Now this is the quintessential breakfast joint! What they used to affectionately call a greasy spoon diner. No frills, no fancy decor, just good food for great prices. I'm a huge fan of a a chicken fried steak and eggs for breakfast and this place didn't disappoint! Wife and I had to renew our licenses during the week and we checked out D&M for the first time. Interior wise, it needs updating, but the food was great! Chicken Fried Steak was fried to perfection! It was meaty and had some damn good flavor! I ordered it with some soft scrambled eggs and they were spot on! My wife had a pancake, which she said was really good, and we shared the sausage, bacon and ham plate. I'm definitely going back again for another chicken fried steak! Hope it's the same or better! read more

Recently visited and there was a *dying* rat in a trap in the bathrooms. ZERO reasonable maintenance and cleaning being done to upkeep the place. Flies everywhere. Multiple tables seated themselves and ignored for some time by the only young dark haired waitress on duty. She was either talking to the cashier (who was doing other jobs in addition to the register) or went and sat at a table with a man and ignored the whole room. Everyone worked but her! Had to get our own refills, tables weren't bussed, an elderly gentleman with difficulty walking asked if he could pay her and she told him to go to the register to pay from her seated position at the table she was hanging out at, then begrudgingly got up to do it for him. She had to be told a table needed help/menus. I don't know where the usual waitstaff have all gone and who this girl knows, but she was beyond absurd and shouldn't be working in food service. Food was same as always at least, pretty good! Such a high potential place with better management/employees and ownership upkeep/remodel. It's really declined recently and would fail inspection I suspect. Won't return and will just go to Moss Hill/dayton. Not worth the risks and watching her disrespect the elderly. read more

The restaurant may seem a little rustic, but once you try the food nothing else matters. The omelettes are delicious and the pancakes are huge and fluffy. The burgers are nicely seasoned and very juicy. I plan on making my way through the menu. The servers are extremely friendly and very attentive. If you are passing through town this is a good place to stop by. read more

Our first time here and well the food is ok.. we ordered a cheeseburger, patty melt and one order of fries ($20). The meat had no flavor and the fries we did not eat they were old and cold. I believe the owner is a veteran which is cool but the inside is dirty and seems to not have been cleaned in years. Didn't think there was much seating driving by from the outside looks of the building. The food was 9/10 and and despite inflation prices were 10/10. The waitresses were attentive, friendly, and thoughtful. My only complaint was the dessert, I got the cobbler With ice cream but the cobbler was still a little frozen when it was served, however, it still tasted pretty good. I had the three meat BBQ plate consisted of beef brisket, pork ribs, and pull pork. It came with two sides which I selected potato salad and fried okra. The mean also came with Texas toast also. The brisket was nice but the pulled pork and ribs were average. The BBQ sauce was ok. The potato salad was the typical mustard potato salad and average also. The fried okra was served hot and fresh. I agree with another visitor from another site that the place needs a real good cleaning. They need fly traps also. Overall the food I had was okay. From what I could tell this is really a better breakfast place and looked to have good burgers also. To be fair to the place I will be back but will try the breakfast or burgers. read more

Waiting and waiting at the dmv and they closed the door right in front of us. We would be the first one after lunch. So we stopped here to grab a quick bit before we had to get back. For quick fattening food come in. I had the pulled pork and coleslaw. It was good and hot. I'm told that the catfish plate which was the special was good but the fish was a little soggy. The beans and okra was great. They would have eaten the beans all by them self. Good country place. The window sills could use a good cleaning. The flies would be nicer outside then in. Don't let appearances deceive you. This restaurant is very divey, but extremely delicious!! It's a small restaurant that looks like an old diner with typical diner seating. There is no hostess. There is no waiting area, just tables, waitresses, and cooks. We seated ourselves and was greeted pretty quickly by a waitress who brought our drinks. We were craving breakfast so we ordered quickly. We were not disappointed!! The eggs were perfectly cooked (no runny whites), the bacon was very crispy as were the hash browns. The biscuits were grilled on one side (yummy). The place fills quickly, but the food is fire! The fried green tomatoes were super flavorful, the best I've had actually. Ranch was homemade. I had the chicken fried streak and it was absolutely amazing. Seriously perfect balance of breading to steak, plus the breading stays on the steak! It doesn't fall off under the gravy that is smothering the steak. Super crunchy too, not soggy. The potato had some hard spots and probably should've been cooked longer, but geez that was a huge potato, plus, you can't beat the prices. Atmosphere was super chill and had, what I affectionately labeled, The Elvis Corner, with a variety of Elvis posters and pictures. Had a HUGE selection of shake flavors as well. Mom got the brisket sandwich. Meat was super tender and ridiculously good sauce. Plus, real French fries! Local diner that has a friendly feel. 1960's interior that has windows on 3 side, so it is not dark and closed in like The Ranch Hand cafe, a few miles south on the same highway. Food wise, my 1/2 lb Burger was not one that I would return for. The bun was too small (size matters) and not high quality. I buy better buns at HEB grocery,made by HEB , Petrich Farm, Sunbeam or Mrs Baird's. For my hamburgers taste (at home or in restaurants), the bun is as important as the rest of the fixings. The bun just seemed on the dry side, not soft. The other thing was that the burger came out near room temp, so the meat was not "hot off the grill". The bacon on the burger was a bit too fatty. They said they make everything fresh, except the onion rings. The onion rings or just like the fast food type you get from Burger King or Whataburger. I wish they could find the time to make them fresh and find a great recipe for them (like The Ranch Hand). They had a list of great milk shakes on the board, but they need a better burger, and better onion rings to go with it. Co worker got a combination BBQ sandwich, ( I think it had beef, pork and sausage in with the sauce) and he said it was great! Maybe getting the BBQ sandwich would be a good choice or others. We both liked the creamy coleslaw. Parking was good and our waitstaff was nice and helpful. About 15 to 20 tables in the restaurant, so not too big. If I went back I might try the chicken fried steak, just to see if it is a good one. One other positive note, the fountain coke was perfect. More syrup like they use to serve and less watered down with carbonation. It tasted great. I would love to try a coke float here. read more

food was ok, service was good.. but I'm not sure how this place passes heath inspection everything is sooo dirty. from the back of chairs, the floor there is no words. nor the ceiling . The vents are so nasty, the bottom of tables are so dirty, every wall, baseboards. The dishes are very old. If I had not ordered my food before really looking at things I would have left. My husband and I were both praying they would get someone that would actually care about the place to take care of it and someone that, looking at these things would cause them to do something about it. I really hope this review causes something to shift. It takes one Choice to change. Having a clean environment for those regulars should be top priority and staff. If thats black mold on the ceiling. the extent of the environment. Doesn't matter how good food or service. There's way too many clean places to choose to eat.
