We came here to celebrate a graduation from Ohio University. We didn't go with any appetizers but I started with the Cutlers Sangria. It had Pinot Nior, bourbon, grand Marnier, cranberry, brown sugar honey, lemon lime soda and vitamin C. Very tasty. I went with a Caesar Salad and I elected for the 7 oz Filet with garlic mashed and collard greens. The salad was ideal. Perfect portion. Dressing was spot on. The filet was cooked to perfection at medium. The mashed potatoes were divine. You can keep the collard greens! The were bitter and lacked any seasoning. stayed at the OU Inn last weekend and my son and I had dinner there. We dined early enough that it was not crowded, albeit by the time we left it was busy (Dad's weekend). The service was excellent. Very courteous and attentive. The ambiance was kind of little old school country club, which I actually liked. we at in the solarium which was a little on the cool side given all the windows and time of year, but nice ambiance. the food was very good. the sides were plentiful. we both had steaks. it was the best steak in the world - which is why just 4 stars), but it was cooked as ordered and still very flavorful. we will definitely go back next I visit. thank you Cutler's~ read more

We visited Cutlers for breakfast on a Sunday morning. We started off with an order of Beignets. By themselves, they were delicious, tasting like a funnel cake. They are served with dipping sauce which tasted like nothing more than room temperature Hersheys chocolate syrup. We split an order of chicken and waffles. The chicken was nothing more than frozen chicken tenders and the waffle wasn't that far from an Eggo waffle. I will say the coffee was good, but this was very disappointing. read more

I met friends here for dinner while in town. They got started without me, as I was coming late from a meeting. They shared an appetizer of freshly made tortilla chips with salsa and some sort of black bean dip. It was maybe better when it was fresh - I tried a chip or two and they weren't great (but I was also very late to this dinner). I was greeted by a server who immediately noticed my presence and took my drink order. There was an impressive cocktail list, including a few that made references to Ohio University and local culture; I opted for a glass of wine. My dinner, the Athens Block chicken, was tasty. The chicken was seasoned well and had lots of flavor. The mashed potatoes that came with it were very good. I subbed Brussels sprouts for the asparagus and was quite pleased with that decision. They were roasted and very good. We shared an order of the beignets for dessert. They were more like donut holes than the pillowy authentic beignets of New Orleans. I could have eaten the raspberry sauce that came with them with a spoon. Service was attentive and the food was all quite good. Prices were on the higher side for Athens, but that's consistent with the atmosphere and quality of food. Definitely recommend this for a nicer dinner while in town. read more

We have stayed at the Ohio University Inn on a couple different occasions and always look forward to breakfast at Cutler's. The Goetta Hash is our favorite, but we've enjoyed other options as well (various omelets, breakfast sandwich, breakfast bowl). We have eaten dinner there once and split the Chef's Board. The price was cheaper than we have paid for other charcuterie and cheese boards at other places and there was more than enough food for two people. I estimate that it would feed a family of 4 if you chose that as the line dinner option, and more if you had it as an appetizer. We could have used more bread and fruit options, but the 3 meats and 3 cheese were excellent. The service is always outstanding. We have enjoyed eat visit. read more

Worst food I have had in a long, long time. 'Started off with dirty glasses and salad plates. Bone-in' pork chop consisted of a small cut up piece of pork that was smaller than the size of a McDonald's quarter pounder. Brussel sprouts were burnt($28). I got an $11 margaritas that was about a 6 oz glass with no discernible alcohol. My wife got brazen beef that looked like canned meat on top of squash and mashed potato's. She didn't finish it. She said it looked like animal throw-up. Kids meal came with a Sprite that was flat and out of syrup. Outside patio was pleasant and server was nice. I do not recommend. read more

My wife and I came in after an OU football game. The bar was packed but there were open restaurant tables both indoors and outdoors. It's a great atmosphere with plenty of food and drink and an easy relaxed ambiance. Restaurant drinks include a good selection of cocktails and a reasonably priced wine list. I started with a mule and my wife had an old fashioned. Appetizers looked delicious although we each stuck to a very tasty Caesar salad. For an entree, my wife ordered a stuffed pepper that was a revelation. How did they fit all of these tasty bites into a pepper? I had penne with a light cream sauce and salmon - also very good. As we finished our meal and drinks, we watched the sun go down and the lights come on over the courtyard and pool. It was a nice ending to a lovely day. read more

Ordered a captain Morgan and coke it did not taste like captain Morgan or coke probably Pepsi but was acceptable Ordered a hamburger well done and onion rings . I was later informed they were out of onion rings so I ordered the hand cut fries Hand cut fried were good but very salty almost inedible Well done burger was well done almost to the point of crispy. Well done means cooked through not a protective hard outside shell. The quality of meat was very good and overall tasty Waiter talked me into dessert I had the apple crisp with ice cream. This restaurant has a very upscale appearance, menu, and customer base. The ambiance receives 5 stars, as does the overall cleanliness. The food is creative and fresh but there are some basic issues with execution. First, my husband ordered a medium rare burger and it was certainly well done. My daughter ordered cheddar and lettuce on her kids cheeseburger and received American cheese and no lettuce, and the ketchup was watered down (thin). In addition, both burgers lacked basic salt and pepper, but you could clearly see the patty was not a pre-frozen patty, rather it was fresh. I enjoyed my portabella sandwich, however, from reading the menu and considering flavors, I did expect a sweet balsamic reduction rather than a straight balsamic vinaigrette. Pairing the lemon oregano aoli (tart) with a straight balsamic (tart), made for a very tart sandwich. I was unable to taste the portabella or the oregano over the tartness of the sandwich. This would be well balanced with a sweet balsamic reduction. The side dish of fruit was fresh, and the portion sizes are huge! My son ordered the veggie burger which he stated was "moderate," I'm just happy when there are good vegetarian options, which this restaurant clearly has. Therefore, the food gets 1 star losing 4 for watered down ketchup, lack of seasoning, missing lettuce and cheddar cheese, and mediocre execution. The service receives only 2 stars for this visit and may not be representative of what is usual. I did notice, he was not the host but he met us at the door and sat us in his section. This section began to fill up for the lunch service while the remaining restaurant remained relatively empty. This is all fine and good if one can manage to keep up. We waited 45 minutes for our food, then an additional hour to receive our bill. He never returned to ask how our meal was and my husband ordered a refill on his drink which he got moments before our departure. My daughter never did get her lettuce and I sent my family out to the vehicle and stood at the front of the restaurant to retrieve our bill. I easily could have walked out and not been noticed at all, luckily for them I am far too honest for such things. This brings the overall rating to 3 stars. I feel there is a lot of room for improvement but nothing that would keep me from returning and giving them another go. I recommend giving them a try and I hope they will consider this feedback in improving. There is so much potential here. read more

One of the most abysmal dining experiences I've had in a very long time, it was comical by the end. Took 50 min to take our drink orders, appetizers came another hour later. Our server Riley (I never drop names but... this is worthy) was absolutely no where to be found ever, never came back to check in, never came back to take more drink orders, didn't clear our tables. We didn't get our meals until over TWO HOURS IN!! Not only that, a colleague of mine is HIGHLY allergic to any dairy. They brought him a brioche bun.... They double checked they didn't physically add butter to it, but the kitchen staff should know Brioche is known to be made very heavily with cream, milk and butter. So he ordered toast, but at this point we had no faith in receiving the toast without butter... the server comes out with toast and a huge side of butter with it. There was NO WAY he was trusting the toast wasn't grilled with butter. Over all the dinner took 3 hours!!! If I had been paying myself and not on the company dollar with a large team, I would have been walking out. read more

Great sweet potato fries, they have been salted with very coarse salt, which was an excellent combination of sweet and salty. I had the burger which had a fried egg on top, which was excellent. I have dined at Cutler's many times and had wonderful meals. Yesterday I met family who was traveling there for dinner. After looking at the menu and wanted to keep my budget in mind, I ordered a club sandwich and steak fries. All of my life, a club sandwich was a triple decker sandwich of ham, Turkey, bacon, lettuce and tomato cut into quarters. All of my life, steak fries are potato planks that are crispy outside and moist and tender inside with the width at least double the thickness. Why I received yesterday was neither. I got all the ingredients between two slices of bread cut in half. Don't get me wrong, the flavor was fine, but it wasn't the experience I've always had. The fries were regular fries. The same fries served with a kids chicken tender meal. Words matter. Yesterday I didn't receive anything I expected. read more

Huge and delicious. Actually more than I could handle. Plenty of crab meat. Breakfast sandwich was just ok. Croissant bacon and egg. Kind of dry. Don't recommend. This week my travels took me to Athens Ohio. A recommendation for Cutler's hit the mark. I had two excellent meals here; Cutler's is the restaurant gem tucked inside the Ohio University Inn. The wait staff was incredibly attentive. Give their Bloody Mary your attention- fabulous. I skipped the Vodka altogether but the mix by itself was uniformly amazing. It was evident the bartender had an excellent recipe. I may have had 2-3! The first night I had the incredible French Onion soup and the Asian Crab Cakes. I wasn't overly impressed with the Asian sweet and sour sauce but the crab cake was very tasty. The sauce was too sweet and o overwhelmed the subtle taste of the crab. Did I mention the French Onion soup?!? Excellent. The second visit I had the Caesar Salad and added grilled chicken to it. It was very tasty and unique as well. It was not the usual Parmesan but a delicious thick slice of aged imported cheese that gave the salad a creative twist instead of the old stand-by. I would have this again! read more

My staff and I went to Cutler's for a birthday lunch. I had never been here before but everyone was saying how great it was and I was really excited. I was not disappointed. The food came out quickly and the portions were huge. Cutler's is on the nicer side of Athens restaurants and the prices reflect that but it is nothing outrageous. Our server, River, was absolutely delightful. The whole table was talking about how pleasant he was and what a great waiter he was. I'm definitely coming back here. read more

We looked forward to our first ever visit to Cutlers for dinner. For the price I expected top notch all the way around. We were not offered for given a glass of water with our drinks. Later we noticed all other tables had water. My wife's brussel sprouts were burnt. Bread was not offered but upon request we were served what appeared to be biscuits from a Pillsbury tube. Horrible. Steaks were okay, nothing outstanding. Overall we spent over $200 for the two of us to have dinner. For that price I expect top notch all the way around but sadly this was far from top notch. read more

As a student, I would rarely venture off Court Street or the dining halls for dining options. However, on Easter, when the campus was borderline empty, my friend and I would head to Cutler's for a "fancy" Easter brunch. The Easter brunch buffet had so many selections that we feasted on four or five different servings. Stopped in to celebrate the birthday of someone in our party and really were glad that we did. Nice, upscale restaurant with excellent service. Their salads are absolutely wonderful! The homemade dressing is so tasty! We also tried the steak flat bread - very delicious and the steak had alot of flavor. Another member of our group had the scallops and loved it. We stayed at the Ohio University Inn and went to Cutler's which was just outside our room. For dinner my wife had seered scallops and I had the scallop and shrimp entree. They were both mouth watering good. The manager came by to ask how our dinner was and before he left he said he compted our appetizers. He most certainly didn't need to as the dinner before us was delicious and we told him so. Our server was an OU coed. She was better than good and made our dinner a five star affair!! Funny how we ate at the Diner on Court Street the next morning before the Bobcats went 6 - 0; she was our waitress there too. Overall, both restaurants were excellent for those times of day. Not a ton of options, maybe limited Covid menu?? There are still plenty of delicious options though, we were both able to find something we liked. Our waiter Dylan was great! Very helpful, personable, and on top of things. A little expensive...but if you don't mind paying a fair price for really good food, this is a great option. The decor is a very beautiful Ohio U green and white with high end details. Overall, very satisfied with the Restaurant and the service and would highly recommend it! Definitely the nicest restaurant in Athens! They always have a fantastic "catch of the day". The southern ravioli, BBQ pork shank, and the filet are all PHENOMENAL. The crispy Brussels sprouts are out of this world, and the apple crisp for dessert literally brings me to tears every time I eat it because it's so good. read more

After waiting about 45 minutes to be served our first course, a cheese plate, the evening went downhill from there. Short staffing and long wait times for subpar food made many in our group feel as though we would have had a better meal at the McDonald's next door. If Clutler's want to continue to have such lofty goals for their establishment they need to make sure they can actually achieve some of them. The whole evening was a disappointment. read more

I booked reservations for dinner here for my son's graduation because the menu online looked yummy, upscale and good (albeit pricey for Athens, OH). I booked for nine people, including my son's girlfriend and her family. When we got there, we were seated and *only then* told that their was no menu service available, only a buffet. I was disappointed, but OK with this. After all, a place that charges over *$20+ a beer* must be yummy, right? No such luck - if I knew what we were in for, I would have run out of there, sam-kinison-like-screaming, straight for the Buffalo Wild Wings in town! The buffet was an incredibly basic boring single table of grub on par with a Duff's Smorgasborg or Hometown buffet. The price per head? ***$40***!!!! It was on par for about a $15 buffet, if that. I figured "thank goodness unlimited soft drinks are included in that price." No such luck - read on. The service was abysmal. They brought our softdrinks in tiny little 8 oz glasses, then refused to even look at us when they were empty. We were just about done eating a half hour later before we finally were able flag down a waitress working another table to come refill our drinks. That must have not been enough humiliation for me - they tacked a *20%* auto-gratuity onto the bill, just to make sure I was sufficiently embarrassed in front of my son, his girlfriend, her family, and my wife. OK, enough of the bad -- time for the one shinning rave I have for this place - DESERT!! They had about the best desert buffet I have ever seen. A LOT of yummy cakes, pies, etc. etc. The german chocolate cake alone was enough to help me not barf when they brought the bill. And that's saying alot!! Seriously, outstanding desert buffet!! Lovely setting and best of service. Good wine selection. Had a soup of the day which was fresh. Well seasoned excellent. Ordered the Salmon entree. Looked good and was cooked properly. Disappointed in sauce. The maple glaze was allowed to taint the asparagus which ruined it. The mashed sweet potato was done perfectly but the two sweets - potato and maple glaze clashed horribly making the meal as a whole not work. Too bad it has potential. read more
