Quick context: I'm a first time parrot owner, and I wanted a sharp looking cage that was intelligently designed. I find the standard cages in pet stores to be fairly ugly, and most are criminally undersized. This company, and the people who work there, are fantastic. Nathan spent over an hour with me on the phone to dial in my custom H2 Hybrid Enclosure for my lineolated parakeet. The enclosure arrived in 8 FedEx boxes (I ordered a stand as well so that the cage is eye level and has storage underneath). Take your time, lay out all of the parts, and study the instructions before assembling. Once you start, you'll realize how intelligently it is designed. After assembly, Bob fielded a series of questions I had via email. They take their time with you, are very fair minded, and are super quick to respond. The cage looks fantastic, is very well built, and their customer service is outstanding. It's well worth the cost, and I would absolutely order from them again. Highly recommend! read more

SUCH A SCAM COMPANY! Paid over $6000 for a parrot cage which is made of plastic with steel wire sides and top. It took an engineer 7 hours to assemble and another 31/2 to fix the faulty legs. The bottom of the cage is made of flimsy plastic that is supposed to slide in. Junk. It is impossible to push in. I ordered a large hybrid cage for a large parrot. A rope climber was sent for a parakeet. When I asked to have one sent that was the correct size they want me to pay an up charge and shipping! Wow! Now after reading all of the reviews I can only blame myself for doing business with this company. I purchased the H3 Reptile ultimate package which was around $9200. Look, for $9200 this is beyond overpriced and I'm sure they know that. Even then that's on me because I needed something big for my iguana. The main problem is the flooring. It is very flimsy and not sturdy at all. I personally did not feel safe putting any weight on the floor. I ended up having to build my own floor for the enclosure. It cost me an extra $200 and about a days work. Well in the process of replacing the floors we scratched the doors. I called the company and explained to them that for $9200 they need a much better flooring system. I explained that I had to build my own floor and that I scratched the doors in the process. It would've been nice for the company to acknowledge that the floor is poorly designed and that for the inconvenience they would send me new doors. Even if the company just said, hey we understand, we are going to send you new acrylic inserts without the door frames, that would've been enough to keep me as a customer. Instead they said hey sorry but the inserts are going to cost $75 each oh and you have to pay shipping too. So for $300 they just lost a customer that spent $9200 with them. And probably would've recommended them to friends and family along with a positive review. I would highly recommend you understand what you're buying. The h3 is nice but it is way overpriced and the flooring is garbage. You will have to build your own floor if you plan on walking inside and cleaning or decorating the habitat. I'm going to share a little diddy about getting a couple of enclosures from Custom Cages. I call them enclosures but in reality, these are displays, like super legit showcases for your pets. So to call them enclosures seems a bit dirty. The order went very smooth, we knew pretty much what we wanted so the process was fairly painless. I was told the they would ship in about 4-5 weeks. To my surprise they shipped in just 2 weeks. I got the confirmation email.... took a double take on the shipment....yep my eyes saw that correct, 17 boxes!! 17! They arrived in great shape and sat in the dining room for a few days as we gathered ourselves for what was going to be a long journey. Sunday morning rolls around and our son asked if we wanted to put them together....deep breath, "Sure". We unboxed an ungodly amount of product and neatly organized everything. OK, 4 people, 2 Displays.... and all day. yep. After a few take backs because I didn't follow the instructions well, the displays were up and looking fine! 8 hours, 4 people and every second was worth it. Imagine having adult legos and having the whole family gather around and build together. It was sunday church but we engaged with each other. Thank you Custom Cages for the glorious displays for our beardies and for the much needed family time you guys facilitated for us. You guys are a 10 star easy. read more

I ordered a custom 6ft x 6ft x 18in deep last summer in August of 2019. The item in question was paid for in the sum of $4,866.06. Upon receiving the enclosure, I hired two experienced design carpenters to put it together so I could be sure that it would be built correctly. I noticed immediately that no portion of it was water proof and there was no flooring stable enough to support even a bowl of water for the animals. To fix this problem, I utilized the divider that was sent with the enclosure that did NOT fit the frame anyways and stabilized the bottom for the most part, I thought. The doors on the enclosure are faulty, do not open and close correctly, and the frame was admittedly cut unevenly in an email from me to the manufacturer. I also told them before the accident that the structure was unsafe due to it being top heavy while also being too heavy for the supporting wheels that I purchased extra so it would be mobile and I could clean behind it and change the wiring if necessary (which it always is). I've been raising water dragons for years and never once come across a terrarium that wasn't waterproof. This was supposed to be designed by reptile specialists. They even asked me what species would be in my enclosure and my response was "water dragon". There's no room for any substrate at the bottom because not only is the bottom not strong enough to hold anything, it isn't even close to deep enough either. I emailed all of these problems along with others twice and the first time I was told how to repair it which came out of my pocket and was only a temporary fix and the second time I was basically just brushed off. Last Wednesday I had to move the enclosure three inches from the wall to add a fixture to the back and as soon as I moved it from the bottom, the whole bottom fell apart and just as I feared the whole thing fell over scratching and burning me from the lights, injuring my pet, and almost hitting my 8 year old daughter which would have led to certain death for her as this structure weighs minimum 300 lbs. I've owned this terrarium for only 11 months and it's completely ruined. It was poorly designed and built and proved to be incredibly dangerous. I sent them pics in all of our correspondences, so they knew exactly what was happening. I was misled and want my money back along with compensation for all of the trouble this has caused. If this company continues to put out this kind of product, the next owner's daughter might not be so lucky. As a reptile owner, this enclosure has been a nightmare. At this point it is so far beyond repair and all they are offering to help is extra parts (which I will not be able to repair myself due to the size and complexity of the structure) "at cost". I emailed them a third time to explain what happened when I moved it and they didn't even apologize for putting my daughters safety at risk. My cat loves it. After almost 8 years, the 5' dia. cage is still together, strong with no rust! I highly recommend it, but be sure to have at least 3 or more people to put it together. You can paint over the scratches. read more

After constantly looking for a large log for my iguana i came across custom cages I found the y log with the bottom platform and the log stretching across it, it was pretty pricey I think I paid 160 and I thought well I love my iguana so much and I want her to be able to climb up her cage comfortably so I bought it I received my package today and let me tell you it's made out of styrofoam it's so cheap it's pretty much just painted and it's so porous so many particles fall off of it like sand I don't even think this is safe to use for my iguana They sell all 3 parts separately or all three for a ridiculously amount if I would've know how cheap it was I would've never purchased and they have the most ridiculous return policy that I am not going through the hassle I felt as if I threw money in the trash read more

I ordered a large enclosure 48x48x24 and selected the "premium" option. The enclosure is okay, but I cannot call it "premium": the cage is quite rickety... Such size definitely needs more reinforcement. I am sure it won't fall apart, but it is not solid when moved around (and prepare to retrofit it with rubber pads to eliminate noice from panels banging on the frame....). All the extras they offer is a trap -- I do not recommend pricier options. Y-log is a joke that goes straight to the recycling -- bulky and not realistic at all. So does "full spectrum light" which is a white plastic $15 light fixture from Target, does not qualify as adequate UVB source for reptiles. Would it be more reasonably priced, I would give higher rating. I feel I paid twice the price it is worth it. read more

Terrible! I don't know how they are in business... I ordered 6 rotating feeders, the only way they looks good was in the picture, even the bolts were rusty. Not to mention the delivery date was initially assumed for them to be Dec 31! I ordered on Dec 3! thats not 20 days as they said. Also if you wants to cancel the order once you realize they are not serious about you, they want to charge you 25% of an order that is not even shipped. So I protested and guess what: the order was shipped to me in 3 days.... so the "20 days" timeframe was to be lazy!? I spend more than $500 on this order and end up finding someone else to rebuild my rotating feeders, also I had to replace all the mechanisms because you can not use rusty metal for exterior. Possibly the worst and most unethical company I have ever dealt with - BUYER BEWARE! I hired Custom Aquariums/Custom Cages to build 5 tanks including a high-end 400 gallon and stand, and everything was great until the largest tank and stand arrived damaged. The stand had come loose and bounced around for who knows how much of the 2,000 miles trip, stripping 7 of 9 leg levelers from their threads. The stand broke through the plywood and damaged the tank underneath. Custom Aquariums would only agree to remake the tank if I took the damaged stand, that we didn't even know was viable. They expected me to pay an additional ~$1,000 in moving costs, which they said was "technically not our problem." They didn't seem to care about anything other than not paying return shipping, let alone that shipping the aquarium back to them and not rebuilding it would put another 4,000 miles on its seams. According to them, after their mistakes and not crating the tanks sufficiently - they said "No one wins in these situations." Apparently I was supposed to pay for their mistake too. Then there were the machine marks on the aquarium edges they failed to polish out - that they said were "normal". Right. After telling them that I wouldn't take responsibility for someone else packing up a tank and shipping it back to them - they said this was "unreasonable". They finally punted on the entire order, not caring that the deal they were trying to push on me was very likely an unsafe tank and stand. They admitted they modified their crating techniques based on this incident, yet wouldn't admit they did anything wrong. LOL. They even kept $234 saying it was an "accounting error". I can't make this stuff up. I had chosen this company after having spoken with many people who had good experiences - but you really don't get to know a company or its people until things go wrong, and they make the choice to take responsibility for their mistakes and do the right thing, or make excuses. RUN from this company - there are a lot of better companies out their to make your aquarium dreams come true - this company doesn't deserve any of your money. read more

The company Customcages offer to build custom cages/vivarium. The price depends on type and size. They give option to choose type and size online and they have different packages from basic to premium what incudes the shipping. I have placed premium order what was including shipping in amount of $1,196.95 The order has been placed and paid in full amount of $5,206.90 on September 15th, 2017. Originally scheduled to be shipped on Oct 27th, 2017. The actual sipping date was Oct 31st. The shipment delayed not just from facility it did not arrived on time even per delivery company schedule. Arrival was scheduled for 11/03/2017 and I received it on 11/06/2017 at the end of the day instead by 2 pm as they confirmed with by phone. Due to the delivery company I had to plan my two working days around it and jeopardize my job and I lost two paid days as well. As a conclusion, originally the item should be delivered on Nov.1st but arrived week later. When I got my first chance to open the package it was very disappointing. Especially for the price I had to pay I feel and I know it is not just right. Almost like a scam. There are too many issues. Here I will list just several of them - Firstly: the replica is such quality that it is impossible for me to place my pet in vivarium. It will kill my pet: it is full of sand it is pouring off the rocks and material is toxic. I have confirmed it with other company. They are using Polyurethane foam. It is toxic for people as well. - Second: 24" full spectrum combos are not made for vivarium use. This is a kitchen light fixture with some plastic covering bulb what makes UVB light unavailable to pet and this is whole purpose of vivarium "life support. The installed bulb is not what I have placed in order over the phone. I was emphasizing during the placing order this is for the desert reptile Three-foot door 50 inches high cannot withstand three small kitchen cabinet hinges with 5/8 in screws. This engineering will show premature failure. The large cabinet is not screwed to the base, and when the door opens the cabinet falls forward 4-5 inches. Top panel has warped wood so it does not sit correct on one side All items what was included to this order was not custom to the pet and bad quality as well. Even the light bulb stopped to work in couple days After contacting Customcages they agreed refund only $400 for replica, replaced damaged energy control center, have shipped overnight missing hardware. I made attempt to request a larger refund because of shipment issues, quality and all the additions was not custom at all, besides the vivarium was not build custom as they describe on website. I did not have any fixtures to place proper and ability to run the vivarium till Nov 30th after I received (almost month later). I had to buy additional items and fixtures in order this to be an actually vivarium. However, I been told this is all they can do refund of $400 for replica. read more

This is specifically in regards to their reptile "replica" rock accessories such as basking ledges, water/food dishes, Y-log, and straight log. These are often included with their large and expensive cage packages. I already had a cage, so I bought just the accessories. I was excited because they look okay in pictures and are of a large size I needed. The delivery was extremely slow, over a month. But what arrived was like a slap in the mouth. These are far from the realistic good quality accessories advertised. They essentially appear to be like an arts and crafts project made out of styrofoam and is porous. And it is not even sturdy/hard material but like flaky. You rub your hand on the stuff comes off on your hand. When you poke at it, large chunks flake off. And they are only painted one color. What is realistic about one color? Have you ever seen a rock or piece of wood with zero color variation? Not to mention, they even use this flaky material for things like water dishes. Using a material that is porous and has chunks flaking off for a water dish that an animal would ingest? That is not only poor craftsmanship, but is unsafe for the animal. And on top of this, the stuff is very pricey, which is further ridiculous on account of how silly the quality is. I showed them to several people who all responded with a resounding WTF. Maybe I got a bad batch, but I have a feeling no. I'm sure some of their other accessories are okay and I cannot attest to the overall quality of their large cages and other non-reptile animal products - but stay far way from their reptile replica rock ledges, logs, food dishes, etc. read more

We ordered a custom cage from Cages by Design and we were told that the delivery time was 4-5wks from the time that the paperwork was signed and the credit card information was submitted. We submitted our paperwork and payment right 5/13/15. Based off the information given, 6/17/15 would have been the date that our cage should have been shipping out. On 6/16/15 we tried to reach out to them to see if we were on track to ship out that week. I was told they would call me back the next day after checking with the production manager. I waited and called again at the end of the day the next day and was told again that they had to check with the production manager. I waited another two days before calling again, leaving messages, emailing and getting no response. Two days after my email we finally were told that there was a 2 week delay in production. After all was said and done our order didn't leave until 7/10/2015. The enclosure itself was lovely but there was a complete lack of professionalism and communication on their end. read more
