Easy to park, easy to enter…read more Underground self-parking lot is a flat $15 for events and in the next building over. You'll have to cross the street where valets and taxis pick up and drop off directly. It took about half an hour to leave the garage after a show, which was much better than expected. Seats are comfortable considering the venue. I went without my lumbar support just fine. The slope at the orchestra level is good enough. Seats are staggered so that you are in between the two seats in front of you. The projections box for translations is at the top of the stage, which is quite high. At Row J, my eyes were constantly up to read the translations and the actors were not in my peripheral view, so I felt like I missed many gestures and facial expressions. Perhaps Row N would be a nice compromise between seeing the performers' faces while also being able to more easily glance up at the translations without missing the story. Seat 4 is probably the furthest out I would go on Orchestra Right or Orchestra Left because the side of the stage ends close to there. (See attached photo.) Any further and you might miss something happening in the back corner of the stage.

Remember that you can't take any food inside during the performances! They can kick you out if they catch you snacking. Drinks are ok though. The only thing I dislike is panting in the underground garage. You will have to do quite a bit of walking to come up from under to enter the venue. I don't mind personally, but if your date is dolled up in heels, you may want to uber, valet park closer, or find street park in the surrounding blocks. It's a smaller stage production but they still bring companies that bring it and put on a great performance. We'll definitely be back!

We were sat very close to the production and it was so amazing to see all the actors so close! I will say that the staff was very efficient and amazing when we came into the facility. They will call window was quick and coming to check your ticket in was also very efficient. Definitely recommend as something new and cool to do if you are in the area.

For $15 I don't think the view was that bad. We went for the "Rock, Roll, & Tutus", I love classical ballet so it wasn't what I was expecting but it was good. Didn't really care for the tap ballet performances. It's pretty long so be prepared to sit for a long time. I'm giving it a 3 because of the RUDE customer service. Purchasing my tickets over the phone was a hassle. Secondly, me and my friend were interrupted TWICE while talking to another couple by an employee who wanted to check our tickets. We were practically followed every time we got up during intermission. The employee did not bother checking anyone else's ticket in the area which was strange. It was such uncomfortable experience!

It was raining and able to navigate to the theater without getting wet. The venue itself is beautiful, modern, clean, and well-organized. We were able to enter quickly and our tickets were scanned with no wait. From the moment we entered, everything feels organized and easy to navigate, with helpful staff throughout the theater. Our seats were in the Mezzanine section and the view of the stage was partially obstructed by the back of people's heads sitting in front of me, but still had a decent view. The acoustics were excellent and the show was a fun, high-energy experience. Restroom lines during intermission were extremely long but seemed to move quickly. They had a variety of drinks available but I didn't purchase any. The overall experience felt seamless from start to finish. Except for the parking. After the show, was stuck in the parking garage over an hour trying to exit. However, the Hobby Center is a great venue for watching a show. Would absolutely come back to watch another show!

I am always so fascinated how they can move the furniture so fast behind scenes. I think the theatre itself is really nice. A bit narrow though and everytime I go I am fearful of falling in someone haha. the ceiling has a beautiful star light. Not too big of a theatre or stage so it feels like a much more intimate experience. The valet service parking is always so convenient but it does get full pretty quickly !

However, there was very little opportunity to voice my own thoughts and there was much more over-explaining than actual practicing. Also, my musical interests were never considered and that plays a huge part in how one learns to vocalize. It really just felt like I was paying for a couple of strictly corrected warm-ups every lesson and that really took the fun out of singing. But if your goal is to become a great opera singer, this might be your guy!

I attended various performances here for the music school, and was fortunate enough to recently attend an opera performance. The acoustics are very nice, and the first floor offers a wonderful view of the stage even from the back. The staff are very friendly and the ticket buying process was very easy. They scanned our tickets at entry with a QR code which was convenient. I would love to attend another opera or musical performance here. The UH choirs are also excellent and it is a pleasure to see them perform here.

The Moores Opera House is the University of Houston's answer to Rice's Alice Pratt Brown Hall. It…read moreopened accompanied by much fanfare in 1997 with a performance of Verdi's Requiem conducted by the dean of American choral conductors, Robert Shaw. I had the privilege of being one of the singers brought in to augment the university chorus. It was the last time I got to sing with Shaw who died in 1999. I found it a great pleasure to watch him coax the kids to produce a musical whole that was much more than the sum of the individual performers. The hall itself is wonderful. Small and intimate with only 800 seats, it still has a state-of-the art stage which can handle the biggest and most complex operatic productions. The small hall doesn't overtax the still-developing voices of the student singers in UH's music program. It also is a great venue for orchestra, choral and chamber music concerts. The ceiling in the hall features a work of art in the shape of a huge lighted ring entitled the Stella Project. I've never seen anything else like it. Its concert series isn't quite as impressive (and free) as Rice's but features some performances by Da Camara and Ars Lyrica in addition to student and faculty productions. To get here, take the Cullen exit off of I-45 and then UH exit 16.

I just went to see Beauty and the Beast Saturday evening, and it was amazing!! The musical was…read moresurreal and close to the original animation. My husband and I both cried because it was sentimental of how we related to the actual animated film. My only advice would be to NOT take babies or children who aren't capable of sitting still and listening to the show. The first half of the show was interrupted by a couple allowing their baby and toddler to continue to whine and repeatedly ask for her mama. After a while, the dad finally left with his baby. Naturally, it was only after attracting some attention from others that the situation became evident. We adore babies/children; however, this was not the place for them. I blame the parents for being self-centered and ignoring their baby by allowing her to whine and waiting until almost the end of the first half of the show to excuse themselves out. I wish the staff would have noticed and stepped in. They're usually vocal when it comes to food or pictures and should also pay attention to whining babies.

Wow so I finally bought some last minute tickets to see Life of Pi! The show and cast was amazing…read more The venue is located downtown and if you go see an evening event you'll get treated to a beautiful backdrop of a towering skyline full of twinkling lights. Parking in the adjacent garage is $15. Next time I will get there at least an hour prior to get lower level parking. We arrived 15 minutes prior to show time and it took us at least 10 minutes to park and walk into the performance center. And we waited for 25 minutes just to get out of the parking garage when the show was over. Lesson learned. Everyone was dressed from casual (boo) to dressy/business casual (ladies in sundresses and some had heels or little sandals and men were in slacks and dress shirts or polo shirts and some men had suits or jackets or just a buttoned down collared shirt and khakis.) Personally, I dont like to go see a performance and see people in shorts and t shirts especially on a Saturday night performance, It runs the gamut in case you're wondering "how should I dress?" Intermission offered a full bar and snacks and candy. Tickets for our seating area were $128 pp next time I'll sit closer and pay more. Overall we had a fun time!

It's a miracle that they're still able to provide high quality, free entertainment in this day and age. The booking process is a bit random - for extremely popular shows, there's a lottery, but otherwise you refresh during the ticket drop and get into a queue and can pick up to four tickets in the covered seating area (which also has huge ceiling fans. Huge plus.) or just hang out on the hill. Digital tickets are a huge upgrade where you don't have to wait at will call anymore. Seating is fantastic - plenty of walking space, seats have cupholders, and pretty much every seat has a clear view of the stage at a different angle for adults of all heights. There is difficulty in seeing ground level acts like the contortionist. (The interpretation of Da Vinci was phenomenal though, you can imagine). I always try to make it to at least one Cirque show every year and it's always a blast. Cheers to what they do here.

In all, no complaints, besides my friend whining about the bugs (she's not used to the South lol). Also something to note, they obviously have seating, but you can opt to bring your own chairs for the lawn. Also, tickets are free and they go fast, just an fyi.
