My goodness! What to say about this surprising gem. We're planning to move to the area and decided to find somewhere to eat downtown. When we drove by, we weren't sure what to expect. There's a large screened in porch for those who want outside dining without the bugs. There's counter service and plenty of seating, including a back dining room. The furniture is a bit dated and worn, but the food more than makes up for any aesthetics. My fish was buttery and fried to perfection. The breading was well-seasoned, and the tartar was creamy. The Cajun grill platter was huge and flavorful. The tuna came out a perfect medium, and the shrimp were the star. My man finished his plate in 7 minutes while raving about the remoulade. Vast improvement on my last visit here! It's been a couple of years since I was here, but the service and food have improved immensely. All 3 of us enjoyed what we ordered and it came out hot and fresh. The fish and chips were delicious, the burger was cooked perfectly and my chicken gyro was really good with fresh veggies and great crinkle fries on the side, the chicken was also marinated well. It's super casual inside, with local artwork for sale on the walls. Local hangout with a nice little bar . Parking can be tricky, but you can find some around the building. There are not many places to eat in Oriental so I'm glad this one has gotten so much better! read more

We have eaten here a couple times. We have had fish and shrimp. Both were very good. Service is good.

Ordered a quesadilla last night. It looked like canned chicken and velveta cheese glopped together. It was so disgusting the waitress offered to take it off our bill. I did not want her to do that and I left a nice tip as she had no control of what came out of the kitchen. Fish and chips are safe. Avoid the quesadilla if you don't want to ruin your experience. read more

We were told to check on the menus (whiteboard) that would be the specials of the day ! We were asked how many in the party! Told to sit where we pleased ! It took about 20 minutes before we received our silver wear and told the servicer would be with us shortly 20 minutes later poof a server appeared ! Took another 15 minutes before we got our drinks ! Then another 30 minutes before food was served! I had a salad my hubby had fish and chips ! Salad was alright he said his fish was good ! This was our second time there same experience the first time so we thought we give it another chance ! Living in oriental there is limited restaurants ! So choices are limited! Will we be back to M&M probably not ! Management need to be aware of the situation of the staff and possibly retraining is required to be aware of the staff lack of communication! read more

M&M's offers a great menu featuring salads, seafood, and steaks, all reasonably priced. The staff is consistently friendly and attentive. The restaurant has a full bar with a good beer selection where you can also order food from the full menu. The bar area tends to attract a politically engaged MAGA crowd and has Fox news programming on the TVs. The bar is often lively for those who enjoy that atmosphere and believe that Climate change is a hoax and that the election of 2020 was stolen. read more

A good experience here has about the same lifespan as two scoops of ice cream on a hot summer day! They were one of the few dining options in town that was close enough to walk to and offered a menu of decent variety, unfortunately what appeared to be a great dining experience quickly went straight south as the dinner rush picked up and any organization went right out the window. We were fortunate enough to enjoy our entrees within a reasonable amount of time, entrees that were large enough to not warrant any need for sides, especially when you're thinking of pairing a side of potatoes to one of their quesadillas. The quesadilla's were just that, ordinary quesadilla's and a bit overly cooked. Unfortunately, it took well over 45 minutes to pay the check and collect the dessert to go. The servers are also bussing tables and working in the kitchen, while the hostess / server is the only person who can process a check. Unfortunately, the servers seem to forget to drop off the bills to the hostess while she is at the register. I wouldn't even call it controlled chaos, just chaos, and I would not return. We love M&Ms! The food is consistently good. Our favorites are the ribs, the burgers, shrimp & grits and the fish & chips. And the St. Patrick's Day Buffett! The other stuff is good too. James is the best. Greatest service ever on New Year's Eve right before the running of the dragon. Very casual ambience, family oriented and really relaxed. I loved this place-we docked up just around the corner and had a wonderfully nice time. The food was excellent with such special service. Our waitress was genuinely kind to our semi-rambunctious preteens who needed constant tea refills. I highly recommend the shrimp (I had it sautéed) and our waitress told us her Dad actually caught it on his boat- which my kids thought was super cool. The whole experience gave me such sentimental vibes-like my summer beach vacations growing up. Would have stopped again coming back through but had to race home due to weather. Unfortunately for the small community of Oriental limited choices have kept this place viable as a food option. We arrived a party of six at 5:23 for 5:30 reservations . Our food wouldn't arrive for nearly an hour. The wine glasses utilized by the three ladies all looked dirty and almost like they hadn't been washed. The room we were seated in had all the ambiance of a VFW bingo hall. The thick cut bologna sandwich which I must admit I kinda ordered as a joke, was probably the best item served at the table. 10 years ago this was a pretty decent place to eat. The last two years we stayed at the Marina Inn and ate at least one meal during the music festival at M & M's. . Unless the reviews become noticeably better. . We will avoid this once popular spot next year. We are at Toucans grill yesterday and I'd recommend you try it first. read more

I was in town for a friends' wedding and was told this place has pretty good food. I found it to be less than average. I ordered the buffalo shrimp and the Atlantic salmon entree to go. I asked when it would be ready for pick up, and she said it would be 40 minutes. Wow! I arrived to pick up my food in 45 minutes and my food still wasn't ready. When paying for the food, the hostess printed the receipt and immediately started writing in the tip section. When I asked her what she was doing, she stated the gratuity was required for take out. I have a problem paying extra where service isn't required. More importantly, there was NO communication when I ordered the food for pick up that gratuity was going to be required. The Salmon didn't have enough flavor & potatoes were under cooked. I would not recommend this place, and will not be returning. read more

The shrimp wrap fell far short. Shrimp, which they said came from "right there" pointing to a shrimp plant were tiny popcorn size at best and chewy. For us it was a one and done. My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful seafood dinner at M&M's Cafe in Oriental, NC. We had heard some nice things about this place so it was time for us to check it out. I started out having a cup of roasted pepper tomato bisque, which was very tasty. Then, my wife ordered the fried shrimp with creamed spinach and redskin potato bliss. I chose the coconut shrimp with the redskin potato bliss and some Cole slaw. The food was great! Served hot and very flavorful. The Cole slaw was a bit tart for my taste but it was good. We each got the homemade coconut cream pie for dessert and that was fabulous! You could easily tell that the coconut cream and the meringue were homemade as was the whipped cream. A very enjoyable dinner in a quaint restaurant with a wraparound porch too. We certainly will return! read more

The food was okay. The service was subpar. We got our salad after our meal was served. There appeared to be two waitresses for the entire restaurant. It took forever to get our food, no drink refills, and then forever to get our check. We drove over an hour thinking it would be a nice dinner. This was not the case. It was more like a diner. It was too expensive for what we received. We could have definitely gone to a higher end restaurant for what this cost and had a much nicer experience and meal. read more

My wife and I just got to spend a week in Oriental. We found M & M's when another nearby restaurant was closing earlier then we thought. I have to say that was a lucky thing for us. The food was fantastic, enough so that we ate there three times in a week. I can't say enough about how good the food was. But as good as the food is, for me the memorable part will be Glenn and his personality he makes everyone feel welcome and like he has known them forever, people like him are rare and it was a pleasure to meet him. For anyone that goes here be sure to try the carrot cake you will not regret it. When we get to return to Oriental we will without a doubt eat here again. Well, for a town that doesn't have many options we tried M&M for lunch after a long absence due the past experience. It was worse than the previous time and we will not be back. The food was disappointing. The corn chowder was not eatable. It was overpowered by what we think was nutmeg. We ordered two soft-shell crab sandwiches which were the smallest we've ever seen (about the size of a chicken strip) The batter was so thick that you really couldn't taste whether it was crab or cod. The shrimp basket my wife order was cold and the fries were uncooked. Everything was below average. Our waitress forgot to put in a drink order and after 15 minutes of waiting we told her to cancel it and we would stick with water. The fried shrimp was over cooked and rubbery and the fried flounder was extremely fishy smelling and tasting. I have eaten a ton of fish in over 50 years and this was not good. We had dirty plates and when I asked to have them replaced, the waitress lokked at me like I was crazy and then I spected the plates. She was very flustered the entire evening. We watched her interacting with multiple tables and nothing looks to be going well. To top it off, I went to pay the bill (got tired of waiting for the waitress) the gentlemen acted like I needed to wait for our waitress. He finally ended up taking the CC and let us get out. When she brought my plate out she literally had her finger on my food! Disgusting and gross!!! Was told "no manager" and the lady I spoke with did not seem to care or even apologize... The pandemic has hit restaurants everywhere; it's affected service, kitchen and overall management. Eaten here for over 14 years, will be waiting a bit longer before we return. The worst slaw I have ever eaten and I LOVE SLAW. The highlight were the hushpuppies, GET A PLATE OF THOSE. And, don't ever leave your cash/tip on the table inside the leather packet that delivered your bill. No matter how safe you think your local eatery is, there's a chance it won't be handled properly. We read some of the negative reviews and wondered what we would find... well, we found friendly people, great shrimp, a delicious smoked salmon salad and really great pasta with shrimp and scallops.
