced and has a good mix of wooded and open areas. If one dog is being naughty and throwing off the vibe, then there is plenty of room to simply go to another part of the park instead of having to leave all together. I am here 2-4 times a week, at least. My pupper loves it here and even has friends he recognizes and enjoys playing with. read more

This dog park is super convenient because it's literally around the corner from my house. That being said, it's pretty muddy and I feel like the safety of my dogs here is hit and miss. Sometimes the other dogs are under control and the owners are responsible. Sometimes someone brings their 5 dogs and can't control any of them. My bigger dogs can generally hold their own but I don't feel comfortable bringing my small dog here. read more

What a great place! We were in town from Chicago for the weekend and our friends took us to this amazing dog park one morning. Our 20 pound pup got to run like she never gets to in the city. They have separate spaces for small & large dogs if you're concerned. It's a beautiful plot of land with big green hills, long stretches of green space, and even a little wooded area with walking paths. The other dogs were great and the owners looked out for our pup when she vanished from our line of sight (she sniffed out some rabbit droppings but they shooed her away before she could eat any). Plus it's all fenced in so we had peace of mind that she couldn't run into surrounding traffic. There were plenty of water bowls (you have to bring your own water), left over tennis balls, and sticks to throw. It cost us $5 but it was worth it! Can't wait to go back! read more

This is a great, convenient place for our dog to get lots of exercise and socialization. The park is great, but you can't ever count on fellow dog parents to be top notch. Most that we have met are great and have a good handle on their dogs, keeping an eye on them while they play. Poop does not get picked up so watch where you walk. Some seem to like to bring special toys that will inevitably get stolen by other dogs -not the dog's fault. Don't bring them if they're special or going to cause a fight. There are always tennis balls laying around that are for all to play with. Last week there was a man walking around with a bag of food, like the pied piper, randomly stopping and dishing out food to the crowd of dogs gathered around him ... fights broke out and it was the dumbest dog park antic yet, and we have seen a lot. There are always bowls of water that get filled by kind dog parents so return the favor and bring a jug next time you visit. Do not bring valuables with you, as other reviewers have pointed out; vehicles have gotten broken into here. We have also had our annual tag checked at random times by a park "ranger" so be sure to have one. read more
