Traveled to the Austin area to attend a family reunion and see our granddaughter. While here, our check engine light came on in our F350. Had to find a diesel mechanic that was good, could fit us in, and wouldn't break the bank. Dependable Diesel was recommended to us by a fellow camper. Took our truck there. They diagnosed the issue as a bad DPF sensor along with finding a couple other items that would eventually cause us some issues if not addressed. Unfortunately, we only had the truck and the thought of being stranded at the shop all day waiting for my truck to be fixed was not good. Luckily, they had a loaner car that they offered to us. That was a life saver as we were about 20 miles from the shop. Needless to say, they were able to get my truck fixed in a couple of hours and were able to send us on our way. This review is long overdue. I live in Georgetown and called several shops about working on my 2006 diesel Ford F250 Super Duty 6.0. There was not one shop that would work on it and they didn't know who to refer me to. I went to the internet in search of a reputable shop with great reviews. I couldn't be any happier that I found Dependable Diesel & Car Care. I went to their website and spent the time and read about the business. The one thing that stuck out is you get what you pay for. My boyfriend had previously taken this truck to multiple other shops in the New Braunfels area and not one was able to fix the problems for good or address all of the issues. This shop is very knowledgeable at what they are doing and take pride in that. I have now taken my truck to them at least twice. Yes again like I said you get what you pay for and knowing that I have people working on my truck who actually know what they are doing gives me peace of mind. Amy and Amber kept me updated as to what issues were found and the cost. There were no surprises. They also go out of their way to make sure they have satisfied customers and a great product. I was having issues with the truck and I was broken down in a parking lot. Gary took his time to personally call me and FaceTime with me and walk me through the problem. I don't know many business that will provide that kind of customer service. Getting this truck we knew there were going to be problems and should have found this shop sooner as they have had to correct issues that other shops caused. That is always frustrating to know that an issue was not fixed previously and you previously paid for this same issue, but knowing it's now in the hands of people who truly know what they are doing is comforting. I heard good things about here but I got there and told Amy at the front desk issues I was having with my truck. She said no problem they could get it fixed. I was on vacation when they called me to say it was done and said they needed to collect pay now, even though I could not pick the truck up yet. Although we've only had our new shocks for 24 hours the truck definitely drives better. We are hopeful that they may help enough to allow the hubby to actually feel comfortable driving our fifth wheel. The tires are in good condition but they are the heavy duty off-road tires which also contribute to kind of a rough ride so we're thinking about that as well. Now let's talk about Dependable Diesel and Car Care. From the very beginning when I put feelers out as to a few companies that might do this work for us they were very responsive and willing to give us a quote based on what we thought we needed. It feels like so many companies are reluctant to do that, like we are going to hold them to an estimate. The definition of estimate "roughly calculate or judge the value, number, quantity, or extent of." The reason we really appreciate an estimate is we don't like to go into debt and even though we may put something on a credit card we always pay it off immediately. In particular with an auto repair we realize when they get the vehicle they may feel it's something completely different or that it's more than is needed or less may be needed and we simply expect a phone call of explanation before they go forward. So the fact that they gave us an estimate almost immediately was a huge sign of the excellent customer service to come. They worked with me on an appointment and actually could've taken it in sooner but I wanted to be sure I was able to budget for it, so no problem, they gave us an appointment in the time frame I requested. It was more convenient for us to drop it off the night before so that is what we did. We were shocked when they called us shortly before noon the next day to let us know the truck was ready to be picked up and all was well. The shocks and the repair came with a two-year warranty. I didn't get to meet her but the owners wife handles the books, the phone the appointments etc. and my hubby said she was very nice and very easy to work with. I believe we have found a new auto and truck repair company. Of course we're hoping we don't need to see them frequently but it's very comforting to know that we feel we have found someone that is fair and gives excellent customer service! They added a redhead gear box to tighten the loose steering up, diagnosed and cleared the check engine light that was on when I bought the truck last Fall, serviced the vehicle, changed the lock actuator in rear hatch that wasn't locking, and added some custom LED headlights that I had purchased and realized were above my skill set for installing. Horrible experience all the way around. AC system replaced including compressor and was Assured nothing else left. Picked up and drove off and hear big rattling sound from wheel. So took it right back and got that repaired. Not sure how they missed 1st check up. picked up the 2nd time and AC worked for 1 hour then started blowing hot. Took in thinking under warranty but a day later was told a hose and another $600 and ready in 2 days. Took over a week to get back, after ready tomorrow constantly.. drove off and it worked for a day. could not trust them anymore and sick of dealing with them and took to another place. they had to replace the new compressor because it already went bad due to not repairing correctly. Will be filing small claims as soon as I get time. read more

Brought my car to Dependable Diesel and Car care because of the 5 stars rating... Unfortunately they were far and beyond from a 5 stars rating.. Here is why: I ask for a tune up and was quoted " around $210 " The actual charges for the Tune up ended up at $486.66 (without prior communication on new charges) I also ask to perform a test drive as the car is stalling after driving 5 to 10 miles ( I had my car towed to the garage) Was told they drive the car for 20 minutes and it runs perfectly ( Great !!) I'd give 6 stars if I could. My wife's 2001 Subaru Outback had a head gasket leak (anyone with a Subaru from this era would be familiar). We had to make a decision, attempt to repair this vehicle, or, try to buy a replacement vehicle at a time of historically high used car prices. We opted to repair the vehicle and use for the next few years. Now, head gasket repair is SERIOUS engine work. Most shops don't do it, and the ones that do, you have to be sure they know what their doing. There's little room for error. It is on that note I stumbled upon Dependable Diesel, by recommendation from Yelp algorithm. Of course, it wasn't lost on me that the vehicle is NOT a diesel. I still sent them a message in the middle of the night, and received a response almost right away. Their quote beat all competitors, and was about a third of what the dealership suggested. Reassured by the timely messaging, and the numerous 5-star reviews, I decided to move forward with the repair. What I didn't realize was how busy the shop is. It did take a little longer than expected for them to start the job. However, once they started, they got it done quickly. When completed, they even delivered the car to me (I had difficulty getting off work when they were open). The car now runs great. It truly feels like it came back from the factory. Great price, great work and dealt with me being a bad customer. They were extremely competitive on pricing compared to everyone else in the area and just with talking with them I could tell they were not going to try to cheat me on the work they did. Many of the other local shops will find other things wrong with your vehicle along the way and insist it has to be fixed and its an extra charge. This wont happen with Dependable unless it is real. The driveway for the shop is a little hard to navigate as it is in a tight location but just brave it and work with them and you will be happy you did. read more

I would highly recommend these guys. I called lots of shops to try and get my truck in for repairs (2003 GMC Duramax 2500HD with the LB7. Most shops here in the Austin area only work on one brand of trucks. These guys do it all from cars to diesels. Gary is the best mechanic in the area. Every time I take a vehicle to someone else I'm reminded that Gary's service is first rate and worth the wait! I've been working with Gary since he was the chief mechanic at a large garage in Cedar Park. There was a change in management and Gary was forced out. This is certainly their loss! Gary and his team are able to work on more challenging issues than a neighborhood mechanic, in less time, for less money, and they do things correctly the first time. Why would you go somewhere else? Gary is a diesel expert. He's worked on my GMC truck and my electric vehicle, but his strength is in diesels. In particular, he's worked on hundreds of Ford Powerstroke 6.0 diesels, and can do everything from basic maintenance, to substantial repairs, to complete "bulletproofing" up to performance tuning. My one caveat to new customers is to set expectations correctly. By cutting out the middleman and going straight to a mechanic, you'll save time and money. But, there won't be a waiting room, coffee, or any of the other creature comforts of a larger facility. So what? Either be ready to stand and wait, or better yet, make an appointment and leave your vehicle. Let me put it this way: if it were not for Gary, owning an older truck would not be feasible for me. We had a great first experience here, after reading numerous recommendations in NextDoor and FB. I brought in an older pickup that has several known issues to resolve. We planned to leave it, so my son followed me in one of our daily drivers so he could pick me up. Gary heard a noise in the pickup that we were not even planning to leave with him, and asked me to raise the hood. We had a quick look and sure enough the water pump was about to fail. Had Gary not spotted that, it could have been an expensive event with the failed water pump letting the fan hit the radiator, costing us $1,000+ unnecessarily. Not to mention breaking down and overheating by the side of the road in this heat. Gary was able to turn that repair around in a day, and he lent us a loaner pickup to get home. We've become repeat customers. Excellent service attitude, fair prices, and thorough explanations of all work needed or done.
