Really liked this Detroit style pizza. Great sauce on top, perfectly spiced sausage and loved the crispy edge deep style crust. Delicious!

The rest of the week is reset for private events. First, the venue is the perfect place to sit outside and enjoy the large property when the weather is nice. There are a couple of buildings with outdoor seating as well as indoor space for events. There is a large flat screen TV by the bar inside the main building if you would like to sit and enjoy a game, etc. They have outdoor live entertainment which was very nice to sit back and listen to the music. They also had a few yard games which people were enjoying. The website isn't quite up to date as it instructs you to bring your own picnic supplies, non alcoholic beverages, etc. as they just serve beer. However, they do provide paper plates and napkins a well as have a full bar including some wine and non alcoholic beverages for purchase. Sawmill had a set menu of a few thin crust pizza options as well as a handful of seasonal pizzas. No additional pizza toppings allowed but you can ask for a topping to be removed if you don't like it. Our group ordered a Pep Fest which is tomato sauce, pepperoni, co-jack and a Trippin' Balls which is tomato sauce, mushrooms, green peppers, onions, sausage, mozzarella. The pizza was okay. Toppings are limited. The pizzas are cooked in an outdoor wood fired pizza oven so we were expecting more of a crispy thin crust pizza. The pizza dough is not crispy but soft and doughy. Not exactly what we were expecting but the flavor was pretty good. Every employee we encountered was nice and everyone seemed to enjoy working there. It's a nice place to hang out, have a drink and enjoy the outdoors and live entertainment.

5 stars - definitely worth the stop if you're in the area!…read more I really enjoyed my first visit to Sawmill Pizza & Brew Shed. It's out in a rural area, quite a trek west of downtown Clear Lake. But they have plenty of signs directing the way. And "yes", back in the day, it used to be a real working sawmill. I was skeptical when my 2 Wisconsin friends invited me to hang out at Sawmill on a Sunday. Only open 1 day a week on Sundays? Only open from 2:30 to 7:00? Only 4 kinds of pizza? Yes, it's true! But it's great! The property is huge, many acres with tons of parking. They have multiple buildings, outdoor activities, a lake across the street, live music, pizza, beer, and soda. The whole atmosphere is like a super chill county fair - awesome! The custom pizzas are great too. They're all the same size - large. The pizza is neopolitan style & cooked in a brick fired oven. The flavor options are great. They're all, basically, giant gourmet Italian style pies. They can definitely compete with any fancy-dancy pizza joint in the Twin Cities (minus the snobbery). The beer options are excellent. They have a bunch of interesting craft beers on tap in addition to standard options in cans & bottles. Finally, this place is run like a clock. They're extremely well organized. Everyone is super friendly too. That goes for the staff as well as the guests. (No pets or outside alcohol allowed.) For those of you that may be interested, Sawmill does special events too. LOW CARB: It was a little tricky eating low carb, carnivore style at Sawmill. Basically, I picked the pizza with the most meat & the thickest toppings and I scraped all the toppings off the doughy crust. It worked fine. I ate all the toppings and none of the high carb dough. And I saved the crust for the family of noisy crows that visits me every morning. So everyone was happy...me, my buddies, and my feathered friends. A big thumbs up! -Maxx

So I was quite excited to try this place here in my very small town. As a Yelp Elite squad member…read moreI base almost all of my decisions when trying new places on reviews. Especially during travel. I ordered takeout. Not sure if it was just a bad day or what, but when you are a bit spendy you should take extra care in maintaining good quality food in takeout as much as dining in. I ordered the New Glarus beer battered onion rings, They were soggy, if they had packaged these in brown paper bags this problem would have been greatly diminished as a former restaurant manager. For 9$ I had to come home and put them in the oven to make them crispy again. Also, being a Chicagoan I am a pizza freak. When claiming to be a brickfire pizza place, your crust should be crispy on the bottom yet still chewy. NOPE! It was boxed and sitting in a PILE of grease making my 14$ small pizza very soggy. Very disappointed and probably won't return. I'd rather drive far for good pizza for what I paid for at this establishment. ** update**. Tried to give this place another chance and what a waste of every penny. We figured instead of the pizza this time (being that it was the ONLY place open). We'd try the sandwiches. I'm a Chicagoan and so I went for the "Italian Roast Beef". Big mistake, it was dryer than a desert road and all Italian roast beef sandwiches originating from Chicago should be served "wet" or at least a little "wet". My son ordered the philly and it was just as bad after we had to sit and watch the server stand there and stare into space only to leave to come back with something to write with and STILL didn't give my son the sandwich we ordered so he had to wait. She said she would take it off the bill and she took off 4$..... NEVER again. Don't do it.

Excellent food great service and a short detour...from anywhere! Try the mushroom swiss!…read moreAlso your favorite beverage...bottle, tap, or mixed drinks available. Cheers!

In the summer months, make sure you check out the exterior patio space which includes luscious green grass, yard games, a gazebo, fire pit, large benches, adirondack chairs and more. Offering wood fire pizzas, varying specials such as soups and sandwiches, along with kombucha on tap and other drinks, makes this a must stop. The cherry on top? Dogs are encouraged! We were fortunate enough to spend my grandpa's 103rd birthday here and enjoyed the atmosphere, friendly patrons and staff members. I'd like to thank the staff for allowing us to place our own tablecloth down and be so open to us serving cake to those near us. What a lovely evening we had! Note: check out the website for specialty classes such as yoga, art, and music. Some are located in the upstairs loft area while others, such as music, are outdoors. You could also use this as a small wedding venue!

The signage is great & the property is fantastic. Staff are welcoming, energetic and plentiful. There are a variety of products available for purchase, such as soap made from the beer... pretty cool. Add in the very reasonable pricing. We had 2 pints and pretzel bites for $10 after our discount. So, the 3 stars come down to a brewery is only as good as its beer. While they do have some decent guest taps, the in-house brews are lacking. Finish on the summer wheat was like alka seltzer, and the porter was only a touch better. Worth a visit? Absolutely! Though I'd likely choose a guest tap offering instead
