I was an ice cream maker in a small family run business when I was in high school. I'd like to think that I know good quality frozen confections when I taste them. The Custard Cabin offers fine quality desserts that should please anyone. Certainly the quality that you receive comes at a cost- there is no getting around it. Food (and dessert especially) products can either be cheap or good- you generally can only pick one. If you are price sensitive, there are other lower quality options available elsewhere. Kids generally don't know the difference and some times don't finish what they are given- so I can understand why parents might be price sensitive. Be forewarned if your offspring are as described. Having said that, if you are an adult with a reasonably refined taste for frozen desserts, you'll understand where that extra money spent at Custard Cabin went. It is true that they generally have 1-2 "flavors of the day" plus the standby vanilla and chocolate, but they have frozen pints and quarts usually in many flavors to go. You may want to consider the frozen pint/quart option if the flavor of the day just doesn't do it for you. Sometimes they run out of vanilla and/or chocolate close to closing time. You may want to call ahead if your heart is set on the old standbys. read more

Found a hidden gem in the middle of nowhere Tennessee. This is the kind of place you want to come for breakfast and hang out until lunch is ready. When we first came in we were hit with the aroma of fresh baked goods. Then we were greeted by the two sweetest ladies, felt like coming into my aunt's house. They gave us free custard samples. It was so delicious!! We had some pastries: fresh as can be, super tasty. We are here for a short stay but we are definitely coming back. Highly recommend!! read more

My wife a I went in with a group of 8 of us in a local Corvette club after a long day of cruising. The girls behind the counter were very friendly, pleasant and helpful, offering a tast sample of their flavor of the day. The quality of the ice cream was excellent, the flavors even better and buttery smooth. One of the owner's came over and chatted for a bit and and was also very pleasant. Quality and flavor was excellent, service was excellent, the place was clean and pleasant. The prices were in line with other local shops. Haven't had frozen custard before (to my knowledge), but this was solid! Creamy and delicious. I got a scoop of yellow cake batter which added a depth of flavor, though I found it a bit sweet. My family ordered some other things too. We all agreed the strawnana cyclone (vanilla custard blended strawberries and banana) was the best, as the strawberries added a tartness. Well I'm sad too sad, don't waste your money on one of their shakes. Stopped in to get my husband a shake. First off 8.00 for a shake is way way too much. Then when they first handed it to us in was real small. I said this is a large?? She took it back from us and I think she added some milk in it, it was like water. Custard Cabin is the only ice cream I eat, it's so delicious!! I enjoy going in each week to get my quarts for the week because every time I walk in the door, I'm greeted with the sweetest ladies behind the counter. It used to be a chore going in there before the new owners took over because the lady that worked there was so unpleasant. The new owners also have stepped their cream up quite a bit by adding more of the goodies in each quart. This is a place you must visit while in FFG!! read more

Wow! Totally impressed. Service is fantastic, the combinations are inventive, and the vanilla custard requires a a slow iv drip with a big needle. Great spot to get frozen custard! We went in planning to get cones but upon seeing the deep freezer with dozens of different pints/quarts of flavors, we opted to get a couple of those to take. They have 3 daily flavors of fresh serve which I'm sure we're good, but our to-go quarts were excellent. We had elephant stomp, rocky road, and coconutty. There's a listing on the wall describing each flavor but if the 3 we got were any indication, you won't be disappointed. We would definitely go back. Enjoy! read more

This place is absolutely wonderful! They always have chocolate and vanilla flavors but also have 2 specialty flavors every night. The specialty flavors change each day. Their brownies are delicious, but very rich, I'd recommend ordering some vanilla custard on top to even it out. I went here on June 17 and when we arrived at the drive thru the older lady with curly brunette hair was EXTREMELY rude. We ordered one milkshake and a double scoop cone. She put the ice cream in a cup with no cone and no spoon and said that's the double scoop and never even handed us a cone to put on top of the ice cream but charged us for one. The front porch is a nice place to sit and eat your treat if there are any seats available. Some people might say having only three flavors a day is a problem. This is by far one of the best places to come get some homemade custard. Everytime I visit this area, I have to stop to grab a homemade waffle cone and a scoop or two! The Custard Cabin has three flavors daily - vanilla, chocolate, and the flavor of the day. The flavor of the day is announced on their big readerboard out front. Some examples are Raspberry, Butter Pecan, Mint Chocolate Chip, etc. They do change the flavor every day, so make sure you drive by and check it out! The place is a small, unassuming "cabin". There's about four or five tables to sit down in the dining area and there are places to hang out on the front porch too. Prices are pretty reasonable, expect to pay a little extra for the extra custard they pack into my favorite waffle cone. You can also get yours in a sugar cone or a cup. They'll also do sundaes and other sweet treats. They paved their parking lot recently, so there are plenty of places to park. This is a popular place with the locals, so you might just need that extra parking... be prepared to wait in line when it's hot outside! read more
