    Strawberry lassi
    Damien J.

Sophia and I had lunch here at this restaurant which serves Indian and Nepalese food. We've been here twice before which is honestly a shame. The past meals we've had here have been really good and friends of ours enjoyed their selections as well. This time it was just us. Would the third time bring great vibes like before? It was barely packed with people when we walked inside which was totally fine with us. We were seated immediately after walking in. The decor was spotless from the bar to the tables. Within minutes, we were ready to order. My selection was the half order of tandoori chicken at Level 2 spice flavor with garlic naan bread for the both of us and Strawberry lassi for the beverage. (Sophia had the chicken saag dish with Mango lassi.) Everything was truly delicious and well done. Both of us are fans of Indian food and neither one walked away disappointed. I'm a fan of tandoori chicken so this had to be chosen. There was enough rice, sauce and veggie mix to have yours truly full. The naan bread....say no more. The Strawberry lassi wasn't too sweet and full of flavor. Sophia enjoyed her dish as well. There was plenty to take with us for leftovers. A great afternoon for the both of us to have lunch. Like I said, we need to come here more often. If you're in the need for very good cuisine, do stop by :)

It was only my husband and myself: hard-to-please foodies. When the waitress tried to place us in the smallest table, I refused. I pointed at the 4 seaters table, the waitress objected my request. I insisted to sit in a bigger table (4 seaters). She objected again. By this time I was ready to tell my husband to fuck this and let's go to a different restaurant. There is no way our food will fit in this table. We don't just order 1-2 dishes. I was very unhappy, more like upset at this point. It's not like the restaurant is full and there was a line to get tables. I wouldn't insist if that's the case. As I was contemplating hard to just get up and leave, I thought I would try ONE MORE TIME. This time I asked with a cold expression. The short plump waitress asked her boss and we got the 4 seater table. Finally! This immediately gave a bad taste in my mouth. Sure enough, she retaliated by giving me stink eyes the entire time we were dining there. I just responded with the same cold expression. Don't they know customer is king??? The heck! If we are one of those couples who each person order 1 dish and stuff our face with 2 varieties of dish only, she can sit us in the tiniest table. Again, the restaurant was half empty. Overall Rating: 4.5 but since I can't select 0.5 and the short plump curly haired waitress gave me the long face and the stink eye for the entire time dining , I give 4 as the overall rating. Individual Rating: 1. Veg Samosa: 4 Pretty tasty! However I am not a fan of a mushy filling. The mint and tamarind chutney are delicious! 2. Chili MoMo: 5 spicy level 4 I decided to try the Nepalese dumplings. Oh my my! While the fillings taste just good, the chili sauce smeared the dumplings was beyond delicious. The spicy level 4 is perfect for us. 3. Garlic Naan: 5 I guess it's not hard to make delicious garlic naans. Yet some restaurants manage to fuck it up. Not this one! We love them. 4. Chicken Vindaloo: 3.5 spicy level 5 Now the spicy level 5 for this one is not as spicy as I thought especially after tasting Chili MoMo at level 4. I was worried for nothing. The taste of the vindaloo is a bit too sour and not as balanced as some other Indian restaurants I had before, or when I was in India for work. Still good but not great. 5. Goan Fish Curry: 5 spicy level 4 Hum... I must say this is my most favorite one. First time trying a Goan dish and I do love this one! They used salmon. I bet if they use king fish or other Asian fish the taste would be even more amazing. 6. Bindhi Masala: 5 spicy level 3 Yum! I am Not a huge okra fan but I do love this dish!

Pretty delicious Indian and Nepal food in Newport News. I got a bunch of momos in my appetizer! I got the chicken one. Really love that sauce! I went with the Okra because I haven't had okra in a while. I got it nice and mild. It was actually a pretty large portion to go along with the rice. I'll be honest, that was some of the best naan I've ever had! It was super buttery! I'm really complimented the Okra dish. I intentionally over ordered so I could take leftovers. It also comes with a free bottle of water. Really generous portions. They take credit card and you can pay at the table, which I like! Good place for kids.

I still love coming here! I do miss the lunch buffet but luckily I have a favorite dish that I can always go to: butter chicken. I had mild, of course, and my husband had Aago biryani that was slightly spicy. Garlic naan is a must. Only thing I skipped this time was my other fave: mango lassi. 5 STARS! Service was decent and food was amazing!

I have mixed feelings on this restaurant but would return. The location is super convenient when attending an event at the Ferguson Center. Pros: Good flavor Nice presentation Friendly service Fast service Tables spaced nicely Cons: Lots of sauce minimal protein Outside of the restaurant's control is the 13.5% tax.

Vegetable appetizer-spinach fritters a little over-fried and no sauce

This is more between a 3 to 3.5. Service: It was a busy Saturday night right at prime dinner time at 6pm. Had quite a few tables seated as well as they seemed to do a lot of takeout. I wish our waitress had expressed to us that it would be a wait as they were busy. I think a little explanation goes a long way! My husband did order a beer and didn't get it till 15 minutes after ordering it and asking our waitress. Food wise: The fried vegetable appetizer was okay. The spinach fritters were a little over fried. Also did not come with a sauce. Had to ask for the two sauces that came with the free crackers at the beginning of the meal (which were delicious!) to go with the appetizer. Chicken-makhani (butter chicken) not very flavorful! This is my go to dish at any Indian restaurant and the flavor was lacking. Sad. Garlic naan was good as well as the rice was nice and fluffy.

The servers were nice and checked in frequently. Felt a little out of place in this restaurant...the man at the table next to me kept staring at me throughout the meal which made me pretty uncomfortable. I don't fault the restaurant for this. -Free thin lentil crackers (papadam) with 3 "dips." Liked all 3 dips it came with. -Meat samosas - strong lamb flavor, would prefer vegetable next time. TONS of filling, great dough, wonderful samosa. -Chicken makhani (butter chicken) - spice level 2 (perfect), absolutely delicious and not really spicy. Piping hot and ended up splitting into two meals. -Chicken hyderabadi - spice level 3 (good heat, a bit much for me who is bad with spice), star anise flavor, delicious but I didn't like the flavor as much as the makhanj -Basmati rice delicious and free to refill -Garlic naan - fresh, great scent and good garlic flavor -Mango lassi thick and sweet a bit rich -Strawberry lassi was more refreshing, tasted a lot of yogurt flavor The leftover dishes were even better at home. All in all, delicious meal and quite affordable! Just don't know if I'll be back to dine in.

I haven't been here in a while and some things have changed since then. They no longer offer the thali platters. I saw a buffet set up but there were no dishes there on a Saturday lunch hour. The menu seems larger than before, so that's a plus. Some things were really good and others were just ok. The wait staff was lackluster. The one waiter had all the tables and did host work. But, he wrote the order down and we were still missing an item. Luckily it wasn't one which takes long to make. The chili momos were really good. I like the red sauce, it reminded me of the Manchurian sauce. The inside of the momos was all veggies and delicious. my friend got the lentil soup and raved about it. I tried it and it was nice, great lentil flavors and it was blended super smooth. My friend got the paneer Tikka masala. It was straight up cream sauce and cheese, haha. I can't have dairy anymore but I tried a taste and didn't like it. But I think I just no longer have the taste for it. I tried a dish I hadn't tried before, the jafrezi. They made this for me without dairy in the sauce, it ended up tasting ok, but I won't be getting this again. There seemed to be too many onions and not enough sauce. They forgot the roti, but quickly made it after I told the waiter it was missing. A couple items between our table and the one next to ours were mis-delivered. Nothing we couldn't send back over to the other table and vice versa. Once is a mistake, but this happened with 3 items. I don't mind wait staff that's not super friendly, I get it. Being cheerful and small talk all day is exhausting. But the service just wasn't that great, with mistakes and long waits. Maybe because of the waiter, maybe because they had too many other tables. I'll miss the variety on the thali platters, it's one of my favorite things to order at Indian restaurants. So if I'm in the area, I will hit up Aago again, maybe it'll be a better day for staff and I'll pick something I like better on the menu

During our visits here, we've hardly had any issues with meals we ordered. Shall we get into the details? Foot traffic was minimal when we arrived and were seated immediately. We were served water and their homemade chai tea. The vibe was welcoming with soft music playing in the background. After a few minutes, we were ready to order. I selected their chicken schezwan hakka noodle dish along with garlic naan bread to share with Sophia. The noodle dish was very good. I chose the mild spice and it was just right. There was so much served it took me three meals to finish the whole plate. Unfortunately, the garlic naan was underwhelming. When we received the order, it was hard to chew and the garlic taste wasn't strong. Usually, naan is soft when served, but not this time. Despite the naan disappointment, both of us walked away full. A dish like this I could order again the next time we stop by. Till next time :)

Everything was fresh and tasted amazing. I had the mulligatawny soup, samosa chaat and shrimp korma. My eyes were bigger than my stomach and I ended up boxing a good amount of food up for later. The portions were big and the food was very tasty. The samosa chaat was my favorite. I also got a mango lassi to help cool the burn (no burn because I got it mild). I would recommend this place to anyone who likes authentic Indian food. It's tucked away in a shopping plaza with a Sam's Club & Wallyworld near by. It's cute and cozy and the service is friendly. A Sensory Delight at Monsoon Eclectic Modern Indian Restaurant…read more My close girlfriend and I finally made it to Monsoon Eclectic Modern Indian Restaurant for lunch on June 29, 2025--a visit we had been planning for about a month. We were looking for something quiet, tasteful, peaceful, and of course, delicious. This place did not disappoint. Although the restaurant is currently undergoing renovations (you have to enter through a side door instead of the front), the moment we stepped inside, we were warmly greeted and promptly seated. The service was outstanding from the beginning: water was poured, menus were handed out, and we were given time to settle in and decide. We started with the variety of chutneys appetizer, which came with five or six types of chutney paired with garlic naan. There was a mango chutney, a lemony citrus one, a green chutney, a deep red pickled chutney (which was my favorite), and a dark tamarind-like chutney, along with a cool cucumber yogurt sauce. The chutneys were flavorful and the naan was perfectly warm and chewy. My girlfriend ordered from the lunch menu, choosing the lamb tikka masala, which came with basmati rice, garlic naan, and her choice of soup or salad--she chose the soup. She also enjoyed a glass of wine. She rated her meal 10 out of 10, saying the lamb was tender, juicy, and absolutely delicious. I usually order butter chicken (my all-time favorite), but this time I stepped out of my comfort zone and went with a seafood stir fry dish--and I'm so glad I did. It featured salmon, crab meat, jumbo shrimp, and moist scallops, all seasoned with nuts, spices, and served over basmati rice. The colors were vibrant, the aroma was heavenly, and the taste was next level. Every bite had my taste buds doing backflips. I had plenty of leftovers--enough for two or three more meals. The waiter who recommended the dish was extremely helpful and encouraging--I'm thankful for that push! All of the staff were kind, polite, knowledgeable, and attentive. Even though they're renovating, you can already see that the decor is top tier. The flooring alone was mesmerizing before the remodel, so I can only imagine how stunning it'll be when it's complete. It's a great spot for any occasion--a quiet lunch, a dinner date, a birthday party, or even a business meeting. I've been to many Indian restaurants in the Hampton Roads area and beyond, and this one is easily among the best. Monsoon truly lives up to its name--eclectic, modern, and unforgettable. If you're a fan of Indian cuisine or just looking to try something new, do yourself a favor and come here. You won't be disappointed. If I could rate it higher than a 10, I would. This place gets a 100 from me.

When you enter, you order at the counter. If you are dining in, you choose where you'd like to sit, and your food is brought out on trays. They do use paper plates and plastic utensils, but again, it is fast-casual. They have a vegetarian side of the menu and then a side with meat. The only meat they offer is chicken. We got the Chicken Biryani and the Chicken Curry and garlic naan. We asked for it to be VERY mild. The flavor was all very good but I would not call it mild lol that's probably my only complaint - it was a little too spicy for me. I have been to other Indian places that offer American mild, medium, hot AND indian mild, medium, hot. I think they realize that they are able to tolerate a lot more spice! I would say my meal was probably "Indian" mild. I realize spice is subjective, and I am a wimp! They offer a variety of different drinks in their cooler and they have a filtered water station. They do not offer ice at all. Our food came out very fast but was still PIPING hot and fresh! The customer service was excellent. The gentlemen at the counter was extremely nice! To be fair though, India and Williamsburg were both British colonies. Having said that, this particular Indian restaurant has a Goan-influenced menu, which is actually the historically Portuguese part of India. There is a lot worth trying. It was a pleasant setting with indoor and outdoor tables; given the rain and wind I sat inside even though the outdoor tables were covered. Spoiled for choice, I got a fairly straightforward lentil soup to start before ordering a more adventurous dish of tofu and mushrooms in an onion-heavy curry. They offered the option to order okra as a side dish, which I don't usually see but jumped at the chance to do. An aloo paratha on the side was quite filling and good for mopping up the curry. Salt was a bit excessive, particularly with the bread I think. The actual amount of tofu in my curry could have been more, but the flavors were abundant. My chai arrived unsweetened and with options to sweeten it myself, which I deferred on. A lot of people got takeout, but for a place to eat in and get a high quality and regionally distinctive meal, this place fit the bill.
