While in the Ashburn area, I dropped by to pick up some donuts to gift to someone for their birthday. The woman behind the counter knows how to market those donuts. She offered two donut holes, one yeast and one cake. She reels you in fast. I ordered glazed, chocolate frosted, and caramel glazed. They were no joke. Since I am not big on gourmet donuts, I didn't buy any of the fruit frosted donuts or any specialty pastry. The ones that I bought were good enough. I read some reviews about the prices. They post the prices prominently on the menu. It's just that you may get lured in with the sales pitch and forget the price associated with the purchase. I heard the donuts at this location sell out FAST! When we got there, the fabulous owner only had donut holes left..so we asked if the other location had donuts available (yes, they did.. and we went!). D & Ds place was inviting and is a happy place! Some of the best, if not theee BEST donuts in Chicago. I've been wanting to come here for a while now, but this location had been closed for renovations. I saw on their IG that they were open so I decided to stop by after one of my school visits. I was greeted by the cheery owner as soon as I stepped in. What a lovely human being. She gave me a run down of the menu and what they were known for. She even told me that I'd have to bring my kid in on report card day because they give out a free donut for A's. By the time I got there there wasn't much left, which to me was a good sign. I picked up four flavors. The icing was extraordinary. You could taste the real fruit used in the glaze. I had to show some sort of restraint to get them home so my wife could at least get a bite. She's not even a donut person but she sung high praise of these donuts and every time I'm in the area she asks me to pick her up a strawberry lemonade and an old fashioned sour cream donut. The Kedzie Ave shop was closed for repair, so we went to the LaGrange location, where we met the owners, Lolita and Devell. They are two of the nicest people you could ever want to meet. They are passionate about donuts, which is reflected in the quality of their product. We went there specifically to get their famous Apple Fritter for our son-in-law. We also picked up an assortment for our grandkids and grandpa. Everything was delicious, as my 2-year-old grandson likes to say. These are high quality donuts unlike anything I have ever had. The fact that I got several different kinds of donuts and on my first bite of the chocolate got full body goosebumps (in the store, and it's hot outside) is one thing. The menu has so many options including the infamous Apple Fritter. The Apple fritter was literally bigger than my face. I had to get it. I happen to be hosting my daughter's first birthday party in March; next-door to D & D's place. One of my guests said, I'm gonna go next-door to try this donut spot. She came back raving about how good the donuts were and how amazing the owners are. Slowly, guests started to drift next door to go buy donuts. A week later, I packed my kids up and went back to the "donut spot". My goodness, I don't think five stars is enough. My seven-year-old, says it should be at least 10 stars minimum. We have went three more times in the last 2 months. You can taste the love in every bite! This place is fantastic!! I have visited this donut shop twice now, and both times were cute and easy. There's a real sweet lady behind the counter that is always ready to offer a taste sample. She also just told me they won the donut fest at the Chop Shop in January of this year. After having their delicious donuts, I understand why the won.
