Whilst on vacation we happened to discover this gem in LBI. Outstanding customer service and impressive food. I got the bacon cheeseburger & a root beer. The burger was no joke as close to 1/2 pound in weight with crisp tasty bacon and cheddar. Rest of family got milkshakes, clam strips, boneless wings and everyone went away happy. The vibe inside is extremely inviting. The menu board is really cool from a design standpoint. This spot is a must do if you are in the LBI area. I'm planning on visiting again this week. read more

The Custard Hut offers low quality finger foods and a variety of ice creams and gelatos. The food is subpar, my cheesesteak only had cheese on half of it and the meat and onions had 0 flavor. To be fair, the Hut doesn't pretend to be more than a quick finger food joint... so I'm not overly surprised or upset about the lack of quality ingredients. The establishment is run by middle/high schoolers. They're very kind but don't expect the quickest service on the island. The ambiance is great, there's outdoor seating and a short walk to the beach. The menu is difficult to read inside (they sort of layer the menu so that one board blocks the boards behind it), so I'd recommend looking it up before you go in. read more

The first time we drove by the "Custard Hut" I turned my nose up. What the %#$@ is CUSTARD? I had visions of some flan like substance being shoved into a cone. I couldn't have been more wrong. Custard is basically a creamier more heavenly version of soft ice cream. And, oh THEIRS IS SO GOOD! They also have tons of regular ice creams, ices, toppings and some fast food items. But what you really want is a cone or cup filled with their soft cold creamy custard. It beats all ice creams, and makes fro-yo almost laughable! But the cashier was having some issues understanding our orders and the the worker manning the soft serve machine had trouble shutting it off so the ice cream was off kilter and could fall off. We have several frozen custard places near where we live in VA and were pleased to find some options for the same up here. Custard Hut delivers in wonderfully tacky island form. Seriously though, SO MANY CHOICES. I can't imagine how you could walk out of here with anyone in your party dissatisfied. Nice little ice cream shop that also sells food. I haven't tried their food but they have pizza, chicken sandwiches and cheese steaks, fries etc. Went there for ice cream, it's turkey hill ice cream. I liked it, it was very good, I got the salted Carmel which was delicious and the chocolate marshmallow . I did get my son the custard ice cream soft serve ice cream it was sweet but I still liked it. They also do sundaes and also a key lime pie dipped in chocolate. They deliver too. They have a lot of benches outside in cute pastel colors and for the kids they have hula hoops and chalk for them to draw outside. Nice, big menu of tasty food. Service is always pleasant and quick enough. It's a super casual place that has three tables inside, but there is also outdoor seating with about 12 big picnic tables. They also offer jump roping and chalk for the kids while you wait. Haven't had the pizza, but the custard, ice cream and sandwiches are all great. They also have creamsicles (orange and vanilla twist) which are hard to find these days. However, the food that the Custard Hut serves is not up to the standard of their custard. For example, the fries I ordered were WAY too salty. And the chicken fingers I had were not impressive. Overall, if you want ice cream or custard, come here. The food and ice cream here is so great but the real highlight is the employees. They're all so nice and great while making ice cream and talking to customers. I've built a close relationship with them after coming here the last 2 years and they've always been nice. My favorite is the tall boy who goes to southern. This place looks a bit shabby I'll admit I had passed it for years without stopping. My FIL gets the credit for dragging us in for custard one night, because it was his favorite. Well I found out then and there that the custard is fantastic AND they have ORANGE VANILLA TWIST! This is my absolute favorite at "another place" but I must say it might be better here! they serve ice cream till midnight in summer and have ample indoor seating. OK - I hate to be the downer here but I was pretty disappointed with this place. In this part of LBI, there are a number of ice cream places. We chose this one based on the Yelp reviews, but I must question my fellow yelpers on this one. To start, they do not have a large selection of hard ice cream and no soft ice cream, at all. Yes, I know the name is Custard Hut but I still would have figured that they had some soft ice cream. They do have frozen yogurt and custard, obviously. I went with a small cup of the vanilla custard - I thought it was decent - not the greatest I have had but definitely acceptable. For a place to don the custard name, I was expecting a little bit more. One of the issues here was the people they had running the place. It took close to 10 minutes for us to be served a plain cup of custard and 2 cones (no one else was ahead of us or behind us). The one girl who took our order didn't seem to know how to work the register and then forgot to give my wife her change. Kind of a disaster. If I was in the area again looking for some ice cream or custard, I will probably give a different place a shot. read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would! If you have food allergies, STAY AWAY!!!!! My family and I stopped here on our way up to the beach after work one night and I will never ever step foot in here again. I voiced my concerns to the the teenager who was working the counter, who clearly seemed agitated because she was busy. I made it very clear of my sons food allergies and specifically asked if the burger patties were JUST beef, not containing anything else (after I told her my sons allergies). She went to the back and quickly came out and told me they were safe for him to eat "just beef" she said. We ordered a patty for my son...we had our own roll. They brought our food out and within 2 minutes he told me that his throat felt weird and the food felt like it was stuck. I immediately knew something wasn't right. My son is 9 and he's only been exposed to his main allergy, egg once. I told him to stop eating and that if he drank the food would go down. He also suffers from EoE. We went up to the beach and he kept saying he wasn't feeling well, then proceeded to throw up multiple times. I quickly called and asked to speak to the manager, assuming she was the one who was working in the kitchen. I told her the situation and explained that I was just in there and that I had asked about the food ingredients. She tells me, yes, the burgers have egg!! I told her that I explained all of this to the girl who took our order and she assured me that it was safe. She proceeds to say, oh well, she must have been busy. Really???? That's all she had to say??? My son could have died that night and that's how she handled the situation. Not even an apology!!! I advise anyone with food allergies to stay away, this was a horrific experience. The servers and management are clearly not trained properly on food allergies or how to deal with customers with food allergies. My son could have lost his life that night, it's an experience I will never forget. read more

Went here last night with my boyfriend for ice cream. The ice cream is good, but there were quite a few things that were not. First off, the difference between a size small in a cup versus a cone is absurd. My boyfriend and I both got cups (mine cookie dough ice cream with nestle crunch topping, his vanilla soft serve with Reese's pieces) and were astonished at the size difference when comparing them to other customers who ordered size small cones. 80 cents per topping, I was expecting my ice cream to be loaded! That was not the case....I could count the number of Reese's pieces on my boyfriend's ice cream on two hands! Service was....less than okay. The young girl taking our order asked us both to repeat our very simple orders twice after just stating it less than 5 seconds prior. And the food handling of the employees is NOT okay....touching money and god knows what else with bare hands and then handling my ice cream and toppings after not washing or sanitizing them?? Yikes. This used to be my favorite place as a kid but I will likely not be returning. read more
