My experience was that Cushion Works is competent and efficient but they are honorable. Gary could have done the job, charged $650, but he didn't let money drive the encounter. I have a very old couch and the foam cushions were shot. I would sink in so deep I could barely lift myself out. I made an appointment and brought a cushion in. Susan explained the options and let me take a sample home to try on the couch, just to be sure it was exactly what I wanted. The work took about 10 days, which seemed like a long time, but I'm 100% happy with the result. I checked the online options and the cost would have been about the same, but with CW they do the measuring and fitting, so I knew it would be done properly. The fit was tight, and it's apparently more difficult than it would seem to get the new foam cushions into the covers, but they got everything in nice and snug. The result is exactly what I wanted, at a reasonable cost. Don't be put off by the need to make an appointment. It's a small business and each project takes time, so it makes sense to work by appointment rather than keep customers waiting. Parking was no problem. read more

My pottery barn cushions had seen better days. 20 years Before four individual knee surgeries and grandma broken foot sleeping on top of the couch turned the padding into quicksand. One could even feel the pull out bed springs through the cushion when people sat down! It was either new couch or rehab the cushions. although my experience is that Gary's work is very good I would warn anyone doing business with him that he can often be very snarky, condescending and frankly disrespectful in his words and tone.I had reasonable questions when I picked up my item addressing issues that Gary had brought up when I initially met with him.He responded in a tone that left me feeling it was not a good idea to ask him anything.I was shocked because I had been very complimentary of his work towards him i worked as a psychiatric nurse and am used to such behavior from pts in pain but not when I am doing a transaction with someone. They make it easy on ya! I went in to have a cushion replaced and a small hole repaired. I got my cushion replaced and a hole repaired. I also got a brief education on cushions. Gary was kind in that he didn't repair the hole but referred me to a nearby cleaner who could do the job. He also offered to pickup the repair so I wouldn't have to make two trips -- that really saved me a big hassle. Best of all, everything took a week as promised. I was referred to Cushion Works by 17th st upholstery to make new foam for my cb2 daybed which I really like but after 8 years it's lost a lot of firmness. I went with most firm. ILD 70. Most people don't like it that firm but I do! There's almost no sag. It's like a restored classic with new engine. Much better new product. Very happy about the quality service and speed. About 1.5 weeks from order to pickup. Lastly I got a discount cause of Covid restrictions not allowing measuring or fitting the lining. No big deal if you can do yourself. read more

I just pick up that one cushion that I dropped off to them last week. Looking at it now they've done pretty good job. All the edges were nicely define. Heck I had the sofa about 30 years and I don't even remember how those cushions suppose to look like anymore. I'm very glad I didn't sell or throw my sofas. I just dropped off 2 more cushions to them. I still have a smaller sofa with 2 more cushions to repair. I'm very excited because it's almost like having new sofas again without buying them all over again. If I could find them new, it would cost many thousands due to the workmanship going in to it. I don't see new furnitures are as well made any more. If you have very nice sofas like I do, I recommend just save your money and get them fixed instead of buying new low quality sofas. read more

I had one sofa cushion that was so flat it was like no cushion at all. Found cushion works on Yelp and went down to see if they could help, got there and was told that I should have called and make an appointment but he offered to see me anyway. I was so thankful. He told me he could fix the cushion with a new insert. I was shown three sample foam inserts and picked the one I liked best. He took measurements and told me what it would cost. Told me it would take a max of 2 weeks but I got the new cushion within a week. Went back with the old cushion, he made the exchange and the new cushion makes the sofa look like new. They do a wonderful job fitting your cushions with custom and fresh foam. It saved us from having to order a brand new couch which would have taken forever to get made during the pandemic shortages and saved us tons of money. We have an old, beautiful sofa that over time, had developed a flat and uncomfortable seat cushion. We did not want to contribute to more land fill so we sought an environmentally appropriate solution; we discovered Cushion Works, and the very helpful, Susan. Susan offered us two different price options for restuffing the seat and talked us through the process. Once we made our choice it took just a little over a week to get the new cushion made. So, we have had nice rosewood furniture for 30 years, including two couches. Our cushions have lasted about 15 years, and we were due. Our last cushions were slightly too small, too soft and had deteriorated. It seemed like the couch was sagging as well. Based on reviews, we went and saw Susan at Cushionworks. I have to admit, she seemed a bit unfriendly on our first visit. She sort of seemed to imply that we were idiots, and knew nothing about what we wanted. I think this impression is unintentional, as she proved quite helpful. I mention only because it was quite off putting, and one must persevere and let it roll off. Anyway, she had great recommendations on cushions and seamstresses. She also made me aware that my couch was sagging from aged out Pirelli straps, which she kindly pointed out I could buy on eBay. Anyway, the straps are replaced, the cushions are perfect, and we could not have been happier with the seamstress she recommended. Whether you do or do not know what you are doing, a pretty good place. Parking, of course, is impossible. read more

I usually do not buy cheap furniture but I was weak and tired from searching for the perfect couch and spending 4K was really not feasible since we were going to have a baby and all. So Crate and Barrel got me--the cushions felt firm and the color and chaise on the left side was perfect; then we actually sat on the damn thing everyday for most of our waking hours for 3 months while figuring out how to handle a new born. That is when it happened. I could not get my ass out of the couch when I was holding the baby because the cushions had already flattened--after 5 months. Long intro to get to Cushion Works, but the back story is important. I called around and got Gary on the phone--he educated me in foam and core strength, so I took one cushion down and they gave me a quote which was in my budget, and within 7 days I had two new cushions that do not flatten like a pancake when I sit down. They were professional and extremely friendly. I will be taking the chaise cushions down there soon, but I have learned my lesson--no more cheap furniture! read more

We took our sunken sofa cushions here. Gary explained what was wrong with our originals and what options he offered to fix them. He gave us examples of their work to sit on. We ended up going with full down replacement cushions. It's pricy but cheaper than a new sofa and certainly easier than shopping for a new couch, waiting for it to be manufactured and delivered. Soooooo nice. I wanted to put a new cushion on a thrift store dining chair I found, and the owner immediately knew what I needed. He had pieces organized, ready and marked for such projects, told me why I needed a thin one (the frame's height is already made for the height of the average leg), but didn't pressure me that I had to get it. He then was so nice to actually cut the shape of the seat out of the foam, and recommended some batting to soften the edges (but again, merely suggested and didn't push). At the end, he also told me where I could find some videos to walk me through my project.
