My first thought was that one comes to Williamsburg expecting like a vegetable pastie or gingerbread or something, not Indian food. To be fair though, India and Williamsburg were both British colonies. Having said that, this particular Indian restaurant has a Goan-influenced menu, which is actually the historically Portuguese part of India. There is a lot worth trying. It was a pleasant setting with indoor and outdoor tables; given the rain and wind I sat inside even though the outdoor tables were covered. Spoiled for choice, I got a fairly straightforward lentil soup to start before ordering a more adventurous dish of tofu and mushrooms in an onion-heavy curry. They offered the option to order okra as a side dish, which I don't usually see but jumped at the chance to do. An aloo paratha on the side was quite filling and good for mopping up the curry. Salt was a bit excessive, particularly with the bread I think. The actual amount of tofu in my curry could have been more, but the flavors were abundant. My chai arrived unsweetened and with options to sweeten it myself, which I deferred on. A lot of people got takeout, but for a place to eat in and get a high quality and regionally distinctive meal, this place fit the bill. read more

The food quality at this establishment has gone downhill. Not sure if they had a chef change, but was very disappointed with the flavors of the butter chicken and the makhni paneer. No flavor at all and will not be back because of that. Service is still very good and friendly. It is beautiful inside with a great vibe! Marsala Craft is a true Williamsburg treasure. As someone who has dined here multiple times, I can confidently say the restaurant remains consistently excellent. The atmosphere is lovely, the service is friendly and attentive, and the food is simply outstanding. For those not familiar with Indian cuisine, the staff is great at explaining the menu and making recommendations. For those who love Indian food, you can rest assured they do things right here. Everything is fresh and can be made as spicy as you like. We've loved every dish, from the lassi and the chaat of the day to the main courses. As a starter, I highly recommend the Assorted Vegetable Sampler and the garlic is always a must-have, it's absolutely excellent. For the main course, you can't go wrong with the Tandoori Chicken Tikka and Cauliflower Mushroom Steak. Both are very delicious and made as spicy as you can handle. The portions are generous, so you'll definitely have leftovers to enjoy later. The combination of amazing food, an excellent wine list, and a wonderful atmosphere makes Marsala Craft the best Indian restaurant in Williamsburg. We love India food. Greeted right away and it looked really busy . We were seated in 5 mintues. Tables were really close together and I am usually not a fan of that but the people at the adjoining table were so nice. Inside is really an upscale restaurant so it was a wonderful experience. Excellent by the way but there were 3 of us and we only got 2. Crisp and flavorful. Tikka Masala-great flavor, perfect amount of sauce to chicken ratio. Everything was steaming hot. My favorite. I got a 3 heat and it was perfect. Vindloo-great flavor, I had never had this before and I have to say I will be getting again and again. Got a 4 heat level and at first it is perfect but as you continue to eat it feels like it gets hotter. But still super yummy The Naan Bread was very fresh and I always get the garlic. It was so great I ordered more. I have to say I ate too much . It was wonderful. Chennai style Chicken Curry-excellent flavors. Got the 3 heat and that was perfect for us. The appetizers were delicious. I wasn't able to capture photos of the appetizers, but my favorite was the fried cauliflower dish. As for the meal, this is where the service went wrong for me. My meal said that it included rice. Everyone else at the table was served a gigantic bowl of rice and when I told the server I didn't receive my bowl of rice for the curry, he was rude and embarrassed me in front of my table and other guests and said I could share rice with others at my table. It's cold and flu season so I don't feel comfortable sharing food. Needless to say, when I was later offered rice by the server I denied it because at this point I'm annoyed and he had already made me feel embarrassed in front of the people I was with. I ended up eating my curry with no rice. It wasn't good enough curry for me to enjoy it without rice to be completely honest. There is no reason a restaurant like this should have individual meals that promise rice as a side and then serve rice "family-style". I put family style in quotations as normally this dining style would include one meal being selected for the whole table to pass around and share. As for the flavor of the curry, I wasn't impressed. Overall, my experience yesterday at Masala Craft wasn't great. I'm hoping this was just an off experience. read more

I am pleased to say that they not only offer standard Indian restaurant fare such as Butter Chicken and Chicken Tikka, but also dishes I have never seen on other Indian restaurant menus. One that comes to mind is the Crab Masala - this is my favorite dish that Masala Craft offers. Why not start with chatpati lasuna ghobi--fried cauliflower in a soy tomato glaze. On a Thursday night, there was a line at the door, and they don't take reservations. Parking is fine and picking up was quick and easy. O ly took about 20 mins to order ahead and it was packed and ready when I arrived. We have come to love the fried cauliflower in a tasty sauce. I chose a seafood medley, another at the table order a chicken dish, and the third a scallop dish. One can choose how spicy the entree is. Too often I hear "we didn't think you'd eat it that way, so we made it milder-just add hot sauce. That completely changes the flavor. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place before. I come here at least once per month. There are only two Indian restaurants worth going to in Williamsburg and this is one of them. I love the atmosphere here it's very modern, clean, and ethnic. Many of the staff are family which makes it feel very quaint. I love their cocktail list! They have the old favorites and then some with an Indian twist! Try bring the smoke. The wine list is ok, I do wish there were some Italian wines on the red list though. Service, ambience, and cleanliness are all out of the park. The menu really is amazing. I had the lamb bites and padad with mint chutney for appetizers and they didn't disappoint. My favorite dish here is the saag, but other main courses I've tried have been spectacular as well. There is however one dish that I get no matter what when I come here, the fermented Indian vegetables. I have never heard nor experienced this before this restaurant. It's a citrus/tangy/slightly pungent side dish. It goes amazing with any curry. I like to put a little on my spoon with the saag each bite. When visiting Williamsburg and you want something intimate with fine dining this is your place. read more

This new restaurant offers by far the best Indian food in Williamsburg: it is on par with restaurants in larger, more diverse communities. The house salad may be my new favorite food. Five stars for this relative newcomer to the Williamsburg scene. Fantastic food, service, and a modern setting to boot. I've visited Masala Craft twice, once for a lunch date and once for a family dinner. Both were excellent! I highly recommend the cauliflower appetizer, the spinach entree (apologies for not having the proper menu names), and the donut dessert. The salads, rice, and naan are great too! The more mainstream dishes such as the tika masala and vegetarian goan are very good as well. You can't go wrong.
