All this to say, I cracked the back of my phone the other day and had to make an appointment through Apple to get it fixed, and they sent me here. It was a short walk from my office, so Rhiannon if you're reading this I promise I went on my lunch break. After the short jaunt, I arrived at 36 W 36th. Sweet address right? There is a sign outside for the store that indicates it's on the 4th floor, which is a very nice touch. I took the elevator up, and the doors open right into the iStore with a big lit up sign in your face that says "iStore." "I think I am in the right place" the hero mumbled to himself... My boy Adrian at the desk took a quick look at the phone, and when he checked and saw I had no apple care he said it would be around $550 to repair. Everytime i order online from this bjs they always fuck up my order. Today i placed my order at 10am. Drop off 1-3 pm. The delivery came at one. But it wasnt my order. I sent it back. And at 3:45 i called bjs. They said they dont know why my stuff still there and that i have to wait to they recieve a email from roadie. Why was my Apple account password asked for when you were only fixing the screen after picked it up there was never any problems mentioned about anything else. I looked at you sideways when you (Adrian) answered we don't look at "that stuff", private security info such as bank cards, credit cards picture's stored in the cloud. This is my second time reviewing iStore. The first time I had a really great experience and rated them 5 stars. The wait times, customer service, generally nice environment are all still good. But unlike the first time, I was quoted an extremely high price to fix a display issue on my Macbook Pro. I wanted a second opinion so took it to an actual Apple store. They diagnosed the problem for free ($110 at iStore) and fixed it for free because it was an ongoing problem with displays on my particular model. Note that I do not have Apple Care and my warranty ran out. Perhaps iStore didn't know about this problem and inadvertently over-quoted the price. But if I hadn't done my due diligence, I'd have paid almost $1k for something Apple itself fixed for free. read more

PURCHASED: none TOTAL: none PROS: + online availability: there was plenty of online availability for someone to look at it on the same day I scheduled. However, it doesn't appear like they seem legitimate even with a sign that says they're an Authorized Service Provider. CONS: - costly: Apple less than iStore in terms of costs. To get my trackpad cable replaced it would cost approximately $180 total. He also mentioned it would include an "installation fee" (some trickery jargon) which basically meant he'd take off $78. Basically, he did not explain it well and left me feeling distrustful. At Apple the quote was approximately $80 with tax. Note: if you're handy with some tools, all you need is a YouTube video and an amazon purchase that could make this fix for $10... IMPRESSION: After receiving the quote I felt... uncomfortable. The language he used was confusing and the pricing did not make sense. It wasn't straight forward and I felt like he was trying to wiggle some money out of my pocket. My old MacBook suffered some water damage and iStore had the first appointment to get a new one. I figured it would be safe since they are Apple authorized. Within the day they had transferred everything from my old computer over to my new computer. That same day I can see charges to my credit cards and debit cards that were saved in my keychain that I did not make. They stole my credit card info right from my computer. Awesome business! Found them from the first Ad pop-up on Yelp because I'm super busy today/don't have time to be going through pages and pages. Just moved to the area so didn't know who to turn to and my iPhone and iPad are driving me nuts. Needed my iPad Air screen fixed since it's cracked and also had technical questions about my iPhone 7 FaceTime/speaker acting up as well. I spoke to Liam this afternoon. His customer service was OUTSTANDING! With every issue I had, he actually recommended I go to Apple first & get the guts of my phone cleaned for free to see if that solves anything before dumping money out. Wow, didn't pressure me or shove a sale down my throat. ^From the looks of it, I'll need to replace the entire iPad Air unit and also get a screen replacement for my iPhone 7. Made an appointment here because they had appointments sooner than Apple store locations. I came in for a broken key on my MacBook Pro. Initially, they said I had to send it off to get a new one install. After I explained that I couldn't let me laptop go for that long they offered to do a quick diagnosis to double check everything and I had my laptop back 20 minutes later. Once the part comes in I can come back to have it quickly swapped out. I will definitely be back, really great service and friendly people! My 2018 MacBook Pro requires a replacement battery. Unfortunately, none of the Apple locations in NYC are able to provide this service in store. I was very happy to chat with Jeffrey at iStore and hear that they will be able to order the part for me, while I hang onto my device. They are an Apple Certified repair center conveniently located right off of Union Sq. Jeffrey was able to squeeze me in the same day for a diagnostic test. Lewis, in the store, was very accommodating to my needs and worked out logistics with the techs to service my laptop before I head out of town. The part is ordered and I will receive a call when it is in to drop off my computer. Work for me is finally picking up and I greatly appreciate how they are going beyond the typical repair route so I can continue to accept jobs! The only reason I'm giving this place any stars is bc they were professional and the wait time was short compared to Apple. BUT they definitely tried to try to swindle me. Basically I was told there's a possibility I'd be charged for the battery if they replace my keyboard (battery automatically comes with with the keyboard) Even though the repair was a recall issue bc of the model. It didn't make sense so I left and went to Apple and they didn't even mention the battery. They fixed the keyboard problem & waived the battery fee at NO COST bc it all falls under the recall. I understand these authorized retailers have to make money so this place charges a diagnostic fee ($110) but all that additional finessing you have to watch out for. If I let them fix it, they could've told me after I needed a battery & I'd have to take their word for it! Lastly they said the repair would take 5 days bc they give "priority to warranty customers" meanwhile went to Apple Friday and picked it up today - fixed it in 2 days. read more

I went for a hardware issue and neither of the two men working there knew what I needed based on the notes in my case file. The manager got defensive when I told him it wasn't a software issue but a hard drive issue. He wanted to charge me even tho I have Apple Care Plus. I came here to fix a heating issue/battery replacement for my MacBook Pro mid-2015 retina. Apple support advised me to visit this location because the next available appointment at Apple stores near me would be in a week. Apple support explained that a MacBook battery replacement at an Apple Authorized Service Provider should cost about the same as if I were to replace it at the Apple store ($199.00 plus tax if replaced by Apple). When I got quoted, they said about $363.00 ($110.00 plus tax for a non-refundable "diagnostic test", which they don't do in front of you, and ~$200.00 for the top case with the battery) and I would have my MacBook back in 2-3 business days. I was fine with paying more since they initially told me my computer would be ready for pick-up in 2-3 business days. I paid the $110.00 plus tax deposit on my initial visit and expected my computer to be ready for pick-up in a couple of days. On the supposed day of pick-up, I called in advance to check if my MacBook was ready since they didn't contact me. During my call, they told me that they had lost my login information (which I provided on a post-it the day I got quoted) for my MacBook to do the diagnostics test. This was completely unacceptable as they told me my computer would be ready in 2-3 business days and they haven't even run the test. After they ran the test, they contacted me and told me they would have to order the top case with the battery from Apple and then start on the repair when it arrives (which took another week and a half). If they initially told me this, I would have just waited to get an appointment at Apple and the repair would've been cheaper and faster. After 2 weeks from my initial visit, it was ready for pick-up and the heating issue wasn't fixed when I tested it myself. Therefore, the employee took it to the back of the store for the technician's advice. He came back and tried explaining to me that the technician said: "the MacBook is like that when it turns on" (it is not like that, because I came here for this issue). He also didn't believe me that the issue was present and directed me to show him. I showed him and that's when he took it to the technician for the 2nd time and told me to come back in an hour. I came back after an hour and tested it again; the problem was resolved and I paid my remaining balance but I did not like the customer service that was provided. Overall, customer service was unsatisfactory and deceptive. I can understand if iStore provided impeccable service and charged an expensive fee, but the service provided was inefficient/deceptive and yet they had the AUDACITY to charge more than the Apple store. Advice to potential future customers: Go to the Apple store and don't bother with this place. read more

I scheduled an appointment at this store, through the Apple website, to repair my cracked iPhone screen. I scheduled the appoint a few days in advance and arrived 5 minutes early. Upon arrival, I was told they were not servicing any more phones for the day, despite my appointment, and I was dismissed. After complaining, the manager was called, but he declined to speak to me, and I was denied service again Another strange thing to note. While discussing my appointment with the only person that was actually at the store, they pretended they didn't have my appointment in their system. This was clearly a lie because after I told her I was going to complain to Apple and leave negative feedback on social media, the Director of Retail Operations e-mailed me to try and smooth things over. They had my e-mail, they had my appointment, but for some reason, they just decided they were going to waste my time and deny my service after arriving on time I'm not sure what this store is trying to accomplish, but servicing customers does not seem to be a top priority read more

I really was extremely disappointed by the service here. I've been trying to get my iPhone 11pro fixed (the facial recognition hardware failed) for 4 months but due to the pandemic it's been extremely hard to get an appointment. I've called Apple support and they ran some tests and told me that I would have to take my phone to the iStore for replacement. I had to wait several weeks to get an appointment where when I arrived a was given an attitude and despite Apple telling me to "just drop the phone off for. A replacement" I get " your gonna have to leave the phone here for 2 hours while I waste my time and miss my flight. These folks at iStore are NOT helpful in the least bit. Never again read more

I think these guys are incompetent at best, dishonest at worst. Long story short- they told me that the 'main board' on my Macbook Pro had failed and it would cost $1200 to repair it. I got a bad feeling after discussing, paid the $119 diagnostic fee and took it to Apple. The guy at the genius bar fixed it in 60 seconds, no charge. Details: I took my MacBook Pro in because it wasn't charging - using a charger and cable that worked fine on another MacBook Pro. I had read that my particular model had an issue with a chip that communicates woth the charging port, and that it could be replaced, and I told them that. They took it in to perform diagnostics, for a $119 fee that would be applied to any repair. A few days later, they came back with an estimate for $1200, saying that the main board had failed and needed to be replaced. I asked some questions, and the answers were not answers to my question but rather reasons why they could not answer. It all seemed suspect, so I took it back and ate the $119. I looked the laptop over, and it didn't seem like they'd even opened it up. I've replaced RAM, hard drives and peripherals in laptops, and usually when you open a macbook that hasn't been opened before, you can see it on the screws and openings. I could be wrong, but I think this looks like a macbook that has never been opened. I took it to the Apple Store, where the guy did the 'reset SMC' key combo but held them down for like a minute (I had done it, but held for the 10 or 15 seconds suggested). The macbook started up, and started charging. A week later, all is still good. read more

Run down walk away from the I store on broadway and 17 Street. After a visit to the Apple Store at grand Central they sent me here I need a new hard drive 389.77. I was told at Apple Store 100 to 200. But wait an additional 400.00 to retrieve your data. I opted for hard drive only. Way over the price Apple is giving. Also I had put a start up disk in hoping I might reboot. It got stuck and would not eject. The tech at I store did not bother to eject it and eady pick up was over a half hour wait when I complained that they repaired hard drive but left the disk After a long wait and a smiling sales person a tech came with a key board and got it out. Brought my Macbook in here instead of the Apple store because this is closer to my place and I was really happy that I did. They figured out what was wrong with my laptop, ordered the replacement part (known hardware issue with my model, so Apple sent them a replacement), and put the replacement part in really fast, earlier than promised. They called and left me a voicemail to let me know that it was ready. I'm actually surprised to see negative reviews because I found the guys friendly and I wasn't hit with any sort of surprise bills or anything like that. I went here for data recovery and while they did get the data, the guy misled me about bringing in my own hard drive even though I said I was planning on it. He put the data on a mediocre hard drive I didn't want to buy and tried to pressure me into getting it. I refused and decided to buy a nicer drive from them since he also didn't tell me I would have format and back up my own drive in order to not lose any data. Then, he told me to come back at 1pm and I came and they weren't done. So I had to go to the store 4 times and it could've easily been done in 2 with proper communication and assistance. The pricing also seems fairly high considering how bad the service is. At least they did get the data, but they wasted a lot of my time and money on subway fare. read more

My phone needed a unit replacement and although they couldn't help me directly, they answered all of my questions and made sure I had all the information I needed to get it fixed. Nick was especially helpful. My phone was dying and I needed to back up the information before I switched it out for another phone. He set me up with a charger and let me chill while it backed up.
