I went into this place after reading all the positive reviews, I brought in my 1TB external drive to try and recover the data on the hard drive, the drive had no water damage and has never been dropped, so I thought for sure they would recover the data after reading their Positive reviews, But I got a call from them the next day saying they could not recover the data, they couldn't even figure out what the issue was. They said I could sent a to a lab that they partner with so the lab could try and recover the data at a cost of $4,000-$5,000 ridiculous ! I ended up paying $27.22 so they could tell me they can't recover the data ! I can just imagine how much money they take from people just to do a diagnostic test. read more

I was beyond devastated when I came home from vacation and was unable to start up my desktop computer. After trying to fix the problem myself by watching a few You Tube videos and purchasing some random cable at Best Buy to try and transfer my data to my computer at work with no success, I brought the hard drive to D and Q. Chun was so kind and helpful. They managed to get all my data off the damaged drive and transfer it on to two external drives. There's a lot to be said for getting the job done, but I really appreciated how nice the staff was. I am writing this review during my exhausting preparation for a midterm tomorrow, just to imply how much I am thankful for these guys that giving them a five-star review comes in a higher priority than anything else. For an international student, whose Dell computer's warranty is only eligible in another country, there can be no more words to express how desperate I was when my only one-year-old computer was water damaged. And plus, there clearly is not as many choices for a PC to get repair as a MacBook in the U.S. And plus plus, we are all aware that how these repair shops can easily play little tricks and get more money from us without we even realize what is wrong. All the concerns just kept jumping out of my mind as I panicked and panicked and panicked. But none of these happened. I left my computer there, and they said to call me in two days for they were insanely busy. But I received their the next day and got my computer back the day after, just right in time for me to finish up my paper which was due in one day. My computer, of course, was back to life again. What's more, they waived my diagnosis fee and fixed my touchpad which was already broken before the water damage for free. They even cleaned up my screen which is covered with dust -- they don't have to any of those at all!!! Just to say how much they care about the clients into the smallest details. They definitely deserve more five-star review on this Yelp page. Please, if you need computer repair, go to D&Q. This should be your first and only stop for all your computer needs. I forgot my charger cable at work and needed to work from home. I first went to Best Buy and even brought my laptop with me. It did not matter. The sales guy just told me to pick up the Universal cable cord box and it will work. Once I got home and tried it, I wanted to CRY. It did not work. So I waited until D&Q opened at 10, I took my laptop and the expert was nice enough to find the cable that worked for it. Bingo! Best Buy was the WORST Buy. D&Q is the GREAT place. read more

I dropped my laptop off with them in december before COVID-19 hit. I was quoted the price for my motherboard replacement shortly afterward and needed some time to build the funds to pay for the repair. Then COVID hit and my laptop was then in limbo. Understandably they couldn't operate their business in the early months of the pandemic. Did they sell my laptop to mitigate their loss of business? Did they reenact the office space copier smashing scene with my laptop to alleviate their rage? no. What they did was hold on to my laptop and patiently await my call to put down for the repair and then a mere week later, I got my laptop back in pristine condition and functioning better than I remember. I even think i had a screw missing in the chassis that they replaced for me for no charge. Amazing. I'm floored by D & Q Computer's quality and ethic of work. I can't say enough good words. Every time I have an issue that is outside my wheelhouse with my machines, they will be first call and absolutely should be yours. Thank you D & Q!!! read more

Let's discuss life without a computer when you basically live alone, are on holiday, and are "too good" for a television. A heroin overdose would be more stimulating. Thanks to me being an idiot and the most expensive cup of coffee ever, this is how I rang in 2013. Meaning the D&Q employees could have hurled gross things at me and I would still give them a 5 star rating for fixing my laptop in an expedient manner. But there were no gross things, they were wonderful- personal, professional, up to and including the timely phone updates. The entire process took less than 4 solid days, even with the ordering and shipping of special parts during the New Year's week. Was it free or close to free? No. But it was faster than the Apple store and regardless of the expenditure, a working Mac Air that doesn't type out hieroglyphics is a lot better than another night of Hulu Plus on an iPhone. read more

Meh is the perfect word to describe this place. I brought my laptop in for some power problems. They wanted to charge $35 for a diagnostic test to see what was wrong with my computer even though I already knew, this $35 diagnostic test was an additional charge on top of whatever it cost to fix the laptop. I would expect the cost of the diagnostic test to go towards the total cost of the fix but it doesn't. Since I didn't want the test, they charged me $140 to fix the problem as I described it and if I was wrong and it was a different problem, I would have to pay an additional fee for the diagnostic test AND for them to fix whatever the problem is. As for the problem with my computer, it wasn't charging and I highly suspected it was due to the power jack so I forked over my credit card, and paid the fee. They told me they would either fix the part that was broken or replace it. I thought it was strange that it was the same price even though they may not have to put a new part in. The second thing that I thought was weird, was that they told me there was a problem with my charger and wanted me to pay $25 for a new charger. When I got to the store to pick up my computer the next day, I plugged my old charger into my computer and it charged just fine. They told me that it hadn't worked a minute ago, and maybe it didn't, we've all had things like that happen, but it any case, I left the store feeling uncomfortable and a bit confused. Looking back I realized they never actually confirmed if they fixed the jack or if they put a new one in and I still feel like if they just fixed the jack, it should have been cheaper than if they put a new one in. I also felt uncomfortable with the fact that they charged me BEFORE they fixed my computer. I've thought about it and can't come up with any scenario that doesn't include charging people upfront so that even if they're unhappy with your service, it doesn't matter because they already paid. Thankfully they take credit so if you're unhappy you can report it to your credit card company. This place was the highest rated computer repair place on yelp, so it could be that the competition in the city is even worse, but in any case, I probably wouldn't go back here again. read more

I haven't written in review in a while but I wanted to leave a review for its excellent customer service and professionalism. Well deserved five star. They accomplished a feat that I thought was nearly impossible. My computer went back to factory setting and it took me by surprise so I didn't have my data backed up. I panicked and proceeded to call multiple data recovery/computer repair shops in Manhattan but they all told me it was impossible to restore data after the computer has been reset or quoted me a ridiculous price. Then I found D&Q on Yelp. After reading all the positive reviews on Yelp, I decided to call them. They were friendly, professional, and quoted me a really reasonable price. They also attempted five different programs to retrieve my data and were successful at recovering a good majority of it. I'm so glad I found them! I've taken my Lenovo All-In-One PC almost everywhere and I've been told a range of things as well as a range of price quotes (some ridiculous) since it was a hardware issue. Some folks even told me that I should just call Lenovo directly and ship my computer to middle-of-nowhere, USA for them to fix. Until I found D&Q. D & Q is honest, down to earth, and amazing. One can get through life a little easier with a good lawyer, doctor, physical trainer (in my marshmellowy case), and ever-important--a trustworthy computer expert. D & Q have become such for me. My MacBook Pro suffered water damage, rendering the logic board dead. I had first brought my computer to The Mac Fix and was disappointed with the long wait, an odd mishap, and poor communication. I then brought my computer to D & Q, and in under a week had a new logic board--a hard-to-find original custom order--installed and working as smooth as it did before the damage. Don (at D & Q) promptly kept me in the loop of what he ordered, when it arrived, and the results of his testing, upon which I was given a warranty for service and parts should the logic board replacement fail. I didn't expect things to go this smoothly, but it did--and feel good about now knowing someone I can trust with future computer problems. read more

MACBOOKPRO / DEAD HARD DRIVE / MEMORY RECOVERY / DATA RECOVERY Tony and Dong made my year! this was gonna be the worst of 2014! and they JUST saved me! I recently went to AppleGeniusBar because my MacBookPro won't turn on. Found out it was because my hard drive was failing and was referred to an "Apple Supported Retailer" to recover my memory. they told me it was gonna take 2 weeks UGH! and quoted me w/lotsa dollars. so I reached out to my geeky bro, and he referred me to D & Q. fyi I'm NOT completely helpless and hopeless, it's just my last backup was 6 months ago and I admit.. When my used electronics place closed down without warning, I went into a panic. My old Macbook Pro needed a new battery and the charger wasn't charging? Or was it? Or was the battery that bad? As most of us know, this would easily be a $300 + visit to the Apple store or even Best Buy. So I turned to (what else?) YELP. And there it was, literally a block away from where I work. I've passed it every day. I emailed my needs to the address on their website and Chun got back to me within a few hours with a price for a NEW battery ($89 + tax). Nearly half the price of any other place i had researched. He even told me that if I brought my computer with me, he would install it for me. I told him that I would be in tomorrow, but then I changed my mind and went the same day, arriving about 20 minutes before closing. They changed my battery in under 10 minutes (in time for Giants kickoff), fixed the time settings, and even examined my charger. It turns out some pins were stuck, and they even tried to get them to come down, but to no avail. I bought a new charger from them for $45. I will definitely be returning to update my software. read more

I never write reviews, in fact i took my computer here (An HP with a cracked screen bezel) over a month ago but I feel like service like this must be rewarded, and the least I can do is write something. First, they're incredibly professional, efficient and honest! Such a hard thing to find, the expedience was appreciated because i work in the legal field and I have all my client files on my laptop. Second, the guy talked me out of paying for an entire replacement (about 400 dollars) and instead gave me a cheaper alternative (100), i have NEVER seen anyone talk customers into a cheaper option. I walked in because the Wifi on my 5 year old laptop wasn't working. The clerk (young guy) took the time to tell me what the problem was and what my options were. He then showed me a USB 2.0 Wifi Adapter. I walked out and ordered the Wifi Adapter on eBay for $1.50, it arrived today, and I was able to fix the problem. So yes, D & Q didn't fix this problem, but the clerk did spend ~5 minutes with me to diagnose the problem and they saved me about $100. I also used them in ~2014 when my baby niece spilled ice on my laptop (same laptop as above). They replaced the keyboard on the HP DM1 Pavilion. It cost around $180 but the value was perfect, as the computer has been fine ever since (except for the Wifi issue above, which is now fixed). read more

I love these guys!!!! :)!!!! My hp laptop (had for 4 years worked great all four years), decided to die about three days ago! The cooling fan on my laptop stopped working :(. I know, horrific. But it can't die! I have one more semester at penn state, needs to last me a bit longer until I can afford a new one for grad school :( . Sooooo.... I yelped several places. I was very close to going to another that was charging 200 dollars! for what they charged me 85 (which he did say the price would vary depending on model and age but that was the price for my specific laptop). I came in as soon as they opened, told them my issues with my laptop. And they did give me a much longer estimate. I told them I'm leaving back to PSU in a couple days for good :( , he responded "oh okay, I'll make a note of that and we'll do the best we can" PSH!! and the best they can they DID! Best computer repair experience I've ever had. My PC laptop died, they diagnosed and got it up and running in less than 24 hours, for a reasonable price. Plus, they went out of their way to search for (and found!) evidence of my recent Windows 10 Pro purchase (which I could not find anywhere). So saved me the $91 cost of purchasing it again, when this was really was not part of the actual problem, just my poor record keeping.
