Sitting in my car, I already felt the anxiety building because dental visits can be nerve-racking for me. When I checked my appointment again, I realized I was actually scheduled at Fair Lakes Family Dentistry, so I drove over hoping this experience would be different. The moment I walked in, the beautiful lobby and welcoming staff immediately shifted the tone. A.D., the dental assistant, called me back and introduced herself with such warmth that my guard began to lower. Our conversation felt natural and calming, which helped me relax before the appointment even began. Then I met Corey, the dental hygienist. When he spoke, I noticed his accent and asked where he was from. When he said Memphis, I smiled instantly--because I'm from Memphis too, born and raised. That small moment of connection turned what could have been a stressful appointment into something much more human. Corey listened as I shared my past dental concerns and experiences. His empathy, patience, and attentiveness made me feel like a person, not just a patient. As a counselor, I deeply value when professionals create a space where someone feels seen, heard, and respected. Corey did exactly that. Even during the procedure, everything was handled with gentle care and reassurance. Instead of feeling tense the entire time like I normally do at the dentist, I actually felt safe. The E.F."estimated fee" is dropped to $30.00. Amazon sells it for $15.80 with out insurance! The 3M PerioMed U.C.F. is $354, E.F. (what I paid) is $30. Again Amazon's price with tax, is $15.14! So I shelled out $62.48 (tax included). That's a $31.54 markup! There are other areas where I am not satisfied with some charges billed. Do the overcharges merit the otherwise satisfactory services performed? Doubtful, I shall soon see. But I hope some adjustments will be made to a more reasonable total.

Their staff is always friendly, they are affordable, and they have an amazing dentist, Dr Rehman. Recently, a dental repair quickly became a stressful event when what I thought would be a new crown became the first tooth I've had pulled. Dr Rehman provided a warm and peaceful atmosphere that served to quickly calm my nerves. He did a really great job managing my pain during the procedure to remove the remainder of my top rear molar. Granted, my pain tolerance is very high, but the moment it started to break through he was on top of it. He uses a technique of tapping between the eyebrows when injecting the lidocaine that is blissfully distracting. His communication throughout was helpful, and even when my roots started to be a concern (huge root pointing in the wrong direction), he kept his patience intact and persevered. (I'll add a pic as the first comment.) Thank you Dr. Rehman for demonstrating empathy and desire to ensure I was comfortable. Not a lot of dentist have that ability and it really can't be taught.

I am here to tell you, as a parent who watched both my son and daughter-in-law go through this, that he is none of those things. My son has exceptional teeth. His previous dentist complimented his enamel and natural color regularly; he takes outstanding care of them. He came to this dentist simply because two old fillings were bothering him. Those fillings had lasted 20 years without issue. He left this office in more pain than when he walked in, pain that lasted for weeks. He was also handed a treatment plan totaling close to several thousand dollars worth of work. When he brought that paperwork to our former dentist, he was told only one item on the entire list was actually necessary, and it didn't involve any drilling. It was simply a wisdom tooth extraction. The rest was unnecessary work that would have cost my son thousands of dollars out of pocket. My daughter-in-law's experience was even worse. He performed an incomplete root canal on her and then cemented a permanent crown over it. She has been in excruciating pain for weeks. When our former dentist reviewed the work, he was genuinely shocked by what he saw. The idea of going to a dentist is to relieve pain, not to leave patients in worse condition than they arrived. Getting any resolution has been nearly impossible. He takes days to return calls, closes his office without notice, and when my son and daughter-in-law finally managed to meet with him, they were treated with complete disrespect rather than any accountability or compassion. These are kind, reasonable people who simply did not want to be ignored after being failed. One more thing worth noting: my son observed almost entirely different staff members nearly every visit over the course of two years. High staff turnover is one of the clearest red flags in any medical practice. It tells you something about how that office is run. You are vulnerable when you sit in a dentist's chair. You are in pain. You deserve kindness, honesty, and competent care. Based on what my family experienced, this office offers none of those things. Please protect your dental health and look elsewhere.
