The property was lovely... however, there is a ridiculous amount of rules and the owner is constantly watching you on her Ring camera and emailing during your stay about what she doesn't like. We stayed at the Zen Gardens cabin (2 bedrooms, marketed for 2-4 people on their website) but is clearly too small to accommodate 4 people and she charges an additional $50 per person per night for the 'extra' 2 people. Additionally, while the driveway is clearly large enough to accommodate 2 vehicles, you can apparently only park one vehicle there. This information is "clearly stated" in the rules, but we missed it; however, this is no surprise considering the "rule book" is more like an encyclopedia. Bottom line, it made us feel like we had to walk on eggshells the entire time we were there. And who wants to be e-mailed by the owner while trying to have a relaxing weekend? We were polite guests, followed the litany of rules, and left the place clean. We gave her a 4/5 review on VRBO and she has banned us from staying at her properties again (even though she reviewed us as 5/5). Here is the message we received after leaving the review: "it is lovely accommodation that we offer and I appreciate that you acknowledge that. I called you out on your parking violation according to our policies which are clearly stated. I asked you (twice) to please park your second vehicle in the designated area. I bent our policies to allow you to bring your two friends. Furthermore I gave you a four hour early check in. You didn't park your second car in the area that I had requested. Then you leave me a four star review. No good deed goes on punished. You are not welcome to come back." Adding guests is a standard level of service to almost every guest staying in any accommodation... anywhere on planet earth... there is no bending over backwards here, particularly when you charge an additional $100 a night for two guests. I would say that the owner was not "bending policies" in this case. There are a ton of places to stay in Hocking Hills. And while this place was beautiful, it wasn't worth the hassle. Check out the BBB reviews as well, there are plenty of guests that share this opinion. Bottom line to the owner: Take the review as constructive criticism and use it to be better. The cabin was lovely, with fine attention to detail however the hot tub did not work 2 of the 3 days. Given the cost per night that is unacceptable. I stayed in the Zen Garden with friends in November 2021 & loved it so much, decided to book for the same time this year. D ue to some unforeseen circumstances, we had to cancel, but not after several emails from me asking al numerous questions on options. Terrible owner as they sell this as a reconnecting love cabin. They leave put coffee, robe & 4 pieces of chocolates. We have stayed at MANY Airbnb's with zero issues amd have owners leave us little surprises as extras. We were there to reconnect & Celebrate my birthday. We had a few small issues with the water freezing and not working as well as the door locked stopped working as we extended our stay because we enjoyed it. Once we got home we were charged $133 for a robe they kept and a small 4 pieces of chocolates and small bag of coffee. These items were not labeled clearly and I feel it's a gimmick to add more profits to the bottom line. We left the robe, chocolates & coffee but were still charged for it. I called and tried to work this out with the owner but all she wants to do is play the victim & blame game. My wife has lived with PTSD for a very long time. This host does not believe or support the idea that PTSD is a disability. After a near fatal incident my wife was kept on a life saving device called ECMO. Since this hospital visit- it is not diagnosed as CPTSD. Our family has struggled with this for years. We have to be very careful with where we stay and how we go about things- as CPTSD is very complex. My wife has had our dog Charlee task-trained- she is a service dog.. specifically trained to help her mitigate her disabilities, specific to her mental illnesses. She is not an emotional support dog, or pet. Emotional support dogs are not task trained and just provide comfort to their owners. She is not a therapy dog, because therapy dogs are trained specifically to help provide comfort to multiple people - you typically find them in hospitals or courtrooms. The Americans With Disabilities Act only recognizes two types of animals as services animals- dogs and miniature horses. Service animals are the only task-trained animals as well as the only animals that legally have public access rights. While most people know of guide dogs - which are wonderful and allow people who are blind to live independent lives -- they are not the only type of service dogs. Service dogs can help alleviate the effects of mobility impairments, seizure disorders, and mental illnesses such as post traumatic stress disorder, depression and anxiety disorders. Shortly after her time on the life saving medical equipment ECMO, she developed an extreme, irrational fear of going anywhere in public by myself. Eventually, at a routine visit, her psychiatrist brought up the possibility of her getting a service dog. Even though she was responding to treatment, her symptoms weren't improving, so a service dog was our last resort. Although Charlee wears her vest with visible patches and paper work identifying her as a service dog, people still don't seem to understand that she is considered medical equipment and what to do or not to do when seeing her. My wife is not obligated by law to have her medical equipment (Charlee) with her at all times. It is not necessary or required. She is also prescribed a medication. This medication she does not need to take all the time- which is one of the biggest reason's we have a service dog. She accompanies Shannon so she does not have to be medicated. We didn't make it more than 3 days at this woman's rental when she told us that my wife did not have a disability and that we had lied- because we left my dog at the rental. Which is within our right. I responded that Charlee is a service dog, so she was permitted on her property. I also showed her the registration prior to arriving, the first day. I told her denying Charlee and I access is illegal and an ADA violation. Service dogs are working dogs. Service dogs still bark. Not often, but she does. Especially as our service dog has gotten older. It is within our right to leave a service dog at the property we are renting. This is not against the law and this does not negate the training and certification that we have for her. The owner of the property says the opposite and says she's entitled to not have me in her property because the dog was left unattended. This is not right. Charlee is as important to us as a wheelchair for someone who is paralyzed. When you see such a person enter a store, you wouldn't dare ask them to provide proof they need their wheelchair, would you? I don't know why people see service dogs any differently, and quite frankly, it's very frustrating. It is pure discrimination to deny someone like me access to a public rental simply because my medical equipment happens to be a dog. This lady added a $1000 charge to our card and forced us to leave, at dark, during a snow storm with ice. DO NOT RENT FROM HER. read more

Overall we enjoyed our stay here. This is a very nice place to stay. I was looking for something more high end with interesting architecture and nice furniture/interiors. That's exactly what I got. I have not yet been able to stay at any of Cut Above's cabins. But there customer service is beyond amazing. My family has a wedding planned for mid September and we had our cabin canceled on us short notice. I reached out to them in a hail Mary attempt at securing a place for our family. I received a prompt response from Evelyn letting me know that they are unfortunately booked for our stay dates. What she did next was unbelievable. She actually sent messages out to their competitors to help find us lodging. What a top notch business and even better human! I couldn't believe she would use her time and resources to help us at zero financial gain for her or her company! If this is how they treat people who aren't staying with them, I can only imagine how amazing staying with them will be! They will forever be my family's go to cabin destination in Hocking Hills! Literal ice storm. Knocked out power in the whole county the cabins were located. So the cabins didn't have power. Was still expected to check-in. Contacted the host to get a refund or to reschedule for the next available weekend. Was told that there are no refunds, requested a phone call, was told no, and was told I could only reschedule on a weekday rather than a weekend trip, even though a weekend trip was booked to begin with. $777 down the drain to be treated with no professionalism, can't even get a phone call but can email with 1 minute. Level 3 roads and no power can't get a refund or reschedule for the next open weekend. Was told an offer for a weekday reschedule was a "gift" she was giving me. Ridiculous. See photos for how unprofessional she is. 0/5 stars Utterly Horrible. DO NOT GIVE THEM A PENNY because no matter the circumstances you will never see it again. read more

Very dishonest owner. Winter storm knocked out electricity to the cabin we had reserved, we were notified the morning we were supposed to check in that the electric would not be on until 11 pm that night , I suggested we wait till later in the day and see if electricity came back on. She immediately informed us that we could not get In that day at all. A short time passed and she contacted me and stated electricity would not be restored until Midnight the next day (the second day of our 2 day stay) she stated we should try claiming on vacation insurance, but we were completely able and willing to be there when we were supposed to be . Then at 9 o'clock the second night of my 2 night stay I get a message saying electricity is on and we can check in anytime, so now she is trying to make out like we chose not to come . At this point she is trying to keep my $1700 and still has a hold on my ccrd for a security deposit. She has informed me if I don't remove this (slander) she will not even offer me future days . As if anyone would want to stay somewhere with such a dishonest crook. She also tried to charge more per person than stated In The contract . Just an all around bad business to deal with read more

"It is hard to imagine that the pictures don't do it justice, but it is true." These cabins are really lovely and well taken care of. I have stayed a couple of times and the service is wonderful. Anything I need, if just text and before I can put the phone down, housekeeping is at my door! The view is just lovely. The gardens are meticulously cared for and there are many of them. The butterfly garden is over the top! I love the many clay sculptures by local artists that are incorporated. The lake is a few steps away and kayaks await when I am ready to use them. No appointment. No reservation. If I feel like it, I go down and grab a life jacket, and launch. The first time visiting, I didn't even leave the cabin. The waterfall at the edge of our deck was all I needed. I didn't want to leave the serene atmosphere of this fabulous property. 7 acres on Lake Logan. The fishing was good too. The firefly laser light show was such a surprise and wondrous! If I was made of money, I would be there once a month. It soothed my soul and rejuvenated my spirit. I could go on and on, but by now you get the picture! I think it is really sad that there are a couple of sour people leaving bad reviews here and not more of the happy people like me. Late review but we stayed at the Lake Logan Loft in October for a long weekend. The loft was gorgeous and impeccably clean. It was beautifully decorated and had a cool vintage feel. We come to Hocking 2 times a year and this was by far the most comfortable and the most beautiful place we've stayed. Nice and secluded and yet close to everything. Cut Above Cabins in Logan, OH wants to charge me more than the rate outlined in our legally binding rental agreement for extra guests. I have already paid a premium rate for a 3-night rental totaling $2,827.86 plus a $500 security deposit. I did not complain that the owner marketed the property as "luxury" yet we found many amenities broken or not as advertised. My family followed the rules and left the property in excellent condition. We exceeded expectations for checkout. These facts are not in dispute. I corresponded with the owner about our extra guests during our stay and fully expected to pay an additional fee according to the rental agreement. For one night, I had 4 extra adults and 2 children, youngest age 5. I expected to pay $25 per person per night for the persons over age 5. The owner, Evelyn Endersby, told me "policies can change at any time without notice" and there is 2 night minimum for extra guests. She calculated I owed another $300 + tax while I was expecting $125 + tax. When I politely pointed out that this is NOT what we both agreed to in the legally binding rental agreement and NOT what is printed in the Property Manual, Evelyn became defensive, condescending, and accused me of lying. I asked her to call me so we could speak in person, she refused. In actuality, she had lied to me about attempting to return my security deposit. She necessitated numerous calls to my credit card company and hours of time wasted dealing with this ridiculous issue. There are dozens of vacation rental companies in the Hocking Hills. Save yourself a big headache and choose any of them over Cut Above Cabins. read more
