We took our kids to Cypress Trails for my daughter's birthday. Our guide, Dianne, did a great job with my kids (8, 11, 14) as it was their first time on a trail ride. She also made my daughter feel special for her birthday and initiating singing happy birthday to her. Dianne took us to a practice area first so my kids could practice which was smart. She also took video and pictures for us. All of the horses that my kids rode were pretty chill. They were typical trail horses in that they almost do it for you except that they like to stop and snack on plants. The trail we took wasn't really scenic, but it was shaded. My horse on the other hand was like a big puppy and I had to keep the reins tight the entire ride because he wouldn't back off from the horse in front of him (although he didn't want to lead and would stop when he was first). So it was tiring to ride a horse like that and I didn't feel as relaxed as I have on other trail rides (and I've been on dozens). Also, my stirrups were uncomfortable because they were forcing my toes inward. Keep in mind that they prefer that you hold the reins up with both hands rather than a one hand hold. As far as amenities, they have a nice area to wait outdoors. We purchased a pony ride for my youngest and his dad led him around their grounds. The staff was friendly. The kids enjoyed feeding carrots we brought to their horses. Overall, it was a great experience and we would definitely go back. read more

Bought a Groupon for a 1.5-hour trail ride last night and then booked for this morning. They were super quick to get back to me and we were able to make a reservation for the afternoon no problem, even on short notice. I have riding experience but my friend who went with me did not, and we both had an incredible, comfortable ride. They give you a little instruction on basic horse riding (kick to go, how to turn, etc.) but to be honest, for the trail rides it's not wholly necessary that you have experience implementing these... the horses will generally just follow each other. It allows you just to enjoy the walk through the woods and the gait of the horse. My horse was Wizard (I LOVED him. He was so well behaved.) And my friend's horse was Gator (also super lovely and well behaved). I haven't ridden in a long time and this experience makes me want to pick it up again. The only thing that would have made this better is I wish I was able to canter in the field, but our group was also very beginner. I actually locked my keys inside of my car (hehe) so my friend and I were stuck there for a while until we received the spare... but it was not a bad place at all to be stuck. Lots of playful dogs running around and you can pet the horses by the fences. The property is very big with a lot of features - they have several paddocks and even a trampoline. Come a little early so you can explore. The staff was very helpful when we were locked out and offered us water/tools to get into the car. The wranglers were sweet. 10/10 experience, would definitely come here again. My friend had an absolute blast and raved about it the whole way home. read more

This is a great idea to do during this pandemic. I went with a group of 6 (bc we did the Groupon) and it was our first time! We all had a great time with our horses. The guide's instructions were simple to follow and during the ride, we definitely got the hang of it. Our guide, (I think her name is Olivia), was very helpful and looked back at our group and even stopped frequently just to ensure we were all good. Everyone was friendly, and i mean, EVERYONE. I definitely need to get thicker because my butt bones are still in pain from the saddle lol. read more

I had the chance to take a trail ride this weekend and sadly I cant say I enjoyed it. Ive been horseback riding before and had great experiences but the horses here seem overworked and skiddish. That coupled with the fact they are very unorganized would make me look for another place in the future. The first thing that happened which rattled my nerves was just 15 minutes after arriving. A young girl who works there (about 9) was riding a horse in a nearby pasture. The horse got spooked and took off in a dead run about a quarter mile from where everyone was waiting to be mounted on their horse. The girl was unable to stop the horse and he continued to gain speed the entire quarter mile toward us. If you've never had a 1000 lb horse running full speed straight toward you let me tell you its terrifying. The girl falls off the horse (who keeps bolting) and all the other wranglers take off to chase him and check on her. One of them comes back with the horse who is clearly upset, rearing and making all kinds of grunting nosises. Not the first thing you want to see when you're about to go on a ride. The instruction, and I use that term lightly, about how to control the horse is so quick you'd better be a fast listener. The mentions they give you 15 minutes of instruction but Id say its actually more like 5-7 minutes. Its not even really instruction its like the mandatory speil the airline crew gives before you take off. Just a barage of words and hand motions. I was extremly surprised at how young the guides were. The girls who took us on our trail ride couldnt have been older than 20. Im sure they have been around horses their entire lives but I would have felt much more comfortable with an adult. While on our trail ride we had a few incidents. One which a rider fell off due to her horse bucking. So we had to wait on the girls to call a more senior wrangler to come assess the situation. Luckily the rider was able to finish the ride and wasnt badly hurt. Also there is a horse that likes to roll around in the grass at a certain spot during the trail ride. Well, he did this on our ride with a rider. Needless to say this freaked her out but again thankfully she wasnt injured. Also, one of the girls told us about the horse likes to do this in the exact same spot every trail ride. So why is that horse being used? Also an hour and a half is too long for the novice rider. The initial excitment wears off after about 30 minutes. The next 30 minutes are when your knees, legs and back start to ache and the last 30 minutes are just painful. I was really excited to patronize these folks after seeing what they went through with the tax day floods. But my visit this weekend was not memorable for positive reasons. I highly suggest you pay the additional fee and book a private ride to lessen the chance of an incident happening while on your ride. read more

I have been to this place twice in less than a month and I can't wait to go back. I have taken both family and friends on both instances and they had the best time ever. It was an unforgettable experience. The ranch scenery during the ride is breath taking. Dense vegetation, wonderful view of the creek and a peaceful-relaxing experience. We have come to Cypress trails for 3 years now for my daughters birthday. The first two she was to little and needed to be lead around. It was a great experience. Yesterday was her first and our first trail ride. We had a traumatic experience there and was handled beyond poorly. The man that got us on the horses was excellent. I wish I got his name. We all got on the horses and where waiting quit awhile because the young lady that was our trail leader had to eat and have a drink on her horse and was saying she was nauseated. She was very unprofessional. I'm not sure exactly what caused the next event, and I know horses and animals can do unexpected things. The horse threw the young lady off and she was almost crushed. Thank the Lord above she wasn't. The horse then fell between the electric fence and was being electrocuted in front of us. My 7 year old daughter watched in horror. I couldn't believe what was happening. The staff yelled turn off the fence which took a while. Then they yelled get them out of here. Which was us watching this horrible thing and honestly I was in such shock. The horse did get up. We where lead out I was talking to my daughter on her horse with big tears in her eyes. I let her ride the trail ride . It was nice the new leaders did a great job. We got off at the end no one asked if we where ok after the horrible earlier incident. Needless to say my daughter was so upset when we got in the car and so was I. Something we will never forget. I read more

Cypress Trails gave us the best experience we could have hoped for. We chose the 1 hour trail ride for my family of 4 with kids ages 9 and 7. I was nervous with my kids being so young but Cypress Trails matched my kids up with very gentle horses. On the trail Diane was very engaging with my children. She couldn't have been better to help guide us on our tour. After our wonderful trail ride the kids got to feed and pet the horses. My name is Joey Carter. I'm an 19 year old transgender male who has found not only employment here, but a family. When I came to Cypress Trails, I was had just come out of the hospital for an attempt at taking my own life. I had been turned down my many ranches in the past for lack of experience, for my age, for my gender identity and sexuality. However, when I came here, I was greeted with an opportunity to shine. Now, I wasn't handed anything on a golden plate. I was told to volunteer. I couldn't get anything out of my mouth by "Yes mam, no mam. Yes sir, no sir." I did everything I could to not been seen sitting down. I didn't even touch a horse my first few days. But, I saw my dream right in front of me. A horizon dotted with stars, Nordic wrangler calls that I vowed to master, riders who looked more like cowboys, and people who listened when I said I wanted this life. I met Darolyn Butler by accident. I had been graced with her million dollar smile paged in with magazine covers upstairs. From Oklahoma Dairy Queen to Miss Rodeo, I only knew who she was by those little lights. When I met her, I followed her around like the Shetland pony Delilah followed the Belgium Draft horse Moon around. I did so much work and I was so determined to be apart of what she had made over her 30 years. She was impressed with me. Miss Rodeo was impressed with me! I didn't find that out until later, I didn't even think she noticed me. I hadn't thought anyone noticed me. But they all did. I worked sunup to sundown, and when I was hired I was scared out of my mind. I didn't know how to saddle, how to brush a horse, how to do anything. I didn't know how to love myself enough to try. And they all asked to me to try one more time... From showing me for the hundredth time how to saddle, From showing me what it means to put on a pair of boots, From showing me the wet feed is definitely, kinda, almost people food, From showing me what family looks like around a bonfire, From the bottom of my heart, Thank you Cypress Trails. Because fast forward to today, Past a panic attack in the stalls, Past rainy days, Past full booked days, Past everything, I'm 19. And everyday, At the end of the day, I hear wrangler calls into the night, And finally, "We love you, Joey." We went with my in-laws over the thanksgiving holiday. The others in our party (including myself) all have experience riding, except my wife. She had never been on a horse and was pretty nervous, they gave her a sweet girl by the name of pebbles, who didn't need much direction and help ease her (my wife, the horse knew the drill). It was a great ride for my wife as well us experienced riders. The scenery was great, even after Harvey. Our trail guide gave us great directions at the beginning of the ride, to help us make things easier on our horses and ourselves. The horses were all very well mannered and the crew at the ranch did a fantastic job. I highly recommend Cypress trails for anyone wanting a little outside adventure. read more

This was our second trip to Cypress Trails. The first time we went on a basic trail ride. This time we took a lesson as we want to improve our skills in order to go on a Fast ride ride in the future. Had a great experience at Cypress Trails! We arrived a bit later than the recommended 30 minutes prior to ride, but the staff was very friendly and understanding. The woman who checked us in had a sunny personality and took the time to explain everything to us and tell us our horses' names. Lots of helmets and waist packs available, and bottles of water for purchase if you need one. The staff has very clear and easy-to-understand instructions for how to ride, which they go over with you before you head out. The hour long ride was the perfect length for our experience level. Our party members that were not interested in riding were allowed to wander the property and hang out with the dogs and horses while we were on the trail; they said they had a wonderful time! Overall our entire group greatly enjoyed our visit and will likely return. They also gave us $10 off coupons for next time! read more

I came here from out of town and did the one hr trail. I had so much fun that I wish I did the 2 hour option or the fast paced trotting but I was a beginner so I took it slow. First off they accepted my same day reservation but plz CALL and make a reservation because these guys hire tour staff based on how busy the day is. My guide, Jacob was awesome! He made conversation throughout the trail and took pictures upon request. This was my boyfriends first time on a horse and he made him feel at ease and prepared for anything. The horses were very tamed and the dogs came along to protect us from coyotes. The view was nice as well. I felt safe on this trail. I have been on other farms and they are a dump but this place is of HIGH quality. At the end, he gave us a keychain and a bandana. That little touch Makes a huge difference and makes you WANT to come back for more. I will definitely come here next time I go back to TX and recommend it to all my family. read more

She should truly only be put with experienced riders. My visit was on 9/19/20 where I paid for 4 Hrs ride including Mexican food ($179 +4 Dlls for carrots) the ride was nice but the food was "DISGUSTING " for that price you should have gotten a very good food!!! Also I never received the 2 bags of carrots to feed my horse !!! I would not recommend to expend all that money plus the ride it's very lumpy and narrow where I'm not sure if you can bestride vs pavement. read more

My family and I had a great time riding here. Our guides were Alexis and Preston & they were great. I do have one complaint from our experience. At the end of our ride an employee was helping me off my horse and I got off the horse incorrectly with one foot still in the stirrups. It was then another female employee (I did not get her name- but she was a young ginger woman who looked to be in her 20s & had a tattoo on her left wrist/hand) berated the young man helping me extremely loudly in front of a large group of guests, including my entire group and another group just arriving. The way that she spoke to the young man helping me was incredibly disgusting demeaning and humiliating. I understand he made a mistake and needed to be informed but there are WAY better ways to handle the situation. It was extremely uncomfortable, disappointing and UNPROFESSIONAL! read more
