It's a nice little shop with a small selection of fabric and a large area with sewing machines on tables. They have little to no knowledge of industrial and older machines though which was what I went in looking for. I've got three 40+ year old machines and was hoping to find a local store to get supplies (oil, blades etc) as well as a tune up and or advice. Will keep looking. read more

They had a great service center. They were able to fix my older baby lock surger. When no one else could fix it.

We were shopping for a new serger for my wife. The women there were very helpful in selecting the right machine for her. A shout out to Karen who helped my wife get the machine all set up and even gave her some good tips and training. Beware that the store has a no return policy. When the machine was about to be purchased we asked to open the box to check that everything was in order and was informed that if it was opened we had to buy it. Now we are talking about a $1400 machine. I wonder what the response would have been if all was not good when we opened it since they have a no returns policy. That being said they had a good supply of fabrics and other supplies and they even have a separate room where they have free classes. I'd give them 7 out of 10 stars. read more

I am a bit confused by the negative reviews on here for this establishment. The inside is small. They have a bigger machine area than the fabric section. However, the staff was extremely friendly. They even asked to see pictures of my past projects. The man who services the machines has an extensive background in machine repair, even traveling to Japan several times for training. The prices are like you would expect from any quilt shop. I really enjoyed speaking with the ladies here. I will come back next time I am in the area. read more

Wow what a wonderful place. You are greeted warmly by customers and staff when you first walk in the door. Rosemarie attended to my questions and explained that she was a brother machine expert and Pam was the Janine expert and allowed me to experiment on several different machines. I decided on the Janome and there were tons of extras included. The extras were bobbins, extension table. More bobbins. An extremely detailed instruction manual. Beyond my expectation even based on the website and consumer reports (which gave high rating). Very high value. But even more to the experience was one of the owners was working with another person and explained where to buy the part( to save the customer $$$) and they would install the part. In addition they carried the machine to my car. Such unbelievable quality customer service and product plus they have classes to learn about your machine. read more

My wife uses Best Sewing, formerly D & R, for repairs and maintenance on her ten needle embroidery machines. We drive 90 miles from Saint Simons Island in Georgia to use them. In our experience they stand behind their work. Recently she also purchased a ten needle from them and, in our opinion, received a fair deal and good value. We would recommend them for maintenance, repairs and purchases. read more

Took my 1700 Brother embroidery machine in for repair, which I did not purchase from D & R, they said they would call me when they had fixed it. They did not realize that I had purchased several Brother embroidery machines before. They said if I waited for a while, they would go ahead and fix it. Great service. My 70 year old 'Deluxe Classic' sewing machine has been serviced and is running like new. The service was estimated to take a week and was ready on time and at the quoted price. I also got a new Janome 634d serger. After a hands on tutorial I was able to go home, thread the serger with no problems. read more

It was a very strange experience. The person answered my questions but would not sell me anything. I asked about a particular product that was hanging on the wall, but she made no effort to sell it to me and instead told me I could purchase it for around $18 somewhere else. I asked her to look up my name to check my warranty, and she ignored my request. This is a big disappointment because there is a limited number of shops selling sewing machines in my area. read more

I was having trouble threading my bobbin so I took my machine in to D & R. They were very nice and looked at my machine right away and tested it. They found nothing wrong. It turned out that I had been trying to thread the machine incorrectly. They showed me the proper way to thread it and didn't charge me anything. I don't understand the previous very bad reviews. My experience was wonderful. Right when I walked in the door I was pleasantly greeted. Showed them my 30 year old machines. A Janone. Which had never been serviced. They took my information and said it could be up to 11 days. They sent me a text the next day to say it was done!!!!!! Now that's service. The woman that works there was the rudest individual I have come across in the embroidery business. The man was helpful but she seemed to get an attitude every time he assisted me. I am new to embroidery and had many questions about software, none of which she was interested in answering other than to tell me for what I wanted I could get this one or that one. That's it. As a newbie I used the word wizard instead of template and she rolled her eyes for the 15th time and proceeded to basically scold me instead of correcting my term. She knew what I meant. I could go on and on but I will just just pay over night shipping or drive to Orlando to avoid ever having to deal with the woman who has been embroidering for 20+ years and has the most expensive digitizing software and machine and has no time or tolerance for customers!!! read more

I borrowed a friends sewing machine and the brace that holds the presser foot fell apart when I first tried using it. Sarah worked on it and had the technician take a look at it. She is very knowledgeable and gave me some helpful hints about threading the machine and bobbin. Sarah is so sweet and she spent quite a lot of time helping me out. read more

I called for a quote to service both my serger and my sewing machine. Both were old and in desperate need of attention. ($150 & $80 for servicing). When I arrived, the lady was absolutely the most rude, arrogant, bitchy person I have met in a business. She spent a solid FIFTEEN minutes in abject horror that my machine was covered in dust and fabric fluff. She stated over and over and over that the little balls of dust must be removed and kept pointing to tiny bits that were on the table, demanding that they be removed as I was using a brush she gave me. Then she was livid that that brush had dust on it. She had NO idea what she was talking about and was incredibly dismissive and disparaging about my late fathers wife Kenmore that was given to me. And I mean vicious. I tried to show her in my serger, the stitch width insert placement since I lost the piece and she instead asked why I didn't put it in the drawer in the most haughty way. She also insisted it was a cutter when it absolutely was not. She repeatedly, and repeatedly, told me that nobody would even touch my machine because it was so filthy. (Seriously? It had been sitting and gathering dust, that's it). She was stunning in her rudeness. I am not sure what is going on in this business staffing, but it is headed for a dismal failure if this is how they treat customers that were ready to just hand over a credit card. I have been sewing for many years and my Baby Lock is now vintage and easily serviced in the past. This was completely over the top, unacceptable behavior. It was like this lady was seething in anger underneath the surface and looking for somewhere to vent. She refused to listen to me about anything, kept over talking and disparaging my machines. I simply needed a cord/foot pedal for the Kenmore but instead of stepping over to look at the model #, she made this huge effort to tell me how Kenmore was unreliable and changed manufacturing companies. She was grilling me like a snotty professor, absolutely not helpful and I guess her goal was to show her superiority instead of making money. I explained what the cord plug looked like and she grabbed the wrong sized one and once she tried to plug it in, realized that I was right, and that just seemed to piss her off more. I would warn anyone away from this business. Any person with weak self control would be in danger of smacking her for the full out verbal attacks this woman dishes out, just because you wanted to support the business. I feel sorry for the owner if he is not aware that she is successfully demolishing the business reputation with this employee. Drive across town, drive ANYWHERE to avoid this place. read more

Please don't waste your time and energy with this business. I took my sewing machine there in hopes of figuring out why I couldn't get the hook to spin and link up the bobbin with the thread. I explained the problem and before the carrying case was even off the sewing machine the employee told me it would cost $250 to fix it and gave me some excuse about how the parts needed to be ordered from China and basically the entire inner-workings of the machine would and replaced (without looking at the inside). Without missing a beat he told me I should replace the machine and buy a new one from their store because my sewing machine was hopeless. I came home, disassembled the machine myself, quickly identified the likely culprit and ordered $20 worth of replacement parts from Tennessee. I'm not sure if I'll be able to fix it but it's worth a shot. I should have saved my time and energy and done this from the beginning. read more

Took it to D & R today and a sweet lady named Sherry took about 20 minutes to sit down with me and trouble shoot my machine. Turns out it just needed a little oil. I took my Brothers sewing machine to have the tension adjusted. The owner took a look and tried some sewing only to show me what I already knew. We conversed, all the while he was degrading my choice of machine and where I bought it (Walmart) indicating that anything bought from Walmart was very very inferior. We started to discuss the possibility of buying another machine since he told me my was a "throw away". He tried to indicate that I knew nothing of price shopping, a same model number was built different if purchased at his shop or on-line. When I told him I disagreed with him, he very rudely said "have a nice day" and he was done with me. Don't need his rudeness and condemnation. read more

These individuals actually care about what I need and are more than willing to assist. The woman that works there is always willing to answer any questions that I have had and has never been rude to me (and I call A LOT). When she first taught me how to use my machine she was very polite and helpful. I read one review where they stated that they are not welcoming if you are not white. This is definitely not the case. I went to D&R because my embroidery machine was on the fritz and on the Brother website, they were an authorized retailer and fix shop for machines. I brought my machine in to be met with a wide array of other embroidery and sewing machines throughout the shop. I told them what was happening to my machine and they plugged it in to see what was going on themselves, letting me know what might be the possible issue with it. I didn't know my machine was still under warranty, so they told me it would be a free fix since my machine was less than a year old (if not, maybe around $130 to fix, which wasn't too bad). I found my receipt and emailed them it and after a few days they called me and it was completely fixed. Super awesome service and quick fixing will have me going back if my machine acts up again. They also let me test out some of their machines and I've found an embroidery machine I'd like to get eventually. They also offer sewing classes too which are probably much better than those of Joann's since they are sewing people. read more

If you are a sewing novice, and need some direction, don't bother going here unless you want to get insulted directly to your face because you didn't spend $1000 on your machine. Even if I am sewing on a less than ideal machine, I would expect these "professionals" to remember that we all have to start somewhere, and use a little tact the next time they are approached with this situation. I can't believe these people have been in business for twenty years, and I can tell you that when I am ready to upgrade my machine, I sure as hell won't be buying it here, and I would encourage everyone to do the same. read more

If I was buying a brother sewing machine, my first impression would have been to turn around and walk out. I went there recently to ask about sewing classes and the woman I talked to was pretty rude and was somewhat indignant about my brother machine and in a tone, stated "we don't even sell that machine" and we make our money from selling the sewing machines and that is what pays her salary and the bills here" and told me that they don't even offer classes even if I wanted to pay for them unless I wanted to learn how to make something. There was no welcome tone in her greeting. She also told a customer on the phone that was inquiring about repair of a machine that was not a brother that she was now closed while talking to him and I was actually still standing there. She let it be known that she was six minutes late in closing. It was 1:36 when I left the store. If this is how she is, that would have kept me from even wanting to buy a machine from that store. read more
