I took my car in as a referral from the Facebook Cedarpark women's group. As I accelerated, I was getting a vibration it felt like the motor. My husband originally thought it was spark plugs and changed those and did not work. My brother-in-law mentioned it could be a transmission. Dropped it off and within a day, they had diagnosed the transmission having problems. They put an additive in the transmission fluid, which stopped the vibration instead of trying to sell me a whole new transmission. They can't guarantee how long it's going to last because the transmission is actually Having issues but he said it could last 100 miles or 100,000 miles. as a teenage girl, this was my first oil change. I own a 2021 Toyota Corolla, and I was charged $132. My sister went a couple days later, only difference was her car was a 2022, and they only charged her $80. After we pointed out the discrepancy, they only apologized. I understand I didn't do my research, but there are other places that offer this service for half the price and the oil lasts more than 1,000 miles. read more

This shop has become victim of its own success. They are way overloaded. I think they can't handle new clients any more. Appointments for me had been ad-hoc. Dan just randomly picks few days out and says come after few days. I am not sure if he is putting it on his calendar. And when I get there on that day, he says we are so busy come back again after few days. WTF ? I gave them benefit of doubt once. But I ain't have time for this. My boyfriend recommended this place to me. I brought my car in because the AC is broken and I needed an oil change. We explained that I've had freon added multiple times and it must be a leak because after a day or so it always stops working again... I also made sure to explain that I wanted quotes before hand because my car probably isn't worth a $1000 and I didn't want some big bill that was worth a third of my car. They ended up doing a lot more than I requested and charged me almost $300, exactly like I didn't want. Brought my old chevy in after installing headers and a new built engine just needed exhaust work done didnt try to upsell me on extra work but the price was double my usual exhaust guy who was booked solid. Two months later all 6 bolts at the collectors backed out and dropped leaving me with open headers also the mounts broke. Then the guy doing the install literally thought running the pipe against the spare tire was a good idea causing a hole to burn threw the tire. was looking for a repair shop close to my house. but don't want to use one of those corporate shops that have people that don't care and squeeze you for every penny to send up the corporate ladder. so i saw D&K was close by. took my grandson's car to him. it was running very rough. it didn't have any trouble codes. he found a wire harness that had some bad wiring and repaired it. if you don't know, wiring issues can be difficult to track down and you can be charged a lot. I brought one of my cars into a "big name" garage in the area for some service. After a ridiculous estimate, I brought the car over to this shop based on a recommendation from my cable guy (of all people). That's where I found out that I only needed half of the "recommended" work done. Saved me a ton of cash. It's easy to miss their turn off from the highway, but it's worth the drive over there. Dan is just a nice guy - straight up. He took ten or fifteen minutes of his time on the phone just to look up information about recommended service schedules with me. I found a hidden gem in Leander. I needed some exhaust repairs on a 2003 Montero that I just bought. The quotes from Austin and Cedar Park shops were extremely high. I do most of my repairs myself. I talked to the guys at Advance auto parts and they said I should go to D&K and talk to Dan. They really need a sign on Crystal Falls. I finally found it and Dan took great care of my exhaust issue at a fair price. I will always take my cars to Dan when it is beyond my basic skills. I put a desperate plea on my neighborhood web-site looking for an honest mechanic who would stand behind his work & not rip a single Mom off. I was referred to D & K. My husband recently deployed to Afghanistan. Up until the day he left, him & our 16 year old son worked sun up to sun down to get our son's first car on the road. Unfortunately they ran in to "electrical issues" that would not allow the car to pass inspection. Husband hops on a plane without a car they worked on together for 6 months being on the road. I call Dan, explain our situation & get his word that he will do us right & stand behind his work. A sense of relief came over me. I thought I had found someone close by that I can rely on over the deployment. Monday morning I stop at HEB put in $20 gas, drive to D & K to drop off car. Dan was kind enough to drive me back home. Calls me & quotes me $250 to get electrical piece (brake lights/blinkers) & horn working, also an inspection sticker. He calls me the next day to say it was ready. Pay Dan. Everyone's happy. As I am leaving his shop I run out of gas less than a quarter of a mile from his shop. He was kind enough to come help me get the car started with a couple gallons of gas along w/a passer byer. I thanked him kindly. I said "I owe you one" He says. "Don't worry about it" (I need to add that I called him 2 times that week when I was getting a coffee & bagel. I wanted to bring by a bucket of bagels & coffee to thank him) I got no answer either time. It crossed my mind that he had caller ID and probably thought I was having issues w/car and he didn't want to deal with me. Anyway, next step is to get car registered. Fail. Apparently where Dan took the car, they did not give him a proper paper for an out of state vehicle. No big deal. I try to call Dan again to find out where he got the car inspected. No answer. I locate an address on the inspection receipt. Drive to the place. That is when I realized how it was possible for me to run out of gas. It was way the heck out there. Finally, car is inspected & registered! My son & husband are happy! First stop Cedar Park Saturday night car show! (Did I mention it is a red 69 Pontiac LeMans?) Stop and get some gas at Signature, an suv was backing out of storefront, got pretty close to our car, I went to honk to alert them, HORN DOESN'T WORK! Proceed on...We pull in only to get greeted by a bunch of car show spectators telling us how our brake lights & blinkers are criss crossed and one of our running light are out as well as a reverse light. So at this point everything D&K had done and charged me $250 for doesn't work. I call them first thing Monday morning to let Dan know. Of course he is slammed and busy. I explain to him that my son would like to drive his car on Valentines Day. Didn't happen... I get the car in on Tuesday morning... he calls me Tuesday afternoon saying it's ready. I stop and get a $20 out to give him for standing behind his work & for the gas help. My 16 year old son & I go in his office and he tells me I owe him nearly $150!! What??? I asked him to explain the charges... First charge was $15 for the gas he helped me with! That is just plain old UN-AMERICAN if you ask me. What kind of decent shop owner gives a car back to a customer on EMPTY knowing HE was the one who drove it across town to get it inspected! At this point I am not sure how it even passed inspection! The other charges were the same things we paid for the first time! Bottom line... with a cocky attitude he waived the labor and just charged me for the "GAS" and parts. I am not sure what kind of gas he got for $15 in a little red container but for the record I kept my $20 & blessed our waiter with it that night when we went out for dinner. The waiter was appreciative of us getting screwed over by the mechanic,, it made his night more profitable! I will never go there again. He did not stand behind his work as promised and was a complete jerk when I had to bring the car back. He could of had a customer for life but instead I will warn folks about his character. The most disappointing thing is that my 16 year old son had to witness his dishonesty first hand. It was really hard to keep my composure and pay Dan but I did. It was a good life lesson for my son. The service is impeccable. I've used D&K multiple times -- 2003 Saab, 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe, 2001 Saturn Vue. In all cases, they've been straight, honest, fast, and reasonably priced. They have fixed or checked problems for free. I call them when I have questions and they ALWAYS take the time to answer anything, even if it means that I don't take the car in because they've fixed my problem over the phone. It's amazing to find a company that truly stands up for customer service in the automotive industry -- well, now you've found one. I'm very comfortable with this place. It sucks being a woman who's not all that knowledgeable in auto mechanics and doesn't have a mechanic that she really trusts. When I go to the big name places they look carefully for every possible thing they can find that's not in optimal condition and tell you that it has to be replaced ASAP and it'll cost $700. I looked this place up when I had to replace something that would have cost me $1500. They fixed it for much less, plus taught me how to replace my own a/c and gave me the part I needed to do it. They always try to work within a reasonable budget, including calling around to junk yards for used parts, which the big name places refuse to do. I'm on a first name basis with the owner and his dog, Diesel. I do call ahead to make sure they have time before I come, and sometimes I have to wait a day or so. read more

Dan won't call anybody else's baby ugly. Meaning, there are plenty of automotive repair places in Leander/Cedar Park - and some are good, some are horrible. And you know the feeling when you get your car back and while you open the door you can't help but think, "damn, it couldn't have cost that much to repair." and then you think, "oh well, at least it's fixed." I haven't felt that way once while going to D&K (Dan). He'll shoot you straight. I went to him with brake repairs the first time. desperate. I could practically feel the brakes ripping apart my wheels, whenever i applied them. sure enough i called around and got some quotes for pads, 300.00 for both sides. Dan said it'd be 250.00 and he used WAGNER'S (top tier brakes) and added drums; plus i got a call later and he said i had a gas leak, and the back brakes were shot as well. So when i left it was 600.00 for (front, back) brakes pads/drums/gas line repair. Now, times being tough as they are, Dan came through like a champion. I really appreciate his shop being as accommodating as they are, and plan to use them for almost every other vehicle repair in the future. In my experience i expected to pay more for less, but was happy with the feeling that received an honest and a tremendous unexpected value that i have been unable to find in my search for car repairs (i have a Murano 07, HAD maxima 01 - got rid of). I was at my wits end, when I called D&K. I had gotten myself into a repair project that I found myself unable to finish. This is first time in 10 years of owning this truck that I have had to put it into the shop, having done all the maintenance and repair on it myself since we bought it used, so I was very careful in calling all the shops around before I took my truck to get fixed. I called them, and Dan agreed that he would use my own parts, but couldn't offer any warranty on it. That was fine by me. I drop my truck off, and I get a call from him the next morning. He informed me of some issues that were minor, and would need to be addressed, but wouldn't change the price. After getting into the vehicle, he found some startling issues that, in light of what he told me, explained a lot about what had been going on with my truck. By the end of the day, everything was fixed and my truck is actually driving better than it has over the last 3 years, all thanks to Dan and his crew paying attention to the details. Yes, it cost much more than originally worked out, but I also know that it's my fault for making mistakes because I trusted some of the cheap local auto parts stores to give me the right parts when I bought them.
