The view is breathtaking and you can hear the soft sound of the waves in the background. PICTURES: The bridal party took pictures on the beach with the guests behind them looking over the balcony. I'm sure the bride and groom also got some gorgeous wedding photos out there too. Note if you are in the bridal party to come prepared with shoes you don't mind getting sand in. I noticed the men brought sneakers and the girls were barefoot. WHAT TO WEAR I was unsure what to wear to a beach wedding. The wedding I attended went from day to night. I wore a pink cocktail dress and that was perfect. Everyone at the wedding I attended wore colored clothing. I would stay away from black. And heels are fine because you are on a patio, not the actual beach. I recommend some nice open toe shoes with heels. I suggest wearing sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses (for a daytime wedding) to protect against the sun. I also suggest bringing a sweater as it can get chilly by the beach and also in the reception hall when they put on the air conditioning. Just note that there isn't really a place to store extra stuff except in the bridal room so pack lightly. RECEPTION The reception is inside in an intimate room with beautiful white tables, chandeliers, and a beautiful white draped backdrop with lights. The venue is small and intimate. It feels like being in someone's private home in Malibu. You have the place all to yourself. LOCATION This venue is deep into Malibu. If you are coming from the Westside of Los Angeles you will pass Pepperdine and Zuma Beach to get here. OTHER This place got an award from "2018 Best of Weddings" award from The Knot. The venue works best for smaller weddings. The one I attended had approximately 50 people and that was the perfect size for this venue.

The best thing abot Sunset Restaurant, of course, is the stunning view of the beach and crashing surf from the tables closest to the windows. But, the food and service are better than they need to be given the setting. Started with the raw oysters and the grilled octopus. Both were very good. Octopus was cooked perfectly and the oysters were so fresh and briny. Yum! Mains were the seafood linguine, the rock cod, and the wild salmon. Not a fan of wild salmon, so can't speak to that dish, but the rock cod was excellent- served with a tomato-olive sauce, and the linguine dish was absolutely packed with seafood. Our server, Scott, is a hospitality vet and a charming gentleman. We're far from being regulars at Sunset Restaurant, but he gave us the VIP treatment. We'll ask to be seated in his section next time we visit. Scott took extra care to see what my lactose-intolerant daughter could eat and made a big deal out of my wife's birthday. I appreciate when it feels like the waiter is invested in your dining-experience. Valet parking adjacent to the restaurant for only $10. Easy to get in and out, and you don't have to hunt for parking or park far away. So convenient. Just a fantastic return visit to Sunset Restaurant. I can't speak to the planning part or anything (though I know Bret and FeiFei liked working with both the site coordinator Cathy and the owners, Jill and Sparky--I've thoroughly enjoyed reading the Avesta Diaries on this page, but she and her damage are history), but from where I was sitting, the place seemed ideal. The ceremony, cocktail hour, and seated reception all took place at Rancho Del Cielo, in different parts of the scenic grounds. There were about a hundred of us in attendance, and we fit perfectly--there was plenty of room to party, but it felt warm and intimate, too. The views were marvelous before and after sundown, well worth the trek to Malibu (though the drive up seemed long and tricky enough that I was grateful the bride and groom hired shuttles). The decor was on point, charming and well suited to an al fresco California wedding. I had a lovely time at Rancho Del Cielo, and would highly recommend it if you're looking to get hitched in Malibu. The place was beautiful, worthy of the most special of special occasions.

We also used all vendors from their preferred vendors list who were all amazing, professional, and helpful. The venue is also GORGEOUS! We really wanted an outdoor venue with ocean views, but Rancho is also a garden setting on a mountaintop. All of our guests could not stop talking about how beautiful and amazing this venue is. We cannot recommend Rancho del Cielo enough!!

By the time everything settled, four people had canceled, so there were only six of us. The hostess and valet were wonderful, but unfortunately that was where the positive experience ended. About an hour into our reservation (with over an hour still remaining), a staff member approached us and accused us of lying about the size of our party because they needed the couch area for a larger group. If they had simply come over and politely asked if we'd be willing to move to one of the many open smaller tables, we would have gladly done so. We were there to celebrate, not make anyone's job harder. Instead, multiple staff members approached us within minutes of each other, each becoming more abrupt than the last. We had already told the first employee that we were wrapping things up, and literally just a few minutes later another employee came over with even more attitude insisting they needed the space. At that point, I simply said we'd leave. His response was, "Thank you," in a tone that made us feel completely unwelcome. To make matters worse, a wine flight was accidentally delivered to our table that none of us ordered. We politely let the staff know because we didn't want to be charged for something that wasn't ours, and instead of an apology or even checking what happened, we were met with skepticism, as though we were trying to get away with something. We never touched the flight--we simply wanted to make sure the mistake was corrected. What disappointed me most wasn't that they needed the table back. I completely understand restaurants and wineries have to accommodate guests and maximize seating. It was the way we were spoken to throughout the experience. Hospitality goes a long way, and a simple, respectful conversation would have changed everything. We weren't loud, disrespectful, or causing any issues. We still tipped our server because we believe in taking care of service staff, but the overall experience left us feeling uncomfortable and honestly put a damper on my birthday. The scenery is beautiful, and the location has so much potential. Unfortunately, the customer service made the experience feel anything but welcoming. I rarely leave negative reviews, but I hope this feedback encourages management to focus on how guests are treated. A little kindness and professionalism would have made all the difference. The drive there was unsafe, which was never communicated until we were actually staying there and were told, by the host, that it was dangerous to drive the mountain in the rain. Being that she was not home (which we had been told that she would be) we had no access to food or even basic essentials as bathroom tissue, as we'd only been left less than three rolls. The location was noisy, with the water heater clanking all night long, as well as crickets chirping from all around the building. We contacted the owner several times, but she was too busy to help us, as were her staff. We posted this on Airbnb, and her response was that we were "nightmare guests", which is a ridiculous statement as she never met nor spoke with us. We left her property clean and exactly per her instructions -- dishes washed and put away, garbage empty and taken out, towels left in hamper, gates left closed. What then made us nightmare guests? Perhaps that we called her out on her bulls**t? We were honest that we had never stayed in an Airbnb (and never will again after this experience) and she then ranted in her review how we didn't come to her with a high guest rating -- how could we have any rating when we've never stayed in an Airbnb? This issue is not over, as we will be pursuing a refund based on the hosts dishonesty and our horrible week there. We will also be sharing this information so as to warn others of this horror show. Lastly, we paid over $2,100 for this trip, a very expensive horror show, and one that we hope others won't make. Be warned; this place is not what the owner will have you believe!

Wow. This property is absolutely stunning…read more I came here for a wedding and they had a gorgeous venue where there was an indoor and outdoor section. They had a nice waterfall outside, clean and cute bathrooms, an outside patio on both sides, and a glass window looking out into the nature. The valet parking was efficient as well. It was a bit of a walk to the venue from the parking area but we had so much fun. The biggest surprise was the food. The appetizers were all amazing and the main dishes were good as well. I think this was one of the best foods I've had at a wedding. They also had a pho bar, to my surprise was also included in the venue. Now the pho itself...the broth was meh and noodles were thin rice noodles, but, the concept was genius for an Asian wedding. I loved the Korean fried chicken! Drinks were so delicious and bartenders/sergers/staff were all amazing.
