Note: This review is only for the service, space, and cocktails, which were all great. Food will have to be on my next visit! I only get to New Bern a few times a year to visit family, so seeing the open garage door type facade on a sunny Saturday afternoon surprised me! My friend and I peeked in and we're welcomed by a friendly host (or server) and we decided to come back later that night. So glad we did! We got lucky and our group all got seats at the bar on a Saturday night, which was excellent. The bartenders helped us right away and provided a snazzy cocktail list. (Maybe a little on the pricey side for the area, but not outrageous, and worth it.) The liquor options are good, and while the beer list wasn't long it covered all the bases. The space is stylish. I wish I had that kind of eye for decor! And the service was great. Our bartenders were very attentive and friendly, and were happy to give us suggestions about our drinks and the town. Great environment, great selection of food. Tried the Dry Aged Strip, Crème Brûlée. All were really good and I was coming into the restaurant with high expectations and they were met and even exceeded. I couldn't imagine what they could do if their restaurant was bigger and more mainstream but definitely one of the few hidden gems in New Bern. Service was amazing! read more

Well, this is my first ever Yelp review and unfortunately not a good one. Cypress Hall has been a destination restaurant for a number of years and I have had many an enjoyable dinner there. The last one not so much. The food and wait staff were fine, but the hostess service was not what is expected from a "fine dining" establishment. Started when I was questioning how one could reserve a booth. I know they are high demand but thought there would be a protocol to try and make the reservation. What ensued was much confusion and ambiguity, so I let it go. We were seated and in the back "quiet room" with a table of 6 or 8 adults and two very young children (babies). Ok, I get that parents should be able to get out with their young ones, I really do, but when you are ready for a nice dinner and can not hold a conversation over the high volume, high frequency of a disgruntled baby you would hope the parents might have made a different choice. So returned to the hostess stand to request a move and though accommodated was treated with what I would call simmering contemp. I would hope that I was not viewed as a tottering old fool by the quite young hostess, but that feeling was palatable. Although moderately expensive, I had always considered a value for the all around ambience. Sorry Cypress Hall but the bloom is definitely off the rose. read more

The food here is so amazing. Reminds us of places back home in a big city. Only down side is that on our non alcoholic drinks the waiter kept giving him or asking him for refills and my husband said yes because he kept offering. At the end of the dinner just the beverages were 20$ because apparently they are 5$ each and he didn't even let us know. Most places that that charge, let people know. Definitely just a little mistake but other than that it was great! read more

It's been a few years since we first vIsited New Bern and had the most amazing pimento cheese dip from a farm to table restaurant in the quaint downtown area. Following the massive hurricane that struck the area, we thought we'd never find that dip we've thought about for 2 years! Then we stumbled on Cypress Hall to find out it is a new establishment owned by the same couple! Our trip was made from then on! The facility itself was modern with exposed bricks, dark wood and sleek decor. The open atmosphere and fresh air is exactly what we wanted- being from Iowa, you don't get much of that in December! Food was too DIE for. Unique twists on rustic recipes! Of course we had the pimento cheese dip that came in a cast iron pan bubbling hot served with homemade crackling pork rinds. I had a twist on chicken & waffles- breaded chicken breast with a side of maple bourbon bread pudding the small green salad was a nice fresh accompaniment to the heaviness of the others. read more

My husband and I ordered take out from Cypress Hall this evening. Unfortunately we didn't notice until we got home, but there was a mix up with our order. I contacted the restaurant and spoke with Cat. Cat went above and beyond in making sure we received the correct items within a timely manner. We ordered the octopus, 10oz hanger steak and cider braised pork cheeks. Each item was perfectly cooked. This has been the best take out meals we've had since the pandemic started. For New Bern, this place deserves a Michelin star in comparison to all the other restaurants. However, I wasn't as impressed with the food as I thought I'd be given the price. Ordered two pizzas -- a pepperoni and the tuna tartare -- and wasn't wowed by either of them. The pepperoni pizza was good, better than average for sure, but not stunning. The tuna tartare had the potential to be way better than it was, but there was simply way too much sriracha aioli (glorified spicy mayo) on it. However, the raw tuna here is probably the best quality fish I've had so far in New Bern, even with the multitude of sushi restaurants I've tried. For dessert, we got an affogato and the strawberry cake. These two items were probably the highlights of our meal, even though they were still completely overpriced for their size (especially the affogato). The affogato was delicious, and the strawberry cake was light & had a subtle sweetness to it. In terms of service, it was spectacular. Our server, Tyler, was attentive and approachable. He definitely made our experience that much more enjoyable. The restaurant itself was quite upscale for New Bern, and had a wonderful atmosphere. Definitely the perfect place to have a dinner date at. Regarding covid-19, this restaurant is taking more precautions than I've seen any other take so far: keeping capacity limited, spaced out tables, plexiglass barriers between booths, masked employees, evident sanitization between customers, and constant fresh air from the restaurant's open front & fans. Overall, I'd say I'd come back to try other things on the menu, even with the pricing, and I'd definitely recommend those who haven't gone to give it a shot! read more

This is my new favorite place. From the hostess' to the bartenders and servers we were treated like royalty. If you like martinis this is the place to get one. last Saturday, my boyfriend and I had dinner at Cypress Hall. The staff was professional and was able to provide good food recommendations. The drink options were great and offered at a reasonable price but the food just didn't wow me. That salmon dish was extremely creamy and heavy, it was also served with a 6oz, thin, salmon filet for $28. I personally think the dish was overpriced and lacked an adequate amount of seasoning. The side order of fries was great, they were cooked perfectly and tasted like a straight curly fry. The Pork Cheek dish was good but could have really stood out id they had seasoned their grits. Cypress Hall did however swipe me off my feet with their strawberry cake! The cake was very moist, not too sweet, and loaded with fresh cut strawberries, and the icing was very light but not overwhelmingly sweet. Though Cypress Hall is not my favorite restaurant in New Bern, I would still recommend trying them out for yourself, especially their dessert! read more

Cypress Hall, on Middle St, in downtown New Bern is an absolutely great place for lunch or dinner. There are so many wonderful dishes that it is hard to choose sometimes. Best pizza in town; best hamburger in town; I love the fish and chips, the fish varies and is always fresh and local; if you like beets, and I know not everyone does, but Cypress Hall has a roasted beets dish that you have got to try. The beets make a great appetizer, too; I do that sometimes. See you there. read more

This is our favorite place to go. We have a standing reservation here weekly. We love this place! The food is delicious, prepared by a chef who obviously has a passion for culinary arts. The food here is created with care. We shared an arugula salad and it was so flavorful. The dressing did not overpower the green. Hubby had the grilled octopus small plates and was so tender. Our 2nd visit was just as good as our 1st (June 2020). Absolutely nothing to complain about. They were fairly busy for a Wednesday evening and seated us without a reservation quickly. Service and food were excellent again! And being from a state with much stricter Covid restrictions it was very nice to see all of the precautions in place (masks and gloves worn by all staff and tables spaced out). So my wife and I decided to try this place out for dinner. We walked in and the place looked great. We asked for a table and we were asked if we had a reservation. My wife and I looked at each other because it was 4:45PM and there were 6 people at the bar and NO ONE sitting at any tables. We're told the waitress no we didn't and she did they didn't have any open tables. I looked at my wife and then under my breath asked if I am missing something. I asked the hostess about how there is no one eating and that there is no availability. She then stared she could seat us at a table but it was reserved and would we be finished by 7? 7PM???? Seriously??!!! That is TWO hours away, who takes that long to eat? So of course we said yes we obviously would be. Then she says that we would have to wait being seated because she was waiting for new menus top be printed. Now at this point we have been inside for almost 20 minutes willing to give this restaurant our money. This came to a quick end when another couple walked in and they had reservations and were obviously seated with no problems even with menus. How is this possible when the place was empty and we were just told that she had to wait for new menus? So let me take wild guess on the blow off......I had just got off work and I grabbed the wife because I was hungry. So maybe they thought I looked scummy and couldn't afford the prices? Or maybe I just didn't fit their classier decor? My wife looked nice as usual so I don't get it. My wife said forget it and we walked out, we had the best seafood dinner at MJ's Raw Bar & Grill!!! Cypress Hall definitely impressed me. Me and my boyfriend were staying at "The Aerie" nearby and it was a 2 minute walk from our hotel. We got there around 9:15 and got sat immediately with reservations. They also texted us around 8pm and said if we wanted we would get seated earlier. The ambience was beautiful and for a Saturday night, it was very smart of them to open up the street and set tables out there for extra space. The interior was busy and lively and the staff was very attentive and friendly. Our waitress took great care of us and our food came out in perfect timing. The octopus was delicious and the mixture between the potatoes and the red sauce was great. Our drinks were super savory and decent portioned for the price. I do prefer my Margherita pizza to be a bit thinner on the crust side but overall it was good- it's just personal preference. I definitely enjoyed my time here and plan on coming back sometime this week for a drink at the bar and some mussels. read more

I'd been here once before as part of a girl's day and had appetizers and wine. Great experience, so I wanted to go back with my husband. We were early for our reservations and they were able to happily accommodate. We ordered the Pimento Cheese and pork rinds (amazing!) and the smoked deviled eggs (not a fan). Drinks were prompt and as expected. Service was great. 3 stars is really for the entrees. Scallops were ok, Fish was ok. Not a fan of the Crispy smashed potatoes. read more

Stopped in for a quick bite before flying out. Service was good and food came out quickly. Don't recall the full name of the pizza as it was their special off menu. It had no sauce but a couple unique cheeses along with aged prosciutto and two different type of melons. My memory is not serving me well with the ingredients names but having it explained to me by the server made it an easy choice and it was well worth it. Cypress Hall is a relatively new addition to New Bern. The ambiance is Soho-Loft, with a beautiful bar. Management is trying very hard to make it a high-end eatery. The menu is eclectic. Memaw's strawberry cake is to die for! The paella... not so much. read more

Okay...so my first meal at Cypress Hall was extremely diss disappointing. They brought the wrong food and it took them 40 minutes to get the correct meal to me. Then it was just whatever. Food was not even close to worth the price tag. Not sure why so many say it is great because mine was not and it taking 40 minutes to get a piece of salmon was ridiculous. #epicfail read more

Beautiful spot. We reserved a spot for 6:30, got in almost immediately and was served drinks on the spot. My brother and I both got Shirley temples that were super good. Quick service at first. We got our appetizers, the octopus, & okra super quick. The octopus was amazing, came with two different sauces each time we ordered it. It was best with the basil sauce though. The menu was a little tricky, everything SOUNDED good but I had heard the salmon and most of everything was a little overrated. I went with the safest bet and got the brisket burger. Everyone at my table who didnt get a burger or steak, thought their meal was mediocre. Drinks were amazing, everyone loved them. My dad got the scallops with shrimps and had a horrible fish to rice ratio. So much rice for only three pieces of fish and scallops--okay food, not worth the OVERWHELMING price.
