I first went to the print shop on Los Angeles Avenue, across from the lumber yard. The abundance…read moreof politically charged signs and stickers adorning the windows and front door suggested to me that my business wouldn't be appreciated, so I tried to find Top T's -- which seems to have closed since I last got T-shirts, and I tried to work with Monarch -- which seems to have closed since the Pandemic. I ended up at Spectra Color and was worried my low quantities would be too small of an order for Mark. To my surprise Mark was happy to see me, immediately stopping whatever he was working on and sharing pricing information and additional knowledge about T-shirt and Sweatshirt fabrics and quality. That gave me a head-start and I left to brainstorm for a couple weeks. I came back with samples of art from flyers and a couple wild ideas, plus exact quantities for an order. Mark rolled with the changes in my specifications and even helped me clean up my previous designs so they would look cleaner on the new products. With all those demands and details, I was nervous about telling him I needed the garments in a month. Mark said he could easily get them done in two weeks -- and ended up taking some vacation time off and still delivering my order only ten days later! That boosted my confidence in Mark's abilities, so I returned a couple weeks later to ask if he could blow up my design and put it on a weird banner I had been thinking about. Since he had already improved my original graphics format, enlarging it was easy for him. Mark listened to my ideas, suggested some variations on my ideas, and even provided some better alternatives for mounting the resulting banner securely. Two weeks later (well, probably only ten days, but I didn't return to pick up the results for two weeks) Mark had produced a banner that was better than I had imagined, plus it cost less than the shirts! I'm so glad I found Spectra-Color! Mark was extremely patient in working with me, not just listening to my ideas and fulfiling my order, but collaborating with me when my ideas were vague and helping me to design and deliver fantastic results and high quality products. Spectra-Color may be one of a dwindling number of custom print shops in Simi Valley. His work is top-notch and, from now on, I refuse to take my print jobs to anyone else!

We have struggled finding a quality printing company that can fulfill our organizations needs while…read morerespecting deadlines and paying attention to detail. No job is to big or small for these guys and the staff takes the time to educate you thru the process. They won't sell you anything you don't need and can work with any budget. From T-shirts, banners, business cards and anything in between to market your business or event. Valley signs & printing is a one stop shop with some of the best rates in town. Definitely a time saver!

I like to support the small local business, and as I needed some new signs made for my vehicle, I…read morestopped in to see what they could do. The gal who works up front is super nice, and helpful. She measured my car window, and took my info and thought it would be about $25 (comparable to Badge Busters two doors away). While I knew it might vary a little from her first guess, I said, let's proceed. She said the actual designer needed to get my artwork and give me an exact quote. So, I sent them an EPS (vector scalable) file of my exact logo/design. A week later, I hadn't heard anything so I stopped in. They were confused and thought they sent it. Asked for my contact info again and that night I actually got the quote. For the big sign on the back of my vehicle, it would be $75. I replied that I would like to see a proof just to make sure it looks alright and then let's go for it. (Three times the price of their competition, but I wasn't too worried. Then I get back another email saying, it would be an extra $35 for "design". I was confused as I already did the design and gave them a perfectly finished piece of digital artwork. So, I called in to make sure I didn't misunderstand. They said that even with my artwork, they need to charge a "design fee" as it is just standard policy. I asked why they needed to charge me to use my OWN artwork. They said, "Anytime we have to turn on the computer to do anything, it is $35" That is just the owner's policy. I asked to speak to the owner and they asked why would I even want to see the proof before they did the printing. WHAT? As a small business owner, I go out of my way to accomodate my clients and a simple request like, "Can I see it before you stick it on my car" would be the sort of request I would not think twice about. But, she kept repeating, "Sorry, that is our policy. We can't change it" So, instead of spending over a $100 for something that should have cost $25, I am taking my business next door and hopefully, the owner can learn from this situation about how to provide some small level of customer service. In a commodity business like printing, there really isn't anything to make your business stand out besides how you treat your customers. Then again, maybe I am such small potatoes that they don't care one bit about losing my business. Good for them.
