The large breed dog park is massive and beautiful.
    Melanie L.

The dog park is top notch, but some of the visitors can truly be dicks so heed this bit of advice please! (I use the large dog area) I started taking my dog here last June and he loves it, but we have a bit of a ritual. I keep him on leash until I am comfortable with the other dogs in the park. We enter slowly which is easy because of the super useful double gate system where only one can open at a time in both the exit and entrance. This prevents escapes. Then we will walk the perimeter of the park, maneuvering closer to other dogs as we encounter them. Once we have met most of the dogs and I feel comfortable with them I will allow my dog to run around freely and keep an eye on him. The unfortunate thing is that many people bring dogs here and just let them go free while they read a book or nap on a bench. I have even had people willingly bring aggressive dogs in to socialize, and have the nerve to get mad at me when I suggest they try a training class first to deal with the aggression. I'm not sorry that I'd like to NOT take my dog to the vet for a visit you won't pay for so I will not keep my mouth shut if you think something like that is ok. The other thing I dislike is that some owner turn a blind eye to their dogs pooping all over the park. There is no excuse to ignore this because the park provides a ton of stands with bins and poop bags. Myself and many others I see do bring their own bags but keep an eye out while walking to prevent stepping in a mess. Now that the negative is out of the way, seriously, this park is HUGE. There are some woody areas, hilly terrain, a flat "landing strip" that is mowed and great for catch or Frisbee. Benches all around for taking a break, bowls for general use - but bring your own water, and there are some restrooms for people as well, though primitive. The parks is stimulation overload at first, but my shy guy opened up after an hour or so, and then even more so as our visits became regular. Most of the visitors are very friendly and open and enjoy meeting and getting to know new dogs. I have a special few that I love to see myself. Often times toys get stolen by other dogs, as evidenced by about 50 tennis balls and others strewn around the park. Don't bring anything expensive as it may become a lost toy somewhere in the 10 or so acres. You will find it, at some point, well used and covered in dirt and slobber. Give this park a try. Your first visit will only be $4 per car - though visit the county parks website to verify that the cost has not increased. For me it was worth it enough to pay $28 for a year long pass. My dog loves it, I love it, and that is even in the face of the few negatives brought on by poor dog owners.

I've been here for cross-country skiing and mountain biking, but the park is also used for dog walking, soccer, sledding, snow-shoeing, geocaching and hiking. There are also picnic areas, which are great for hosting parties. The park requires a parking pass, which is either $25 or $30 a year, cannot remember. New mountain bike trails were built here and opened last year; they include a beginner route (about 1.5 mile loop from parking lot, into woods and through a valley) and a more advanced loop with berms and log crossings (not too technical). I love riding here and come at least a few times a month. I highly recommend checking it out!

What a sweet, little surprise this swimming hole was today! I, generally, avoid Waukesha because I feel I may never make it back. It confuses the hell out of me. But we gave it a go today because I just felt like swimming and wanted to bring the dogs, too. I'll tell you, my first choice was Fox Brook ( another small ish swimming place in the area ) but the beach was closed. I found Minooka and I'm glad I did. Lots of wonderful things are happening at this place: a fenced in dog park, hiking trails, fishing and swimming.. For $5 ? I'm in! The swimming pond startled me at first because it, well.. Looks like a pond. The water quality sign said it was all good, though. We took the dogs to a spot away from the beach ; I conquered my reoccurring phobia of stepping in squishy stuff and in we went. Frogs and fish moved out of our way. It's just a lovely place. The water was refreshing, not stinky and pretty deep close to shore ( no squishy! ) I would love to spend the day there and intend to soon.

Such a beautiful area for nature trails and pretty parks. We love going to the small breed dog park, our pup loves to romp and play with fur friends and their humans, we've not met anyone who isn't nice and friendly. Great area for our puppers to really run and socialize, Just don't forget water for you and your pups!

This is a huge park! I'm glad they decided to close off half of the park for the large dogs because it's that big! You can lose your dog if you are not diligent in watching them. People here are always friendly and care for their fur babies. They'll chat if you so chose otherwise you can use a corner to play fetch with your pet alone. Dogs play nicely here for the most part and there is almost always a "welcoming committee dog" waiting to greet you and your dogs at the gate. Don't bring any particularly special toys as they might get thefted during playtime. My dogs love this place and, lucky for me, it was only $30 or so to buy a pass to Waukesha County's parks for the year. Sweet deal!

Ask the Community - Minooka Park

My dog is still a pup, not familiar with eing off lead in large open areas, ànd I can't keep up with her. Are there any small fenced areas for newbies? She's a new rescue, from Houston, TX, so I don't know a lot about her.

Yes... awesome area for both large and small dogs. I always leash mine just in case..

He's snoring his head off right now after running around like a madman in the small stuff area with his new BFF Charlie the Corgi! He also had fun in the big dog area with Dozer who really wanted to play! It was nice to be around people who were attentive to their fur babies vs walking trails with headphones on ignoring dogs that run wild in wooded off leash parks. I recently had a bad encounter with dogs jumping on me and dashing at my smaller dog. He is my service dog because I have a neurological disorder that causes me to lose my balance and fall. It's really irritating when people let their big dogs dash, run, and jump throughout a park and they are nowhere near to correct the dog. In this park, that can't happen because the area is more of an exercise area. It's enclosed but large enough for the dogs to really have fun chasing, tumbling, and running. The large dog area has a few challenge obstacles inside but nothing to obstruct ball tossing or free play. Within the play area, there are no trees for sugar to hide and dash at the unsuspecting passersby. Every parent can't see his/her baby and hold them accountable for good behavior! Outside the enclosures, there are many trails for those who want 1:1 encounters with their fur babies and nature. I walked the trail first with my dog. We love walking along trails. I give him plenty of time to sniff everything and I let him direct the adventure. Then, we went to the fenced area for some socializing (a.k.a. play). He had a great time and so did I. There are signs up that indicate there are fees to use this park. I'm not sure if that's still the case. So check it out before you go. The gates were up and open when I arrived but if there's a fee, I would say it's well worth it! This park was clean and attractive. It would be a great place for families, couples, singles, disabled, and dogs!!! We felt centered and calm when we left and can't wait to visit again!

Stopped here to waste some time while Momma was at the mall. The park is your standard neighborhood park, but with some touches. The park loses a star as the playground has a mulch surface instead of rubber (mulch is sadly used at almost every Brookfield park). Both the little kid and big kid playgrounds have one slide, but they each have fun noise makers attached that I've never seen at any other park before. The playground includes four swings (two baby swings, and two big kid swings). There is a paved walking loop that starts by the playground, wraps around the baseball diamond, and past the basketball courts winding back to the playground. Note: Dogs are allowed on the loop! The park shelter is small but includes a handicap accessible table, and one surprisingly awesome feature, a storage bin that the neighborhood put together with sporting goods and toys for kids to play with while they are at the park. Chalk, frisbees, soccer ball, baseball bats, and more. Way cool!!! Surrounding the entire park is a lot of landscaping and trees, yet they are all fairly young and are not shade producing yet. One other note, there are no bathrooms or drinking fountain at the park. Parking is limited to a few spaces in a parking lot, and no street/grass parking is allowed. While this is not a park your kid will spend hours at, it is a perfect place to get out all of those wiggles from a morning of running errands.

I saw a car drive right into it and disappear and I saw a dog walker park out side of the entrance and walk in, I think you can drive in and explore it because the sign doesn't say no cars in the list of restrictions. I couldn't find this on Yelp so I added it because it looks cool and it's not that far from from Milwaukee for a close recreation wild life area. I didn't have enough time to explore it properly/fully but I would like to go back and check it out, the DNR web page lists birding, boating with restrictions, canoeing, cross country skiing, dog trial grounds, fishing, hiking, hunting with restrictions, snowmobiling trail, wild edibles and wildlife viewing so it sounds like an all around cool place. I have posted my pictures and some from the web site for more information. I never knew this cool wildlife area was so close and I just wanted to put it out there especially for the dog people who like to take the pooches on walks and want something a step up/different from the designated dog parks.

With our hotel at the nearby Residence Inn in Brookfield, Williams Mitchell park was within range and we headed over there around 8pm. We barely made it there just in time before the park closed it's gate to the public. Pro tip, you do want to arrive at the latest by the 7:00 pm hour to secure a spot because as mentioned by the time we arrived by 8:45, they were closing the park off. The parking spot we secured was the second to last lot in the vicinity. This park is large. In fact, it's over 400+ acres large and boasts a total of 5 public parking lots. Lots 1-3 were already at capacity so we were in lot 4 and we still had a 20 minute walk (each way) to get to the main lawn where everyone was to watch the show. Experienced park goers came equipped with wagons filled with tarps, collapsible chairs, picnic baskets, foldable tables, lighting and meals. Some even set up hours beforehand and set up tents. If these are your aims, you want to come much earlier than 7:00pm to secure a good spot and get your gear situated. The show was spectacular. It was at least 45 minutes in length and the displays were big and bold. I only wished they had accompanying music to go with the firework show. Perhaps a combination of classical, rock, and current pop hits to enhance the experience. Like I said, the park is big and even though we were there a half hour before the start of the show, we still managed to get a decent view of the fireworks. Another Pro tip is to bring bug spray. Seriously. You will need it here. I was unfortunate to not prepare for this and I left with double digit mosquito bites on both legs and feet. The mosquitoes really like me for some reason. Dealing with the aftermath was not fun considering all the itching that followed but despite this, it was worth it. Next year I plan to be armed with Deet and perhaps bathe myself in OFF spray.
