Does not deserve any stars. I took two grandkids so they could go on a trail ride. They were taken by employee on the trail ride.My youngest granddaughter is 7 and had to go on pony ride but after I had paid I was told I was the one that had to walk her around . A pony ride is a half hour and it was very hotand I'm over 60 and Even now eight hours later I still feel the effects of the heat. What I should have known to do was to question why I was the one that had to walk her around when I had just paid $30 . What was the $30 fee for then? There were at least 5 or 6 young people doing nothing but standing around. Weren't they the ones that are supposed to be taking the kids on the pony ride? No one minds paying for service as long as they get good service. At least writing this review Will convince others not to go there read more

booked a private ride for my birthday and was honestly one of the greatest gifts I've ever given myself! The ride was beautiful, and beyond serene! So many cool different paths to take and all of them full of lush greenery. I was a bit worried about that since the freeze in February turned most of Houstons plants brown, but its almost as if this place was untouched! And the staff was super helpful and kind, from the beginning of signing waivers to getting riding instructions, and OF COURSE our kick ass tour guide!! Jacobi made the day super special, his energy was unmatched, and brought all the good vibes and definitely made my experience better than expected. He was so kind and outgoing and a treat to be around. I felt bad when passing the other groups because they just didn't seem to be having as much fun! Needless to say, I'll be requesting him when I go back. And last but not least, the horses were BEAUTIFUL and awesome. I've never ridden a horse before and it was pretty easy to learn, but between the selection of horses and the staff I think I really lucked out. My family and I had a great time at Cypress Trails! The horses are beautiful and look well cared for. The property is clean and inviting. My children enjoyed their first trail ride very much, and felt safe and competent under the leadership and guidance of their wranglers. The entire experience, from scheduling to dismount, was smooth. The management and staff members are professional and personable-it seemed obvious to me that they truly love the animals and working with others. I've gone to Cypress Trails twice for their 1.5 hr trail ride (one with a Groupon and one with the Yelp Deal). The last time I went horseback riding was probably when I was around 6 years old, so I was definitely nervous but excited. The reservation process was simple and I was able to book a ride within 1-2 weeks in each case. You can actually use a Groupon on Saturdays "+$10 per rider" (maybe holidays too but just call to ask). They match you with a horse based on your height and weight. I've had the pleasure of riding with Aria and Wizard. :) The horses are lovely and the staff are friendly. At the start of your ride, you'll meet your horse and take it over to have a drink of water. A staff member will come to you and help you get onto your horse. This can take a little while for everyone in the group to get on their horses but once you're up, you can just get to know your horse while your horse munches on some hay. Don't freak out if you're not initially with your party because after the start of the trail, you'll go to an open area for a quick briefing and they'll arrange you in order according to parties. As for what to wear for the casual rider, I wore jeans one time and I wore leggings the next, either were fine. For footwear, I wore sneakers both times and had no issues. Their recommendation is long pants and closed-toe shoes. You can bring your own helmet (any kind of bike, skateboard, etc.) or borrow one of theirs. They recommend you bring along minimal belongings (lock it in the car and leave keys with the front desk) as they've had numerous instances where items are lost on trail. You can also borrow a fanny pack from them if you like. The first time I went my boyfriend was confident enough to carry a phone and car keys in his own pockets. This was nice because we were able to snap some photos. The second time I went with a friend and we didn't want to risk anything so we brought nothing except my car key secure in a zippered pocket. I was a bit bummed we wouldn't be able to take any photos but then we asked a staff member if she could take some for us at the end of the ride and she agreed to send them later! I didn't receive them at first due to a text messaging size limit but didn't know that was the case until she texted me to see if I received them! I said I hadn't received them yet and it might be easier to try email instead. I nicely received the photos the next morning. If I had gone any later into the year, I'm sure sunscreen insect repellent would be a must. Hydration before your ride is always good. Lastly, they accept credit card and cash. Tipping your wranglers is also highly recommended. I'm pretty sure I'm hooked on horses and will be considering lessons! Thanks Cypress Trails. read more

It was a lot of our first time riding horses, but both of them really helped us feel comfortable. Our horses were so well trained to listen to us as we guided them. The trails are so magical and peaceful! I will definitely be coming back as often as I can. Great place. Very relaxed setting. Nature park trails with a little river flowing nearby. Great staff. Great horses. Easy to find. Krispy Kream donuts very close. :) Visited from Montreal in June with family. It was our first time in Texas and choosing to visit this place was definitely a good idea. Three of our group took an hour and a half trail ride. Bring your kids. They'll love it. Some can ride before they can walk. :) (I read in a book that was set in Tibet.) Even though all were beginners, the staff explained well the techniques of riding. You don't have to dress up like a cowboy or cowgirl, but don't forget to bring some sort of closed shoes, even running shoes- no sandals or flip-flops. :) Have fun and enjoy your visit! read more

Beautiful trails nice tour guide had lots of fun! Surprisingly weren't bitten/eaten up by mosquitos (maybe they prefer the horses lol). I would recommend bringing your own helmet as some of them have gotten a little gross for a clean freak (but you will likely need to shower after anyways from sweet and horse smell lol) so not a deal breaker. We did a 1.5 hour trail ride. This was my 25th birthday gift. I loved every single moment of it. All staff members were very welcoming, helpful and respectful (including our little wrangler guide, Justin). Staff made sure that every rider was properly equipped, safety overall. My niece and I booked a private 2 hour trail ride and we had a blast! I can't say enough good things about Sam, our wrangler. She answered all of our questions, taught us basic rein holds, etc., and led us on a really fun ride. We will definitely request her when we go back. The horses they matched us with were in excellent condition and were very responsive and willing. The porta-potty was clean and did not have an odor. So I planned a trip to Texas with family and friends and we all wanted to go horseback riding. I have a son on the spectrum so we called weeks ahead and asked as many questions as possible. Me and my family were first time riders. Our wrangler Dianne hopefully I spelled her name right was awesome. She told us what we should and shouldn't do and yelled if needed when someone wasn't listening. To many they may not like that but honestly it's either you do it right or you can fall on your ass or hurt the horse so I'm listening. She was funny and informative, the trail was scenic and shady. Dianne also told us history from around there so it was nice. Honestly she made the ride all the more fun and quite an experience. All in all I would definitely recommend , we all had fun and my son sure did enjoy it! Hoping to go back to ride and hopefully get Dianne as our wrangler one more time! She made quite the impression!! And so did the rest of the staff. Thank you for the awesome experience and for being ontop of my special needs son. It meant the world to me! read more

We drove an hour here because of all the good reviews. As soon as we arrived, they were having technical difficulties which caused a little delay in getting checked in. This was tolerable. Waited around for them to get my 9 year old and her father a horse. I waited with my 4 year old for a pony. What they brought out was not a pony but an old, grown, tall horse who is almost completely blind. I was pretty skeptical about letting her ride this horse. They handed him over to me (which was a complete surprise). I figured somebody trained should be walking my daughter. They didn't explain much and just told me to "walk him like a dog." After 30 min or so, I walked around slowly and tried to get their attention when he would try to steer the other way. Out of no where a sheep comes running out and they are trying to chase him... it comes close to the horse my daughter is on.. nobody said a word or tried to get our horse to walk away from him knowing it would spook him. So, the horse was spooked which caused my daughter to fall off. We are extremely lucky that she is without a scratch and is fine. But this could have ended really bad. If there was no pony available, that should have been relayed to me while I was booking an appointment over the phone. The lack of communication and structure of this place is why I am giving 2 stars. Nothing was given for compensation. The people here are kind but this could have easily been prevented. Organization and structure really need to be worked on. We did not use a complete hour that we paid for which I think should have been refunded right away. read more

I had previously been to Cypress Trails for the 2 hour horse ride and had a great experience but I took my sister's family and mine this past winter and it was a completely different experience. When we arrived we were greeted by super friendly staff and everyone was extremely willing to help, as before, but once we were assigned the group that would lead us the dynamics changed. Our group leader was a young man self-nicknamed as "Cowboy" who's cockiness and arrogance was blatant from the beginning. He would roll his eyes at rider's questions and scoff our lack of knowledge with dealing with the horses. These rides are specifically focused to make a trail ride available to people who have no previous knowledge of ranch life but here we were being made fun of for being nervous around horses. The trail was beautiful, the rest of our escorts were quiet and blended in with the rest of the group. Everything was pretty much enjoyable until my 2 year old niece fell of her horse. Mind you, we specifically asked, well in advance, if her riding alone was ok. We trusted in their professionalism and prior experiences. I had previously allowed my 3 year old son to ride alone (the same horse was assigned to both several years apart) and it was a great experience then but maybe my this trail was a bit bumpier and she just couldnt stay on. The older gentleman that was pulling her horse was extremely attentive, caring, and concerned with my niece. His horse actually got spooked and almost trampled my niece as she was falling off but he was able to control his horse, get off, and finally reach her and help my sister pick her up. The three of them had to walk the rest of the trail back but he sang songs to my niece and made sure she felt safe and secure. This incident made 'Cowboy's' face tense up and he just stopped, turned around, and stared as it all happened. Once that incident was controlled and the rest of us were told to keep going we rode for like 10 minutes before a teenaged girl fell off her horse as well. She fell hard on her back as her mother screamed. Cowboy again turned his horse, looked back at them, and this time he couldnt hold his tongue. He asked the girl, before she could even get her composure, if she would just hurry up and get back on. He frowned his face and said, "Pretty soon I'll be ponying you all back". I'm assuming 'ponying' means walking someone on a horse while pulling the horse's rope. He stayed on his horse with no intent on assisting for a good 5 minutes that seemed like forever as we all stared in disbelief. None of the other escorts got off to help either. The girl's mom of course got off as best she could and helped her daughter. Cowboy finally decided to walk his horse over to them, they talked briefly (we couldnt hear, it was a big group). He walked his horse back to the front of the line and we left. I'm assuming one of their team members stayed behind with the girl and her mother. They walked up after we had already gotten off the horses with clear shame in their faces. After getting off our horses and while walking back to take off our helmets and hang them up Cowboy was trying to walk a horse back to the stables. I never saw the horse yank back but before we knew it Cowboy was punching the horse in the face with a closed fist and in a pretty vicious way - in front of everyone! Including all the kids there and cursing at the horse to stop it. I'm not sure what he was supposed to stop but I was fed up of him by now and just walked away. My 8 year old asked me several times after that why that guy punched the horse. I had no answer for him. This establishment had left us in awe the first time we went. It was organized, clean, all of the employees there have always been extremely caring, informative, and attentive - up until now. The only complaint I would have had about it was that there are no indoor restrooms (there is a port-a-potty outside) but after this experience I have no desire to go back. As I drove back home I told myself I'd call and inform the manager of this situation but my sister and her family were visiting from out of town and I just never got to it. If it werent for the email reminders to review the establishment I would have probably never come around to it. I hope this young man is talked to because if not he's going to run off a lot of clientele with that attitude. read more

My daughter enjoyed a trail ride today. The staff was awesome. I have seen places start timing the ride time from the minute you are in the saddle. I was pleasantly surprised that our ride time didn't begin until after everyone was mounted and the group had heard the safety demonstration. Our guide was conscience of the riders at all times. I am a teacher, and can be critical of unattentive leaders. I loved how he was aware but relaxed with the group. One rider got spooked and yelled. He calmly explained how she should handle it and moved on. My daughter volunteers at a camp with horses. She observed there where other staff observing us and walking along until everyone felt secure. We have experience around horses at camp that works with children. We thought it was a great place to ride. The trails had a nice amount of shade. The horses we rode were well groomed, sweet natured, and obedient. One other thing I would like to mention is we were given water bottles for the ride. It was a sweet gesture. read more

So I came to cypress trails on Saturday March 9th. I'm not from Houston, I'm from Alabama so getting to go out to a sort of rural area and out of the city was nice. I adore animals and interacting with them so when I did my research on trail rides I came across cypress trails. We got there, it did not take long to get going and hop on our horses. I had Atlas and he was a joy to ride, my fiance had Blitz and he enjoyed him as well. We will definitely be back again, hopefully I can ride Atlas again because he was perfect! I'm sure plenty of the horses would be just as great We really enjoyed our time here and we can't wait to visit again! read more

This place is absolutely awesome. I had 3 kids from South Korea here last Christmas and they were able to accommodate and teach them what they needed to know to ride. My fiance surprised me with a horseback trail ride for my birthday. He and I, along with Darolyn, took a 3+ hour trail ride along the Cypress and Spring creeks. Darolyn was sweet, funny, full of information and extremely knowledgeable about her horses. We stopped halfway for lunch (which we ordered ahead of time) and met Leif (spelling?), who was very nice. I loved the environment there at the farm -- lots of friendly dogs wanting to fetch a ball or get a head scratch and an affectionate sheep who thought she was a dog. The horses were obviously well taken care of and in good shape. They had a variety of horses for different level riders and sizes. This wasn't a boring trail ride you might find at other places, where the horses plod along with their heads down just wanting to hurry back home to their pasture so they can graze. My horse, Wild Fire, had a personality and kept me challenged. I grew up on a ranch and rode horses my entire childhood, but haven't ridden in over 20 years, so I was a little nervous at first. The staff there was very friendly and helpful. They provide helmets (required), a bottle of water for the ride, a fanny pack for your phone and keys, and a keepsake bandana. About 3/4 of the trail is out in the open, and the other 1/4 under the cover of trees. My guess is on hot typical Houston days, the bug spray and sun screen they offer would be greatly appreciated, but we went on a cool, drizzly overcast day so we didn't have to worry about sun or mosquitos/gnats. I highly recommend this place to anyone who loves riding -- any level!!! read more

There was an older couple with us from another country so that was an experience in itself since English was not their language but they made it through. This place has been running for long enough to know how to properly prepare for a flood especially with its history! Why where the horses left tied up and outside during a flood warning?!? Because of the owners negligence those poor horses had to pay the price! I personally find it unacceptable what happen at this barn. read more
