We have a large sectional sofa that had 3 sagging back support cushions making it uncomfortable . It also had 4 accessory pillows that had outdated pillow casings. We found Kimberly through yelp and she was extremely helpful , she offered suggestion and showed us various fabrics and styles to choose from. Great yelp find! Orlando and his daughter were wonderful to work with. We were able to do everything via phone and text up until they picked up our sofa and returned it. This even included picking out a fabric. They would film the swatch roles as we narrowed this down. I would of never realized that this could be even possible, but we did it (this really helped with Covid)! They were very professional, timely and great, personal service. Attached is a picture of the recovered sofa. Note that it is oversized so we had to fit it in the house when we changed out the front door so the house is not finished yet. I want to give a big shout out to Orlando and Mani at Custom Draperies & Upholstery. We happened upon his store on Studewood and saw that they did caning. Dropped off a dining room chair and it was re-caned and stained to match the others at a very reasonable price. Following this we dropped three other pieces all requiring a bit of repair and restoration before reupholstering. We've received two of the three and they are amazing! Professionally recovered like new. We were even able to make use of some of his extra material. Family owned, friendly demeanor and professional results. I reached out to this company because of favorable reviews on Yelp. I sent them an email with pictures of a job I wanted done, and they responded promptly within 24 hours. I emailed back saying I was interested in having the work done with one follow up question. I never got a response. I called the offices- there was a voicemail revealing that the actual hours differed from what was provided via email. I called back during regular hours and got an automated voicemail again. I called back again on another day and got the owner, who said it was best to call in. I explained the project and asked my question directly. He answered and provided times to schedule for pick up of the item to be upholstered. I told him I would get back to him later in the day to confirm time- which I did. I called back and it went to voicemail, I left a message with the preferred time and asking to call me back for confirmation. No one returned my call. I called again the next day, and again, no one picked up. I left another message to confirm the pick up. No one responded or followed up, and no one came for the pick up. I was prepared to pay them over $700 for this first job, and depending on how they did- I needed several other projects completed. The sale was made, all they had to do was confirm the time- I guess they just don't need the money or the business. I found the lack of response to be extremely unprofessional. read more

As I make a dog cover for my sofa, I'm compelled to tell you that this sofa is probably 20 years old and it's the most well made piece of furniture I've ever owned. They made it from scratch based on a photo of a sofa at Pottery Barn for less than half the PB price. I got new foam for the seat cushions about 4 years ago, but that's all. The joints are as firm as the day I brought it home and the seams are as straight. No longer live in Houston but if I did I'd ABSOLUTELY be a return customer. read more

I cannot say enough about the work Orlando did on my 1800 Victorian love seat that was flooded last August. It is absolutely beautifully reupholstered and I am so pleased with his workmanship. I highly recommend his friendly staff, daughter Kimberly and Manny both helpful and informative through the process. Excellent customer service! The upholstery time took about 2 days to complete. We have an L shaped wooden window bench in our foyer that we decided needed to be covered with a nice cushion instead of the throw pillows we were using. We hired CDU to make us a leather banquet type cushion some 8 feet long that also needed to turn a corner. Worked with Orlando, Kimberly, and Manny who came to the house to take measurements, help us pick out the leather, tack design and the height. This job was no problem for them. It all came together perfectly and fits like a glove. Like a high quality chair. Couldn't be happier. If you need some custom furniture or upholstery work, this is the place to go. We went there only because we saw the storefront in our Heights neighborhood; didn't see any advertising but did see them on Yelp. So I'm adding to all the good recommendations I see here. (Fact )this company promised something that they could not deliver. (opinion) the person that answers the phone is very rude and incompetent. (Fact) I dropped off stools to get reupholstered never did they tell me they couldn't do it. When it was done they look horrible! Then the owner of the business told me that he could not make them look like the manufacturer did because they use a different process by heating them. Refuse to give me the money back unless I dropped the stools off with him and gave them to him!( opinion) this is a joke of a company starting with the people in the office and of course all the way up to the owner! I lost most everything in Hurricane Harvey but sent a few pieces of inherited or nice furniture to Orlando Castillo. It was a horrible experience as Orlando (the owner) said he threw away my Henredon armoire. I am unsure if it was thrown away or what might have happened but when I was angry that this was done without asking my permission, he responded that he thought I would have respected his professional opinion. (apparently then making it unnecessary to ask the owner if it was ok) And my antique sideboard from Ireland was returned significantly damaged when it appeared someone tried to jimmy open a door as they did not have the key. After so much loss, I felt totally violated by this company and the no responsibility and lack of caring attitude. They refused to offer to do anything to make it right and so I picked up what little was left and brought it to another company for the restoration. I asked other restoration companies if they would ever throw away a potential client's furniture without permission and of course they all were rather embarrassed than another company in their line of work would. read more
