I have been a member for one season and have very much enjoyed it. The no audition format allowed me, a very hesitant public singer at best, to feel like I would not be laughed out of the building or derided for trying. Everyone in the chorus was so welcoming. The conductor was supportive, if stern, and I found myself having a good time. Not only that, our conductor has been so much more than just a conductor. He has been a wonderful teacher. I have learned a lot about singing and a lot about myself, others, and leadership. Strangely, my activities in the chorus have helped me to better myself in ways I did not expect. Wow. Our shows are either done with just us (Spring) and with the men (Christmas). We also do special shows at various times through the year. Most of the special shows are on a volunteer basis. We generally have one practice a week, down in the Museum District. As we get closer to our shows, we add practices as needed. Being a member does take discipline enough to come to all rehearsals and work on your own time to learn the music, but it's not a hard slog. Membership is diverse in terms of race, sexual orientation, and age. There are women of all different levels of singing ability and the focus is on a good time. I think all gals should give it a whirl. You'll at least learn a thing or two.

We joined up for daughter to get more technique! All the dance teachers and their beautiful and Amazing Spirited Dance Director Jessalyn have been Amazing and so loving! My daughter has enjoyed the school and we have nothing bad to say about it! They have opened a New location in Sugarland, Tx ! We have done well in Dance Competitions too considering my girls 1st year to compete! It's about the Journey is what I say! This is even worse for me to have to do because of the importance of supporting local and black-owned businesses, but this one, in particular, is no longer deserving of that, and quite frankly, hasn't been for a while. Therefore, I encourage everyone to take their money, time, and talents elsewhere as we have many other amazing options in this city. I recently did some work for Courtney White of B.U. for the Arts for which I was promised compensation. However, on the day that I was told I would receive said compensation Courtney completely ignored all of my attempts to contact him, and he even took it a step further and proceeded to block me on all social media platforms as if I was the one causing the issue. If you know Courtney then you also know how he loves to preach about supporting other artists, but when the tables are turned, it's not reciprocated by him. I honestly am still in shock that situations like this can and still exist within a community like ours where so many of us know and/or work consistently with each other. Courtney, I have to say, it's very bold of you, and it tells me a lot about what you think of yourself and your business (especially since this isn't your first rodeo with compensation issues). It really disappoints me to watch someone like you who is living one of my long-term goals of owning a studio treat it so carelessly. Although you blocked me on social media, I'm sure you'll see this message at some point considering how many mutual contacts we have. I hope that it causes you to do some reflecting and make some changes in your life, both personal and business. Lastly, I want you to know that you had no contribution in making me who I am, and you definitely play no part in breaking me. Carry on.

He created a choreography, music selection and encouragement. The kids are happy, and after the first 30 mins., it was already shaping up. Well worth it.

Easy to park, easy to enter…read more Underground self-parking lot is a flat $15 for events and in the next building over. You'll have to cross the street where valets and taxis pick up and drop off directly. It took about half an hour to leave the garage after a show, which was much better than expected. Seats are comfortable considering the venue. I went without my lumbar support just fine. The slope at the orchestra level is good enough. Seats are staggered so that you are in between the two seats in front of you. The projections box for translations is at the top of the stage, which is quite high. At Row J, my eyes were constantly up to read the translations and the actors were not in my peripheral view, so I felt like I missed many gestures and facial expressions. Perhaps Row N would be a nice compromise between seeing the performers' faces while also being able to more easily glance up at the translations without missing the story. Seat 4 is probably the furthest out I would go on Orchestra Right or Orchestra Left because the side of the stage ends close to there. (See attached photo.) Any further and you might miss something happening in the back corner of the stage.

This review is for Duke Ellington's Third Sacred Concert by the Houston Chamber Choir…read more Being that this wonderful concert focused around Jazz and Gospel I truly didn't know what to expect. Now, bare in mind that this is coming from a music lover's perspective. I however, am a skeptic when it comes to religion and have been labeled "Agnostic" for many years. Given these facts you should probably understand how surprised I was to love this concert so intensely. I was absolutely moved by the amount of talent concentrated in one room. I was also impressed by the emotional beauty of the whole concert. If I had to describe it all in three words I would say: Powerful, Beautiful and Emotional. This is a show no music lover should miss, no matter your religious background. You will love it. The Band, the soloists and the choir were perfectly in sync. The execution of each piece was masterfully done. I loved the Narrations that took places during some pieces as well as the way the show flowed, it just felt right. My favorite piece was one called "Freedom." I admit I got goosebumps from the intensity of this piece. The Choir sang beautifully, as did the soloist. The narrator was powerful in his presentation and the band did an outstanding job. I literally said Wow, a few times during this piece. My second favorite part of the concert, which I undoubtedly had to give a standing ovation for, was Barrie Lee Hall's trumpet solo. I was beyond words and could only express my sincere admiration by standing up and clapping as loud as I could for such a talented individual. I really thank Yelp's very own Dolph, who's part of the Houston Chamber Choir, for allowing me the opportunity of experiencing this AMAZING show. If I were able to give this concert 10 stars, I really would.

One part Da Camera and one part Houston Chamber Choir EQUALS one Excellent Blended Cocktail of…read moreHuman Vocal & Musical Performance. Now I know that Houston is full of world class artists, but it's always wonderful to be reminded time and time again that this city has and attracts the talent audiences here enjoy. "After Bach" premiered this spring at the Wortham Theater with separate performances by visiting concert pianist Awadagin Pratt and the Houston Chamber Choir. In a wonderful volley of performances of Bach on piano and then Mendelssohn with the Choir, we were treated to the original master and then his influence on Mendelssohn (thus the name of this concert - thank goodness for liner notes). My two favorite parts of this concert was the piano work of Bach's Fugue in C minor and Mendelssohn's Jauchzet dem Herrn alle Welt. Mr. Pratt masterfully performed a piece that I would suspect was taken (or would go on to influence) Bach's organ music. I got hints of Bach's Fugue in D minor which is a personal favorite of mine. I felt that the HCC's Jauchzet... (an Capella piece) really showed off the wonderful blend of the company's voices and conducting by Robert Simpson. The entire concert was brought together after the intermission with Franz Liszt's Via Crusis, 14 Stations of the cross for chorus and piano. Awadagin Pratt & the Houston Chamber Choir joined forces in a performance that would have been comfortable in any majestic European cathedral. Not exactly the fare of a Baroque Top 40's fan like me, but a wonderful performance nonetheless. A nice added touch: I'm glad that Da Camera & Houston Chamber Choir added the lyric sheet. Ich spreche ein bisschen deutsche (I speak a little German), but barely (and I could use all the help I can get). All these things and a good program just add to the education and appreciation of the audience for the music's history and significance. I'm looking forward to the upcoming season of the Houston Chamber Choir. This last year's was a interesting blend of classical, jazz, European and American (North & Central) performances. HCC is talented, professional and wonderfully conducted company that I'll be enjoying for year's to come. Don't miss them!

I came for the last showing of Pearl Fishers, which is a traditional French Opera. We got middle balcony seats using a student discount for 10 bucks a ticket. That's a steal! The production value was great, one non changing stage, costumes remained constant also, but they were very colorful and appeasing to the eyes. The plot could been a little bit better planned and acting was eh, but the singing was superb. It's a small space so basically every seat in the house is a good view. I like the smaller intimate theaters because you feel like you are part of the show, especially when some of the singers walk up the aisles onto the stage. If $10 is too much to "TRY" out the opera, they offer a free dress rehearsal where you can can take pictures!!! I will be back for another show.
