They did a complete HVAC rebuild on my home when I finished my basement, converted to high efficiency HVAC equipment, and zoned my house. They also installed a whole house humidifier, which is great in the dry winter air of Colorado. I'm now on their subscription service for annual system tuneups on all parts of my HVAC system, which keeps it working well, and also gets me priority service when I need it for any repair calls, if they come up. I scheduled heating and AC tune ups for 2 properties (email confirmations for both), because they performed an HVAC installation for me a while back and it went fine. I had the 8am-12pm window scheduled for one of the properties and essentially blocked off my morning for this. I received a text at 11am on the day of, stating the technician would not be able to make it. I inquired then about the service on the second property, which they had no record of. I have tenants there who are now also being inconvenienced by the irresponsibility of this company. With essentially a, "sorry bout that", I was then asked when I'd like to reschedule. Furnace Install: ***************** I had Mr Dwayne "Owner" come to my house for a free estimate back in 2008 on installing a new furnace, he did beat everyone's offer and got my business. He offered me 10 years warranty on the equipment and 1 year warranty on labor. The furnace's motor broke within 8 or 9 years later and Custom Heating came and replaced it with a brand new motor that we are still using today. Central Air Install: ******************** Because of the great customer service and experience that I've always had with Custom Heating, I had to call Mr Dwayne again for a brand new central air install last week and again he offered me a great price compared to everyone else that came to my house. Yesterday his tech showed up as scheduled and installed my new AC unit with a WIFI thermostat that I love, his technicians were very professional, nice and polite enough to answer all my questions, they also worked on better ways to not damage my walls by running all required pipes and cables through hidden spots and avoid any mess in my utility room. Mr Dwayne offered me 10 years warranty on the compressor, 10 year warranty on the coil and 5 years warranty on the labor. I would suggest to anyone who wants a free estimate to ask for Mr Dwayne in person if possible and work out the appointment day/time with the scheduler. I'm sure you will be more than satisfied. Before my wife and I purchased our house, Custom had serviced the furnace and water heater for the previous owner. When we needed help with a non-functioning furnace coming out of last winter, they came right out and diagnosed it as a bad thermostat. They even showed my wife how easy it was to replace it ourselves. And when I woke up this morning to find we had full cold water (and pressure) and no hot water, I assumed the worst (a busted pipe) and called Custom right away. I was put on an on-call appointment for noon to 4 today. To my surprise, the tech called a few minutes later and said he could stop by on the way to his first appointment of the day. He flushed the water heater to check if it was sediment built up...all fine. Pumped oxygen into the hot water pipe...nothing. Which meant a frozen pipe underneath our slab foundation. He recommended cranking up the heat and turning every hot water faucet on all the way. Then, right after 1pm the faucets roared to life. I am incredibly impressed and thankful for Custom and their knowledgeable techs who go above and beyond to help us out. read more

I had a swamp cooler installed two years, and i was happy with the service Custom Heating provided, but this year there was a leak coming from the unit. i called the company on Monday and left a message, asking to get a callback to schedule an appointment, but no one called me back. Tuesday i called again and was able to talk to someone, who wrote my name and phone number and promise that one of the owners "Laura" would give me a call that day. I waited again, but i did not hear from anyone. I called the next day, and spoke with the same person, who told me the same thing, Laura would give me a call, but this time i was told that the earliest would be the following week. It's now Friday, five days since my initial call, and this company has not returned any of my phone calls. At this point I'm very frustrated with the service and i'm looking for another company to do the repair work. I would not recommend this company; they just seem to not care of any old customers. read more

Had Custom come out to do a winter tune up on our heating system. Had used another company for many years, but the tech we used was no longer at the company so I decided to try someone new. Custom sent out Benny & Dino to do the work. They were very thorough and walked me through some of the ways our system could better perform with some minor changes in how we use our system. Benny has extensive background in HVAC and asked questions about our comfort and the HVAC performance to give me some feedback on how we could improve efficiency & comfort. There was no upselling and the areas in which they worked were left clean and set back to how they were previously. I really appreciate when people take pride in their jobs and it is very apparent that these guys do. They are on my short list for HVAC maintenance and issues. I worked with this company over a period of about 6 years. At first they did well but over the past 3 years I have had nothing but problems. Each time I call I am greeted with a RUDE receptionist/scheduler. The office manager NEVER returns your calls. They installed the same furnace blower wheel THREE times because they kept installing it wrong. They would blame it on the manufacturer of the furnace. I finally had another company come out to take a look and they explained all the reasons why they did it wrong. Just to be sure we talked with Lennox (furnace manufacturer) and they confirmed everything that the new company had told me. RUN as fast as you can from Custom Heating and Air. They will not do quality work and will treat you badly at the same time. read more

We just used Custom Heating and Air to install a Central A/C and a new Furnace. The experience from start to finish was wonderful! When Dwane, the Owner came out to give me the initial estimate he spent well over an hour with me explaining everything to me so I could fully understand. We talked about options and he never made me feel like he was selling anything, just educating. I had gotten many estimates (6) from different companies and what it came down to for me was the Customer Service. On the day of installation the technicians arrived on time and began working. They laid out runners and were the most polite gentleman. They were efficient and hard working. I found Custom Heating and Air on Angie's List. I called and scheduled a free onsite for Thursday, November 14th 2013 at 8:00 am. The lady who answered the phone said that 8 am appointments would be tough, and I said I understood, but that it was important for us to have the appointment right at 8:00 am, because we have jobs downtown, and can't hang around the house all morning. She agreed to schedule the appointment for 8:00 am on 11/14/2013. On the morning of 11/14/2013, we were waiting around the house, and no one showed up or called until 8:40 am, the owner Dwane called and said he would be there right at 9:00 am or a little after. I explained to him that 9:00 am would be too late, because we had to get to work, and that I had made the appointment for 8:00 am. He was very nice, apologetic for the "mix-up", and kindly offered to come on Saturday morning, instead. Saturday morning of November 16th arrived, and Dwane called ahead of time to make sure 9:00 am would still work, he arrived right on time. He spent over an hour walking the house with us, answered all our questions about having the furnace and A/C installed, was very knowledgeable and professional. He got our email address, said he would send the quote. He left us with a very good impression, and we would have hired them in a heartbeat, to install a brand new furnace, A/C and thermostat, assuming the price was right. However, we never got the quote from Dwane. I called the office sometime the week of November 18th to the 22nd (following our free onsite), asked for the quote. The lady who answered the phone that day acted concerned, took my name and phone number and email, got the address in question, said she would talk to Dwane and get me the quote or call me back if there was a problem. I never got the quote, or received a phone call. I called again on December 17th at 11:13 am, and spoke to Laura at the office. Again, she got the address, my email address, and phone number, and told me she would look into it and call me back. I never got a phone call, or received the quote. I called ONE LAST TIME, on December 23rd at 9:30 am, and this time spoke to Mercia in the office. AGAIN, she got the address, my phone number, my email, and acted concerned I never received the quote, said she would look into it, and call me back. AGAIN, I never got a phone call, or the quote emailed to me. I am an office manager for a family owned construction-type business as well. I can understand, messing up the appointment time. People make mistakes. Being in a similar type of business, I can even understand one quote slipping through the cracks, and forgetting to send one out, if you are sending out 20-40 quotes per day, like I do at my job. However, I gave them three more chances after the initial onsite, to send me the quote, or at least call me back and tell me they are not interested in having us as customers, as seems to be the case. I am not really sure why this company was not willing to do business with us, since it was going to be an $6,000-$9,000 project, based on the quotes we have received from other Angie's List Heating Companies who WERE able to send us quotes. And if they didn't want us as customers, that's fine. Maybe they didn't like that my husband is an informed customer, who was knowledgeable, and asked a lot of questions...maybe they do shady work, and aren't willing to do work for someone who my question their quality of work...I can only speculate...But if they didn't want our business, they could have at least had the decency to pick up the phone and kindly let us know they weren't interested, instead of blowing us off. In my opinion, this is very unprofessional, the customer service is very poor, and I would not even bother calling them for a quote. Chances are, it will just be a waste of your time. I was selling my house and during the inspection learned the furnace and air conditioner were not operable. Due to their high call volume it my appointment was longer than I hoped for. But the house was vacant so I was not uncomfortable or inconvenienced. However, Custom Heating and Air Conditioning went in and found the problem - a switch was bad and the transformer blew. They worked on it until the repair was complete and the job was done right! I was very happy with the final results and recommend them. read more

This is the worst HVAC company in Denver I've called. Scheduled for an estimate, 3 TIMES, and no call no show all 3, given that I scheduled it 2 weeks in advance. The after hour line is unprofessional and poor customer service. I called the after-hour line to check on my appointment. One rep. said she doesn't work for that company, when I started asking another question, she became rude, cut me off, put me on hold, and hung up on me, intentionally (I know because she even said bye to me without answering my question). Recently our furnace went out and I called the number after hours on a Sunday. The owner called me back within an hour and came out and fixed the furnace under warranty. I wish I could rate them with no stars. The fireplace was cleaned as indicated in the deal we purchased for $55. The deal also included a safety inspection of the furnace. It was during the inspection of the furnace that the sales pitch started. The tech stated a new furnace was needed without removing the cover to look inside. The tech quoted a $4500 or more to replace the furnase. The tech pointed out all the issues with the furnace to make the sales pitch sound legitimate. Due to this quote, we called two other companies to inspect the furnace and get bids. These companies gave us completely different assessments stating the furnace was in good working order and only required minimal updates to make it more efficient. The assessment from Custom has made me question their ethics. I would not use nor recommend this company. read more

My furnace quit altogether. Called Custom Heating because I'd used them in the past and liked the technicians. I explained my situation to the operator who set up an appointment for later in the day. When nobody showed up, I called again---during their posted business hours. They'd switched off the phones and gone home. Left messages on the regular and also on the emergency lines. No reply from either. Ever. They left me huddling under blankets in sub-freezing, December weather. I finally checked into a hotel. I know this isn't going to send them into bankruptcy, but obviously I cancelled plans to purchase a new furnace and ducts. read more
