I dipped into the CVS on Prospect in morning before heading off to work this week. I needed a new digital thermometer and some cold/flu armaments. When I was checking out at the self-checkout kiosk, I kept getting an error message from the card reader and was getting frustrated. Fortunately, a woman at the front helped me out right away. I had seen her earlier when she was greeting customers entering the store. She was super quick with fixing the problem and was friendly with a good sense of humor. I was grateful she helped me out since I was short on time. 5-stars for great customer service. I've been to this store a number of times, and the aisles are always stocked and neat. I haven't tried the pharmacy section because I normally go to a different CVS location, but I may switch over since this one has a drive-thru (though some of the Yelp reviews about the pharmacy are a little eye brow raising). For a long time, I hesitated going to this CVS because it was built on the former site of Pal's Cabin, a West Orange landmark that was torn down for the chain store, but I guess enough time has passed. they are the worst. thry are understaffed in the pharmacy which means, apparently that they can be super effing rude. do not ever call if you need something because you will die on the phone first. i currently have been on hold for 40 minutes AFTER i spoke to the pharmacist about how they incorrectly filled out my prescription, the same prescription i have been getting for 7 years. I GET 28 days at a time, they gave me 14 days and charged me the same price. Now I have to get in my car and go back there so that can "reprocess" it to give me correct amount. Gas is $6 a gallon . You are gonna wait 30 minutes in the drive thru - just go in. she is too busy telling me about how she will print out why they did it wrong. they have a romantic relationship with paper at this place. stop printing out everything and just be better. I sometimes stop by this CVS when I go to whole foods and want to use my discounts for purchases. Staff here are more friendly than other West Orange CVS's. I never have any issues here. While I've always been partial to the old CVS that used to be down the street, I can positively say that I've come around to enjoying this location. If you've been a West Orange resident or have frequented the town for awhile, the CVS that used to be on Eagle Rock Ave was a nostalgic landmark of sorts (A quick shoutout to the old Pizza Hut that was turned into a bank). The old CVS was admittedly dated and not the best kept location you'd ever go to but it got the job done. Once Pal's Cabin got torn down and the new CVS was built, I believe there was a decent amount of initial resentment that they'd build two in town. Fast forward to today with the old CVS gone and now the real question is, how does this CVS compare? THE EXPERIENCE This review will be focused on the store portion and not the pharmacy since I don't have prescriptions sent here. The first thing you'll notice when you enter is how huge and spacious this CVS location is. The interior is modern, sleek, and well-maintained. The item departments are organized and brightly labeled so you won't have any issues finding what you are looking for. The employees I've encountered have been friendly and commonly greet me with a smile whenever I enter. Whenever I have to pick something up for an occasion such as a card or get a quick snack, this CVS has all the things I need to get the job done. There are constant sales for various items but some sell out quicker than others (IE. Easter candy). USEFUL INFO -Depending on what direction you come from, the entrance can be a little tricky. If you are having trouble with exiting the premises I'd recommend going from the backside via Woodhull Ave. -Conveniently located near arguably one of the best sushi spots in NJ, a large shopping plaza, and I-280. -Pharmacy drive-thru available -Ample parking so it's not a concern -Useful place to get passport photos done FINAL THOUGHTS This CVS location is perfectly adequate to take care of your normal daily needs whether it be picking up aspirin or buying milk before heading home. The only drawback is that the location isn't open for 24 hours and I believe it's more than capable of doing so. While I miss the old CVS on Eagle Rock Ave for nostalgic reasons, this location holds up well and I look forward to coming back again. read more

Terrible customer service at the pharmacy. I only went to this location because it was the closest one to where I live. Now, I just moved out of state. My new pharmacy tried calling them several times to transfer my prescriptions and the ONE time they picked up, evidently they were rude to my new pharmacist and did not permit the transfer. They just refilled one of my prescriptions, which I cannot pick up because, again, I am out of state. I called to ask them to return it because it means I won't be able to refill it where I now live. 30 minutes on hold, nobody answered. Called the next day, the person who answered the phone said "We don't return prescriptions" and promptly hung up. Avoid like the plague. read more

This is a tough review to write. The people I've interacted with at the Prospect Avenue CVS location have always been professional and friendly, and there is nothing wrong with the store itself, but sadly it is where I've experienced the problems I mention here, so they get the 2-star rating, but to be clear, it's my belief that the problems are fundamentally caused by the failures of CVS' corporate management. Quite simply, the pharmacy staff is overwhelmed. There are too few pharmacy employees for the number of customers that they're required to service. As a result, mistakes are being made. One recent example of a potentially severe problem involved the mislabeling of my medications. I have numerous prescriptions and I recently discovered the labels on two of my medications had been swapped. Fortunately, both prescriptions where mine and I know what my pills look like, so I was able to simply pour each into a cup and replace each into the correct bottle. Also, on more than one occasion I've discovered that I'd been shorted on the number of pills in a bottle. Several of my medications require me take to take them twice a day, which makes for a bottle with 60 pills (or 180 pills in 3 bottles, for a 3-month supply). It's not practical to count all your pills when you pick them up, but when you reach the end of the month and you're short 3 days of pills, that's when you find out. In another situation (which has also occurred more than once) the pharmacy has run short on a supply of a medicine and gave me what they had in stock. The bottle label did reflect the shortfall of the dosage, but nobody brought it to my attention. Once again, I didn't discover the shortage until I unexpectedly ran out of pills early. I believe these issues are occurring because the pharmacy is both short-staffed and working under tremendous pressure. This is something they are powerless to correct on a local level. Maybe CVS needs to tell customers that prescription renewals will take an extra day, but whatever the solution is, these are serious problems that could lead to dire consequences and CVS' corporate management needs to do better. read more

My doctor called in a prescription for antibiotics for my pneumonia around 6:45 pm, I called around 7:10, nothing, called again, waited 15 mins before pharmacy picked up,nothing but they told me there were calls they didn't answer and would check so call back in 30, I called back in 45 mins, still nothing, a different pharmacist answered and said she would check and call back, nothing. I had to get in the car and go there, I thought it would be crowded and busy, no one there but 3 workers behind the counter, again they asked for my info, gets my name wrong. Nope nothing there, I had to call my doctor there, handed the phone to the pharmacist to get my prescription by 9, btw, I had 101.2 temp, no I won't be using their pharmacy again read more

CVS stores were once a wonderful alternative to the mom & pop drug store. They had everything in one store, and customer service was outstanding. Today, they have lost that status. On Thursday, our Dr. faxed in a script. When we went to pick it up, it was non-existent. She texted me a copy of the script and I noticed she had mis-spelled the last name. Wouldn't you think they would have called her to try to match her patient to this script? Last night, she faxed in a new one, with the correct name, sending me a text copy again as proof. Today, I spent 27 minutes and then 21 minutes, hanging on, waiting for them to answer -- which never happened. My husband finally went there, only to find that there is no prescription again. Not only are they rude, they are totally inept. We're moving our prescriptions to a new pharmacy. Cannot tolerate this anymore! read more

Absolutely the worst pharmacy ever. 1st you will sit on hold for hours and no one will ever answer the phone. 2nd, they NEVER have anything in stock, they will tell you they have it , then when you pick up, it's magically unavailable. My mother gets texts for when her inhaler (ya know to help her breathe) is ready, and 3 DIFFERENT times she has gone to get it, and they have nothing. Why are you telling people you have it if you don't? Get it together! 2x I have had something sent there, that is promised on one day, then you go to get it and poof, they have nothing. Auto refills without authorization. They kept texting to set up for auto refills but I never replied because I was interested. It seems that they decided on their one!!!! Friday I got a message that I had a prescription ready, I had to call to cancel and say that I will refill it when I'm ready. I still have not finished the ones I have. This CVS is by far the best that I have ever visited. Upon walking in, I was greeted by someone who enthusiastically asked if I needed help finding anything. (I didn't but was surprised) The pharmacy staff was nice, personable, and empathetic. I came here after visiting AFC Doctors Express Urgent Care next door, who had called in my prescription. The pharmacist explained that it would be another 10 minutes for my prescription and had apologized for the delay. While I was waiting, I did some additional shopping. They had a decent selection of grocery and cosmetics items. They even had some fresh flowers for Easter that smelled lovely, which the pharmacists commented on. I am not sure when this store opened but it looks new. The aisles are wide and it looks spotless. I am not generally a fan of CVS because their drug prices are slightly higher than those of Walgreen's. However, if I am in the area, I would return to this location. The staff is incredibly nice and the parking is great. read more

Prepaid for 2 Rx's on 1/30. Went to pick up on 2/2 (3 days later). After waiting a long time for them to find it, they came back to the drive-up window stating they put it back, since it wasn't picked up, and I would need to have it filled again. WHAT?? I didn't have time to wait. I tried calling later with nobody ever answering the phone during regular hours. I tried to request it to be filled again from the app but couldn't because the app recognized it as being prepaid and filled. Nothing but a hassle. Didn't used to be like this. When I went back to get it filled they recognized two other Rx's that I had filled (but they didn't realize those were being shipped to my home). So I sat for over 15 min at the drive-up window while they looked for medication that was being shipped. They could have easily checked with me and I would have told them. Not sure why their system doesn't show they were being shipped. Even the app said they were avail for pickup there. Very disorganized. Im considering transferring my dads' Rx's once I look into costs. read more

I have transferred all of my prescriptions over to a new pharmacy because this location is HORRIBLE. The lines inside and outside are always long, sometimes up to a 40 minute wait. No one ever answers the phone or when someone does answer, they hang up. Letting the store managers and/or associates know is useless. They claim that they always have these complaints, but there is nothing that they can do about them. They direct you to a 1-800 number, but again, useless. I have called 3 times and never had a call back. Basically, they do not care. I remember a few months back when I complained to the pharmacist Vivek, I asked him if he had seen the bad reviews for this location. He did and doesn't care. Now my doctor's office accidentally called in my medications to CVS. I have been trying since yesterday to get someone on the phone to tell them to put the medications back because my new pharmacy needs to fill them. Still not answering the phones and I have called the store 5 times and they are not even helping me. This is HORRIBLE and completely disgusting service. 1. It's so difficult to get in and out from parking lot. 2. When CVS on Eagle Rock closed , my prescription was switched to Prospect Ave. I talked to the pharmacists that I'm on certain medications that I need every month to please have it in stock. When I go each month either they don't have it in stock or don't have a 30 day supply. 3. I've asked them to please put in my profile not to give me child proof tops. I'm not quite sure to make of this location. Yes they have a drive through pharmacy. Yes the location is quite spacious. Yes parking is ample. Sure the location is pretty convenient, on the corner of a major intersection and near a major highway. However, aside from parking, it's not all that much of an upgrade from the location 3/4 a mile up the road on Eagle Rock Ave. Also, why build a brand new facility like this if it's not going to be a 24 hour location??? read more

I love this CVS. It is large, spacious and bright! I like the angular architect of the store as well. The cashiers are always pleasant and friendly. I have always got what I needed from the store as well. The parking lot has plenty of spaces so navigating in and out is a breeze. I have nothing negative to say about the store. I would give this CVS pharmacy a zero rating if I could. Took my son for a Flu shot; pharmacy staff incorrectly insisted that it was not covered by my plan. Paid for Flu shot; arrived home called insurance carrier who confirmed that it was covered and that CVS should reimburse me and submit to insurance. My receipts are emailed but this time an email was not sent to me; I have the statement indicating I paid. Pharmacy refused to reimburse me because I had no itemized receipt which CVS failed to provide. Always get a paper receipt (although not environmentally friendly) don't trust that they will email an itemized receipt. read more

Prices are overly inflated, resulting in a sale costing what the item would cost at normal price anywhere else.. So, I'm trying to coupon and use sales as a time to shop for the things I want & need. As a makeup junkie I went to CVS having a Extra care card & hearing about the Extra Bucks & points you can earn. I went in specifically to purchase 4 items from Wet & Wild Cosmetics. This is a very reasonable brand. One item was $5.99 & the other 3 $3.99 on the W&W website... not checking prices & being sidetracked by one of the employees (who was very friendly and helpful) I didn't double check the price of the items therefore I was thinking of asking the guy who checked me out (Marquis -a young 20 something year old who was on his CELL PHONE at the REGISTER) if CVS price matches.... after paying for my items I wonder why was my bill $17.21??? To buy the items online (minus shipping) is $17.96...... SO WHERE IS THE SALE? these are times where we all need to pinch pennies, gather coupons and other accept paying full price. We women keep these businesses in business, we are the lifeline and the blood of consumerism.... my goal this week is to return to a local CVS and ask for a price match or return my items and write off CVS as a whole.... but first I will check out the W&W display at Rite Aid.... If you're looking to get a flu shot quickly and easily (as they advertise), you might not want to come here. I attempted to get a flu shot and the process was incredibly slow, and I ended up leaving without one. After waiting 25+ minutes, I no longer felt confident nor comfortable about getting a flu shot from one of the pharmacists at CVS (they were clearly busy, and lacked interest in helping me). read more

This is by far the worst customer service I have experienced in a pharmacy. Every time I pick a prescription up, "Updated Allergy Info Needed" is stamped on the slip, and the rx tech asks if I'm allergic to anything. Every time I tell them I'm not allergic to medication but I have seasonal allergies, AND THEY NEVER ENTER IT INTO THE SYSTEM. So I'm asked again the next time. The pharmacy staff will continually call, asking you to refill prescriptions, even after you tell them you don't need it, even after you tell them to stop calling you, even after you complain to management. I have opted out of all calls, text messages, auto-refills, etc., and they still continue to call on a constant basis trying to get me to refill things I don't need. They've even called about prescriptions that I've transferred out of the store, because I'm sick of their phone calls. If you get a prescription filled at this store, be prepared to be stalked and harassed by the pharmacy staff for the rest of eternity. I'm transferring all of my prescriptions to Rite Aid and never stepping foot inside this place again. read more

I have been so disappointed in the prescription services provided by this pharmacy. I used the CVS in West Caldwell for 8 years without a complaint. When I moved to West Orange I began using this location and in the past year they have not gotten my prescription refills correct even one time despite several conversations with both staff and pharmacists. read more

I'm giving it 2 stars because the people who work here are friendly enough. Aside from that, my review won't go any higher because I realized something tonight. I was against them putting in another CVS in West Orange at this location because it's .81 miles away from the CVS down the road.Why not have that space filled with something that ISN'T down the street already? In my eyes, it was a waste because we already had our CVS needs addressed with the one already there, and because I would feel bad if the bigger, better CVS forced the smaller one to shut their doors. Bigger? Yes. Better? Not in the one area they needed to be. Tonight, I had a couple things I needed and thought I would appreciate this new CVS for the one thing it had going for it that the other one didn't: being open 24 hours. I didn't even wonder if they were because it would have been ludicrous to have 2 CVS stores with the exact same hours, less than a mile from each other. However, I pulled into the parking lot at 10:08 pm and sure enough: CLOSED. Now I am officially infuriated and confused as to why the hell we have 2 of the exact same thing, less than a mile from each other. It doesn't offer the one thing we could have used here, which was to be open 24 hours. Brilliant. I understand the store employees have no control over the hours, but that is little solace when it has now been confirmed for me that this huge eyesore on the corner is totally unneeded. I was scammed today at this store in mid-day by a young college aged female. She approached me asking for bus fare to NYC because she had her purse stolen with all her money, phone and ID's. She claimed she was a Montclair State University student that needed to get back home after losing her purse. She told me tales about how she was rejected off the bus, etc. There was more to her tale but, I should have known better that I was being scammed. Watch out. The store was filled with many warm friendly employees busily stocking shelves at the time this happen to me. Obviously this scam artist was a pro. Be careful! read more
