I am here to report that Skipper Dipper is still the best soft serve on the island. We brought our baby for opening day yesterday. The staff, as always, couldn't have been nicer (tip your servers, folks! I forgot and had to go back in with cash because they are the nicest) and the ice cream was 10/10 per usual. My husband got vanilla soft serve and I got a cranberry chocolate swirl (my favorite) in a chocolate chip cone. Baby had nothing since she's too little. Worth every penny. Happy 48th year, SD! What I love is that staff members try to take your order while you're in line and still even offer samples if you're unsure. Towards Labor Day weekend they start offering fall flavors like pumpkin pie and cinnamon bun, which is exciting. I got to try a skipper-fy which is adding a chocolate or vanilla soft serve on top of your hard scoop ice cream. I was there last week with my family and we purchased ice cream, crock pendants and mugs. We had a young man helping us that I later found out it was his first shift so a man assisted him with ringing us up. I just want to let you know that the young man was very polite and helpful and the gentleman who helped him was very generous. Though at times there's a large line, it almost always moves quick and you usually get served within 25 minutes when the line is at its longest, but it's worth it. All of the staff are super friendly, and make sure you get served as soon as possible. It is good to take home, or sit outside on the benches. It is has a fair amount of room to sit outside, and the inside is decorated amazingly and it's really cool to be in. Toasted Coconut is excellent. Fat Elvis is a fun combo. I hear Maine Blueberry is great but it always sells out before I can sample. Plenty of Dole Whip and Italian Ice too. Warning: the line is long at night but LBI evenings are pleasant and the authorized dippers start taking your order and delivering to you while you wait to check out. We saw a line when we walked in the door but we're quickly greeted by a server who took our order before we got to the counter. I couldn't believe with how many people were there our entire experience probably took only 10 minutes. The service is amazing here! The menu is extensive. I ordered a scoop of salted caramel and s'more in a waffle cone. I added on the cookie butter smear to my cone....a must do! We went to skipper dipper over the weekend, a little bit preseason to the major crowds and there is still a little bit of a line out the door. Once we got our ice cream and malt shake it was clear why. Skipper dipper is clearly in LBI classic. My chocolate peanut butter ice cream, which is my favorite flavor, was perfection and the waffle cone tasted like it was made fresh, among the best that I have had! I would absolutely recommend Skipper dipper to anybody visiting Long Beach Island I'm looking for an ice cream spot. I believe their hours are later over the summer, or at least longer.
