The La Grange - Brookfield area is about mid way for my cousin and I to meet up. Lately we've tried some new places in the area and this month was Mary's Morning Mix-up. The place is cute, this egg hater loved the egg ceiling art (I don't know to better describe it). She ordered a salad and I got the strawberry banana crepes with a side of hash browns with cheddar. We were both pleased with our meals and service was attentive. We were seated right next to the bakery case, so we got to see the lovely loaves they had. My cousin ended up going home with some carrot cake roll slices and a round of the sourdough. The menu has something for everyone and there's a nice patio for warmer weather. Walking into this place felt like stepping straight into a musical. It was whimsical, charming, and absolutely beautiful. We sat outside, and between the lovely décor and birds chirping nearby, it honestly felt like a little breakfast fairytale. Our server was very kind and welcomed us with donut samples since it was our first visit. Let me tell you, those donuts were so good they practically wrote their own sales pitch, we ended up buying some to take home. The restaurant was busy, and our server was definitely moving at top speed, but he remained friendly and attentive throughout our visit. I ordered the strawberry banana parfait, and at first I was really enjoying it. Unfortunately, partway through the meal I found a hair in my parfait, which immediately ruined the experience for me. I also noticed stains on some of the silverware. I understand that restaurants get busy, but cleanliness is one of those things that really matters. It's disappointing because there was so much to like here. The atmosphere was wonderful, the donuts were delicious, and the staff was friendly. However, finding a hair in my food and noticing dirty silverware made it difficult to fully enjoy the experience. I'm hoping this was just an off day, because this place has a lot of charm and potential. The Mary's Mimosa (with all the juices mixed together) is my go-to and such a fun twist on a brunch classic. The vibe is always welcoming, the service is quick, and their outdoor patio is perfect in the summer. I love bringing out-of-town guests here because it's such a cheerful, local favorite. Cool little place hidden away in a residential area of Brookfield. It has a patio so it feels like you're almost in someone's backyard or something. Mary's Morning Mix Up is a breakfast place first and foremost, but that doesn't mean you can't eat here other times. Also it's popular as brunch and has some good items for later in the day such as sandwiches and burgers. The portions are a pretty good size for price. At breakfast it has lots of various things with eggs. It's even got a pretty fun looking egg theme going on. There's more than just eggs though. Go at lunch for something else. We came at lunch to get some kind of sandwiches. A lot to choose from. There's burgers, melts, and wraps. It's about $15 for an entree. There's a Bean Burger that can come on a bun, or it can be in a wrap. It comes with a choice of a side. The burger goes the best with the fries though. Lots of the other items on the menu are covered in cheese. The prices are okay for the big portions it seems. Even though this is a small place it didn't feel that crowded with everyone. It has a nice patio that's open when it's nice enough out. They're also open for dinner with about everything you can get on the lunch menu meaning you can eat whenever. read more

My only regret is that I didn't try this place sooner! Every aspect of my dining experience was memorable. A variety of crepes, pancakes, skillets and other brunch items. For those with gluten sensitivities, there's GF pancakes, GF French toast and GF bread. The mimosas (reg, grapefruit or pineapple) are $10 each, bloody Mary's with Grey Goose are $13. On average, you can expect to spend $10-20 per entree, but the portions are generous. If you like cinnamon donuts, you'll likely buy more than what's complimentary. They're delicious. Pineapple mimosa - 5/5 Mary's special crepes - 5/5 Donuts - 5/5 Hash browns - 4/5 Service was very good, especially for a busy day. Waited a bit for a straw and to go boxes but with such a cute decor and window view, it was time well spent. I'll definitely be back. If you decide to give it a try, you'll likely become a fan too! This is a great local diner. Their food is exactly as you expect from a diner, but there are some nice pleasant surprises too. Drinks are good. The service is ALWAYS friendly and accommodating. I love their staff. Inside it's a lot like a standard diner, but decorated quite a bit better, especially at the holidays. They also do a really cool raffle for prizes that supports local kids charities. MMM is definitely worth a visit and has become one of our go-to spots! read more

When you walk into a diner and it's like you walked into Wednesday night bingo with the silent generation, you know you picked the right spot. I went on a random weekday morning and felt like I was joining the club. Staff members were so friendly and even acknowledged my first time visit with some welcome yummies. From the moment you walk into Mary's Morning Mix-Up, you're overwhelmed by the lighthearted and joyful decor and staff. The restaurant is decked out in colorful Christmas decor for the holidays. There are cute little sculptures and details tucked all over the place that make it special, unique and fun. Everyone was really friendly and we were served fresh warm cinnamon sugar donuts (free on your first visit)! This definitely has a small town diner feel, we were serenaded by a toddler at the table next to us, the whole restaurant sang happy birthday to one of the guests, and the service was outstanding. Our food was fresh and came quickly.. decent portions but the prices are a little on the higher side for a breakfast joint. The service is always really great here. We came in for breakfast and they have some really good options. Went with the Mary's mix skillet and a kids snowman pancake with bacon scarf. As a local who wants to keep great businesses in town, this review is constructive criticism. I'm sorry but I have to give 2 stars after 2 terrible dining experiences. Today was one. I was walking to another local morning place and changed my mind because you have a great patio, and I wanted to eat outside. Now, yes, the staff said no problem to being outside, but it was not set up to be inviting (no umbrellas up, nothing wiped down from the rain) and I felt like I was putting the staff out. So, I ate inside. My real issue comes with the food. My last experience was under cooked waffles. My server then telling me that's how they come. I left hungry because doughy waffles are not pleasant. And now, again, today, I left hungry and thirsty. Why thirsty? I drink water ( I will say, your staff knows how to push beverages) and your water today and never before... smelled & tasted like it came straight from Salt Creek. The thin slice of lemon didn't cover it. Now for my meal. I got the Mary Skillet, and it sounded good on the menu, but it was terrible. Oily, flavorless and salty. The egg was cooked correctly, but that's where the good part ened. I wasn't even sure potatoes were in there. I understand it comes with bacon and sausage, but it was overwhelming. It was just a greasy mess. It came with toast, but my toast must have been set to 1. It seemed like it was also made earlier. It was chewy. No crunch you would get from toast. Not sure you have more than 2 jelly flavors because all my table had was orange and grape. Unfortunately, today left an undesirable reason to return. I used to love the food, but it seems I must be ordering the wrong things. As for service, it's fine. I was greeted and checked on when she dropped the check. read more
