Butter Chicken, Garlic Naan, Goat Vindaloo
    Lindsay I.

I'm not a huge fan of Indian spices like cumin or curry but husband really enjoys so tonight we tried a new place. It's a plus that they are open till 10 which is later than some other Indian restaurant in our area. It's a casual restaurant and bar. The bar has a few seats at the bar and pickup counter. The tables are simple with a napkin dispenser. Seats are cushioned but with a metal back. When we arrived we approached the counter and were asked if we were dinning in. We were told to pick a table and the server brought us each a bottle of water. After ordering he brought us plates with silverware wrapped in a napkin. The restaurant is pretty bright with overhead fluorescent lights but they tried to soften them with decorative panels which adds to the overall look of the place. We also had a masala tea which is served hot in a small styrofoam cup and it was creamy and delicious. Our food arrived quickly. My husband had the goat vindaloo which is tomato based and has potatoes. He got it medium spice. It was served with basmati rice. The rice and entree are served in different bowls so you can decide how much you want. I had butter chicken that also came with basmati rice and I got it mild spiced. It was really good. We share a garlic naan and then I had a rice pudding for dessert. Those were also delicious. The servings were just the right size and I took half of mine home. They had small plastic bowls with lids for my saucy food and desert and styrofoam containers for the naan and rice. Overall dinner was very reasonably priced, great flavors, clean, quiet, good atmosphere, friendly service and about $56 before tip. This place definitely makes me want to come back and try something else. I'd definitely recommend. They also had a good amount of takeout orders so you can grab something while in Yorktown near Parks Orthodontics.

I went to their grand opening event and highly enjoyed the food I ate at their complimentary buffet and the food I took home! First off food: Chicken tikka masala- good flavor Butter Chicken- my favorite dish and even for mild spice had a little kick. Garlic Naan-.good flavor and the right amount of garlic Rice-nice and fluffy Mango lassi- yummy Honey donuts-very good! Paroka-very good Vegetable curry- this was good, not my favorite but I tried it bc it was on the free buffet. Service: Everyone was very kind and made sure we had everything we needed and that the food was good, which it was. Ambiance: It's not overly large inside with about 10 tables.

Noticed this new spot on my way to work and finally checked it out with one of my friends! We were immediately greeted and felt welcomed coming in. Love the immersion of the culture with the framed photos and music videos playing on the tv. We were offered free tea to start and I ordered the butter chicken medium spicy and a side of garlic naan of course. My friend ordered the tikka masala and we ended up ordering more naan! Will be back to try other dishes!

Small portions ......this was $20 ......AAGO DEFINITELY GIVES YOU MORE

super small portions and charging $20 is insane , but hey may work for others just not for me , aago on warwick in newport news gives double this for the same price . and when i mentioned it he offered me more rice like thats what i need with the .3 marsala youve given me . small spot but nice environment just not the right place for food portions and again aago on warwick is the place to go for indian in newport news !

    Raita - kinda watery

Lamb Korma - so hella salty I couldn't handle it. Since it was my first time here, I didn't want to return the food, so I kept it and will tone it down at home. I did let the waiter know though how salty it was. Biryani Rice - good, fluffy, flavorful Chicken in Rice - not cubed meat, but whole pieces ( good but unexpected, believe it was thigh and breast ) Dosa - maybe it's a personal preference but I would have loved to see it not flattened like it was ( taste overall was good, though ) Coming from eating at Indian hawker centres in Singapore daily, this place was okay and the imagery on the website didn't depict what the restaurant actually looked like. Still a nice nook and nice to enjoy crane cafe after though to end a meal well. Forgot to note they did provide small taster cups of chai complimentary.

During our visits here, we've hardly had any issues with meals we ordered. Shall we get into the details? Foot traffic was minimal when we arrived and were seated immediately. We were served water and their homemade chai tea. The vibe was welcoming with soft music playing in the background. After a few minutes, we were ready to order. I selected their chicken schezwan hakka noodle dish along with garlic naan bread to share with Sophia. The noodle dish was very good. I chose the mild spice and it was just right. There was so much served it took me three meals to finish the whole plate. Unfortunately, the garlic naan was underwhelming. When we received the order, it was hard to chew and the garlic taste wasn't strong. Usually, naan is soft when served, but not this time. Despite the naan disappointment, both of us walked away full. A dish like this I could order again the next time we stop by. Till next time :)

Our waiter grabbed us each a bottle of water, and we also received a complementary cup of mint tea. Very good! Food wise we ordered the onion paroka, samosa, garlic naan, and butter chicken. All the food was fresh and plentiful. I loved the onion paroka and the batter was nice and light. The garlic naan was some of the best I have had, and the butter chicken had a great flavor! Service was excellent and the restaurant is not overly large, but it has sone nice decor inside. Can't wait to go back for amazing Indian food!

Everything was fresh and tasted amazing. I had the mulligatawny soup, samosa chaat and shrimp korma. My eyes were bigger than my stomach and I ended up boxing a good amount of food up for later. The portions were big and the food was very tasty. The samosa chaat was my favorite. I also got a mango lassi to help cool the burn (no burn because I got it mild). I would recommend this place to anyone who likes authentic Indian food. It's tucked away in a shopping plaza with a Sam's Club & Wallyworld near by. It's cute and cozy and the service is friendly. What are you waiting for?! GO!

A Sensory Delight at Monsoon Eclectic Modern Indian Restaurant…read more My close girlfriend and I finally made it to Monsoon Eclectic Modern Indian Restaurant for lunch on June 29, 2025--a visit we had been planning for about a month. We were looking for something quiet, tasteful, peaceful, and of course, delicious. This place did not disappoint. Although the restaurant is currently undergoing renovations (you have to enter through a side door instead of the front), the moment we stepped inside, we were warmly greeted and promptly seated. The service was outstanding from the beginning: water was poured, menus were handed out, and we were given time to settle in and decide. We started with the variety of chutneys appetizer, which came with five or six types of chutney paired with garlic naan. There was a mango chutney, a lemony citrus one, a green chutney, a deep red pickled chutney (which was my favorite), and a dark tamarind-like chutney, along with a cool cucumber yogurt sauce. The chutneys were flavorful and the naan was perfectly warm and chewy. My girlfriend ordered from the lunch menu, choosing the lamb tikka masala, which came with basmati rice, garlic naan, and her choice of soup or salad--she chose the soup. She also enjoyed a glass of wine. She rated her meal 10 out of 10, saying the lamb was tender, juicy, and absolutely delicious. I usually order butter chicken (my all-time favorite), but this time I stepped out of my comfort zone and went with a seafood stir fry dish--and I'm so glad I did. It featured salmon, crab meat, jumbo shrimp, and moist scallops, all seasoned with nuts, spices, and served over basmati rice. The colors were vibrant, the aroma was heavenly, and the taste was next level. Every bite had my taste buds doing backflips. I had plenty of leftovers--enough for two or three more meals. The waiter who recommended the dish was extremely helpful and encouraging--I'm thankful for that push! All of the staff were kind, polite, knowledgeable, and attentive. Even though they're renovating, you can already see that the decor is top tier. The flooring alone was mesmerizing before the remodel, so I can only imagine how stunning it'll be when it's complete. It's a great spot for any occasion--a quiet lunch, a dinner date, a birthday party, or even a business meeting. I've been to many Indian restaurants in the Hampton Roads area and beyond, and this one is easily among the best. Monsoon truly lives up to its name--eclectic, modern, and unforgettable. If you're a fan of Indian cuisine or just looking to try something new, do yourself a favor and come here. You won't be disappointed. If I could rate it higher than a 10, I would. This place gets a 100 from me.

Warm…read moregreeting at the door, comfortable seating, eye-poppingly bright décor against a dark background (also known as a 'wall,' or wallpaper, ha ha!) so it really stands out even more. The service was great, the food was delicious, the experience exalting. End result: relaxed, refreshed, ready to move on having been greatly nourished .... It was also fun to try some new things I had never had or seen before! That's always an added bonus when it happens -- and here, it did! I'd never seen 'Masala Papad' before, so of course I had to get it! It did not disappoint! I'd imagined the papadam being as they usually are -- flat -- and then in this dish that it would have some toppings on it, looking like a flat taco or a small pizza, but oh was I gladly wrong! Wow! Only thing is, I might be ruining this for someone else by taking away the joyous surprise! However, I understand that most people don't like a surprise as much as I do, so I guess it's okay to give it away. Anyway, these were super-flavourful and fun. I got the 'three' spice level. That's a wonderful aspect of dining here -- you get to choose your spice level, dish by dish. For the hot and sour soup, I got a 'two' spice level -- however I found it to be spicier than the two of the Masala Papad, and I'm guessing that's because, well, it's soup and so there is more of it closer together, rather than the air between pieces of various foods in the Masala Papad, and also the thermal heat of the soup probably elevates the feeling of spiciness. Another dish I had never tried was the Chilly Tofu. It was absolutely, spectacularly delicious not only in taste but the wonderful texture. In fact, I was so amazed by how good the texture was that in describing my delight, the waiter wondered if I had ever tried tofu before. I'd had tofu many, many times in my life in a large number of settings and so many different variations -- such as soft, pan-fried, deep-fried, in soup, skewered on a stick, served with all kinds of things -- but this particular tofu was just extra super-duper scrumdiddlyumptious! The three appetizers I ate filled me up enough that I didn't need anything else -- well, except chai, that is! -- so I didn't order an entrée, and will have to leave that for next time .... Might I add, it is an oasis from the heat and anything else going on outside ... and the dishes and drinks served here will also give your body more heat-fighting ability because that is the nature of Indian food! It's healthy! Not just nutritious but literally body-building -- including giving your immune system just what it needs .... Definitely, absolutely, certainly most highly recommended!

To be fair though, India and Williamsburg were both British colonies. Having said that, this particular Indian restaurant has a Goan-influenced menu, which is actually the historically Portuguese part of India. There is a lot worth trying. It was a pleasant setting with indoor and outdoor tables; given the rain and wind I sat inside even though the outdoor tables were covered. Spoiled for choice, I got a fairly straightforward lentil soup to start before ordering a more adventurous dish of tofu and mushrooms in an onion-heavy curry. They offered the option to order okra as a side dish, which I don't usually see but jumped at the chance to do. An aloo paratha on the side was quite filling and good for mopping up the curry. Salt was a bit excessive, particularly with the bread I think. The actual amount of tofu in my curry could have been more, but the flavors were abundant. My chai arrived unsweetened and with options to sweeten it myself, which I deferred on. A lot of people got takeout, but for a place to eat in and get a high quality and regionally distinctive meal, this place fit the bill.

When you enter, you order at the counter. If you are dining in, you choose where you'd like to sit, and your food is brought out on trays. We got the Chicken Biryani and the Chicken Curry and garlic naan. We asked for it to be VERY mild. The flavor was all very good but I would not call it mild lol that's probably my only complaint - it was a little too spicy for me. I have been to other Indian places that offer American mild, medium, hot AND indian mild, medium, hot. I think they realize that they are able to tolerate a lot more spice! I would say my meal was probably "Indian" mild. I realize spice is subjective, and I am a wimp! They offer a variety of different drinks in their cooler and they have a filtered water station. They do not offer ice at all. Our food came out very fast but was still PIPING hot and fresh! The customer service was excellent. The gentlemen at the counter was extremely nice! During our meal one of the women from the kitchen came out to use the restroom but stopped to ask us how our meal was and to let them know if we needed anything. Very sweet people!
