Two stars because the only cashier working had on a dirty mask & even dirtier finger nails. I avoided him & the unsanitary situation he had going on by going through the self-checkout lane to make my purchase. Excellent location. This CVS has two floors. Every shelf is always well-stocked so it is usually pretty easy to find what you're looking for. Very close to home so I visit this location often. It is always very neat and clean in here. I can tell that the workers here care about the appearance of the shelves and displays. Customer service here is always excellent and if there is ever anything you need or you want help finding anything there is always someone who will assist you and they always make you feel like a valued customer. This is a decent CVS in a prime location. I was impressed with their selection even before I discovered they had even more downstairs, accessible by both stairs and an elevator. I was also pretty amazed to find - if I remember correctly - FIVE self-checkout machines here. That's unreal. But it was a bit chaotic in front of them, so much that the woman attending the machines was also acting as a traffic director getting people around the entrance and pointing you towards an available checkout machine. She was too preoccupied, or oblivious, to the fact that there were people loitering behind the entrance who were not in line, which caused a bit of confusion for the rest of us. Even worse, the machine I went to did not dispense any change. To her credit, this same employee sensed my frustration, asked me if everything was okay, and got me my change from a manned register. But it seems like this poor woman has too much to do - having to manage 5 machines, and direct people, and what happens when one of the machines needs attention, such as change or receipt paper? Good ideas here, just not executed as well as they could. read more

You can't beat the location, and for a physically small store, this CVS does a great job cramming in the merchandise. I like the pharmacy here, but it's not 24 hours. The pharmacy closes early enough that we've been forced to go to the CVS nearby on Boylston to fill scripts in the evening. When I first transferred my prescriptions to the CVS in Boston, I didn't yet have my drug card from my insurer. The pharmacists at this CVS said no problem, and did some investigating directly with my insurer to successfully and quickly fill the script on my medication plan. Fabulous service and very different from the other CVS, so I always try to come here when I am filling a script. The lines sometimes get jammed up, but they generally move pretty quickly. There's a homeless guy who sits outside this store and is my favorite. He sings his signature "Does anybody have any change" song and is super pleasant. Consider dropping him some coin when you go to this CVS. Do not consider trying to give him a booty dance like that one drunk chick I saw on Halloween. CVS is of course a huge chain, but this location is a bit different from many of the suburban locations I've been to. There are many self-checkout stations which is nice, but there is the option to have someone do it for you if you prefer that. They have two floors, and prescriptions are on the basement level. The one thing I have found remarkable is how friendly and helpful people are. I went in just before Valentine's Day for a card and one other quick thing and two different people on different floors offered a friendly greeting and asked if they could help with anything. I have to say that I really appreciate places that pay attention to customer service, so I'll definitely be back. read more

This is a decent CVS. On November 1st, 2008 (a very special day), I was in here buying pit-rub, and "Hold My Heart" by the Thompson Twins was on the radio. If that doesn't say existentialism salad, I don't know what does. On December 31, 2008 (another very special day), I got my passport photos taken, thus allowing me to go to Ireland with my girlfriend for a friend's wedding. The gal who took me mugshot was cool, professional, and no BS. As I was leaving, however, I complemented a dude who walked in on his cool leather jacket. "Nice jacket dude." "oh yeah, thanks man..." blah blah blah for a minute or so. One of their more decorated cashiers then asked suspiciously if I knew him. She gave me this look as if she had just caught me swiping Gilette Blades out of the ridiculously difficult to extract plastic holder/display cases. "Uh, yeah..." having never seen him before in my life, I uttered despondently. "Well, if you don't know him, then stop talking and move along." She acted as if I had been casing the joint. I was too shocked to come back with something clever, instead uttering something sardonic like, "Well, I don't know him, but I'm really really really really sorry that I ruined your day by complementing my new friend here on his duds." Truth is, I was walking around the store talking on the phone to my mom about how in love I was/am. So, they probably thought that he was my connection to take the place down (since he was a racial minority and all - disgusting). It was very odd. So many good experiences there, and then all of a sudden, I talk to a black guy in a white neighborhood after walking around for an hour, and I get a suspicious question. I should have said "Yes ma'am, I know him, and we're both coming back with a bunch of gays, Iraqis, Germans, and more black dudes to take hostages." Surreal. read more

I went into this CVS for the sole purpose of purchasing Preparation H. EWWW- no I don't have THAT sort of problem! Someone told me that old Hollywood stars used to put it under their eyes to get rid of their circles so I thought I'd give it a try. That all having been said, I was still absolutely mortified that I was going to have to walk up to the counter holding Preparation H. It took me about fifteen minutes to find it (any time someone else walked through the aisle, I had to dart around and become engrossed in school supplies or cat food). Finally, I found the Preparation H selection and was alarmed by the number of kinds- original, cooling, pain relief. I was having second thoughts. I approached the pharmacy counter and explained to the pharmacist that I did not indeed have any sort of embarrassing physical condition, I just wanted to try out an old beauty secret. The pharmacist said she'd heard of it and came out of the pharmacy to help me. She compared the ingredients on the various packages and helped me pick the hemorrhoid creme that was right for me. I thanked her and, lucky for me, the girl working behind the counter had heard the whole ordeal so it wasn't even traumatic to buy it. I did, however, spend the whole walk home thinking of where would be a good place to hide my Preparation H cream... EDIT: The ingredient in Preparation H that could shrink the area around the eyes is no longer put in the product. All that for nothing! read more

I live about a block from this CVS, and I must say that it is one of the best CVS stores I've seen in boston. First off, the location is great. RIght on Newbury. A block from the Pru. It's also about 3 blocks from another CVS on Boylston and Dartmouth. With so many CVSs around, you know it won't be crowded. The store is well organized, is very bright, and has clear signs that show where everything is. Back in the day, this CVS used to only have one level, but sometime recently they opened up the basement, doubling the amount of retail area!!! The extra space has really improved their selection. I've always experienced good service while here, and they have pharmacists open for consultations during the day. Also, Extra Bucks! You gotta love those. It's like free money! read more

The staff at this location is so incompetent. On their phones while customers are waiting to check out. They all (with the exception of the woman manager) are so unwilling to help. Danny, (one of the store managers I believe) is beyond rude and have a terrible attitude towards customers. I am not sure who would hired this man to work in customer service. I had a coupon emailed to me and although I showed the email to him he said he couldn't find it in my card to tough luck. I mean the physical coupon on the emailed was right in front of him. He just did not want to be bothered. His attitude was so absurd. Other CVSs that I have been to always have friendly and helpful managers and cashiers. read more

This CVS has spunk. -There's always someone either playing music or doing other interesting things outside. -It's relatively convenient to a Green Line stop (in this case, Copley). -It's 2 floors. Beyond that, not that exciting. I was able to get sodie pops here when I needed them, and it's a decent stop on Newbury Street when you're looking for gum or a bottled water, and don't want to overpay elsewhere on the street. read more

The first time I was here was mid December 2007. I got a Chapstick but I did not kiss a boy nor did I kiss a girl. Could it be because it wasn't cherry flavored? The opportunity was there though, it came and went. They have Mango Tango here for $8 (8.50 at Shaw's and $9 at Whole Foods) - best thing CVS has going for it. I returned over the weekend to ask the pharmacy to kindly transfer my prescription from the Fenway CVS to this one as I had no idea how to get to Fenway. "Where are you from?" she asked. Had my English regressed so much? Then I realized it was my apparent lack of geographic knowledge that elicited the inquiry. A very shameful habit I have - when I couldn't be bothered, I just simply say I don't know. I don't know how to get to Fenway is just my way of saying I couldn't be bothered. They obliged my request with ease. It was totally my bad that I showed up 10 min. before closing tonight and they had to do a few additional things for me. Even though my info sheet was clearly labeled: "Counsel: New Drug", I received no such benefit. Had they given me the counsel, I would probably have asked if I ought to stop taking Midol and I would have found out that the combination may cause a moderate interaction. Instead, like every other weirdo in the world, I had to find the info on the internet. read more

My boyfriend and I would come to this CVS location frequently. Pretty much every time we would use the self checkouts with a coupon or extra care card discount there was some hold up (the system wouldn't recognize it etc). No big deal - management was always nice about it and made sure all of the applicable discounts were honored. Not the last time though. My boyfriend had a 20% off coupon and the self check out wasn't excepting it and when the manager came over she started taking everything out of our bag (in front of everyone - what if we had bought embarrassing stuff? We didn't, but still!) and then when she couldn't figure out the problem just went with that they must have all been part of a promotion (like buy one get one at 50% off etc). We had several items (we did some extra shopping because of the discount we thought we had) and I am 100% positive most of them were not part of any promotion. For the sake of saving time for us and other customers (and we didn't feel like walking down each aisle with the manager to show her that the items were indeed regularly priced) we let her know we weren't happy, paid, and left. Maybe it seems like I have too much time on my hands for writing this review but I couldn't let it go - it started my saturday off on such a negative note and it was really poor customer service. read more

This is hands down the most disorganized pharmacies of all time! I live only a few blocks away, so I have been getting my prescriptions there for the convenience, but after the way I was treated yesterday, I am looking to change my pharmacy. My doctor sent me an e-mail saying he had faxed in a prescription for me. So to avoid the inevitable long wait it usually is, only to find out it wasn't filled, I called ahead to check. The girl that answered the phone asked me to spell my name 3 times and then put me on hold. She came back and said there was nothing for me there and then verified my name with the completely wrong spelling. After she finally figured out the spelling of my name, she confirmed there was no fax and told me to call my doctor's office to make sure they sent it. Next step: I called and they confirmed it had already been sent, but told me to wait a little while because they often take a long while to receive the faxes. I called back 1 hour later and no one picked the phone up! After like 30 rings. So I waited.... another 30 minutes. Then I called back. The girl who answered went through the same spiel with the spelling of my name, put me on hold, then came back only to say rudely, " Didn't you call here earlier? Well, it's not here, we don't have it." I tried to explain to her that I had already confirmed with my doctor's office and they said they had sent it hours ago. The only response I received was, "Well it's not here." I then tried to tell her to call the doctor's office herself to confirm the RX and asked her name. (she never gave it to me). By this time my doctor's office was closed by 2 minutes. She called back to let me know and hung the phone up with a loud bang in my ear. What did I do to deserve this? Try to plan ahead? I work in customer service, and I am sorry, no one should be getting paid to treat customers/patients this way. I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Nice CVS. Has an upstairs and a downstairs. Would highly recommend going just because it's shockingly spacious for the area it's located in (Newbury St is very expensive to have a business on, so most of the stores are tiny on the inside). Has pretty much everything you could need. Just wish it had more registers/self-check out machines because the lines can get pretty long. read more

This was the third CVS pharmacy I visited attempting to use my Medicare Part B for a flu shot. This was the first time using Medicare and unfortunately there was a computer glitch resulting in my claim constantly being rejected although my standing with the insurer was in good order. Fortunately for me I met pharmacist Matt S. who, unlike the earlier pharmacists, was willing to invest a substantial amount of time making phone calls and doing his utmost to try to unravel a technical problem. Thanks to Matt's perseverance, patience, and ability to understand what needed to be done I finally received my flu shot. If only all service providers were as professional and caring ! I can not believe that I am writing about a CVS store. Went to this location recently and left with what I needed very quickly. A very polite woman at the door asked what I was looking for, told her, found it, and paid for it with their self service system. Moving on my day and I was very happy when I left there. I (maybe some people do) don't go to CVS to shop around. I needed something, got it, and life continues. Who can ask for more! read more

Zero stars is more accurate. I've now had three experiences with the cvs on Newbury and they have managed to screw up without remorse each time. I will not be going back. Thank goodness I do not require life sustaining meds. Once they didn't fill a prescription at all so I asked them not to auto refill in the future because I planned to go to a different pharmacy. They auto refilled anyway and caused a big problem with my insurance, and then refused to cancel the prescription they filled incorrectly. The third time they weren't able to fill the prescription and said they would call it over to Fenway. When I finally got ahold of Fenway after three attempts and 20 mins on hold, Fenway said my prescription had never been transferred over and that even if it had, they couldn't fill it either. When I called Newbury back to complain, the pharmacist response was "I wasn't the person responsible for calling Fenway". Ok, great, and also not the point. Avoid cvs Newbury at all costs unless you have a lot of time and patience. Matt is the only person there who seems competent but you can't rely on one person to run a pharmacy. read more
