I was recommended to try horseback riding to help with my anxiety which has gotten pretty bad lately. So, taking that advice as a "Why not, it can't hurt." I googled for a place nearby and discovered Cypress Trails. I ended up booking a 1.5 hour ride for that day, and was looking forward to it. But as my anxiety usually does, as it got closer to the time I'd need to leave to get there on time I could feel my panic attack coming on and being worried about driving the forty minutes out there. I called, I tried to cancel explaining (embarrassingly) why at the same time. The woman on the phone not only sympathized, but said that she would alert the instructor about my situation and said that when I did arrive, they would know I may take a little extra time to mount and so on. She also let me know there would only be two other people with me. It honestly helped get me in a more positive mindset that it would be fun. When I got there, EVERYONE was nice. There were hundreds of horses, and tons of dogs that welcomed me onto the property. I checked in, and the young man at the desk was very patient and was one on one with me getting on the back of the horse and guiding me through the basics. I was relieved to see that they had taken my height (or lack there of) into consideration and was given a beautiful Arabian horse that was on the smaller side. I know the guy could tell I was nervous, but it was less about the horse (named Dancer) and more my drive over. I rode a bit when I was younger but it had been awhile since then and I definitely was super awkward for awhile with the reigns. However, the moment we got out into the woods and on the trail, I started to feel better. My guide, and gosh I wish I could remember her name, was wonderful and engaging. She let me know that it was possible to actually "rent" out a horse to ride solo once you knew the trails well enough. It wasn't long before I began to feel more comfortable riding and was able to sit back comfortably and enjoy the view. Being out there, even though I've lived in Houston all my life, and just being around nature and animals helped tremendously. The bonus was the humans running the joint being just as equally friendly. After the ride I was allowed to dismount and lead Dancer to some water, where we had a few minutes together where she let me pet her and nudged her head into me gently a few times. So whether you're in town looking for something to do; or like me, struggling with anxiety and depression and you like animals (especially horses) GO. Spend the money, enjoy your time out, it WILL BE WORTH IT! It is definitely something I plan to make a habit of now. read more

This past weekend we went riding for my friends 31st birthday and there was a large group of us. At first I got a horse that I was not comfortable with because she kept hitting my leg and kicking the ground. She also didn't allow the wrangler to put the metal thing in her mouth and was pushing him away. I immediately knew that my horse was different because all the other horses were waiting there patiently except mine. I asked to be taken down to another horse that was a bit more calm and the wrangler just left me there. Finally, some nice lady came and got me off that horse and onto another one. Another one of the wranglers Toby I believe was his name decided to be rude and say "wow you want to get ponied? Never heard of that before" this was my first time riding and he was just plain rude. Anyways, we started the trail and the little girl who was about 12 who was ponying me was so sweet and kept checking on me to see if I was doing ok. The whole ride was nice and relaxing..... BUT then that wrangler Toby decided that he wanted to show off with his horse and started making the horse do all these turns that eventually the horse threw him off. He kept acting like he didn't get thrown off and that he jumped but by the way he was walking and looked scared we knew he had been thrown off. He also broke the rains which was caused by him being thrown off not him jumping off. So then his horse got loose and ended up hitting one of our riders horse in the behind and so then that horse threw off our rider. The wranglers did not check to see if he was ok they did not even ask they just kept going and the wrangler who was trying to catch his runaway horse was smoking like if he was unbothered by the situation. We were all first time riders and they were just plain rude!! The little girl was the only one with manners and who actually checked on us to see if we were doing ok. ALL the ladies there were extremely sweet and helpful unfortunately both wranglers that we had that day were just plain awful. I did a 1.5 hour trail ride with Aven as our guide and one lesson with Diane so far. I'll start with a review of the trail ride. Aven was very nice and friendly, which I think is important when you go to a new place, especially if you're riding horses. She made me feel comfortable. I've tried two other places besides some beach rides while on vacation and pony rides as a child. They were pretty good experiences. However, I really enjoyed the scenery here, and most of the staff seemed helpful. It was definitely one of the best experiences I've had, at least from the limited time I've been riding horses. I'll probably want to try a lesson with Aven next, if not another trail ride. Now as far as my lesson with Diane, it was a bit different, which I would expect from a learning situation. Diane was funny and tough. Being a former military man, although I like doing well, I think it's important to get a no-nonsense opinion of where I'm at. I think that's good when you are being taught as opposed to a leisurely trail ride. With some of her suggestions, she got me from nearly falling off on a trot, to posting and getting into a more comfortable rhythm within the first 15-30 minutes of our hour lesson. (I still need a lot of work on that though.) In any case, it was a good lesson. I definitely want to get better at this. However, starting as an adult, and with my build, I really don't know what I would focus on other than learning basics and riding for fun. For now, Cypress Trails will be part of my journey. read more

Yesterday, my wife and I visited Cypress Trails and had a delightful experience. My wife is an experienced rider, while I am still a novice, having only ridden Western style a few times. A word of advice: they ride English style, which is essentially the opposite of Western style, so be prepared for some initial confusion if you're unfamiliar with English riding. They assigned me a horse that moved at a steady pace, which I was grateful for. As a novice rider, I'm always paired with a horse that's a bit stubborn and enjoys eating a lot, which amuses me but also requires constant correction whenever they spot a tasty treat! My wife, on the other hand, was given a retired racehorse, and she had no issues controlling him, given her extensive experience with English style riding. This was somewhat frustrating for me, as I was floundering, trying to control a lethargic horse while still learning the basics of riding and English style riding. The weather was ideal. The rainy conditions meant we were spared from the scorching temperatures that are common in Houston in June. They also had steps for shorter riders like us, which we found very helpful. We are both under 5' tall, so these steps were a godsend when it came to mounting and dismounting. Overall, it was a fantastic experience. We plan to return and would recommend Cypress Trails to anyone looking for an enjoyable outdoor activity, regardless of their experience with horse riding. read more

Oh my goodness! This was the absolute best experience. I was so nervous. I wanted something to do with my six year old and 22 year old. None of us had any experience on a horse and when I called and expressed my concerns - she immediately made me laugh and put my fears at ease. My six year old son did fabulous on a horse named "Aloof" - request him if you have a little one. Best horse ever. Our guides were talkative young and funny. The roses are well trained - even though some little to take little nibbles here and there! But the best part was that I am a Type 1 diabetic and before the trip I was feeling really badly even though I had eaten. I checked my blood sugar and it was 53. I didn't have any cash or anything to drink or eat and everyone was on their horses. They were so awesome and understanding and immediately got me a coke and told me to take all the time I needed . They cared about my safety than their timeframe. I was so impressed and my kids had a fabulous experience! I highly recommend them!!! read more

I can't explain the horror I felt as watched their horses struggle for their lives. I know what a flash flood is. The news reported for several day that we were in for heavy rain. You can't keep using the excuse that it happened so fast. You had days to prepare! If you know you are in a flood zone, you should have an evacuation plan. Even with so many horses! If you are going to run a business with them, they should have a way to transport them in the case of a natural disaster. Especially since this has happened before. You should know better. Shame on you! It will be long time before I will be able to stop picturing those poor animals. I adore horses, much more than the average person. I, unfortunately, can not afford them. But if I could I would have plans in place! You will never get any business from me and I will make sure that everyone I know will know of your negligence. read more

I have lived in this area for the last few years and I have always passed by this place. I was a little reluctant on letting my 5 year old ride due to inexperience and her being fidgety and scary but she had an amazing time. Jude was our trail boss and he did an excellent job of providing clear and concise block of instructions for my girls to understand and know what to do with the horses. I was blessed to be able to have him as our lead. He kept us at a nice comfortable pace so that my girls were not nervous about the ride and we enjoyed the trail. We finished our tour of the trail and sent another appointment immediately for the following weekend. Had a great time at Cypress Trails Horseback Riding recently. They have plenty of beautiful, well-cared-for horses to ride. The staff was very helpful and engaging -- they made us feel comfortable, gave clear instructions, and were genuinely enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge. The trail ride itself wound through some nicely wooded areas, which provided shade during the Texas heat. It was peaceful, scenic, and a perfect pace for enjoying the outdoors without getting overheated. One of the best things about Cypress Trails is their summer classes and programs for young riders. It's awesome that they offer opportunities for kids to learn more about horses, riding, and care -- a great way to build skills and confidence in a fun, supportive environment. Loved My Ride at Cypress Trails Ranch! Had an amazing time horseback riding at Cypress Trails Ranch! The customer service was outstanding--everyone was super friendly, patient, and made me feel totally at ease, even though I'm not an experienced rider. The ranch itself is in a beautiful location--peaceful, scenic, and the perfect place to unwind and connect with nature. The horses were well cared for and gentle, and the whole experience felt safe and well-organized from start to finish. They offer different ride options, and the staff really takes the time to make sure you have the right fit for your skill level and comfort. Whether you're going solo or with friends or family, this place is a great spot to enjoy a relaxing ride. Definitely recommend it if you're looking for something fun and different to do around town. Updating my previous rating (which was already 5 stars) because I've seen deer in the woods on both my rides this weekend. The deer are so close to you on the trail and they stop to look at you while you look at them. I think I've ridden here now six times in just over a month. Seeing deer that close just fills my heart with joy. Also, fyi that they have upgraded to actual restrooms with cold AC. I saw some older reviews complaining about porta-pottys. Those are long gone. So no more sweating when you have to go. I do recommend that everyone plan wearing long pants. There are typical usual Houston pests like mosquitoes, flies, and ticks. But there is also poison ivy and poison oak, and you don't want that touching your bare legs while riding. Just say no to riding in shorts, skorts, Daisy Dukes, etc. (no matter how great you look in them) read more

I came here to celebrate my daughters 16th birthday and her love for horses! I was extremely terrified to do the trail ride with her but I did it for her, because she's my heart! I was nervous when the instructions were being given at first but Mark made sure that he talked me through everything and halfway through that ride I became way more comfortable! On top of that, he and the entire trail ride party sang happy birthday to my daughter while on horseback and took pictures of very memorable moments! Afterwards, we fed the horses carrots and we left with goodies to remember our visit! That smile on her face, was priceless! Everyone at this horseback riding place was extremely nice from the time I walked in and out. Jude was our guide and the craziest part is my girlfriend just wanted someone like us .. fun outgoing funny down to earth etc.. and Jude was all those things .. If we were having a conversation about something, it's like he can latch on to any of them with no problem. The ride was never boring. But to put the cherry on the sundae, I lost my phone and wallet in the middle of the ride and Jude told me he would go back and look for it.. He changed horses when we were done and raced back into those woods and rode up and down those trails for 30 minutes looking for my phone and wallet ..... I thanked Jude as he galloped back in with a huge smile on his face! Thanks Cypresswood trails for this experience! We'll be back with more ! read more

So me and my grandson, both being native Texans, have never ridden a horse. We got there and the staff could not have been more helpful. They were friendly and knowledgeable. I informed them that I had seconds of experience and that I was terrified of falling. Within a few minutes of being on the horse I felt as natural as could be. My grandson was in front of me and we rode through the woods next to cypress creek. It was so beautiful, so peaceful. At one point I told my grandson that all we needed was a campfire and big pot of beans. I could say that this was the best trail ride that I have ever been on however being the only ride that I have been on it wouldn't carry much weight. I flown in from Singapore yesterday and intentionally stopped by Houston to go horse riding with Cypress Trails. I booked a walk-trot-canter 3-hour ride, and was supposed to get there by 9.30am this morning. I overslept and called Cypress Trails. It was already 10.15am and I was still in Houston!! They knew that I was flying in from Singapore and came all the way just to ride with them that they found me a wrangler at 11.30am and we did the walk-trot-canter 3-hour ride. I really appreciated Cypress Trails making this happened. They were really busy today with so many riders and it was easy to turn me down since I was 2 hours late!! But they didn't, and I am glad that I stopped by Houston, and will leave Houston tomorrow with some great memories!! read more

My name is Oscar and I came with my girlfriend to this place for an hour long adventure. While the horse riding experience itself was nice, the guide, who looks like a young white lady, was not very friendly. She addressed me as simply "hey guy", which I did not mind too much. But when my girlfriend dismounted and was walking away, she shouted at her "Hey! Hey!". Couldn't she address her as "maam" with some descent human respect? It bogged me because we were the only the only Asians and she was being specifically rude to us, and then laughing it off like it was a joke. Had so much fun on my horseback riding experience!! Went for my birthday at the end of March and did the 9 AM ride. Weather was perfect! This is the first ride of the day, ARRIVE 30 MINUTES EARLIER THAN THE START TIME OF YOUR RIDE!! The price is great, $65 for 1 Hour and the trail ride is nice and peaceful!! There are longer rides as well if you're looking to ride for more than an hour at additional cost, but really the price for all the rides is good. They have a ton of horses and you can even feed the horses for an extra $2! Our tour guide was super nice and she was a great instructor with how to handle the horses! I would definitely go back again and would recommend the ranch to anyone looking to take a ride! read more

I went with three friends on a 1.5 hr trail ride. From the moment I got there, I knew this was going to be a positive experience. The dogs on the property were calm (not high strung, like other places I've been), the horses were calm, clean, and well taken care of. We got there a half hour early and were able to saddle up and take some time to get to know our horses. As everyone in our group was on time, we were able to hit the trail exactly when scheduled. Our guide was Brian, and he was exceptionally helpful, engaging, attentive, and instructive. After we returned, a helper came and snapped a bunch of photos for us. I Always book a trail ride at Cypress Trails for a peaceful escape in nature and yesterday was special because my 8 year old neurodivergent son wanted to join me for his first ride. Matt was our guide and i can honestly say that it wouldn't have been possible without his help. He was EXTREMELY patient with my son and stayed with him the entire time to ensure his safety and made him feel comfortable by talking to him and working with him through his stemming episodes the duration of the ride. Was here about a year ago, saw a Groupon and reminded me of my experience here. Absolutely horrible! A young lady named olive checked us in. She was smoking the ENTIRE TIME right in my daughters face on her E-cigarette. I talked to a older lady staff member with glasses and she said it was normal and said olive does it 'on trail' too it's outside so it doesn't matter. AND LAUGHED ABOUT IT. I was so upset and asked where the manager was, and I was pointed to Olive! Such a inconsiderate rude and b*tchy girl should not be in charge. Stay away from here unless you want you're children to get second hand smoke poisoning. ZERO STARS. read more
