I went in to have my radio fixed, he told me my backup camera was bad and can replace it. They cut the wire to the old camera and put in a whole different camera above my license plate. Now my trunk wont stay shut unless I slam it and practically lay on it. The body shop I took it to said they messed up the seal on my trunk when they was in there. Plus the botton on my door handle for the locks no longer work either after they cut a wire. Go somewhere else if you dont want your vehicle messed up read more

I bought a Kenwood 10" panel and new radio they installed over a year ago but still under warranty. I took the car in because the microphone ceased working. After a short analysis they asked me to bring it back the next day which was the 4th of July! I had to drop it off because the unit was defective and had to be replaced. Fantastic work and fair prices. So why only three stars? They have a very unusual appointment policy. You drop off a vehicle at 10 am and they promise it will be done by seven. So what do you do for up to nine hours especially if you don't have someone to pick you up and bring you back? The mall is about a mile away as is barnes and nobles so if you don't mind a two mile round trip, you can hang out in the mall or bookstore but with covid all the seats are missing so plan on a lot of standing. read more

Bad service. For starters, they don't open until 10. So you have to leave work if you're a normal person, and get a ride... hope they will be done in time. No where to wait while waiting for a ride. Paid $529 for tint. Waffling on the back window needs to be redone. But oh, "if it peals off the defroster strips it's not our fault." So they mess up the tint, and if in replacing the messed up tint it damages the defrosting strip it's not their fault? That's truly ridiculous. I won't recommend this place to anyone, for anything, and will take my other vehicles elsewhere for services. read more

I cam here to get a wiring harness and it was extremely expensive for no reason. They typically should be around the $20 range but they charge $80 here. Do not go here, you can order all the same stuff online. Staff was friendly on the phone but rude in person. Not worth the money. read more

I was quoted three times over the phone $499-$599 at most walk in today to get told by that girl with the stank ass rude oh you're looking at over 1k ! wtf!!! then she gets snobbish walks back tells me let me grab the tech so he can explain it. tech asked me a few questions calls I dunno who to tell me ok if you want it done it will be 1,800$ but we have to send your part out for soldering run!!!! Black g We tried 2 different services from them. We had them install DVDs in the head rests. And every time we cut on the air conditioning the DVDs would cut out. A couple years later we tried again and had them install a remote starter. When you turn the remote starter on you're not able to unlock the doors. read more

I wanted to get remote start installed in my Mazda CX-5. I called Custom Sounds in Fairview Heights and asked about it, found out what I needed (just a plain, no frills remote start), got the quote for a Viper remote start system (which I thought was reasonable) and scheduled a day to bring it in. I showed up on the day of the appointment and after the salesman saw my key fob, he explained to me that if they install the remote start system that I asked about, the lock/unlock functions of my factory remote wouldn't work anymore and I'd have to use a physical key to unlock/lock my doors from then on. I said I didn't want that. He said there was another way they could do it that would integrate it directly with my factory key fob, but it would cost about $140 more. I said I wish I had known that when I made my appointment two weeks ago and then said no thank you and I left. About 30 minutes later, Adam Weber called and apologized and said he was sorry there was a miscommunication with the pricing and he wanted a happy customer so if I was still willing to give them my business, they would honor the original price they quoted me. I was good with that. I said sure and I set up an appointment for a couple weeks after that. I dropped off my car a couple weeks later and I got a call late in the evening and they said the remote start wasn't working and they believed it was because my battery was too low, so I'd have to get a new battery first. They were right. The battery was over 4 years old and had been starting pretty rough over the winter. So, I got a new battery and scheduled an appointment for the following Saturday. I think the techs there felt kind of bad that I'd had so many issues (not their fault though), so they got me in and out pretty quick that Saturday. One of the salesman, Adam Weber, took the time to explain the remote start system to me and answered the questions that I had. He's also the same one that I had been working with each time I came up there, so he was familiar with my situation. Long story short, Custom Sounds did a great job on my remote start system and I'm happy with how it turned out and how I was treated by the staff. I would definitely give them my business in the future. On a side note, they tinted my CX-5 and my Wife's Armada a few years ago and it turned out great. Very pleased with their work. read more

I have had a lot of work done on a lot of vehicles and have always been VERY impressed with the professionalism, quality, timeliness, and price. 2013 Ford Edge - Window Tinting, dash cam wiring 2006 Toyota Tundra - Alarm installation, new radio, backup camera, remote start 2014 Audi A5 - Window Tinting 2013 Audi S5 - Window Tinting, remote start installation*, dash cam wiring * The remote start installation was attempted a year before by some other installer and -- after two days with no results -- the previous installer gave up and returned the vehicle to me. But, when I took it into this location, Mace was confident he could do it and knew the technical requirements and hardware required. We scheduled the install and -- just as promised -- my coupe now has remote start! Sure, you need to show up when they open to get out the earliest...I recommend making an appointment for a specific date, then dropping it off for the day, if you can. Allows them to not be pressured by other customers' work. But, the location is close enough to the mall and associated restaurants to walk, if you need to wait a few hours for the vehicle. They call as soon as the vehicle is ready. The Front Desk staff is very knowledgeable, helpful, and provides great information on options, pricing, inter-compatability, etc. The Shop Staff does fantastic work. Every installation looks like it came from the factory that way. The new location looks great (and they provide wifi in the waiting room). read more

The worst customer service on any work I have ever had completed. I went in to get window tint put on the windows. When I got back, the wiring in the door panels was burnt up and the window switches wouldn't work. After notifying the customer service representative of the issue, he pulled the manager aside in the back room to discuss what the story was gonna be away from me. They came out and told me they didn't remove the door panel so it wasn't their fault. Something obviously happened, it worked fine when it went in the shop. This business will not take responsibility for their actions. They didn't even attempt to fix or rectify their screw up. I will never return to custom sounds. They treat their customers like trash. read more

We were having issues updating the firmware on the Kenwood system in our RV. The Kenwood site offered Custom Sounds as a service provider. I called and spoke with Austin. He advised the shop could help us out with the issue. He had the firmware update loaded on a thumbdrive when we arrived. It was, in fact, a tricky update. A second technician (I'm sorry, I didn't get your name) came out and offered his assistance. The techs got the update loaded and we were on our way. They were pleasant and most helpful. The staff, and the work these guys do is unbelievable! I got an automatic starter installed, and the Fairview heights location was the only custom sounds location that wasn't fully booked. If you're getting a automatic starter installed no matter the technician, it's takes all day. The staff at the Fairview heights location is the reason I would go back and recommend to friends and family anytime. Even though the techs were exhausted at the end of the day, they took the time to explain how to use the starter, what to do, and what not to do. Worst customer service ever to be possibly seen or heard of. First off it starts with even getting anything set up. You mine as well go in the actual store and deal with the three or four retards themselves because they're definitely to busy to answer phone calls twiddling there thumbs or got each other's dicks in there hands. Got a 2013 Ford Focus done before for a simple sub and amp all in one box kit and wires were everywhere and falling out of places they were poorly hooked up to. The sub would glitch out and not work at all for what ever reason sometimes and was never pushed to its highest settings it can go because of reasons like that to make it worse. This place sucks ass and I recommend anyone to come to me who has no knowledge in this business what so ever but I guarantee I could do half the work ten times better than these people do. Took my car to Custom Sounds for a remote start install. Met with manager Mike, who seemed to know nothing about the install process and how the remote start features would actually work (should have been a clue). He quoted me a price, and set an appointment for 3 weeks later. When I dropped off my car, Mike tried getting me to sign an invoice more than $100 over what he had quoted me. Install was supposed to only take one day, but when I called that evening it turned out my car wasn't done. Supposedly their "technician was troubleshooting some issues", and was working with Viper support to fix the issue. Car was promised to me by noon the following day. The following day I called at 11am, and they claimed they were still working on my car. I told them I had to have it back by 3. When I responded to pick up my vehicle they stated they couldn't get the remote start to work on my car, and suggested having one of their "top installers" from a different location try on a different day. After some research on local places, I took my car to a much more reputable installer (JML Audio). They installed a similar, but slightly more advanced system on my car with no problems. I feared I may end up getting charged for some extra labor, suspecting Custom Sounds may have been sloppy in the repair of the wires when they tried to do the install. To my surprise (not really), it turned out none of the wires in my car had ever been touched before. Custom Sounds had flat out lied about installing a system and then having problems getting it to work. I don't know if they had simply overbooked, or just didn't have a technician even skilled enough to attempt the install. Bottom line, you get what you pay for. JML Audio was significantly more expensive, but came with a level of customer service and product knowledge that Custom Sounds couldn't even come close to. read more

Dropped of new Tahoe for headrest DVD install and window tint at 10:00 a.m., still not done an hour and a half after closing. Completed DVDs, took raincheck on tint. On ride home, noticed that the headrests were wobbling around so I pulled up on them. They came right up/down, didn't lock, and were wrong post size. Needed a 14mm post, they installed 3/8th with a cheap adapter. When I went back, they told me that they would never function up/down and wouldn't lock and would remain loose. Very upset right now... when they earned my business, they showed me an "us" vs. "them" shadowbox and the work was very neat... this is absolutely unacceptable, but fine to their standards. I explained that it wouldn't work for my $60,000 Tahoe and they agreed to refund. Installer admitted to knowing this, but I was never called asking if it was okay. Lastly, leather around the main part of the seat is deformed now, looks like someone applied heat. I explained that the truck is 3 days old and they denied doing it. I see this one going to small claims court, please heed my warning before you take your vehicle here for custom sound/video work. Will post pictures and videos tomorrow. read more

Turned my car in to have the speakers replaced at 11am per my appointment. I was told when I made the appointment that it might take a few hours but should be done no later than 4pm. I was also told when I made the appointment that I was the first person on the books. I did some errands around the area as I live a fair drive away. Tried calling 3x to get an ETA on completion the phone was never answered. At 3pm I drove back to the store and saw that the car hadn't been moved. I had to search out an employee (several other customers were also waiting and hadn't seen anyone since they arrived) and was told, with unprofessional attitude, that they hadn't gotten to it yet because they had a problem car they were working on. The employee also told me they had said it would be ready by 6pm, which was not true. No courtesy call or apology for the delay. I got my keys back and left and will be sure to send anyone that needs car audio anywhere else but to Custom Sounds. read more

Schedule our tint appt a week in advance. Arrived at the store at 9:45 and waited outside until they opened. I believe we were first or second customers in. We were quoted a certain price due to being prior customers. Well the guy behind the counter told both my husband and I that fe didn't quote us that amount. He was obviously upset but proceeded to give us the price quoted. We confirmed what type of tint and number. The invoice stated the same. At 12:30 we get called asking what type of tint we wanted. I told him that I didn't know and that we had discussed what type at the store when I signed the work order. We drive to the store and they say they wanted to make sure because of the price discrepancy. I told him there was no price discrepancy we were quoted that amount. He said they wanted to make sure because they were trying to make sure we were getting the correct tint. I ask what time should we expect the car to be ready and they said they would call. Okay, a little annoyed that the price discrepancy keeps coming up. Again, the tint we wanted was on the invoice. It's 5pm we call to see if the car was ready. NOPE THEY HAD NOT STARTED. We were supposedly next. Really?! You had the car since 10:00 and you called me at 12:30 to confirm, yet it's 5pm and my car had not been touch. I told them to forget about tinting the car. That I was picking up my car. I got there and it didn't even phase them. What is their process? If I'm the first or second person that they help (meaning I dropped off my car) why is it 5:30 and my car isn't even touched. Bad customer service and complete disregard for the customer. Nightmare is being polite .. I took my brand new 2017 gmc Denali in to upgrade my sound system . They installed a box that was too large and my rear seat will not sit down causing it to rattle very very annoying. They broke the plastic inserts that go between my seats . I've literally took the truck to them 9th time today . I have a uninstall scheduled for April 4th 2017 .. it is hands down the most unaccountable buisiness I've ever dealt with all the way up to the regional mgr .. I suggest going anywhere other than there . I've acquired rental car fees , I've took off work multiple times , I've been talked to like I'm stupid, been ignored, pushed to the side .
