It seemed a little junkie and tight staffed, but the cashiers were so nice and helpful. I will be back.

For example,Ms. Amara and Ms. Emily got me right in for my immunizations. Made me feel like a star unlike Joe at the store at Chestnut and 19 who got him a little bit of a managerial position and now picks and chooses who to treat as an equal and who to bum rush away like a peasant. The cashier's at this 39th Street store are also cordial to the point of quickly greeting you when you enter. Someone raised these workers to have common courtesy and good manners. Bravo

The location is pretty nice and they will usually have the thing you are looking for The staff here are nice and will sometimes help you if you are looking for something in particular, but it is nothing to write home about. The only downsides to this place would be the occasional begger asking you to buy something. An experience I had was when I walked into the CVS. A guy was asking people for a simple soap. Being a good person, i purchased a nice soap for 3 bucks and gave it to him before I paidfor the rest of my stuff. Low and behold, he was very displeased and creepily looked at me through the glass and began following me when I left. Luckily I outran im. This place is usually fine and you will typically have a good experience.

I used to go to the CVS (literally across the street from Aspire since they moved to Locust Street) and have never had a problem waiting in line with people buying groceries, toiletries, and birthday cards before getting my prescription and heading home. At CVS 15 minutes is the minimum wait time. My only misgiving about the new pharmacy is that it opens M-F at 9am closes at 6pm (3pm on Thursdays?), closed on the weekend, and also this winter has been closed on a couple heavy snow days. The business hours at the CVS at a bit better (8am-8pm) if you're leaving for work earlier than 9am or coming home later than 6pm. I'm hoping Aspire has longer hours or operation in the future. i can make due with their hours now, just not as easily as with CVS. The prices for the generic drugs I get at Aspire are bout the same as CVS with the prescription drug coverage, so there isn't any major distinction there, but it may also be different pricing for different types of drugs or pharmacy coverage options on health insurance plans. I'd be curious to hear what others have noticed about Rx drug prices in general from pharmacy to pharmacy. I like that Aspire, as a fledgling business and mom-and-pop shop amongst giant national pharmacies (read: CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreen's, etc.), is creating a local drug store that relies on local customers to support it. I like that my local pharmacist running her own business is taking care of University City/West Philly customers and not corporate executives in a distant office who will never see me or get to know me.

I've never had an issue with this pharmacy until I recently lost my insurance coverage. The…read moreemployees have all been very kind, but whomever is in charge of a discriminatory policy is the source of my complaint. I take ADHD medication and I was informed that this particular store's policy is that they do not allow you to purchase scheduled medication without insurance in order to reduce fraud. Despite the fact that my doctor electronically sends a script directly to them, and it is evident in my history I have been prescribed these medications for years, this is the logic that is being applied. It is already difficult enough with the DEA regulated shortage, access to this medication is a nightmare, I have been underdosed for months. This policy is adding a barrier to people who already need a medication with myriad of ironically time-consuming obstacles. The medication we need to function is being held hostage by hours of admin work to get the medication we need to assist us in efficiently functioning at our jobs. I understand this location is on a college campus and it feels like the assumption is that we are all comfortable financially and have adequate and accessible health care coverage, which is incredibly elitist and insensitive, and certainly not patient centered. I hope this store considers changing this policy so that people can get the medication they need, instead of discriminating against people who live in the community without the benefit of insurance coverage.

What really irritates me about this pharmacy is they are closed random times. They say they are closed the same time every day for lunch (which that alone is stupid...why can't they stagger their lunch schedules so they remain open the entire business day) I've been here at 1 pm and they were closed for lunch, and I've been here as late as 2:45 pm and they were still closed for lunch. They need to be more consistent. They are also closed random times because they claim their system is down. This happens so much I question if it's really true. The technicians seem to be standing around, talking on their phones, laughing and joking with one another, and not focusing on serving customers. Why they need 7 technicians (I counted) all standing around doing nothing at the same time boils down to one thing - poor management. I've worked in pharmacies. You don't need that many people behind the counter if everyone is doing their job, so something is obviously wrong. Recently, I had medications to pick up but I was very ill and had no one to get them for me. Their delivery is very expensive and takes forever, I've tried it. I realize they can't hold prescriptions forever and knew they would restock them. However, when I called to ask them to refill them, first they told me they wouldn't because I didn't pick them up the last time, so they would not fill them again, and they hung up on me. Then I called back to try and ask again if they would please refill them and I was told by another person that they were in fact refilling them, so the first person lied. I realize I was rude at that point but I was frustrated. Why can't you just refill prescriptions? Why do you have to punish me because I was unable to pick them up due to being sick? Instead, I was lectured on the phone and was told I was too old to be acting this way. Like I said, I realize I was not the easiest to talk to at that point but if they had just said they would refill them the first time and not given me a bunch of garbage (plus hanging up on me) I wouldn't have gotten frustrated to begin with. Their staff needs some serious training in customer service, and managerial skills to keep themselves open for all normal business hours. Yes, working in a pharmacy is not easy, but if you can't handle dealing with sick people who are frustrated because they can't get their medication maybe you should do something else. Unfortunately, what can you expect. Most of these technicians are uneducated, and work more barely over minimum wage. I actually am probably expecting too much out of them.
