Unfortunately I have to agree with the other reviewers - this CVS is horrible. I've never had issues with the service, but I generally use the self check-out anyway. The store itself is tiny and doesn't have a lot of the same products (or even sections) that most CVS stores have. Don't go here if you need to get a card for someone - instead try to get to the Eastern Market Flea Market on a weekend to buy cards from the vendor there (a lot cheaper and much better selection). This CVS is probably fine for emergencies...but I'd avoid it if possible. There's one further down on Pennsylvania (closer to Potomac Ave metro) that's a lot better. read more

I come here about once a week for random necessities and I dont understand why reviewers give this CVS such low ratings. Granted, I've never ordered prescriptions here, and I only moved to the area a month ago. The only issue I have is with the self check-out: when I drop in my coupon, the machine tends to not read it. No biggie as one of the employees come over and help me out. This CVS is on the smaller side and consequently has a smaller selection of goods. read more

I have been to many CVS pharmacies in my life and NEVER have I experienced such abysmal customer service at the pharmacy counter. Hopefully the pharmacy tech was just having a bad day.. but if i am treated the same way I was today the next time I go to pick up my prescription then I will be moving my business elsewhere. This is a horrible CVS. They need to make some major renovations to the store. The self checkout machines are also terrible.

This Pharmacy is awful . The Pharmacist act like you have no control of your medications and if you are taking a controlled drug you are a drug addict and the doctor doesn't know. So they have to call the doctor before they fill the prescription the doctor wrote to let the know the Pt is being prescribed the medicine that the doctor wrote. Does this make any sense? Then they say you should be taking something else. I have had Major depression/anxiety, panic disorder since I was 18, I'm 50 and the pharmacist asked me if I had tried other drugs like Zoloft. I said yes 14 years ago and it didn't work. I said the medication that I was now prescribed and had been working for the past 3 years why would I which medication. Armed with the knowledge that this doctor has properly treated me for 5 years the pharmacist needed to talk to him to make sure he knew what I should be taking or might want to try something else. Maybe I'm wrong but sounds like the pharmacist knows more than my Board Licensed Certified Psychiatrist. Standing out here at 7:09am. Store is not open. An employee casually walks by trying to avoid the crowd forming. As I approach her and asks if she will open the door. She informs me that the manager is on her way to the hospital to have a baby and that they have to wait for another manager to open the store. At this point, the crowd starts saying "this store never opens on time" and that "CVS always opens late." If that is the case, why post signs for a 7am start. For those of us who need to stop by the drugstore before going to work, this is a disservice. It is now 7:13am - the store is eerily silent. No activity. The crowd has disbanded. I will proceed to work without my needed sinus medicine. Hmmm...If this is how CVS views my time and my service, maybe it's time to find a Walgreens near me. read more

I don't normally write reviews about things like CVS, but since I came across this when looking for their phone number, I figured I would add my 2 cents. 1. I have no idea why people are taking issue with the neighborhood and safety-- this CVS is conveniently located by the metro and the neighborhood is very safe due to all the police around the Capitol 2. This store is tiny, and may not be as well stocked as some larger ones, but in general you can get what you need. 3. they renovated it earlier this year, so the layout is a bit better and it feels clean and nice. They also added several self-check-out stations which has really helped with the long lines. 4. There is still a bit of a wait at the Pharmacy after work, so I just time it to pick prescriptions up in the morning. read more

I had no problem with this CVS until I came in during holiday time. They've always had everything I needed until I realized they made me feel like an even lonelier Jew on Christmas. I went in to get Hanukkah gelt for a Secret Santa situation, no dice. I went in for Hanukkah candles, only darkness. I wanted to send something home to my worrying Jewish mother, but a Hanukkah card was nowhere to be found. I bet they don't even sell quality Israeli skin products like Ahava. This is absolutely the worst pharmacy I have ever had to use!!! They NEvER answer the telephone if you call with a question about your prescription or about anything else. I have waited numerous times until the phone ringing just quits, after 20 or more times. When you walk in to pick up your prescription hoping it will be ready more times than not they say they don't have it (even when your Dr has called it in) or they threw it in the wrong alphabetical cubby so they can't locate it. Walgreen's?? Are you listening? Any pharmacy chain could make a fortune by replacing this waste of space. read more

So, they take electronic prescriptions. Nothing special about that. But their system -- I was just told -- is on a timer. If they don't get the prescription filled in time, it disappears from the system and they do nothing with it. And then -- they don't do anything else. They don't call the doctor or the nurse, or notify anyone in any way that the prescription has simply disappeared. So when you go in to pick it up, all they tell you to do is to call your doctor and have it re-issued (and oh, by the way, they add, don't use the electronic system -- everything should be called in). Bottom line: avoid, unless you like lots of waiting, many calls to your doctor, and incompetence. Update (December 16, 2017): So I showed up today to fill another prescription. They did that. But when they ran my credit card, it was declined -- sort of. Their system printed off a slip requesting me to call the "Credit Authorization Center." I did so, but the system hung up on me. I then called my credit card issuer, who were flummoxed: the attempted charge had never even hit their system. So CVS is running some sort of pseudo-credit check, entirely outside the normal bank, credit card issuer, and VISA systems. The staff were incredibly rude about this, insisting that this was being done 'to protect my card.' That's not their job: it's the job of the bank. After I escalated to the manager, who was at least polite -- unlike his 'team,' who sat around smirking and being patronizing -- I finally got the charge through. I then wiped all my prescriptions from their system, and will never deal with them again. (Turns out they can't even stop the relentless phone calls you are bombarded with if you ever deal with CVS Pharmacy: you have to call some other office.) I can't help but think that this kind of 'credit check' happens because they are used to dealing with . . . how to put this: people who are not very well educated and are easily intimidated. But the neighborhood is changing. I also can't help but think that this kind of credit check is discriminatory and probably a violation of their contracts with the card issuers. In any case, I urge you to avoid this CVS. read more

Most of the time CVS stores are fairly homogenous. This one is notable for a few reasons: This is the first one I've ever been to that had a sign informing patrons that the police regularly stop by here, just for, uh, keeping the peace. Given the location right near the Eastern Market metro, I wouldn't say it's in a great neighborhood, but very far from the worst I've seen in DC, and in fact Eastern Market is not a place I'd have expected to see such a notice. No one working in the store, not a single person, could help me find caffeine pills. A few said they couldn't understand the way I was speaking. I realize I have a New York-accented way of speaking, but never before in the United States has anyone told me my accent was incomprehensible. The aisles are arranged in a very strange way; products are not where you'd expect them to be because of some unnatural separations. Hey, at least it made the experience more exciting than your typical CVS. Though I miss the ones in Las Vegas with liquor and slot machines. But I digress. I'm giving it 2 stars out of pity, because 1 seems too cruel. They're trying. On second thought, actually, they're not trying that hard. One star. read more

Yes, the store is small and crowded, and the line can be long (especially around 5-6, when everyone is trying to get some shopping done on the way home). The same can be said for most of the drugstores in the city. However, it's convenient and has always had what I need. I have never had a problem with feeling unsafe, but once again, it's a city. If you want a huge store with a big, safe parking lot, go to the suburbs. If you want to grab some shampoo and toilet paper on the way home from work, this is the place for it. read more

Definitely a sketchy feel to the place, with a variety of panhandlers inches from their door. I had a one-time RX called in today by my doctor for a controlled substance, something I've never taken before and won't need again (hopefully). I have no other prescriptions and therefore no prior experience here. I picked up the stapled baggy and returned home to read all pamphlets and count out dosage. They short-filled the script. I wasn't expecting to need every single pill, so that's not my concern. My worry is that this is endemic and that skimming of popular controlled substances is SOP for an employee/employees here. I'm not sure who to alert or if it's a big deal to anyone. I don't need the pills replaced, so I don't think it seems dishonest/shady on my end, as I'm not asking for anything, just trying to bring attention to something that seems probably not an innocent mistake (due to the nature of the RX they're supposed to take extra care for accuracy). Truly wish if yelp gives us an option of "negative stars" instead of one as the least. By far, this CVS is the WORST, employees are rude and make the one unwelcome in a bad way. Lazy and never helpful, the last couple times of me being there, I was given wrong information with terrible attitude. Quite literally the worst pharmacy I've ever patronized. The line moves extremely slowly. I've waited for 30 minutes to pick up a prescription. Twice in a row, despite receiving phone calls that said my prescription was ready, they did not have my prescription. The pharmacist told me to next time call back before I come in to make sure they "really" have my prescription. I don't think so! Both of those times they assured me they could get me my prescription ready in 10 minutes. It took close to an hour both times. I've never had a problem with any other CVS pharmacy before so I don't know what's up with this one. read more

I think there were about 5 employees in the store on the Sunday night at 9:30 pm that I last visited. (Note: store closes officially at 10:00.) One employee = vacuuming the store within inches of my feet as I looked for merchandise in the aisles. Three employees = shutting down the cash registers and cleaning. The fifth employee = actually helpful and available to unlock a high-value protected item for me (she is the one that gets the star). Number of checkout lines open = one out of five (self-checkout) THE STORE CLOSES AT 10:00, PEOPLE. THAT MEANS YOU WORK UNTIL 10:00 PM, AND CLEAN AFTER THE CUSTOMERS ARE GONE. I live within a few minutes' walking distance of this CVS. I am not going to bother to go anymore. The employees have an attitude problem, which clearly is relfected in the general customer service and operations of the store. read more

They've had me on file since 1990, with my current insurer since 1997, and suddenly in 2011 they have no idea about my insurance. That was the one part of the transaction that had gone smoothly in the past. In addition to the usual "I'm up here, you're down there, it will take me nine hours to put two pills in a bottle" pharmacist attitude, they also schedule pickups and then behave as though you're a walk-in. I've been to many a CVS in the District and am always soooo frustrated by the pharmacies, they always seem to be understaffed and just not flowing smoothly, but this has been by far the best CVS pharmacy experience. Courteous and professional staff in person and on the phone. They seem to be more staffed than some other CVS pharmacies and more organized. Other reviewers complained about the after work crowd, but I have gone around 7-7:30pm weeknights twice and there was no line the first time and just 1 person in front of me the other time. read more

As a longtime and loyal CVS customer, I can confidently state that this CVS store is the worst one ever. The store, itself, is tiny with limited product offerings compared to the typical CVS. In addition, the shelves are often lacking the very few items that the store does supposedly carry. Many of the products featured in the weekly bulletin are not even carried. One employee said it best -- "We don't carry that product. You have to go down the street to The Real CVS." It is a real disservice to the CVS brand to have such a poor store on a major intersection in a large metropolitan city. It should be re-branded as CVS Mini or CVS Express (although that still wouldn't address the fact that it fails to meet even the minimum standards it sets for itself by not adequately managing the small inventory). Generally, the staff isn't too helpful at answering questions (of which you will have many while shopping there) so I do not even bother interacting with store personnel any longer. During the summer, this one mother puts her children to work selling water/lemonade outside the CVS. You can hear the children yelling down the street as they try to entice people to their stand. One day they are selling to earn money for camp. It is always a different reason. The next day they are selling to earn money for school. I am all for children staying out of trouble and working to make ends meet. However, there are boundaries that should be respected. One should not setup shop on a major intersection in front a store and yell at the top of his/her lungs selling water/lemonade EVERY single day in the Summer. Furthermore, the shifting "reasons" for selling water/lemonade only raise further suspicion. I am surprised that CVS allows this family to run a commercial enterprise outside its front door every day during the summer when the family is selling a competing product. The family also does not have any sort of license to sell on the sidewalk. read more

The pharmacists here are excellent. They are overworked and understaffed, but they seem to treat everyone with respect and they know what they are doing. The store itself is a bit seedy. It can get very busy, with large, automatic doors constantly flapping open, and there are sometimes dicey characters in there or right outside. I go there because it is convenient for me and because the folks at the pharmacy are so thoughtful and competent. read more
