This is an example of what dealing with any contractor should be. After much research I had decided to install the Hardie siding. I wanted to use a contractor who was familiar with the product and installed to James Hardie criteria and specifications. I went to James Hardie's website and searched for contractors that are designated as Elite Preferred. ACAE popped up and had impeccable reviews. Starting with the sales person, Joe, he thoroughly explained what they would do for me. He was knowledgeable and personable. There was absolutely no pressure whatsoever. The bid was higher than the others but after researching (ACAE) and speaking with Joe, I was convinced they were the company for me. In this case, you really get what you pay for. I was introduced to Josh, the Project Manager. Once again, very knowledgeable and personable. Very easy to work with and communicated with me on a daily basis. When problems cropped up, he was always there to offer suggestions on how to proceed. His crew, led by Nikolay with Rosty and Eugene, did amazing work. The workmanship is impeccable; the crew was very organized and professional. They always made the worksite safe and clean; leaving everything spotless when they left at the end of the day. I can't emphasize enough the quality of their work. It was just beautiful. The paint crew, led by Vladimir, once again did unbelievable work; totally transforming the appearance of an already exquisite job. Although color decisions were ultimately mine, Vladimir was always willing to offer a suggestion as to which color to use on a particular area. (I had selected four colors for the primary on the house, secondary for the house, trim and the doors.) These individuals collectively transformed my house (a basic ranch) into a home that I am proud to show off. Over the last few years, I have known I needed to get a new roof, yet the funds weren't there. I had several roofing companies come out to my home for bids over a span of 4 years. 0ne company only did a satellite inspection of my roof, others came and inspected my attic, yet never went onto my roof, and 3 performed a full in person inspection in my attic and on my roof. I ended up choosing Roof and Nails for many reasons. David was my sales representative and first contact with this company, and he was very thorough in his inspection and in helping me understand all the steps this company would take in providing a great quality roof. Other companies also thoroughly explained the process, yet I feel Roof & Nails provides great quality, more protection, at an affordable rate. Through this entire process and before getting my new roof , I have watched how neighbors on both sides and across the street have received new roofs, yet they weren't given the superior quality I ended up getting and they paid the same or more for a 20 yr roof than my now 50 year roof. The material was dropped off on a Thursday and work started a few days later. At this point, Johnathan was my contact person for this project. Communication was great and he took care of everything. Johnathan has a professional crew who are great, hardworking and respectful. They also cleaned up very well afterwards. I have documented pictures of each step in putting together my roof. They even permanently added four OSHA compliant safety lifeline anchors for any future roof-related workers to use. None of my neighbors received these anchors with their new roofs. Last, yet not least, I feel I have come to know David and Johnathan better as individuals. They are good, honest, and down-to-earth family guys. The price was about right, they came out quickly and finished the job in about 4 days. The PM said everything was cleaned and the crew left. I went outside to check and found over 100 roofing nails scattered around my entire house. I used my own rolling magnet to get as many as I could, asked the PM to send a crew back and they did. After the 2nd pass by the crew, I took my magnet bar again and found another 20+ nails. I called the PM again, they sent someone again and I thought it was done. 3 months later I just stepped on a half inch roofing nail, and had to get a tetanus shot because of the laziness / low quality clean up.

It wasn't just that his price was fair, they had re-sided a co-worker's home ~11 years prior and their name was listed in his stack of references. I spoke to my co-worker and they STILL had good things to say about Gino and Lifetime. In addition, the company is Hardieplank Elite Preferred installer, meaning they were up to date on any installation best practices and that was important to me. Unlike all of the other bids, there was no pressure. Gino was easy to work with, extremely responsive, meticulous attention to detail. No overselling or "the sky is falling" behavior. No eye rolling or treating me like I was a PIB at the end when some little painting details needed extra attention. Was very respectful of me as a woman. No weirdness or disconnect from his team. Everyone was on the same page. And his team are direct employees of Lifetime ... for many multiple of years. This latter point spoke volumes to me. His employees were superlative workers who were VERY careful about picking up debris, daily check-ins, keeping an eye out for my dog's safety, etc. They were on time, in budget and did great work with everyone being super professional. Based on that experience, hired them to fix a gutter slope issue (full replacement) as well as replace a skylight which was leaking subsequent their roofing work (they did not take responsibility for it even though I think they should have minimally flagged it as an issue). Skylight and gutter replacement workmanship both had issues and had to be redone/reworked (they spotted the skylight issue, I spotted the gutter issues--thankfully it rained shortly after so I was able to spot the problems early). I paid them in April and called explicitly in July to verify the payment status when I spotted an irregularity in my account balance. I asked them to confirm that they had received the check, that it had cleared, and that the account was settled. They confirmed that it was, and I asked if they were sure and they said they were. Fast forward to October and now they've reached out to say that the account is no longer settled, the check was never deposited, and they're asking for payment again. At this point there is no budget for this, as I was assured this was resolved and cleared months ago. Really disappointed.
