I had been using a local service with a monthly support agreement but recent experiences with under trained techs led me to search for someone more familiar with my boiler. After having been quoted $4,900 to repair my boiler for error codes and inaccurate pressure readings from Company A, I contacted Welter and he came in and assessed a few problems. The issues were addressed efficiently, parts were replaced, connections were repaired the boiler was deemed ready for service and the total bill amounted to less than 20% of Company A. He was polite and very upfront that his work is charged by time, not flat rate, and that we might be financially better off working with someone more local to us. In spite of the fact that he then knew we would be employing a closer plumber, he spent considerable time on the phone looking at the plumbing photos I texted him and explaining the particular issues a plumber would have to resolve in our 1970's plumbing situation. It was obvious he was experienced, knowledgeable, and generous with information. Through my own experience over the years, I have found that when service professionals give flat rates without any questions asked, they are assuming that it will be a standard job. I appreciate when the plumber tries to understand the particular plumbing circumstances with questions and photos BEFORE the estimate, and before appointments are made. Many yelp reviewers of plumbers are surprised and unhappy when they only are told the job will cost more once the plumber arrives, and then the plumber expects to be paid for time spent coming to the house. The impression that Mr Dolan left with me from our single phone conversation is that he is a person of integrity who wants people to understand their particular plumbing situation, what the remedies might be, and then what the cost might be, so they can make educated decisions BEFORE the plumber comes in and expects to get paid for the visit. Solely because of the extra cost that would be incurred by us as a result of the distance, we did not hire Mr Dolan, but we would certainly recommend considering him if your project is closer to his location.

We were a long time customer of Demelo Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning. Over the years we have…read moreused them for drainage issues, plumbing repair and hot water heater maintenance and until recently delivered a reasonable service. On our request, Demelo came to our house on June 7 to clear a clogged kitchen drain. The technician worked on it and declared the problem fixed. We were charged $230. About a week later the drain was clogged again. On June 17 Demelo returned to clear the same clogged drain. A different technician "fixed it" and charged us another $370. In a weak moment I paid. So after paying $600 and one more week, the drain was clogged again for the 3rd time. On June 28, we called Ari's ProDrain Cleaning to clear the same clogged drain that none of the Demelo technicians were able clear. Ari charged us $250 and gave a 30 day warranty. The drain is working well now. I contacted Demelo several times to complain and I requested a $300 refund (should be all $600). After several calls the Demelo business person told me that the owner can only authorize a $60 credit on THE NEXT SERVICE. Demelo does not provide a warranty on their work even though their website states under plumbing services: "Demelo Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning is there to fix those problems, making sure your day-to-day routines, whether at work or home, continue unabated. Need an installation or repair? Call us. We'll have one of our team members out to appraise the situation and get you up and running, leaving you with the confidence of knowing the job was done properly." In other words empty words. The charge time and materials whether they fix the problem or not. Clearly a company to avoid.
