Visiting CT is my guilty pleasure. Some choose yoga for peace & relaxation; but, I prefer equine therapy. The rides are always enjoyable, even in the rain. The ride through the woods and along the creek almost make a person forget they live in the city. No cell phone noise, no drama --total peace & quiet. Let me just start off by saying that I NEVER write reviews... only will I submit a review if I experienced impeccable service that moved me as well. If you are wanting to learn to ride the trails like a boss, this is definitely a place to start off at! Their trails are honest and sometimes treacherous but in the best way possible; in order to grow sometimes you need to be pushed past your comfort zone and I definitely have made progression 3x faster while riding at Cypress Trails than any other barn. Their motto, "Ride, Really RIDE!" Is exactly what they give you. The wranglers are amazing and very helpful! I have a personal favorite, Kate; I have only ridden with her a few times now but she really knows her stuff and she PUSHES me to ride better. And I freakin love IT!!! She is wonderful at gauging where you are at, experience, mental, and physical wise so that you can have a good ride every time. Their horses are gentle but with a personality that doesn't allow them to go into robot mode and go through the motions. You actually have to communicate with your horse and DIRECT them to where you want to go; which in turn, is making you a better rider!! I have taken private lessons and this is the training I'm referring to that I have appreciated so much. However, if you just want to casually trail ride and not have to do much at all, they have plenty of amazing horses for that as well. I enjoyed the ride and the trail was nice (besides being minorly creeped out by some of the sounds in the trees). However, I think the instructors need to be more patient in giving riding instructions, as before we took off they told us what to do in a hurry. They did give assistance through the ride as needed though, which led to more stops. read more

My wife and I decided to do something adventurous for our 37th wedding anniversary and go horseback riding. We enjoyed the winding trails through the woods with our wrangler Olivia, who managed to make sure these two senior citizens stayed in the saddle with her instructions. Will be back! read more

I've been taking lessons here once a week for the last few months and this place is great! I had never even been on a horse before coming here and I am having a blast learning. After being stuck in my downtown office all week, I cannot think of a better way to spend part of the weekend. The trails through the woods are rather extensive and it doesn't even seem like you are in the city anymore. You can tell that the wranglers care about the horses. If you're interested in taking lessons, I recommend requesting Toby . He'll let you learn at your own pace and he's a lot of fun. He won't let you fall off your horse either, which is really impressive given my less-than-graceful coordination skills. read more

We came for my sisters birthday and had no idea what to expect. There were 4 in our party, none of us have had even sat on a horse before. It had rained the night before so it was very wet and muddy outside but we still decided to ride. When we arrived, everyone was very welcoming and nice. We got signed in then it was time for us to meet our horses! The staff was extremely knowledgeable and calm when a few of us were kind of freaking out, not knowing how we were going to guide the horses ourselves on a hour long rIde. They explained everything and made sure we were comfortable before we took off. Rod was absolutely the best guide we could have asked for. My mom was having some troubles getting used to her horse but Rod handled the horses extremely well and helped her every time. We would definitely love to do this again, maybe just on a pretty day. This review is: (1) to comment on my experience at Cypress Trails and (2) to refute the republication of inaccurate information about Cypress Trails following the recent historic flood. First, I have been riding at Cypress Trails for 2 years--first as a rider, then as a horse lessee, and more recently as a horse owner/boarder. I doubt that one can find many, if any, PUBLIC STABLES in the world that have better quality, or better cared for, horses. Where else can a non-horse owner pay a very reasonable amount for a 1 to 3 hour trail ride (or more) on a beautiful Arabian horse that competes in endurance races? Particularly within a major city (a couple of miles from an international airport) but still be able to ride through miles of beautiful greenbelt under a canopy of trees? Horses and riders are matched to the ability of the rider as well as the length and type of the ride contracted. I was pleasantly amazed when I discovered this stable. I believe the stable owner provides an unmatched service to the community--making such recreation available to the public as well as her role in mentoring, sponsoring, teaching, and providing jobs to young people who learn to love horsemanship and how to take care of others (through taking care of the horses.) Second, during the flood several people lost their life, hundreds were rescued, and hundreds more had their homes flooded. The news reported this was a 500 year event because of the amount of rain and the HUGE area involved. Other stables that kept horses had horses that died during the flood but yet only Cypress Trails was targeted (unfairly in my opinion) because of the media coverage of some of the horse rescues. At Cypress Trails, the weather is monitored and horses are evacuated pursuant to a written evacuation plan (provided to friends, boarders, etc.) when it appears there is significant risk of the stables being flooded. I understand that typically there are about 2 evacuations each year--as was the case in 2015--without loss of any horses. In 2001 or 2002, I understand there was an evacuation commenced when the owners were away, horses got spooked, and I believe a couple of horses got away and ultimately died. An evacuation decision requires judgment based upon a reasonable forecast to the public (i.e. to Cypress Trails in this case) of the amount and timing of rain. A forecast of the extent and timing of this rain event was not provided and probably not known in advance by anyone. Moreover, Conroe Dam flood gates were opened without advance warning that night. The massive rain plus the opening of those flood gates basically caused the Cypress Creek water depth to shoot straight up. NOT A USUAL OCCURRENCE. A USGS graph publicly available on the internet of the flooding event at Cypress Creek (described as a hydrograph by a geologist who responded to a Houston Chronicle writer) documents that within 4 hours the water level had risen over 20 feet. With something this massive happening, it was not possible to execute the evacuation plan the Stable Owner had in place even though she and an employee tried starting about 3am and at risk of their own life to get the horses to safety. Thanks to the heroic efforts of some people later in the day very few of the approximately 80 horses kept at the stables ended up dying--1 confirmed death and 3 listed as missing per the latest posting that I saw. One of the horses shown on TV being rescued was mine. I live an hour away in dry non-rush hour traffic and there was no way for me to get to the stables to help. It broke my heart seeing video of the rescues but not for one second do I think the Stable Owner was to blame for anything that happened to the horses. I know she loves the horses and I know how well the Cypress Trails horses are cared for. read more

I took my three kids ages, 9, 11, 13 here 7/9/2017 and we had an awesome time. The horses are so well trained that even a elder person could ride them. They're so calm and smart. My kids and I are beginner riders so you know it were a bit apprehensive at first but excited at the same time. We were happy to see that the team, Lil Josh (junior ranger) were so well trained as well. Now my little ones wants to be little rangers. The entire experience was great and we can't wait to go back and take other family members and friends. read more

I was keeping this a secret from my daughter, so when she arrived she was so excited. She thought she was just going to ride a pony no mam! She rode the horses, it was such a great experience for the both of us going through the trail, it wasn't a small trail their and back, it was good length so you'll get the full experience. The people who worked their are awesome from the time they greeted me, helping me onto my horse, showing me the ropes, each person I came across had such a great attitude. Unfortunately my experience ended on a bad not, I lost my keys during the trail, DON'T PUT YOUR KEYS IN YOUR POCKETS. These nice folks not only helped track my every step to look for my keys, they even went through the trail to find my keys, they helped unlock my door, the kind owner even drove me and my daughter to a location where I met friend to help pitch us a ride back home, and they let me leave my car there over night until I came back. I have folks coming in February and I would love to bring them here. Good people and lovely horses. read more

First time on a horse in 19 years and my daughters first time. It was such an amazing experience and loved how friendly the whole staff is and very thorough on explaining everything especially for those who are far from professional horse riders. I gave this a try when I had a visitor from Colorado and wanted to do something out of the city. It was a quiet place and we had a group of 6 people with 2 wranglers. Overall it wasn't bad but I've gone horse back riding a few times and I've had better. We weren't told to arrive early so we were exactly on time. The lady who was filling in at the desk had no clue how to take a cash payment or what to tell us to do like sign the waiver and get helmets. We finally had someone help us and went over the rules for signing in. Once we got to the horses the wrangler seemed very unprofessional. Not much direction and just told to hop on and she walked away. My horse then started walking away and eating the hay and doing his own thing and no one seemed concerned. Finally the main wrangler provided directions but he likes to call people out for doing something right and wrong. This made the trip very awkward and not real pleasant as I felt like any move I made he was just going to announce it to the group. They had one person in the front leading and one in the middle but decided to split up my guest and I by getting in the middle of us two so it wasn't a peaceful bonding time and once again awkward. The trail was just okay, there's a lot of greenery but nothing special to look at. When we returned they give general direction on how to get off the horse but don't assist you and I found this s little nerve racking. Overall I love to horse back ride but this was by no means my favorite place and I would look elsewhere. read more

Just to clear things up about the ONE negative comment, the reason you waited so long (if that even happened doubt it) was because you didn't book a ride before-hand, they can't guarantee that you will be able to ride but they will try everything possible to let you ride, trust me. They have limited horses, wranglers (guides), and have other rides that were booked long before you showed up, lets face it they are not going to cancel on customers that had scheduled before because you were driving down the road and said "I wanna ride a horse", yes they do take "walk ups" and tell you that there are horses coming back from rides but those horses might already be booked for the next ride and/or they don't have a wrangler to take you. They also have to assign you to a horse that suits your riding ability, not all horses are great for novice riders. Yes i can see how you'd be frustrated waiting for so long and they shouldn't have kept saying 15 more mins, but HELLO the world doesn't revolve around you and things happen that they can't control, maybe it was only gonna be 15 more mins, but a wrangler got sick or a horse got hurt, you never know! My 10 yr old daughter and I had an exciting and fun time trail riding at Cypress Trails. The trail ride was very fun, safe and our rangler John was extremely informative and nice. My daughter is an english rider and im a self-taught rider (hang on or fall off ), but both of us have had our horse riding experiences (my daughter is the expert). We did a walk, trot, canter ride and had a blast! Cypress Trails paired us up with great horses Jolly and Isan(?), and unlike other trail rides I've been on growing up, we actually got to RIDE the horse instead of the usual sit and walk. I felt very relaxed too in the canter; John took us to the "fire circle" so we could get used to our horses before we began on the trail; That helped my english riding daughter alot too! We are going back in December and will probably request the same horses and guide. read more

The employees are super rude and even if you tell them that it's your first time riding they still don't care . Just checking in was a mess the girl in the front had no idea what she was doing we paid online and for some reason they didn't have us on the list . It took us about 30 Minutes to get a horse and start going , because the employees were all over the place they didn't know what horses to bring out . During the trail my husband fell off his horse ! Because they didn't tie the saddle right , and we know this because one of the employee that helped him get up told him . This place is so unsafe specially if you take kids with you , the trails are nice but if you have some kind of experience it was our first time and they made us do things that weren't safe . We have been here a few times and I have never written a bad review about any company but this place is awful. The kids that work there cuss like sailors which I didn't appreciate since I was bringing my daughter for riding lessons. Also we signed up for a riding lesson today and they put her with a girl much younger than her who was having problems with the horse she was on and brought my daughter back after 30 min even though we paid for an hour. This place is mismanaged and they never seem to be prepared for even the people who make reservations. read more

Last Sunday was my first visit to this ranch. I enjoyed our 1.5 hour trail ride. The staff was friendly, experienced and good at making an inexperienced rider comfortable! I cant remember if his name was Rob or Bob but he was great!!! And I believe he just mainly volunteers here. I got sick from being dehydrated (no fault of theirs, it was because I didn't drink enough water and it was extremely hot that day) and he stayed behind with me while the others returned to the ranch to make sure I was okay and guided me back safely. Braedon is deaf/mute but his experience and handling of the horses is unmatched!!!!! He's excellent! Michelle was an experienced tour guide as well. She was prepared and had some liquid Potassium stuff that helped with my dehydration and it worked wonders!!!!!! And quickly, I believe it was called KM9!?! I would definitely return! Despite my brief heat exhaustion sickness I still enjoyed my trail ride overall :-) The horses were so mild and behaved. I fell in love with my horse, King!!!!! Great location. Many options to chose from. 70+ horses and a friendly and courteous staff. They provide helmets, cold water, fanny packs and whatever you need to make your ride as pleasant as possible. They are very attentive to special needs. We took the 1-hour ride option which was about 75% in complete to partial shade along some creek. My grandkids were asking when they can come back before the end of the ride. We'll be back for sure. We were beginners, 3 adults and 1 child 9 years old. They matched us perfectly with horses on which we could be safe and comfortable, and have fun. They were extra attentive to our 9 year old who started out a bit nervous but they kept up a banter with him until next thing he knew we were off and riding. Definitely will go back. read more

If you want to book time for a horse to follow the horse in front of you, go for it. DOWN'S: 1. During my ride, the front guide was a deaf instructor (great guy, awesome attitude and always ready to help), however, and as a feedback comment to the instructor closing the group during the ride, this guy will not hear your screaming instructions to the group and can perfectly keep on riding when the rest of us stop for a "potty break"...yes, like a kindergarden!!!! 2. 50% of the trail is boring, passing by electric towers, and, are you ready? The trail will take you through a couple of REMAX advertisements for an open house!!! WOW!!! What a way to disconnect from the hectic city life. 3. You are asked to get there 30 minutes early to manage the paperwork and be ready for a punctual departure. The lady who booked me and my daughter in gave us the name of our horses and then we had to give them to 3 different people during a 50' waiting time!!! 4. Too much talking about irrelevant stuff by the girl instructor!!! Please allow your customers to appreciate the silence and sounds of our mother nature... PRO's: 1. As I mentioned, the deaf instructor was awesome, Kudos to Cypress Trails for this. Conclusion: Not going back again. For the time that I have to invest in driving there, and the money that I have to spend, I will find a better value proposition. read more

I love this place. Had my first ride here yesterday, and arrived a bit early. The staff was very friendly, and let me walk around and get to know the horse i was supposed to be riding, Buddy. I will say that as the ride started it was a bit disheveled as I was scheduled for a two hour ride and they put me and a few other people that had arrived late in the wrong groups. They quickly sorted it out though and we were back on the trail. My guide was John, and he was very informative and straight to the point on how to handle the horses ect. I will also say that they do give you horses based on riding skill and level.The horse i was on needed a bit firmer direction to go, but the horses the children were on were well behaved and John watches out for the children closely. I recommend this to anyone that wants a friendly atmosphere and a good ride. Just let them know what your level of riding is and you can go as fast or as slow as youd like! read more

I am writing this review because I feel this business has been unfairly targeted. We were booked for a ride in April for our 1st wedding anniversary but due to the flood it was canceled, we did go there to see if it might still be on and we were met with very tired concerned staff who were clearly doing all they could to ensure the safety of the animals. They were very nice and friendly while we talked to them and I got a huge sense that they were a strong and dedicated team. They said they would call when they were up and running but after thinking about it I called and asked for a refund (as we are new here from England it is very hot for us so I decided we would rebook in cooler months) and they were so understanding and helpful. You look at any natural disaster and countless pets and animals are left behind whilst humans flee, that is not what happened here the staff and owner stayed behind against such odds to try to do their best. You cannot expect perfection, but the team are anything but heartless. We will see you later this year! read more
