Closest drugstore and good for prescriptions. They are often out of products and the lines can be horrific. I know it isn't Pharmaca but wish they carried more natural products. How I miss the huge Longs (it will always be Longs in my mind not Rite Aid or CVS) that was at 51st and Broadway - open 24 hours and had a fabric section, clothing, housewares, hardware, automotive and tons of plants. This review is about the pharmacy. I am moving my business to another pharmacy. The vast majority of the cashiers who work in the pharmacy are "nice people." Similarly, I've generally had positive phone interactions with pharmacists when I've called in. There have been a few exceptions in both categories. What's at issue, however, are the ongoing inefficiencies and mistakes. The lines are often VERY long. They don't seem to anticipate peak hours and to staff accordingly. Today I was told I could pick up my prescription refill at 1:30 PM (2 PM at the latest). At 2 PM I called in, just to make sure. Of course, it was not ready - it would be at least another 20 minutes. I had structured my Sat. chores around what the times I'd originally been given, and now cannot pick up my medication until tomorrow. If this were an isolated incident, I would not be writing this review. However, these and similar breakdowns happen all the time. Like I said, I am moving my business to another pharmacy. read more

I was a regular shopper at CVS. Not since my car got broken into in their parking lot. Window was smashed in. With a broken window to replace and my medicine taken out of my car, shopping at CVS just got way too expensive for me. Shop at your own risk, and don't expect them to take any responsibility. I went to get some money orders at CVS for a certain amount which I clearly stated 4-5 times to the person behind the counter who was attending me because she asked 4-5 times how much it was that I needed. Once she was finalizing the money order she charged me 29 extra dollars for two money orders which was suppose to be $1.50 for each order. So you see the issue here? And so then I asked "How much were the money orders?" To which she responded $1.50 and the other worker next to her said $1.25. It felt like a scam, so I asked for the manager which I found out was the other worker next to her who had said $1.25. I looked at her badge which said Ruby and the original lady attending me didn't even have her badge. So beware of a worker there named Ruby, because they were clearly were trying to scam me since they couldn't even agree to get the money order charge right as I asked them. Point is they got nervous when I asked for the money orders and said it was a mistake charging me 29 extra dollars when it should've been 3. read more

This used to be my preferred CVS, in spite of the dangerous neighborhood. For years the staff was friendly, the shelves well-stocked, and customer service was A+. I gave it a glowing review here a few years ago. But in the past few months it has tanked. This downturn coincides with the arrival of a new manager from the now-closed Broadway store, which was by far the worst-run CVS in the city. It's nearly impossible to use coupons here now. Cashiers are not empowered to use their common sense, and managers have no concept of customer service. Simple purchases that are easy and quick at any other CVS become long, drawn-out experiences of shame and hostility. For example, today I tried to buy two bags of M&Ms, using two newspaper coupons. Cashier wouldn't accept the second one, not understanding the meaning of the printed requirement "One per purchase" (as opposed to "one per transaction"). The coupons were not expired, not duplicates, and the items perfectly matched the printed requirements and photo. Really, even a 16-year old can figure out this stuff, and they nearly always do at any other store. Also, some signage in front of the store was for sales that don't start until next week (the dates are clearly printed on the signs!), so the staff can expect many more unhappy customers at the registers this week. Last week there was an issue with a CVS coupon that the cashier would not accept for a item ADVERTISED IN THE WEEKLY CIRCULAR! The photo in the ad specifically showed that the item would be discounted with the CVS coupon, and the CVS in-store scanner printed the coupon just minutes before my attempted transaction. These were very small, simple purchases -- just one and two items -- nothing like an "extreme couponer" would try. Both times I left the Fruitvale store and made the identical purchases at another CVS (a different one each time). There was no fuss, no argument, no need even to have a conversation about the purchase. Just friendly service from people who are well-trained and reasonable. Unfortunately, the staff at the Fruitvale CVS seem completely unaware of what's in their company's weekly ads or on their shelves, they are unfamiliar with the CVS coupon policy and ignorant about coupon terminology in general, and unable to read simple instructions on the register screens. I like the remodel they did to the Longs Drugs, and, to echo Mari I., the CVS card and coupons are helpful! (Thanks for the info about the in-store machine). The last time I was there, I found there were some shelves they were in the process of stocking--probably not the case now, it's been a few weeks. This is the only CVS I go to! Maybe because it's so close to my home or because I feel like it's so homey. It's a fairly big store. I come here weekly, and look for sales. The workers here are always so friendly, and helpful. They also have a machine that can check products prices and PRINT coupons. A machine that print coupon how awesome is that. However, it may be helpful it there was more than one machine other than that I love this CVS. read more

If you shop here don't ask to use the bathroom. After waiting for someone to open the door for me the guy showed up and said he is going to go on break so he doesn't have to open the door for anyone and complained that they don't have enough people working. When I got inside the restroom it was disgusting. This store has horrible customer service. They also make you wait in line when they chat with each other and ignore the customers. read more

My main complaint with this pharmacy is that the check out line takes FOREVER. I do not understand how it could possibly take them so long to ring up just a couple customers. If you think you're going to dash in, grab some little item, and then dash out again, think again. In my experience they usually do have what I'm looking for, but most of the time I would rather just endure long fingernails, a stomach ache, a dirty sink, etc., then spend my afternoon standing in line. This is the only drugstore I have ever been to that has nice employees. they are very helpful and always happy to assist you.

I came to this pharmacy, to escape another CVS up the hill. But now I have to search again. They have messed up multiple prescriptions, until my Doctor got tired of having to call and explain things to them several times, and he begged me to find a different pharmacy. I must say I am irritated at the multiple trips it takes to fix the errors and the huge wait time, and the staff, who act like they are there as a favor to you, instead of being there to serve a customer. Let me explain how incompetent: One of my prescriptions required that I inject myself. After getting home and putting the medicine in the needle, I found out that both kinds of needles they gave me were a HUGE size, NOT the size you put in your body. Well you can't put the medicine back. I had to do it anyways. I went back and explained to the pharmacist, who could care less, and an apology never crossed her mind.
